CNN American Morning: Joe Wilson Blasts President on Libby
(thanks to CTblogger for video)
It was just pointed out to me again just how unwilling the media continues to remain to characterize anything this administration does in a negative light...note at approximately 3:12 point in the interview, John Roberts tries to get Joe Wilson to guess as to why Fitzgerald didn't go after Armitage for the leak and says that despite Armitage's participation being known before Libby allegedly perjured himself. Allegedly??? Um, maybe the Bush administration has seriously compromised the criminal justice system more than I realized, but doesn't a CONVICTION indicate that it's no longer alleged, but proven?? (h/t BG)
UPDATE: CREW has Joe Wilson's response to that Tony Snow Lie-Fest this morning.

Fristtttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Proven. Good point.
...
Remember during the Cold War, how many of us made fun of Tass and Pravda...
I don't see a difference anymore :(
...how unwilling the media continues to remain unwilling to characterize anything this administration does in a negative light...
Er, what? I think there's a triple negative in that sentence...
There is some serious misgivings going on in this "interview". Why would John Roberts announce where the WIlsons Moved to? Did you see the look on Joe's face? They have had death threats and god knows what happenning to them. And John ROberts gives the world their GPS. What the F***?
This was a set up. And a call for psychos to cause harm.
I've heard other mentions of where the Wilson's moved to in the media...
Not sure John Robert's was letting "the cat out of the bag" but I do find him mostly a line-straddler, always slipping in the talking points to assure he seems "fair and balanced!"
God, our media is horrible. Instead of actually posing questions, the interviewer just tosses out right-wing talking points that have already been debunked a *thousand* times.
John Robert, like ALL allegedly holding themselves out to the News Reporters,
is an asshole who is in bed with the MSM, for none of them have the character
or ability to be responsible in their reporting of important matters.
I've come to believe there are a lot of powerful people behind the scenes protecting Bush and Cheney. Some of them may very well be at the top levels of the media empire and certainly at the top levels of other corporate empires. All of these people have a vested interested in maintaining a system of crony capitalism. I have become so utterly cynical the last six years, and now I'm almost at a point of hopelessness and despair.
Summary of Bush - Libby saga: UNDOCUMENTED CRIMINAL commutes sentence of a CONVICTED CRIMINAL.
Spicegal @ 9:
Absolutely accurate..Just look at Murdock(Faux Noise), GE owns/controls NBC,
Disney Corp, owns controls ABC, etc. etc. etc....
Bushco absolutely could not get away with their evil machinations without the support of a consolidated corporate media controlled by few people who themselves are easy to control through media ownership legislation. Be a good toadie and we'll let you buy up more TV and radio stations. Be bad and we make you divest.
and the dems do nothing....no impeachment!!! i tell you what, some savvy repubs could turn on bush/cheney and
steal the impeachment ball from the dems and we could see resignations!!!
oh dreams!!
He did it again tonight on Hardball.
One has to wonder just what fizt is thinking as he watches his conviction turn around and do a one finger salute in his face!
But such is the way with the bush admin. Poor Fitzs all that hard work right down the republican cess pool drains.
Oh and good eveing C&L folks too. Love this new format of comments.
A few other blogs might do the same in regards to halo scan.
Roberts, we'll agree that Libby "allegedly" perjured himself if all the rightwing sycophants will agree that bush was allegedly elected.
What a travesty, what a farce, what a debacle.
Mr.Wilson was great. He is a better man than I could ever be after all he and his family has, and is going through. Roberts was disrespectful, with the , "but Joe" crap. I wonder,if cheney had been on, would john of referred to him as DICK. (which would be appropriate of course)
crazy train @ 17:
"Dickhead" would have been even more appropriate.
Libby perjured himself. It doesn't matter whether any crime was committed or not. Libby LIED, John. John maybe you need to go back to the war zone. How dense are you John?
Hey now, when it comes to the Imperial presidency of Commander Codpiece and his flunkies in Washington DC, the crimes are always alleged, because, as Glenn Greenwald so devastatingly points out in his latest brilliant piece, anyone who stands with Mr. Mission Accomplished is on the side of good, and anyone who stands in the way of Dick "I wish Mary had gotten some" Cheney is an un-American pinko commie rat, who hates America and hopes that the terrists win.
It's really that simple.
Spicegal @ 9:
God, babe, I got there a long time ago, like in 2000.
The conservative moneyed, the money behind AEI and Heritage, the Federalist Society, made labeling "The Liberal Media" as the all around bogeyman one of it's key goals, along with eliminating the Inheritance (nee-Death Tax) and lowering Capital Gains and the top marginal rates. And, also, protecting corporate interests, lowering corporate taxes, and protecting them from lawsuits and ANY culpability (like the EPA or the FDA)
Someplace along the path, The RR, who really aren't moral or ethical, just paternal and retrograde, and the NeoCon/AIPAC contingent joined in...
