Scooter Libby pays the 250K

scootercheck.jpg Libby paid the $250,400.00 fine today. Yes, what a hardship that was on poor Scooter. He really had a rough time coming up with the money, right Tony?

When are they gonna start doing those press briefings right and add a laugh-track?

250K no problemo for the Scootster.

Hey, what do you bet the wingers praise him for being so prompt?

Libby, "was a lawyer for fifteen years for one of the wealthiest people in the world -- up until the time of his pardon [by Clinton], he was -- arch-fugitive Marc Rich..."

Joe Wilson

Yeah i think Libby can afford it.

P-o-o-o-h Scootah, he has suffahd an-o-u-g-h, Miss Scarhlet.

What'd he do, call up 3 of his best friends and ask, "How much ya got on ya?"

Cigarette Change for these guys.

Yeah, Freddie T. and others in the Repig Party have already raised $5 Million(Yes FIVE)
for Scooter's defense, so what is $250 grand? N O T H I N G..!!

This guy didn't pay no fine... He had people do it for him... Some rightwing whack job buddies raised whatever money he needed long before any fine was imposed... Yea, it's real tough on ol Scooter....PFFFT JD

The money came from special interests who "gave" Scooter money to defend himself. Big deal. That's no hardship, or punishment, at all.

Reminds of the scene in the movie Quadrophenia wherein the judge solemnly imposed a $250 (quid) fine for disorderly conduct against the mod played by Sting.

Upon hearing the sentence, Sting just laughed, pulled the money out, and said "I'd like to pay it now" ... to the cheers of his fellow mod gang.

Likewise with Libby and the neocon clowns who underwrote this charade.

Go ahead laugh, but that's half of his book advance!

He didn't pay one damn dime out of his own pocket.

But..but...think of the CHILDREN!!!

Matalin was fundraising for Scooter on Imus during the Walter Reed scandal. They have no shame.

Mary Matalin @ 13:

But..but...think of the CHILDREN!!!

I do, but NOT Scooter's...I think of the childeren in Darfur

Where are all the "masterminds" of congress?

They can't figure this out and do the right thing?

freddie thompson's panhandling to the war party for scooter fibby has sure paid off (pun intended).

and, dare i say, this has worked out splendidly for the war party. cheney was protected by a loyal thug, bush never had to discuss the matter, scooter is free, karl rove still has his hand up bush's ass, and enough money was raised to pay fibby's fine, have a cool 3.75 million to funnel to themselves... ahhh, to be rich, powerful and corrupt in bush's 'mmurica.

and best yet for the war party, Operation Iraqi Liberation is still on going.

Samson- @ 17:

and best yet for the war party, Operation Iraqi Liberation is still on going.

Aaah...it's GOOD to be KING!

"Masterminds". . . I think I'm being overly hopeful of the Dems and Dissenting Cons.

250 K(ilos) of what?

GWB @ 18:

:-)

i'm sure cheney sneers those words to himself every morning, imaging that the mirror he's looking at shows his reflection...

"waaah, hee hee, waaaah, king if the waaaah, world"--dick cheney

Some, like Biden, Coyners, even Hillary, are speaking out, however
the MSM has already decided that bush did the 'right thing" and
are not giving the opposition the coverage deserved..

Oh oh thats right I forgot the Media has the last say in everything.

Obviously real tough on cootie.

How many millions does that leave in his pocket?

But think of the tax dollars we're saving not having to keep him incarcerated. Now he's going to have to pay his own living. That'll show him. Thanks, Mr. President.

Mad as Hell. Thats got be it.

See. Now this is a fellar that knows what he's talkin bout. This is how we grow the govmint. Well done, son. Well done.

Now watch this drive.

I hope he held on to enough money to buy his buddy, george, a cocktail to thank him for the favor. A non-alcoholic cocktail, of course. ;)

Get that check to the bank before it bounces!

THERE! now that's all done and over with. Now on to the next crime.

No, not the "last say"; but their inaccurate presentations
do have some influence on how vocal WE THE PEOPLE are.
And many, many can hardly wait for new espisodes of "Big Brother"

is the way to act.

impeach and indict. they all belong in jail.

Was Tucker Carlson's mom the first person to contribute to paying this bill, too?

I don't know why people are so angry. After all, Scooter Libby's reputation has been destroyed. He'll surely have a hard time finding work after this...

... just like Oliver North, Eliot Abrams or G. Gordon Liddy did.

no, i'm going to go with james carville's wife.

CNN gives us a pic of the check, eh? man...I miss the good old days of diagrams of Ronald Reagan's nose cancer being printed up in the newspapers. That was hard-hitting news, I tells ya!

Yeah i think Libby can afford it.

I also heard recently that his family the wealthiest of any other White House employee though I was unable to source it and don't know if it's true.

Scooter is doing the happy dance today.

