Al Gore Brings Live Earth to the National Mall
Grist: Remember how Gore wanted to have the U.S. Live Earth concert in Washington, D.C., on the National Mall? And then Inhofe was all "it's partisan, you can't do it, neiner, neiner." And then Gore was all "fine, we'll have it at Giants Stadium in New Jersey." And then Inhofe was all "fine!" And then they both slammed their doors. Yeah, good times.[..]
OK, not really. But sorta. Let me explain:
Al Gore announced Friday a surprise Live Earth concert in Washington ...
The former vice president said the all-day "Mother Earth" concert would be held on the National Mall at the National Museum of the American Indian -- about two blocks from the Capitol -- as part of Saturday's concert series focused on climate change. The headliners are Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.
You can stream Live Earth here...well, that is, unless you're on a Mac.

First!
American Indians are my homeys.
Al Gore for president!
It works fine on a Mac. I have been watching it all morning on Safari with no glitches.
However, your comments fields turn all of the apostrophes I've used, and "quotation marks", to additional slashes. Any idea why, or how to fix it? I'm tired of eschewing contactions. As I said the other day, "It's driving me crazy."
Ooops...sorry...apparently the "slashes" only appear during the preview function.
Live Earth? Waste of time, energy and money.
It's hard to believe that a senator would be so petty about a concert such as this and create inconvenience.
Here in Toronto, the Live Earth has been on the air since last night (Friday) at 9 pm EDT. The entire telecast is in HD.
Check this US Carbon Footprint Map out, has United States Interactive Carbon Footprint Map, illustrating Greenest States. This site has all sorts of stats on individual State energy consumptions, demographics and State energy offices.

It's the celebration of the Live 8 G8 GDP tax that Blair doubled the day after the London bombing. The Harry book is out, book seven.
Toronto has rumors of a dirty bomb and it turns out it's really the reactors won't be on line until the fall. Al should stop trading the weather and earth for his using Lucifer.
Mother earth? Worshipping something other than God and trading the earth.