None really wanted exactly the same things, but saw in each other fellow travelers who could help..
So, down went the middle class, and unions, all for the benefit of the Corporate Class, the Wealthy, and the Israeli political contingent?
Of course, the RR got it's USSC appointees in the bargain, even while they strangled reproductive rights at the state level...
And, for all this to happen, the Media had to be silenced.
So as where we had Walter Cronkite as the most watched TV News Man, now we have Bill O'Reilly in that Role?
That's just how tragic this is.....
"Dickhead" would have been even more appropriate.
Well maybe, but DH has shot at least one person, so, he would have to keep that in mind.
As usual, the MSM whore of the day works his/her ass off to put lipstick on another Bush administration pig...
I have just called mt 2 Senators and my representative. I urged you all to call your Senators and representative. Even if you have a republican Senator or representative call them. The democrats already know how we feel. Not enough disgruntled citizens are contacting the republicans. I've rewritten the Declaration of Independece. Check it out and pass it on.

"John Roberts tries to get Joe Wilson to guess as to why Fitzgerald didn’t go after Armitage for the leak and says that despite Armitage’s participation being known before Libby allegedly perjured himself. Allegedly???"
*cue Looney Toons theme music*
Is Armitage the wingers' whipping boy or what? They all have the mantra down. Armitage was first. End of story. Forget the man behind the curtain.
The corporate media is utterly corrupt. Why it falls to Wilson- a private citizen- to draw a correlation between Libby's commutation and obstruction of justice perfectly illustrates their moral and professional bankruptcy. In their willful blindness, they have cast themselves, once again, in the role of the administration's co-conspirators.
For that matter, has any democrat yet to echo Wilson's accusation in those terms?
After all, it's an ongoing, criminal conspiracy that leads directly to the oval office. Why, why, why don't they trust the American people to rise up in defense of the Republic, as they surely would, by supporting impeachment proceedings? If they are such cowards, they'll have proved their party as being no better than the White House crime syndicate they profess to hold in such contempt.
I overlooked the democrat's paramount role in permitting the Iraq tragedy to unfold when I voted in 2004. However, their behavior in the coming weeks and months will determine if I ever again cast another ballot for any democrat.
Joe Wilson handles himself like a patriot. Look at the neocons today. I attended Congressman
Walden's town hall meeting, then followed with a call to his office. It was a standing-room only crowd, probably 50% anti-war, probably about 30% pro-Cheney impeachment. Walden did not take the vote by applause seriously. His cronies were lined up to speak, at least 40% of the time. I let his office know that it's disconcerting to see him avoid the mood of the audience, and that since his position is "safe", I hoped he would consider the Kucinich bill.
My link for the adapted Declaration of Independence for cuurent time sometimes works. Try it again, please.

John Roberts often has trouble hiding his bias. Usually he's careful with his words, or relies on the talking points of others, but his facial expressions give him away. You seldom hear him use Democratic talking points.
Again with the Armitage bullshit. Shuster was great with this question: "If three banks were robbed in town one night, and one of them was robbed by Richard Armitage, do you not prosecute the other two robberies?"
And the commutation is a better deal than pardon for Bush. Libby can still appeal his conviction (and fine) yet still avoid jail. As long as the case is appealed, Libby can't be compelled to testify before congress. So, everybody wins (except Valerie Plame), and probably the guy that Cheney shot in the face will pay Libby 2.5 M$ fine.
Wilsons = Heroes
IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY NOW...NOT A SECOND LONGER!!!
John Roberts is a slimy bastard. Listen to the signoff:
(emphasis Mr. Robert's)
Code: Joe Wilson is a crazy hippie! I almost thought the "good 4th of July to you" sounded like "good 4th of July, dude."
OMG, I'm sounding like the craziest element in the dKos diaries. Or Alvie Singer in Annie Hall. ("... did jew ...") Eek!
Although I did wish that Joe was wearing a dark suit, regulation tie, and had his beard trimmed so that any "code" couldn't possible stick.
why would the news guy make it a point to tell
everyone that joe wilson resides in santa fe at
the end of the segment???
does he tell everyone where all of his guests live?
NO
carefulwiththatAXEeugene @ 36:
Thank you. I'm not completely crazy. Or, at least, I'm not the only "meta-paranoid" one. ;-)
[ Hmm ... quotation marks, both single and double, are showing up as backslashes in my browser. (using Firefox on an Intel MacBookPro2.1) ]
Glinda,
Thank you. I'm not completely crazy. Or, at least, I'm not the only "meta-paranoid" one. ;-)
that's weird, we both post the same thought at the same time.
