Our current health care system is un-american. We can only hope Moore's movie will cause a call for change.

This is what happens when the "lesser known candidates" who the media intentionally shut out, get more exposure.

http://www.covenantwithblackamerica.com/

Look at the before and after results.

That's why the media tries to ignore John Edwards unless his name is associated with some manufactured scandal, and why they ignore Kucinich and Gravel. Edwards is an attractive, electable candidate, and Gravel and Kucinich are truth speakers. Both qualities are appealing to people, so the media shut them out in their incessant pushing of Obama and Clinton.

Why?

Because when they get exposure, their support increases.

I agree, where did our little pics go? They made it easy to find certain posters.

You know what's great about being a "fringe" candidate? You get to talk frankly, rather than in soundbites. Just watch the PBS presidential debate from last night. Gravel was....Gravel. He's the Johnny Rotten of presidential hopefuls.

Finally, a site in which nothing could be off-topic.

...but....but.....but, I can't think of anything to say.

Impeach? F*** the Pope? More cheaper dope for seniors? SiCKO sets BO records? Just as Bush proved ANYONE can be president, C&L proves ANYONE can post? Isn't 'stupid neocon' as redundant as 'lying republican'? 'Health Care' is un-american, hell, 'america' is un-american? The way things are going, the hell with 'keeping the lights on', it's better if we do what we're doing in the dark? How is the Vatican going to determine which of all those sheep it is building the pens for are 'straight'? The straight news is that the rapture has already happened, the folks we're dealing with are the 'Left Behind'?

Regarding the Catholic/Chimera post:
The Catholic Church's standpoint on gays is wrong. But your posting and the blog that originated the story are misleading. I don't see them okay-ing interspecies sex at all. The Catholic Church does not condone any sort of test tube/in vitro work at all, much less a chimera. I think they are encouraging compassion for whatever bizarre creatures are produced in the brave new world. They shouldn't be abandoned, but should be cared for and mothered. There's plenty to love and also criticize about the Church, but please don't be so misleading.

It is said that anti Catholicism is the " anti semitism of the Left. You certainly confirmed that indicating in your headline The Catholic Church condones sex with animals .

chuck's picture

Posting the link about Catholics and bestiality is irresponsible. I love C&L, but this is one of those things that could run me off. Please be more careful about how you portray things. The Church is not okay with bestiality and you know that.

Bic's picture

antipartisanship -
1. A chronic aversion to professional politicians and their handlers, based on the belief that they are all cynical and unprincipled.
2. An unwillingness to identify with either major political party based on said beliefs.

I have to say that I have noticed just a little bit of a trend in this direction here at C&L and I can tell you that it makes me very happy.

Peoples Front of Judea's picture

Interesting. Were you intentionally trying to say that the pope endorsed beastiality? Or were you just trying to be misleading? "Human-animal hybrid embryos conceived in the laboratory" It's quite a leap to get from test tube inception to beastiality.

chuck's picture

I forgot to add that you really should remove that link.

Chesire11's picture

I don't beleive the Church is endorsing the creation of "chimeras," (in fact it clearly would be stridently opposed to the practice). It's position is that once created, they should not be killed. It's analagous to the Church's position on abortion; the fact that it opposes abortion in the case of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest does not constitute endorsement of either rape or incest.

Lose the intentionally ignorant and gratuitous anti-Catholic schtick, it's demeans both you and your readers.

Catholic Church Endorses Inter-species Relationships (as long as it produces offspring)

Did that Dr. Moreau do that on some island. Then invited Cheney to come hunt half/humans.
The pope must listen to that same non-existent god that bush listens to.

ysbaddaden's picture

The idea that the RC (the church not the cola) endorses beastility is not such a leap when you compare endorsing women gestating an animal/human hybrid and the church's view that the bumpty-bump is for procreation not recreation.

dadams's picture

the catholic church is a travesty of morality. they are hypocrites to the extreme. no abortion, but they condemn sex by their priests/nuns. this is totally against god's laws according to their views. god says go forth and begat, not sit at home and masterbate. they horde wealth, example the vatican, while a huge portion of their followers live in proverty. fuck their hypocracy. today all religions are no more than tax-free corporations ultimately abusing their "share holders", their congregations.

The headline was obviously inflammatory, but the intent of posting it here was not.

Does anybody remember the Daily Show's Y2K special entitled, "The Greatest Millennium"? There was a three-way interview between the Singing Psychic, some guy who built a UFO welcome center in his back yard, and a guy who claims that he was forced to engage in anal sex thousands of times by aliens who were using us to propagate an alien-human hybrid race. I had totally forgotten about that episode, until I read this Catholic story here. Giant Spider, indeed.

Hi Lauren,

When the Catholic Church stops their inflammatory teaching that my religion (Wicca) is connected to Satan-worship, I'll care about my accidental and tiny pinpricks to their ego. Until then, isn't there something about casting first stones that's relevant here?

