Bush recess appoints Swift Boat hack Sam Fox
By John Amato Monday Jun 25, 2007 3:45pmIt pays to fund crooks and liars...
"The White House’s abuse of the recess appointment made it clear they care more about paying off cronies than nominating ambassadors with good judgment," said Amy Brundage, a spokesperson from Senator John Kerry (D-MA). "Congress has had enough and is going to find every way possible to ensure President Bush listens to Congress about the judgment, character, and honor of those who represent our country all over the world.
It's nice to get the ambassadorship of Belgium.

I hate Sam Fox. Sam Fox appears topless in all the Murdoch papers around the world. Sam Fox made horrible records like "Touch Me I Want Your Body" and "Naughty Girls Need Love Too."
I Hate Sam Fox. Unqualified to be ambassador.
I think I'm having some kind of weird flashback. I thought you just said that Bush appointed Sam Fox!
Is this some deja vu thing?
Sorry, I can't be surprised in a bad way any more. It would be nice to be surprised in a good way. Is that possible?
"I am glad that we were able to seek clarification from the GAO regarding the legality of this matter. However, I still stand by my assertion that the manner in which the President recess-appointed Ambassador Fox was underhanded at best," Dodd said in a statement released to RAW STORY.
Translation: nobody will end up doing a damn thing.
Didn't this happen back in April? I just googled his name and according to ABC news' website it happened late May or early April.
Yeah, it happened in April but the finally determined that there's nothing congress can do as long as Fox doesn't take any money for the job. I wonder what the Belgians think of all this - got any interesting international links?
weren't they going to cut off funding to the consulate there if he was side-stepped into the post or some such thing ??
why aren't the dems enraged. we have a guy whose judgement is at the very least suspect, he will be convicted eventually of war crimes, he will be eventually impeached, and his legacy will be the worst president this country has ever presented, yet, he is allowed to keep making appointments. he appoints not only ambassadorships, but he has appointed those to the supreme court as well and those will have long lasting effects well after this administration is a distant memory. he is the most incompetent smug sob. scandal after scandal and he still remains the decider. the only ones dumber are those who put him in office and continue to support him. why is he allowed to keep doing what he does. is pelosi still of the mindset that impeachment isn't even on the table? enough is enough. it's time to get rid of this guy and his entire entourage today. if pelosi and the dems who were duly elected to fulfill this mission can't or won't do it, then get rid of them. take off the kid gloves. i think we're all sick of this crap.
What? I thought Reid was going to stop Recess appointments by keeping the Senate going? What a piece of work Bush is.
ah belgium, the armpit of europe. arms maker for anyone that needs a kill. known mostly for a rotten cabbage and with the collective personality of same
The Bush administration brings a new (low) meaning to the "Peter Principle". W's historical legacy should be that he created the "Bushit Principle"
I thought Reid was making them come back just enough to thwart the recess appointment bit... did the venal bastards renege on that one too?
pissed off patricia @ 4:
POP, I agree. I can't remember the last time that I was surprised by the hubris of this administration...Worst President ever, forever. And if this Republic can survive this presidency, then we can survive anything.
Maybe we'll get lucky and the Belgian government will not admit him into their country. Wouldn't that be a hoot?
Belgium has the legal ability to tell GW to shove it, and since that's where I am eventually moving to in 2 years let's hope they do.