FED @ 8:
uhhhhhh..........
NChomsky @ 5:
why
[...] Clark Link to Article al gore Al Gore Brings Live Earth to the National Mall » Posted at Crooks and [...]
Because most of bands participating are signed to the same corporate conglomerates that are interlaced with companies like Exxon Mobil, GE, & weapons manufacturers.
Or like Sony, who has a huge factory in Indonesia, where workers pump out Sony products for a buck a day, under a dicatatorship imposed by General Jakarta,... the companies make more money off their music than the artists ever will, & all that money goes to keeping new ideas off the table, & making usre that with two illegal wars & sanctioned torutre, that there aren't any protest songs on the radio.
NChomsky, it is NOT a waste of time. LiveEarth as probably the most important event of the 21st century, bringing both awareness to the planet's plight caused by western style capitalism and American greed and that Al Gore is ready to lead America back to sanity and peaceful coexistence.
JohnnyThief @ 12:
man, i hate to see your negative side.
Brandy @ 13:
youre a part of the conspiracy, why do you hate the earth? :-p
Professor F, I love mother earth but America is trying to destroy earth so a few rich Republicans can drive SUV's. Al Gore will put a stop to that.
Freaked-Out Canadian @ 3:
Yeah. Here's what I get on Mac 10.3.9 with Firefox
So very NOT COOL!
What's up with that crap Al I run my global warming slideshow on a Mac Gore?
It is on MSN. That is why it is mainly IE.
I wonder if everyone involved has to drive or be driven in Chevy cars and SUVs, since they sponsored the event.
LiveEarth attendees don't have to be driven there in Chevrolet Suburban SUV's. That is hogwash. Chevrolet sells small cars too. My uncle has a Chevette. Gets great gas mileage.
What is hogwash? "I wonder if... Chevy cars and SUVs?"
Good for your uncle, and please try to keep up.
im watching it .... they showed a clip of the indian villages in alaska loosing their homes because the land is thawing and eroding. they are americans and they have received no help from the federal gov't. but wasn't there a senator from alaska that wanted to build the "bridge to nowhere" for like for hundreds of millions of dollars for 50 rich people
all you complainers need to look at the big picture so that you can direct your complaining in a more useful way:) im watching this live earth now, and it's very informative.
careful, yah the bridge to nowhere, so 50 rich Republicans can dribe their SUV's to visit the eskimos.
They SHOULD be driving Chevette's instead like Brandy's uncle and they wouldn't need such a big bridge in the first place.
This is the kind of thing that Al Gore will stop.
BTW, at which concert will Al G be there in person?
Poor Mac users, don't cry!
You can watch it on Bravo on your 300w big screen. ;)
Live Earth is just more political BS from a group of people that THINK it will make a difference to ANYONE. Not remember the AIDS concerts? Did it cure AIDS or make a difference? Nope. How about FarmAid? Make a difference? Nope. But hey, both made billions of dollars, eh? How about Financial aid concerts for Africa? Did it wipe out African poverty? Nope. It's pure political bull, and people buy into it. Please people, pledge your hard earned dollars, so some SOB can pocket more.
This is supposed to educate people on the realism of global warming? Hell, everyone KNOWS it exists and having concerts will not change anyone's mind anywhere. Those that believe something should be done, already believe something should be done. Those that call it BS, are still going to call it BS (Faux Noise, etc). The people that should be convinced to something about global warming are corporations, not the people that ALREADY know something should be done and quick. So Mr. Gore, maybe you truly do believe your lectures. Good. Now convince your rich corporate buddies to do something about it and quit lecturing everyone else. WE KNOW. We've known for a long time. Either run for president, or start yacking at Mr. Corporation, not us.
How will Rich Capitalist Assholes Singing for Moron Capitalist Assholes help with Global Warming ?
Gordo @ 25:
i think he's in washington. i'm not sure though.... this concert is pretty cool. you can watch the china feed, the brazil or the uk or germany ect ect ect.
jk @ 28:
Exactly. But oh, we'll be able to see "free" concerts on television!! Oh big deal. And hey, if you log onto the LiveEarth website, they are begging you to donate your dollars. Yep, that'll sure cure global warming. What's next? Hey how about a global concert to combat gullible stupidity?
NChomsky @ 27:
we are the corporations because we are the consumers. it's actually very informative. are you watching it?
"we are the corporations because we are the consumers. it’s actually very informative. are you watching it?"
Nope. Not interested in helping corporate advertisers (part of the problem) make more money.
Knock knock, puddin' heads. If global warming doesn't represent the promotion of a political agenda, why is its promoter/liar in chief a politician, who no doubt plans to run for president.
NChomsky @ 32:
o
OK... no big deal. maybe you already do what you can. maybe the enlightenment doesn't need to reach you. but there are others out there who need to have their consciousness elevated. sometimes you are not the target audience. but people are going to be watching tv anyways so they might as well get smart....cause if they don't then their children will lose.... big time.
It's incessantly boring, but it does work on a Mac. Worked for me anyway.
Bruiser @ 33:
you are ugly
Live Earth is a fucking joke.
Just a bunch of rock stars polluting because they have enough money to buy their way out of it.
careful, thanks, I know that Al Gore will save the planet if we allow him to do it. Al Gore will go down as probably the greatest American since George Washington. Al Gore can solve global warming if the GOP will just sit back and allow him to do it.
BTW, is Al Gore going to sing at any of the concerts? I hear he has a pretty good singing voice. A lot better than George W. Bush's singing voice -- which is another reason to vote for Gore in '08.
Wow, Duran Duran is absolutely terrible.
Gordo @ 38:
i'm sure his voice is better than john ashcroft's , but i seriously doubt he will sing.
though ...he has given some impressive speeches.
careful, yes, Al Gore is very impressive. He has an impressive singing voice as well -- which I thought he was going to feature at his concert. I think that if hec sing about global warming, in addition to his brilliant speeches about global warming, he can bring over a lot of the youths of America in to more conservation, like driving small cars like Chevettes rather than big Chevy Suburbans which pollute and cause the icebergs to melt.
Im watching some band called Duran Duran right now
Duran Duran, why twice? Two Duran's. The onll thing we need two of is Al Gore -- go Gore Gore (not Duran Duran)
RHCP is coming up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gordo @ 41:
Well he can't sing like this guy. Keep singin' it John.
Damn that didn't work.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M789kRvbziM
Poor Mac users, don’t cry!
You can watch it on Bravo on your 300w big screen.
Yeah, if you don't mind the chattering of the two idiots "hosting" the concert (no to mention all the commercials)
I don't like this idea either. At least some of the other charity concerts had a goal of raising money and awareness of problems that people weren't aware of. Everyone has heard about global warming though. If they were doing this in support of specific legislation, I might see some good in it. As is, it's just a big waste.
