Update: Well....this post is meaningless...Looks like Tucker's dad got his wish...

that the Libby team could take an appeal to the Supreme Court over the latest ruling on his case, but that the High Court rarely intervenes on these emergency motions. I don't know about you, but with the way this court has been ruling and if I was Scooter---I'd go for it. Remember what Justice Breyer said?

"Never in the history of the court have so few—done so much—so quickly."

Tucker Carlson's dad says:

“I hope it puts pressure on the president. He’s a man of pronounced loyalties and he should have loyalty to Scooter Libby,” said former Ambassador Richard Carlson, a member of Libby’s defense fund. “It would be a travesty for him to go off to prison. The president will take some heat for it. So what? He takes heat for everything.”

Amazing! And just as I read about this what song comes on my computer............Jarvis Cocker 'Running the World'. Seems fitting doesn't it?!

This is a gift to the Democrats. Clinton and Obama are probably ecstatic about the money they'll raise over this.

Yeah, the prez will take some heat for it...in the afterlife, in hell.

God almighty, I can't believe this. How long will the Democratic Party bend over and take it from these neo-cons?

If Bush wasn't such a craven piece of scum, he'd come right out and say it: "Breaking the law is okay, if you're a loyal Bushie." What a contemptible pig.

This administration is now seen as snubbing their noses for our laws when a jury clearly saw him quilty as hell.

of course it accomplishes nothing (other than making me feel good), but after this latest debacle, i was compelled to send yet another email to the white house (and cc dickhead cheney, of course):

subject: if it walks like a thug and talks like a thug

you people are truly beyond belief.

it would take more energy than i have (and as a father of three young boys, i’ve got a lot of energy) to catalog the egregious offences you and your “administration” have committed against this once-great nation.

commuting little scooter’s sentence today is just your latest “fuck you” to the american people. it’s not enough that you lied to get us into war. it’s not enough that you lied about leaks and leakers, all the while doing the leaking yourselves. it’s not enough that you manipulated the justice department for political gain. no, you have to step in and overturn the decisions of judge and jury in a transparent effort to keep one of the insiders from turning on you.

well, right back at you.

fuck you.

MARTIAL LAW IS NEXT!

Bush has just made a travesty of the legal system AND declared himself higher than the law of the land. I could see a pardon, actually I thought that is what would happen. But this, this is just unthinkable. Bush has, with a commuted sentence, declared Libby guilty but because he is Dick Cheney's asswiper he goes free from jail time. Bush has, in one fell swoop, said the judge was wrong. And the damn Republicans from day one have never said the conviction was for OBSTRUCTION, they have the twisted it around so that half this country thinks it was for "outing" a CIA agent. Bush has said the prisoners at GITMO are not entitled to representation, yet he commutes the sentence of a CONVICTED FELON. Totally disgusting.

Okay, that is it. Either the Democrats better start taking a damn forceful step in restoring the laws and constitution or else they are going to find their fat asses being tossed aside in November.

nsr's picture

Instead of raising his whole hand when he was sworn in, Bush should have just raised his middle finger.

Yes I can. A pardon, probably, but a commuted sentence? Declaring yourself higher than the judge but then this moron president has called himself "the decider"

What can possibly be done to stop this madness? Impeachment will take 2+ years. We can't rely on DOJ to take action. What can anyone do to stop it?

Amazing how far this country has tumbled. Years ago, we'd be stunned by this...now it's just another day in Chimpy's world. The US is almost unrecognizable. I'm so embarrassed, I simply tell people I'm form Canada when I travel abroad.

I'm just so numb...I'm like a tired, dazed boxer who's gone 15 rounds. I've got nothing left.

so lying in court is ok now? all rightee

I wonder if having his sentence commuted will enable Scooter to take the 5'th if called in front of Congress to testify - while with a pardon - Scooter would be unable to take the 5'th? I'm assuming that Scooter will still appeal his conviction and I'm guessing that while the appeal process is underway - Scooter can take the 5'th.

What does it matter?

Are *they* going to stop this mockery of the legal system? They can't. And won't. Why should they? Whoever the next president is will have to play just as dirty as bush has in order to combat all the crap the Republicans, the media, and right wing talk radio will throw at them. It's a downward spiral.

I'm not sure we're going to get our country back.

hmmm... you call yourself a christ-centered moral conservative? interesting... here is one person's take on what the bible says about lying (which, by the way, is what little scooter did, among other more egregious offences). you might want to brush up on that whole christ thing.

This is more ammunition for the 2008 election. Just like in the '06 midterm massacre the GOP will have their asses handed to them.

Think Bush and rethuglicans are already in deep shit over Iraq and a million other failures? This is the creamy, stinky, brown icing on their crap cake and voters will make sure they eat every last smelly crumb.

All AIPAC and AEI members have been directed to report to the POS POTUS bedside at bedtime tonight, in support of their 'president', and as a reward for his protecting their 'Landsman', Libby.

Reportedly, they will all sing 'Nearer My God To Thee' (in yiddish) as he drifts off to sleep.

Annoyed Canuck's picture

The question now is, how much of the fine will Libby from his own funds?

Little or nothing, I'd say. The Scooter Libby Defense Fund and its high-profile conservative trustees have been collecting cash to pay Scooter's legal fees for more than a year.

How much do you wanna bet that some deep-pocketed neocons will write Scooter big cheques to pay the fine?

That leaves the probation. Unfortunately, Scoot will have to take care of that himself (visiting his probation officer once a month - horrors!).

BUT . . . Think about it - now that he has had his 2 1/2 years of bend-over-in-the-shower time scratched, he gets to begin probation now - meaning he will be scot-free in 2 years, instead of 4 1/2. Shouldn't he have to do 4 1/2 years probation??

Why even bother with the Supreme Court when you have an EMPEROR. Lock up the "bad guys", give the "good guys" all the taxpayers' money. Simple. The end.

Edwin's picture

I don't think Bush really has any foreign policy. It's just whatever works to be able to pay Halliburton, Blackwater, the Defence Industry, etc., etc. Keep his buddies out of jail, reward those loyal, and screw the average joe.

And if you do so, please don't ruin our "Canadian name". Amercians are hated the world over. Don't make the Canadian fate the same. Act Canadian. What is that? We don't know exactly; that's the beauty of it. We're just there. We exist and mind our own business.

If you think it's OK for criminals to go free, release the 2.1 million incarcerated now. I'm sure they didn't mean to break the law (but they did).

The message from the neocons has always been clear. The only law they recognize is the law of the jungle, but they are just bottom just feeders who fancy themselves top predators. They will be very surprised one day soon when they see the lunch menu.

No, a travesty, was Susan McDougal going to jail for choosing not to lie to the jury and spending time in jail because of it. Scooter Libby lied to protect a crime, and obstructed justice-- the travesty is Mr. Libby not serving any jail time for the criminal act of outing the name of a CIA operative.

Guess that is what you do so that Libby would not flip on Dick and Baby Bush. Libby was not going to spend one day in jail. He would have flipped on his way to the prison.

I cannot understand this. You have Tucker and his daddy. Jonah Goldberg and his mommy. Bill Kristol and his mommy AND daddy. Why do these (and other) panty-waists NEVER cross their mommies and daddies? I had a GOP mother and a Democrat father. Maybe it was easier for me ... but no. You see, I am an adult. I have a mind of my own.

And oh yeah -- as an adult, I make my OWN money. I don't need to keep my hands on mommy and daddy's apron string, just to get their money.

You would think these children (with gray hair of their own!) would grow up!
