NPR's Fresh Air Series offers a poignant interview with Michael Weisskopf, author of Blood Brothers: Among the Soldiers of Ward 57 . Weisskopf was a journalist on assigment in Iraq for Time magazine when a grenade landed in the back of the open Humvee in which he rode. Weisskopf was honored by the Army for his actions after the attack, which saved the lives of four soldiers and Time photographer James Nachtwey (whose work I've highlighted before ) and resulted in the loss of his hand. The "Ward 57" in title refers to the ward at Walter Reed Hospital where amputees recover.