john frusciante is blowing my mind!
Naysayers. Al Gore is trying to do SOMETHING big and all you can do is criticize him for doing it. What's the last concert you organized? Didn't think so.
Mike Morrison @ 48:
i recycle, i walk to work, ride my bike. i unplug unused appliances. in a world of SUV's and excessive waste doing what you can can be a lonely road. this concert is for all those people who do what they can. it brings people to together and helps them to realize that
they are not alone. maybe it's not for you !!!!!!!!!!!
this is the last pessimistic post i'm going to respond to today!
THE RED HOTS ARE ROCKIN!!!!!!!!!
More abortions so that there a less people polluting is not so bad either -- which is another reason to support Gore and liveearth concert. People should stop being so cynical and see all the good Al Gore is doing without making one dime off this.
Well said, CarefulWiththataxeEugene. I caught an interview with Keith Urban earlier where he said that, when playing a gig in some other part of the country (he didn't say where) he was booed by the audience when he mentioned he was playing "Live Earth. This is the kind of country we live in, so it's great when there is any effort to bring about change.
I agree with those who want more Al Gore performing (singing etc.) at his concert rather than just introducing Duran Duran to the youths of America who already know about that.
Gore needs to tell the youths of America to put away their litter and liveearth hopefully will accomplish this.
Looking forward to Kanye West.
And I don't think more abortions are the answer. Even though the more people there are the more pollution there is, the more people can also clean things up which is what Al Gore is trying to promote at his concert.
gene214 @ 53:
Yeah, I frankly don't know how Gore keeps his idealism. This country's really been taken over by shits.
gene214 @ 53:
there is a strong culture in America that celebrate it's ignorance, wallows in decadence and indifference, and champions cruelty of the other.
NY Times had a list of things you can do to stop global warming:
#1: Eat less meat.
Factory farming is amazingly inefficient, both from an energy standpoint and a resources standpoint.
End of lecture.
New York Times list of ways to reduce carbon footprint:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/01/fashion/01gside.html?ex=1184385600&en=...
they are tracking the data for the carbon emissions generated by the concert and working to offset their footprint.
What about those who advocate reducing the human population (through, for example, more abortions) to stop global warming? They say that growth in human popluation is causing global warming because if some people conserve but there are more people, there will be no net benefit.
Al Gore like it or not is the equivalent of a "false prophet."
[Deleted Fact free post from here on out. You are entitled to your opinion, which I left up. Actually Reich wing 'science' and talking points. No thanks. Not interested in furthering those particular falsehoods here-Sitemonitor]
If Al Gore doesn't announce his candidacy today, I do not think it is ever going to come.
Go take your meds, Clintonsbill.
clintonsbill @ 63:
i don't think so. you make a good argument for conservation. maybe al gore's answers are not the best but i think his movement is useful. you can't throw the baby out with the bath water. nobody else is stepping to do what he's doing on the level that he is on. there is no such thing as a absolute perfect prophet, perfection exists in the mind of the viewer. and you can't please everyone..... can you????
Who's the idiot interviewing Bloomberg (on Bravo)? She actually asked him how, converting the entire taxi fleet to hybrids, would result in savings? Uh, spending LESS on fuel??? Jesus! How do people this stupid get their jobs?
[Deleted. Trolling with flamebait-Sitemonitor]
Clintonsbill, you lost me the minute you posted the "Al Gore invented the Internet" Spouting discredited reichwing talking points automatically strips you of any credibility you might have had.
clintonsbill you are either plain stupid or getting well paid to look stupid.
NChomsky @ 27:
Yeah, I'm sure much of the money won't go where its supposed to go. But at least Wolfmother is rockin.
There's the alternative "non-partisan" show called "Fuck you, Earth." sponsored by Cheney and Haliburton, its on Fox.
The song that garth brooks did was outstanding. Didn't expect that from a country singer. I know, I know, but I just didn't.
Gene 214, I saw that too and felt the same way. The woman was Ann Curry, she's a news person but I can't remember what channel, it maybe CNN.
Just in case it hasn't been said yet, you can watch on Bravo if you get cable.
thanks for the wolfmother heads up!!!!! they are indeed rockin
Did anyone see Hardball where a certain right-winger called Global warming a left-wing issue?
Hail To The Chimp @ 74:
no but i saw that episode of noballs where chris mathews exposes himself as a fucking idiot.
[This thread is about Al Gore and Conservation-Sitemonitor]
[Deleted. Trolling with flamebait-Sitemonitor]
Well if global warming is a left wing issue and we can do something about it, we'll share our success with the right wing. If we can only make a small difference for everyone' kids and grand kids, is anyone going to complain? I say we try. Let's go for it!
The only extra heat I'm for is when Inhofe burns in hell. He may be the largest asshole to ever feel that heat. It's kind of a toss up between him and cheney and of course, ted stevens.
clintonsbill Says:
Typical big corporation propaganda...
Congratulations.
So if we can't do everything, we shouldn't do anything?
PO'D Patricia:
Gene 214, I saw that too and felt the same way. The woman was Ann Curry, she’s a news person but I can’t remember what channel, it maybe CNN.
CNN. It figures. Any network that would hire the likes of Wolf Blitzkrieg and Glenn Beck shouldn't surprise me.
[Deleted-Off Topic-Sitemonitor]
Curry's questions sounded like they were written by Fox News. She clearly showed her ignorance. Where the hell has she been the last ten years?
[Deleted. C'mon. We know you know what an ad hominem attack is. You've been throwing that phase around here like you authored the definitive etymology-Sitemonitor]
clintonsays
When you have something intelligent to say we will debate it don't worry.
clintonbill
you warren buffest says he pays less in taxes than his employees. he pays 15%
he offered a million dollars for anyone to prove him otherwise.
he would like to see that changed.
i would say that my taxes are just about right, the problem is that they are spent on the wrong things.
"Not one of us should feel guilty for behaving as expected in a civilization that we didn’t create." .............we create our civilization everyday. who else do you think generates our civilization??????
i think you should become a prophet of conservation..you might be good at it.
you, however are not doing any good in your attempts to assassinate al's character.
you're wasting you time there.
Yeah, that's great, Clintonsbill, you post to a bullshit youtube clip and claim it's proof! Give it up, will ya!
All pissing and moaning aside for a sec, when was the last time you could hear this much good music and not have anyone asking you for money? There's music for every taste and lots of good stuff a lot of us had not heard before. All they ask is that we stop being pigs with our earth. I don't think that's too big a request.