Ah, the United States, armpit of the world. Arms dealer to anyone with a dollar, mostly known for massive prison populations and extreme militarism.
Belgians are pikers compared to Americans.
I'd be lying if I said I was surprised, and feigned righteous indignation
Yeah there was a segment on this nomination and the swifters on the Flemish national television www.vrtnieuws.net, some of their newsitems are translated in english on their site but I doubt you'll find that since this is allready quite old.
Well we didn't make much of it, it was just a confirmation of things we allready thought of the USA and the Bush presidency.
They allready had made several interviews with the previous ambassador and where quite surprised by how things worked with you guys. You see in Belgium the ambassador represents the country, and although he has political ties, he must never speak of those in public when representing Belgium, and must always defend Belgium no watter which party is ruling the country.
They were quite amazed (and amused) when the previous ambassador was still defending Bush in an eery surreal way when you had the last elections and disastruous results for the GOP with the subsequent beheading of our dear Rumsfeld. Inthe light of the sacrifice of Rumsfeld and subsequent stands taken by Bush the things said by the ambassador then (the day after the elections) even seemed more ludicrous.
Something I must say that is lacking in USA is critical analysis, it just always amazes me how people can get away with ridiculous statements or things it's just obvious they don't believe or lie compared to here in Europe. I'm always amazed by the sheer naivenes or is it plain stupidity of regular 'mericans. A speech by politician hold here would be greeted with extreme laughter while in USA he would get loud applaus, jeez thanks the daily show still reminds me that not everyone in the US is that dumb.

There's a short piece about the Fox over here:
http://www.vrtnieuws.net/cm/vrtnieuws.net/nieuws/buitenland/1.142914
Short translation: Focus on trade between Belgium and the US + a brief mention of his contested nomination.
you know, they send these people out into the world the represent "us."
19 Nico Says:
Not everyone Nico, but far more than enough I'm afraid.
When you meet an American in your country, if it is unwilling to even try to speak your language or respect your customs don't trust it. It is one of "them".
On the other hand, if it at least tries to understand your position and language, it probably is one of us so please be nice. But verify by asking it about the US using torture. "They" try to blend in sometimes, but this is one subject where they can't seem to control themselves. On the subject of torture they will ALWAYS deny that the US is even capable of such a thing.
Dead give away.
PopeTodd @ 22:
Oh yeah, almost forgot, if they don't deny outright they will justify it.
If this happens just shake your head, tsk rsk them and walk away.
You don't even want to waste another second of your time on those mongrels.
IMPEACH THE LYING BASTARDS!!!!
Here's a link to a Belgian news site about this:

I love the last 4 paragraphs where he claims this was not a reward appointment and that he give money to Republicans because he "believes in good governance."
That should be enough for Belgium to tell him to go home right there.
We simply must stop recess appointments. Stop them now. Yet another finger in the eye of Democrats and disdain for bipartisanship.
Poor Belgium, they'll never ever forgive us for this one.
Why am I not surprised by this one.hmmmmmmmm????
We should all contact our elected officials and complain about this, tell them we want this loophole fixed before some other arrogant idiot such as Bush seems to be (at least judging by his actions). Stupid is as stupid does, right?
It's the same old business of rewarding political hit men. They don't even try to hide it anymore.
Surprised?
oldtree @ 11:
Interesting take on Belgium. You must be one of those Bush-supporting Americans that our proud not to own a passport. Been living in Belgium for the past 6 years and your statements are Coulter-esqe on the ridiculous scale.
Most of the coverage here shied away from the controversy, just referring to Mr. Fox as "controversial" without going into much detail (but this back in April/May). Just a shame that people like Mr. Fox are picked to represent the USA around the world.
I would be a nice gesture if the Belgian government politely refused to accept the Ambassador's credentials when he tries to present them. Sure it would cause a minor kerfuffle, but who gives a Ratatouille's ass at this point!
Those who pointed out how hard it is to get enraged anymore have made a good point. The latest revelations of what we all suspected about VP Dick should have gotten America in the streets to overthrow the bastards, but it's just another outrage in a long list.
Fox did an interview with Belgian newspaper De Morgen. Some highlights:
On his appointment: "not done in secret at all, perfectly normal and legal, not intended to avoid the normal process at all" / "it's not a political appointment, it's not payback for all the money I gave them, it's because if you give money to certain politicians you get involved with the political process, and Bush thinks I'm the best to represent the US" / "Nobody questioned my credentials" (that's a lie, Obama for instance did doubt him)
On Kerry: "he went to Vietnam, got wounded and was decorated -- but who's to say he didn't exaggerate?"
