Religion, Hate, & The Reactionary Right
The blurring of the distinction between the religion Islam and the Islamic fundamentalism of Salafis is reaching a point of alarm. The Telegraph conducted an online survey of Britons from throughout the U.K. with questions related to the attack and its aftermath.
The results indicate that the average Briton currently has a high opinion of Blair's response, as well as the performance of emergency services. The intelligence services don't fare so well, but support for the British presence in Iraq has received a jump. This one may be more complicated than simple rally-around-the-flag nationalism, given the new evidence that the Brits are planning their withdrawal, which I wrote on here.
