Taking chickenhawk lessons from Bill Kristol
After all my time here at C&L, I admit to being a little jaded when it comes to media coverage. I expect things to be partisan and tend to look at it as post fodder more often than not. But every once in a while, some moment will seep past my cynical shell and frankly, make me want to throw something at my TV. I caught Matthew Continetti from the Weekly Standard on C-Span this week and that was one of those moments.
Luckily, uniongal at dKos also saw the show and got video of it. Watch the arrogance of this Bill Kristol protégé and see if you don't feel the same impulse.

He looks like he's just the right age to carry a gun, a helmet, defective body armor and have his smirking ass sitting in Iraq
Cun*
he really does smirk, doesn't he? wow, would I love for him to go to Iraq, that would wipe that smirk right off, wouldn't it?
I bet he got his ass kicked alot in school. This is his revenge
He responds by saying he has a Constitutional right to express his opinion, as if anyone ever challenged that.
The caller's point was that Continetti is guilty of moral cowardice by supporting a war-- when the military is falling short of recruitment goals, by the way-- and yet not joining it himself.
It's a good point, and obviously true.
they ought to be showing this clip during dinnertime at the various mess halls in iraq. and then maybe matthew could go on a little fact-finding mission to iraq and 'chat' with the troops he purportedly supports so much. the weekly standard would only have to pay for a one-way ticket, methinks.
This young man is clearly deluded.
Give me 2 minutes with this guy. 2 Minutes!
His mama stills wipes his ass and changes his wet panties.
Why would anyone want to (Debate?) call in to a show, where someone like this has all of the control of the phones and always has the last word?
His body language is *exactly* like Bill Kristol's. He must completely idolize that nitwit.
what a loathsome, sanctimonious, self-important little prig
how do these young snerts get on the teevee ?
I have got to see C-Span when this punk shows up.
I will give him a political whipping ... and do it exactly like he does: calm, cool, collect. And with a SMIRK!
He is so full of shit, he won't even know what hit him!
Were I ever to have the good fortune to come face to face with this revolting excuse for a stinking dog turd, I would consider it my duty as a member of the human race to smash every tooth in his smarmy chickenhawk head.
"The Bloodthirsty Murder of Millions" post earlier-Phej Omatic @ 22
I rest my fuking case!!!!
I couldn't listen to the whole thing. As soon as he started with the "unconstitutional argument" bullshit I had thoughts that C & L has prohibited expressing on this site. That guy is one disgusting little fuck and I hope he suffers pain and anguish like nobody has ever suffered before. But I hope he stays alive to suffer those things as long as possible.
This is a Ralph Reed type guy. He's probably diddling little boys in restrooms in Florida.
Just 2 minutes. That's all I want.
Iraq Surge Wins Rave Reviews:
For example, take Iraq escalation co-architect Frederick Kagan. On June 29, he told the House Foreign Affairs Committee that success "is quite likely." At an American Enterprse Institute event this weekend, Kagan crowed:
At the Weekly Standard, long-time Iraq war cheerleader Bill Kristol proclaimed on Monday that the surge is working "better than expected." A chickenhawk himself who never served in the military, Kristol offered President Bush some martial advice in warding off his surge critics:
Meanwhile, South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham lauded the Bush escalation in Iraq. A veteran of both the armed forces and an April shoppng spree in Baghdad ("I bought five rugs for five bucks"), Graham concluded Saturday:
For the details, see:
"Iraq Surge Wins Rave Reviews."
He seems more like a George Will Clone to me. But, I guess that's a matter of perspective.
I'm sorry (REALLY sorry, cause I don't want the association) - but I watched 10 seconds of him and my Gaydar was off the charts! Methinks we have another hypocrisy bomb that will, without doubt, go off in future.
Yes, I know this is pure conjecture, but that was my honest reaction to him. I'd never had the "pleasure" of seeing him before...
baby jesus threw an empty beer bottle at the computer
I doubt Continetti remembers stuff like this.
