Clinton Picture Causing Controversy

I reported here that I thought Drudge darkened this picture to sensationalize it. DC Fish Bowl has this new story:Klein Misrepresents Clinton Photo. Greg Beato has more on the story. So far nobody has mentioned the picture that appears on Drudge's home page. The original is in the day and in color so to me Drudge did intentionally sensationalize the shot no matter what his copy says. I'm going to investigate and we'll see what turns up. (Update)

A picture named drudgeondope1.jpg Mykeru used a technigue in distorting this picture and explains in his email:

"Yes, of course it was "darkened", and the darkening alone would serve to hide the underlying manipulation of the image. The worse the photoshopper, the more they have to smear, blur, grain or otherwise degrade the original to hide their tracks. But moreover, the photograph was given a slightly grainy green hue to suggest it was clandestinely taken with some night vision equipment.

Although the effect wasn't particularly well done, it can be exactly duplicated. Attached is a photo of our boy Matt, and a the same photo manipulated to show the bong he must be hitting to write the crap he does. The effect could be done any number of ways, and probably done half-assed by Drudge whose skills at graphics are are somewhere slightly above a Rhesus monkey using an Etch-A-Sketch. In my case I did it with the Photomatic "Nightscope" plugin, although it could also be done by manipulating the hue, grain and contrast manually."

Why bother? Because this is what Democrats are facing everyday. Lies and distortions to attack without integrity. With no hope of our liberal media doing a modicum of research to debunk any of this stuff and as Atrios says: the Ed Klein's are given the "royal media treatment."

(Update)-Mykeru has a follow up Post: Crooks and Liars Does Drudge And I'm happy to help out.