Where Is The Un Bias
For those who are outraged about the commutation of Scooter Libby, let the energy of truth flow.
CNN stinks of bias and propaganda. I mean really stinks. From the false assertions Al Qaeda is our primary enemy in Iraq to the now infamous pre-pardon of Scooter Libby, CNN has solidified their biases, and it is conservative. Don't take my word for this claim, evaluate the quality of their broadcast about anything political. It is always full of right-wing biases and stories reported in a leading way.
As if there was not enough things in the United States, CNN has took upon their conduct to bias the current so-called car bombing plot in Britain. That case also stinks with propaganda and bias. With a supposedly assumption of innocent until proven guilty, why is CNN reporting bombings were being carried out by Doctors? Why is all the facts about the second car in the towing yard muffled? That car only smelled of gasoline and carried the contents of a bomb, To defuse it, you have to put the dam thing together. The biggest lie about this stems from the way CNN and all the other networks are trying to connect Al Qaeda to everything in this world associated with a bomb. I think they feel America is stupid.
CNN was once a quality outfit; I am not sure what happen to the quality standard everyone looked up to and followed. I know it is not there anymore. CNN is not the only one with a conservative stick up their asses. MSNBC, CSPAN's Washington Journal are also bias in the programing. In each, the bias is always to the right.
As it stands, the left or Liberal can forget about the TV media. It is so slanted it may actually be hurtful to put a controlled Liberal bias on these shows to be whatever they are trying to make of them. The current 3/1 ratio of Republican/Democrats makes Liberal ideologies appear marginalized before a word is spoken. We need a fairness doctrine badly.
Joseph
a) Anyone else spending the 4th with some Bill O'Reilly types? I plan on bringing up Caspar Weinberger and Poppy as a better analogy each time I hear about Frank Rich or Clinton.
b) Why does the corporate media want to bury this story? Why do they always play the devil's advocate when a non-Bushista comes on? (just kidding ! - I just wanted to know how it felt to type that sentence)
c) I think it is very creepy that Roberts brings up their new residence at the end considering that he was far from personable for 99% of the interview.
Independence Day, July 4th, 2007:
Grill a Republican for God and Country Day.
Why wait for Schumer and Waxman to "grill" Republicans before a congressional committee...grill a Republican on Independence Day about the rogue Republicans in the White House who are obviously out to destroy our democracy. Grill a Republican on Independence Day from "sea to shining sea."
Hmmm, I wonder what barbecue sauce goes best with "grilled" Republicans? Neo-con Spicy Honey? Mesquite Smoked Traitor?
The corporate media meme never deviates: Harmless indiscretions committed by democrats are serious offenses prosecuted inadequately Serious offense committed by republicans are harmless indiscretions prosecuted over zealously.
The answer to the question of why the media continues to carry bush's water was answered years ago by former CIA Chief William Colby. He said there is no person of significance in the major media who is not OWNED by the CIA. 'nuff said.
Good job to Mr Wilson to point out the one sidedness of the news media and how they will always say "they never went after the actaul leaker so it would make what Libby said perfectly leagal" I can't follow their bullshit logic either. but way to point out what the media always leaves out - that this case was halted due to Libby's lies. and THAT is why there was no one tried for the crime of outting Mrs Plame. - man it makes me mad!
CNN is doing pretty much what they did before the Iraq war. They repeat everything the administration says without asking the proper questions. The problem with CNN's so called connections to either al-Qaeda or Iran is that the body of their story never lives up to their headline. The irrefutable evidence is never revealed. Maybe it is refutable. We never see a transcript of the interrogations of the terrorists they cite. They show that weapons were manufactured in Iran, but not how they got into the hands of the insurgents. The proof is never quite there.
They consider the fact that terrorist logged onto an al-Qaeda website as evidence of an al-Qaeda connection. It never occurs to them that the terrorists can't learn how to build a bomb by logging on to CNN. Timothy McVeigh and Eric Rudolph would probably have logged onto al-Qaeda websites if they were available at the time. Some CNN reporters nearly turn blue with frustration if they can't get someone to say that the terrorists are al-Qaeda linked or al-Qaeda inspired. Their lame excuse before their behavior the Iraq war was that they didn't want to buck a popular President so what's their excuse this time with Bush's ratings under 30%?
The CIA even ran a formal training program in the 1950s to teach its agents to be journalists. Intelligence officers were "taught to make noises like reporters," explained a high CIA official, and were then placed in major news organizations with help from management. "These were the guys who went through the ranks and were told, "You're going to be a journalist," the CIA official said. Relatively few of the 400-some relationships described in Agency files followed that pattern, however; most involved persons who were already bona fide journalists when they began undertaking tasks for the Agency. The Agency's relationships with journalists, as described in CIA files, include the following general categories:
- Legitimate, accredited staff members of news organizations - usually reporters. Some were paid; some worked for the Agency on a purely voluntary basis.