Somebody seems to need a burr-ectomy. Is there a doctor in the house? Someone has a burr up his or her ass and it seems to be making them cranky. The burr needs to be removed, STAT.
To everyone coming by from Crooks and Liars, thanks! By the way, I didn't say it couldn't be done, just that it was inconvenient for non-IE users. I found this surprising, since Gore used a Mac laptop and Apple's Keynote software for much of "An Inconvenient Truth".
clintonsbill @ 91:
blah blah blah, I hate Gore..."He invented the internet" ..blah blah. More anti-Gore diarreah. He's not running for president so relax. Watch Shakira.....look at her hips go!

Pretty soon you will tell us the earth is flat and it has been created 6,000 years ago...
Clintonsbill, just sit back and enjoy the music. Calm down and have a nice afternoon. Enjoy living while you can. The Gore boogie man isn't going to get you. Chill out dude.

Was "ad hominem" the phrase/word of the day or something? Calling someone a ECO Nazi seems to me to be a great example of the definition of the word/phrase of the day.
these boards seem to go down alot more often
i have to say that MADONNA was absolutely stunning.
how does she do it? nobody can do it like she does.
FYI, update that post on the homepage. As others have noted, the streams work fine on the Mac, you simply lack the live concert schedules.
Mac users should install Flip4Mac and then Quicktime will play the Windows Media stream.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/flip4mac.mspx
It's a little odd that Al didn't / couldn't get Apple to host this event. He's on their board of directors, and web standards and an H.264 stream would have pleased a lot more people. Moreover, iTunes streams and iPod downloads would've been nice. Apple is synonymous with digital music... Microsoft is synonymous with the brown Zune.
ROGER WATERS IS AMAZING... I HAVE GOOSE BUMPS!!!!!!!!!
I am not a big Maddona fan, but I would like to know where I could find a woman that age in that good of shape. To everyone, enjoy the music.

[Deleted Fact free post from here on out. You are entitled to your opinion, which I left up. Actually Reich wing 'science' and talking points. No thanks. Not interested in furthering those particular falsehoods here-Sitemonitor]
Actually, Mars, Jupiter and even Pluto are getting warmer! Those are science facts and if you don't believe that go to Google and search for "solar system is heating up". It is also a science fact that the magnetic polls of the Sun flip every 11 years or so and that you can look up through another quick Google search. It is also a fact that the Sun has been very active and this adds to global warming. A great way to educate yourself about the sun would be to visit the NASA SOHO site. SOHO shows us sites like this...
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/gallery/images/large/tricomp_prev.jpg
Mars is showing us these sites (slow loading motion GIF image)...
http://www.msss.com/mars_images/moc/CO2_Science_rel/polar_pit_animated.gif
Now regarding taxation, it was my opinion (you said I was entitled to) that TAXES are demand destruction in action. Taxes are in fact tools of communism. I quick trip to Google yeilds a treasure trove of quotes by the likes of Thomas Jefferson...
"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of currency, first by
inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive
the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers
conquered."-- Thomas Jefferson
"Paper is poverty,... it is only the ghost of money, and not money itself." --Thomas Jefferson
"Put down the banks, and if this country could not be carried through the longest war against her most powerful enemy without ever knowing the want of a dollar, without dependence on the traitorous classes of her citizens, without bearing hard on the resources of the people, or loading the public with an indefinite burden of debt, I know nothing of my countrymen. Not by any novel project, not by an charlatanerie, but by ordinary and well-experienced means; by the total prohibition of all private paper at all times, by reasonable taxes in war aided by the necessary emissions of public paper of circulating size, this bottomed on special taxes, redeemable annually as this special tax comes in, and finally within a moderate period." --Thomas Jefferson
Taxation is a tool of the Federal Reserve to steal our savings through inflation!
More proof that the Sun is at least a contributing factor to Global Warming even though solar activity causes "solar system wide warming" or cooling through low activity cycles.