Then later he turns up in the movie as a bellhop. I wish that would really happen to Libby.

awww poor guy -- sucks to not be able to re-invest your monthly dividend/ interest.

Think of his poor family will suffer.

if there is any way we can all help we should pitch in.

Follow the money.

Trittydi:

I also remember hearing several years ago, when people were discussing Donald Rumsfeld's personal wealth, that Scooter Libby was one of the wealthier members of the Bush administration. I wish I could remember where that came from.

The judge should have fined him the entire cost of the trial, including lost wages of the jury members, as well as the salary of Fitzgerald throughout the entire time he had to research this farce of a trial. But then the right wing would have cried out, like Paris Hilton, "Not faiiiiir, it's excesssssive!"

He should have had to pay the fine in community service, at minimum wage.

Probably took a "no interest, cash loan" from Bank of Brehmer.

Gotta launder the Baghdad billions somehow!

Scooter Libby Pays the $250K: What a Hardship!

[Time wasting on Government IP-Sitemonitor]

I just finished going over the transcript. Tony Snow is pathetic. Why does he want to spend the rest of his life prostituting his integrity for this administration? Its unfathomable. He only got one decent question and it reads like it came from the Fox News Chair:

Q Yes, on this topic. Among those protesting the President's refusal to allow the Libby imprisonment was Maryland Senator Cardin, who announced that he was "shocked" at what he called the President's "double standard." And my question: Does the White House recall any such expressed Cardin shock at the non-imprisonment of Democrat lawbreaker Sandy Berger, and Marion Barry, as well as no imprisonment for that convicted perjurer Bill Clinton, and his pardon recipient Mark Rich?

Tony Snow. Nomen est omen.

John H @ 52:

blah blah blah, boohoo motherfucking libs. I hate you you cheaters!

BOOGERS!

Oh, you're just sore cause your boy got not only caught, but 'punished' for it. Whine about it in freeperville

Not only was it a fine that Tipper could afford, but he had financial assistance (i.e. welfare) in paying it. Tony Snow needs to die. Really. I have no mercy for that dick.

Did I say Tipper? Oh, I meant Scooter. I hate, Tipper, too.

You mean to say that the Scooter doesn't get to wear a lovely ankle bracelet?

Interesting facts in the article. Makes one question whether the man/child Bush acted too quickly in communting Libby's sentence. The man/child Bush may have to pardon Libby after all. Traitors... all of them. Republicans, weak on crime; Republicans, weak on national security; Republicans, strong on lies, obstruction and unaccountability.

51 John H

Richard Armitage is a Republican, and was one of the signers of the Project for the New American Century urging Clinton to overthrow Saddam.

So Armitage had a vested interest in the starting of the war. He wasn't going to allow Wilson or his wife to intefere, even if it meant treason on his part.

Since Tim Russert, Judith Miller, David Gregory, John Dickerson, Bob Woodward, Walter Pincus, and Matthew Cooper all said they were told (about Valerie Plame), by either Scooter Libby, Karl Rove, Richard Armitage, and Ari Fleischer, this suggest a much larger organized attempt at treason, all centered around the chainey office.

Libby basically prevented a thorough investigation.

John H @ 52:

250k for a miscommunication; a miscommunication that had NOTHING to do with the investigation of leaking. this assisine argument has been blown out of the water, discredited, poked fun of, slammed, joked about, countered, disproved, exposed, pooh-poohed, etc. so many times that the only thing left to be said about it is...

bwahaahaaahaa!

the rightwing is in serious trouble if this is the best they can do. of course, it does take a specially gifted person to argue successfully against logic (and john h, you are not that man--sorry to say)

"dear old Scooter" will get back the 250 K 10 fold with his cronies in the neo - squad.

Nice try Phcuktard. Also, Armitage was/is a REPUG. Get your facts straight. Oh I forgot, repugs hate FACTS.

Did he have to cash in some of his Halliburton stock to cut this check? Just wonderin'...

Thank goodness Fred Thompson could help him out.

My theory is simple really. Libby couldn't personally afford to pay that kind of money "out of pocket". His money must be spent acquiring the blood of young virgins. Why the blood of virgins? Well, the Libby family bathes in it. It's a necessity. It's got a nice pure color. It invigorates their vampiric souls.
The Republicans support "abstinence only" programs so Libby can find as much of this virginal blood as he needs. Sometimes Cheney, Coulter, Limbaugh and others come over for a "hot tub of blood" party. I know this may sound "crazy"...but, you know, just think about it.

(from my '58' post)

normally would shrug my shoulders and move on but this is too glaring to let go uncorrected, shoulda been:

"this asinine argument has been blown out of the water...."

Paid for by the contributions from the hard working men and women at Halliburton and Blackwater.

robert novak, from his traitorous op-ed, 'mission to niger', wrote (and i am quoting a snippet):

"Two senior administration officials told me...."

that first word, 'two', is a number meaning more than one, but less than three. now, i know armitage is a hulking mass, but i don't think novak would have counted him as two people. novak might be pure evil, but he can count.