- Stringers and freelancers. Most were payrolled by the Agency under standard contractual terms.
- Employees of so-called CIA "proprietaries." During the past twenty-five years, the Agency has secretly bankrolled numerous foreign press services, periodicals and newspapers -- both English and foreign language -- which provided excellent cover for CIA operatives.
- Columnists and commentators. There are perhaps a dozen well-known columnists and broadcast commentators whose relationships with the CIA go far beyond those normally maintained between reporters and their sources. They are referred to at the Agency as "known assets" and can be counted on to perform a variety of undercover tasks; they are considered receptive to the Agency"s point of view on various subjects.
Murky details of CIA relationships with individuals and news organizations began trickling out in 1973 when it was first disclosed that the CIA had, on occasion, employed journalists. Those reports, combined with new information, serve as casebook studies of the Agency's use of journalists for intelligence purposes.

When the crusades were in full tilt, a papal indulgence would be issued to the valiant Christian soldiers marching off to vanquish the Saracens. Bush's recent commutation of Libby's sentence is a sorry farcical instant replay of the same.
"We are grateful to The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the work is now much more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in past centuries."
David Rockefeller, founder of the Trilateral Commission, in an address to a meeting of The Trilateral Commission, in June, 1991.
"The real rulers in Washington are invisible, and exercise power from behind the scenes."
Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter, 1952
"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the Field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it."
Woodrow Wilson,The New Freedom (1913)
blasts from the past...
GRRRRRR...John Roberts is such a CFR SCUMBAG!!!
He doesn't even try to cover it up. When you ponder whether 9-11 was an inside job and wonder how so many in the media could have been complicit in a crime with no one coming forward - think of John Roberts. He represents just how low our media's gone.
Apologist Logic:
If the bank I was planning to rob burns down before I have a chance to get the money it holds I shouldn't be convicted of attempted bank robbery since my intentions were only discovered in the course of investigating for arson.
They also claim that was no indication of arson( Plame was not covert)
Apologists wish us to believe that, numerous people acting in concert to discredit Joe Wilson and using any means possible, were not responsible for Valerie Plame's job disclosure. And like the bank scenario Fitz not only uncovered Libby's lying, He caused it by investigating the obvious ( Armitage =fire)
Ok. this fantasy ignores the fact that Armitage could not have provided Plame's status would not have learned of Plame status if not for the efforts and questions put forth by Libby and others. The investigation by Fitz into the leak and its' intent led into the conspiracy to discredit Wilson . Because part of the covert statute deals with intent this area had to be dealt with as part of the investigation.
Libby lied in order to portray the leaks cause as idle gossip. He also lied as to who and when he spoke with reporters in order to limit the list of possible sources. He did his best to be the lone source .
Having heard Wilson speak in person, and having also heard snippets of his interviews about the Libby/Bush/Cheney hall of mirrors, I took special pleasure in listening to the sign-off in this film clip. The idiot in the studio wishes Wilson a happy July 4th. There's a measured pause from Wilson, after which he rolls with, "Yeah, you too." It was the perfect and sharply worded rejoinder by a man disgusted with corporate media's reframe of a treasonous conspiracy into a tabloid headliner intended to last one news cycle.
Mr. Wilson, my sentiments exactly.

Great quotes, thanks.
Spicegal @ 9
It's something many of us battle with. If you can get Air America, either on the net or radio, try tuning into Thom Hartman. He is really upbeat and is so knowledgable, the problems seem much less hopeless.
I keep reminding myself that my life has been so incredibly better than billions of humans now or before, I had better get my morale into 'we have to fight, we have to try' mode.
I guess we need to change the way talk about history. Nixon was allegedly connected to Watergate. Hitler allegedly was unkind to the Jews. Jim Jones was allegedly responsible for the deaths of 909 innocent people. Bush is allegedly responsible for the deaths of 600,000 people because of his lies about weapons of mass destruction. Japan allededly attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. Bush allegedly attacked Iraq that had no ties to 911.
Wow, did you see Wilson at the end of the interview? He looked like he was just fed up with MSM journalists and their same old questions.
I know that right wing blogs are saying the exact opposite. They're saying
right on John Roberts, you showed that Wilson guy whats right and true.
Then they only show the part where Roberts says; but Fitzgerald
doesn't know if there was a crime to charge Libby with
because of Libby's obstruction...John Roberts has a point there, right? Wrong!!!
Also the FBI knew about about Armitage and they still appointed a
Federal Prosecuter named Fitzgerald who is now a bad bad man.
And giving out where Wilson lives as an innocent aside.
Not to be anti Canadian but
er...up your 4th of July too John.
The MSM needs to be shut down.
