Mike's Blog Round Up
Paperwight: On one issue (guess which one), Bush 43 has finally followed Bush 41's example - even though, as Beggars Can Be Choosers reminds us, the quality of mercy is not Bushian. (And, from Avedon Carol: When does the President NOT have the right to pardon?)We had dismissed the candidacy of Mike Gravel, but a quote unearthed by Susie Madrak may compel us, in light of recent events, to take a second look.
Boing Boing: Google appears to have disowned a corporate blog post offering to help the healthcare industry "promote its message" with ads that would appear alongside search results for "Michael Moore" or "Sicko."
Instaputz: Perhaps Glenn Reynolds should have asked Question #34.
Prose Before Hos: Fight terror. Go shopping for "pure silver recovered from Ground Zero"!
Whirledview: "This administration can't even issue passports - so how can it possibly do public diplomacy?"
Guest blogger Simbaud hoists a glass in memory of the late, great blogger Jim Capozzola (1962-2007). Send your links to Simbaud AT gmail DOT com.

"ooh..pardon me, Mr. President".
"Suuure Pardner...here...have a pen".
Bush's Promise on Ethics in 2000:
"So when I put my hand on the Bible, I will swear to not only uphold the laws of our land, I will swear to uphold the honor and dignity of the office to which I have been elected, so help me God."
"In my administration, we will ask not only what is legal but what is right. Not just what the lawyers allow, but what the public deserves."
For the history, see:
"Neither Right Nor Legal: Libby and the Bush 2000 Standard."
Google..."Do no evil"....riiiiight. Looks like it's past time for another couple of crazy, idealistic guys to get into the search business. This pair has been bought.
How to trample the constitution and laws time and again with little or no resistance from “concerned citizens”.
White House won't rule out Libby pardon
AP - 8 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - The White House on Tuesday declined to rule out the possibility of an eventual pardon for former vice presidential aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

Well...might as well just repost it! LOLOL!
Regarding Google posting ads counter to Michael Moore's movie Sicko:
I started a labor blog (http://joehillsboots.blogspot.com). At first I added Google AdSense ads. When I checked later, the AdSense ads were for companies who assist in union avoidance and strike-busting. I terminated the ad service immediately.
This article adds to paperweights commentary:
Republicans duck and dodge over Scooter
"Many experts thought the floor of Bush's public support to be in the mid-to-upper 20s, but the president’s decision to (pardon or no pardon) save a convicted staff member from doing prison time could sink him even further and perhaps push even more swing voters away from the party."

I thought the white house wasn't going to get into the libby deal as long as it was on appeal. Does this mean libby isn't going to appeal his sentence now? If they are going to pardon him, why do the commute business first and then pardon? Why not just pardon him to begin with. I'm missing something here. Are they testing the political waters by not pardoning him first?
It's about the “consolidation of wealth and power into higher tighter and righter hands,” as George Bush Sr. once said.
Now that the lawless and criminal Bush/Cheney gang have given the US congress, the US justice system and the American people yet another "fuck you!", will Pelosi consider putting impeachment on the table now or will she once again blink herself into a seizure?
Joe O. @ 8:
LOL...mid to upper 20's! LOL! No. I think his floor of public support is with 16-20s rednecks married to their 14 year old cousins.

I vote for blinking herself into a seizure.

Ugh. Wait...there are companies that assist in union avoidance and help to bust strikes? Well, certainly there is great money to be made for those who are willing to wade in slime. These people may as well put their principles on the table and hire themselves out as mercenaries.
The silver from ground zero thing is really disturbing. Where's the silver from? People's melted jewelry?
It'll be interesting to watch the next Bush presser, now that he can't possibly say that the case is still ongoing...
Meanwhile, Glenn Reynolds has always been much further rightwing than he likes to pretend.

Fanon @ 19:
Supposedly, there was silver/gold bullion in the basement of the WTC when it collapsed. This is the bullion used by the Fed. government to back up some debts. However, that bullion is often moved between buildings in Manhattan to prevent robbers from knowing exactly where it is (see Die Hard 3), so it probably wasn't present, at least in large quantities, when the buildings collapsed. Not only that, but if it's the Fed. government's precious metal, why would they give it up so easily?
It was revealed a couple of years ago, that this silver/gold didn't come from the WTC at all, and it's just some gimmick to sell these coins.
Even though I am backing Ron Paul this year, I think that Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich are saying things that we all would do well to pay attention to. It's shameful how the media is ignoring them both most of the time.
I like Mike because he isn't afraid to say what he really thinks, instead of what he thinks you want to hear. That is refreshing.

I suppose technically it's July 4th in Australia... not that Australians would give two shits about Conservapedia.
Re Boing Boing: Wither Googles dictum, "Do no evil"?
The Sentencing Commission publishes the guidelines. US Probation recommends a sentence in the pre-sentence investigation report. I know these things. What I don't know is what the parole commission has to do with recommending a sentence. I never heard of the parole commission having any part in a federal sentencing proceeding. Why does snow keep saying that the parole commission thinks that this sentence is excessive and that it agrees with the preseident? They have nothing to do with it as far as I know. And jsut where does the parole commission say that this sentence is excessive.

Ron Paul apparently had MORE supporters attend his talk than the GOP debate he was banned from.