He paid the fine by sucking 250 of the whitest dicks in DC, I betcha!

And I bet he sobbed buckets over it. Quite a big slice out of the 4Mil (or something) defense fund that his crime buddies raised for him. You can't see me, but I'm rolling my eyes.

I don't think that many of us could pay it in one payment....

John H. @52...............

"Richard Armitage, the democrat".... Oh holy Jee... Ahh fuck it... Just shut the fuck up dude! Take it back to freeperville. Noones buying that shit..... What turnip truck did you just fall off of Johnny?.........................JD

And now these repug morons are saying chimpy is playing to his base instead of another moronic cliche, "duh, he has to play to his base," meaing the idiotic 29%ers. So the hell with the 71%ers.

Money is what repugs have plenty of; they are robbing us of our lives, liberties, beliefs, livelihood, blood, sweat, tears, oil and money.

Our presidency is ruin, the constitution is on a respirator, voter fraud is a repug art form, the legal system has been sucker punched and the economy is in the tanker.

I'm sure chimpy thinks longer on how to remove brush or his golf swing; scooter was promised freedom in return long before he was found guilty.

You better bet it.

will he get to write it off his taxes as a business expense?

From Wolfowitz's World Bank discretionary funds...

No... court fines are not tax deductible.

Scooter didn't even have to thank Fred Thompson for that dole of graft. Fred just got the cash and paid Scooter's debt, the pricks!

When can we nail ugly Freddy? We need to NAIL this greedy, lazy, Nixon hold-over. This marks the 2nd time this idiot has used his position as a GOP tool to sell out the American voter and justice, teabagging a corrput administration. He gave that Dick Nixon's team a heads-up back in the day that the Congressional Investigators were comming after his tapes. Now he's used his graft-taking lobbyist connections to pretty much PARDON Scooter. Ugly Freddy and his too useless tool sons do nothing but suck graft from the GOP connected corporate teats to America's great CHAGRIN. This swill has to be illegal! We need to start following the doe-ray-me on that trio of evil-doers. I want to see Ugly Freddie GO DOWN just for helping Scooter.

Don't cry for Scooter, he'll get it all back w/ interest after the pardon. One thing's for sure, I'm sure that an honest integrity laden man like Scoots will declare the 250 large on his income taxes, (@%15 cap gains of course).

I have heard that legally you cannot be put on probation unless you have serverd time in prison/jail.
What do legal minds say? How would that affect Libby's 2 year probation?

Has anyone heard whether Fox has made him any job offers yet?

Since when did legality enter the equation? Obviously you don't understand "new law". The V.P. is NOT in the executivw branch, and you are violating many as yet unenumerated laws by even suggesting a parollee get probation. He's served his time, now drop it!

I'm sure Cheney will funnel some of his blood money from Halliburton's no bid government contract windfall at tax payer expense over to Scooter to offset this $250K. The conservative political elite sacrifice nothing. Scooter can take that to the bank!

scooter paid so promptly so as not to appear dishonorable in the eyes of the public. of course, that wouldn't explain why he didn't pay it the day sentence was handed down, but who's going to draw that distinction?

250k? that's chump change for that prick...he'll make that back and more when the administration leaves office. If these bastards get away with the profiteering of Iraqi oil, I will personally go the cemetaries where they are buried and piss on their graves (if there isn't already a line)

No big surprise that the banking institution is Bank of America which is a GOP money shaker and mover. That 250K didn't even come from his own pocket anyway. You know the taxpayers paid this.

Lets face it ladies and gentlemen, BushCo is a mafia organization.
Who cares if Libby has to pay 250k (pocket change for these types) and Libby having a criminal record is also irrelevant as he is 'in the family' and thus will always get a job.

Given that this administration has stolen and embezzled trillions, $250,000 isn't even pocket change, it's more like the money that stuck to the bottom of their shoes.

This convicted felon will be reimbursed 100 times over by the neocons. He'll also get a lucrative position in some neonazi think tank. The thugs who want to run this country will view him as a hero.

Bush has completely derailed and obstructed justice.

Scooter Libby was Marc Rich's lawyer for fifteen years. He testified to Congress that he thought that Clinton's pardon of Rich was appropriate. If Clinton hadn't pardoned Rich, it's quite possible that Libby would have gone to jail for perjury and obstruction and justice in covering up Rich's crimes.

GOP lawyer: Facts 'misconstrued' in Rich case

For all you folks who are sick and tired of hearing about Ron Paul, he is the only presidential candidate who is on record opposing both the pardon of Marc Rich then and the commutation of Scooter Libby now.

I wonder if "Publishers' Clearinghouse" was printed on the check?

What did he do, dip into his piggy bank?