As Bill Hicks might say, if you don't like what I've said then forgive me.

The Catholic supporters have a point. It's difficult, let alone pointless, to parody a parody.

Attacking or insulting the Catholic church would be comparable to me hauling in my life-size cardboard cut-out of George Bush from it's normal position of 75-100 yards, where I plink at it with a .306, to a distance of ten feet, and blasting it with a Mossburg over-and-under.

I mean, the 'Pope's infallibility', the 'priests penchant for pederastic pedophilia', the heirarchy's obsession with denial and secrecy and obfuscation, the criminal financial manipulations, the corporate drive for self-survival, 'Uber Alles'?!

And all of this under the direction and benign approval, of an omniscient, omnipotent 'Creator and Master of The Universe'?!

Puhleeeeze! They're too deeply sunk into their delusions to prod with reality or reason, except as a sport, comparable to setting cats on fire. And, as cruel as that analogy might seem, it pales with respect to the historical and everyday depredations of Mother Church.

expatbrian's picture

First, a big thanks to C & L for linking to my site. My hits doubled in one night, LOL! C & L is my first read every morning.
Lauren (comment 18), I'm sure the church is very compassionate, just like they are with all the poor people who they demand keep having babies that they can't afford because they condemn using condoms or the pill. The point of the chimera work is to develop an alternative source of stem cells for further research because the fascist in the White House won't allow human embryos to be used. The problem is, if the parents of the chimera are mice, as David mentioned in the post, or cows or three toed sloths, should they be allowed to "mother" a human child? Most creatures won't "mother" anything that is not their species. Overall, I think the church ought to stay the hell out of science because they obviously know nothing about it. Thats why they are the church.
John (comment 20), Obviously the entire post is tongue in cheek. Don't get your Catholic dander up. I freely admit that I am no fan of the Catholic church but not only them. If you check my other posts under that category you will understand why.
Chuck (comment 21) Don't fault C & L for linking. What's next? Gonna tell 'em what music they 'shouldn't play' or what books they 'shouldn't' review? Jesus, lighten up everybody! It's for laughs! If you directed all this rage and anger you have at Washington we might have been out of this war years ago!
dadam (comment 28) right on.
cernig, you took this in the proper light, thanks. I also agree that the church is extremely intolerant of anyone that is not part of their sect. I don't feel bad about sticking them in the ribs now and then. They thrive on the backs of the poor and burden them with doctrine that is often nearly impossible to follow. There is a reason why people are leaving the church and why the church is finding it very difficult to recruit new priests.
All in all, my point was not to offend anyone. It was for a light moment. We all need that, especially in these times. I will continue to post on the church, Catholic, Mormon, and otherwise, as long as they continue doing or saying ridiculous things.

chuck's picture

Give me a break. Over-sensitive? Clearly the sensitivity is with you, Cernig, since you have an issue with the Catholic Church. Point to me where the Catholic Church says Wicca amounts to Satan-worship? I doubt you'll find it in the Catechism.

My point was simply this: The headline was irresponsible when you consider that C&L is a major liberal blog site. If we want liberals to be taken seriously, then maybe we shouldn't resort to Drudge-like taglines.

I was not offended by the post, just thought it irresponsible.

Cernig's picture

Hi Chuck,

I don't think you'll find anything in the catechism about chimeras either, btw.

But since you asked, it isn't the catechism but will pointing you to Catholicculture.org, an article on "Satanism, Witchcraft and Church Feminists" be OK?

Regards, C

[...] do! For those who don’t know, Cernig at Crooks & Liars mentioned the above named post on their Blog Roundup yesterday. When I woke up this morning, instead of the usual 40-50 hits I normally get in a day [...]

lauren's picture

Cerniq, I'm always open to forgiveness, so don't worry about that. I agree, there's a lot of not cool stuff that comes from Catholicism. But that is true about EVERYTHING. There is so much to disagree with in all religions, I don't go around slamming Mormons or Pentacostals or Muslims and blatantly incensing people on what is a very touchy subject. I know when I hear a derogatory remark come from a Muslim leader about women that that is not what all Muslims think. I also know they'd be pissed if I said something offensive. If people get offended because we talk about beliefs themselves, that's their issue. But I can certainly understand why folks get offended when they see their religion being misrepresented in a flippant way. It's one thing to talk about disagreeing with beliefs, that's to be expected. It's another to be blatantly inflammatory about something like this animal business or what have you. Of course any blogger has the right to say whatever they want, but folks are sensitive about their moral beliefs, period, as a layperson I don't see any benefit in casting stones around on either side. btw, got no problem here with the wiccans. : )

chuck's picture

Cernig, that article and website doesn't speak for the church. It's just another example of fundamentalist Catholicism.