In November 1986 Hoffman was arrested along with eleven others, including Amy Carter, the daughter of former President Jimmy Carter, for trespassing at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. The charges stemmed from a protest against the Central Intelligence Agency's recruitment on the UMass campus. Since the university's policy limited campus recruitment to law-abiding organizations, Hoffman asserted in his defense the CIA's lawbreaking activities.
On April 15, 1987, convinced that the CIA had broken international law and committed higher crimes, the jury found Hoffman and the other defendants not guilty.
is that the same nazi like bill kristol of the Weekly Substandard . . .
That punk is sitting there like he is on top of the world. You can bet Bill Krystal is behind the camera giving him support before they head off to their little tryst at a Motel 6.
2 Minutes.
wire rim glasses. check.
suit and neck tie. check.
pasty white. check.
no military service. check.
not likely to serve in the military. check.
So far so good, only 2 to go. If in a few years he starts (1) getting out of shape and pudgy and (2) balding while retaining his current political views, Matthew will be a full fledged certified right wing chickenhawk.
yeah...
any bets on 20 years from now this little shit demeans Iraq war vets...
as he's campaigning for high office???
maybe some "purple heart" band-aids???
maybe a little challenge to the authenticity of medals bestowed???
yeah... little shits like him have no respect...
shameless...
L.A. Confidential @ 22:
See we knew back then the Politicians were not going to do anything other then keep their own asses covered.
LOL -- he makes an issue of the constitutionality of the caller's question! I shudder to think what sort of playground beatings he must have endured to end up in this sorry state.
What a smug little shit..... he was just BEAMING at his own resume
Typical t-shirt tucked in his tighty whiteys, masturbating with surgical gloves, destined to be arrested in a public mensroom, republican chickenhawk, Senator, in the making.
Get off the teevee and go eat your fishsticks and finish your homework.
Yeah, I don't like his body language. Yeah, I don't like most of his points. However, I think he does have the right to express an opinion on foreign policy and the Iraq War without having to put on a uniform. I think he's also right that attacking people who support keeping a military presence in Iraq but who have not joined the army is too simplistic to win an argument. It's a good insult. It makes sense to me. But it won't convince anyone whose not already on your side, since it's just an insult, not a reasoned position.
Continetti also claims that intelligence showed that Iraq somehow posed a threat to the most powerful country on earth, the United States, with their mythical WMD. He also conveniently ignores the Downing Street Minutes, which revealed that the United States was intent on going to war with Iraq at aleast as early as the summer of 2002. Richard Clarke and others have stated that Cheney would oftentimes come into the offices of the NSA in order to try and persuade the analysts to cherry pick that intelligence which would be most favorable for the U.S. to use as an excuse against a third world country like Iraq. What Continetti and others like him will never admit is that the United States was wrong in invading Iraq, thereby causing the deaths of upwards of a million innocent Iraqis, and that it remains wrong in foolishly continuing to occupy Iraq, a war which he supports but yet refuses, like the Bush and Cheney family, to risk his life by fighting alongside those poor bastards in Iraq. Support the troops-bring them home safely-now.
I especially liked the part where he said that the first caller was making an *unconstitutional* argument by suggesting he should take up arms for the war he supports. Pointing out someone's unwillingness to sacrifice while requiring that others make the same sacrifice is not a matter of Constitutional Law.
Technology has basically neutered us. Thats the problem.
I love the phrase "win in Iraq".. Like our words are somehow thwarting that here! What a fucking joke! We lost when we went to war based on lies from Chimpy and Co. Now we have lost "the war", we don't even adhere to principles that our nation is supposed to be founded on, we torture in secret prisons (of course some of that is contracted out to the Jordanians, Egyptians, Syrians and possibly Latvia? This country and it's "populace" (see virus is so full of shit that "it" can't see the forest from the boobs.. I mean trees!
several dozen family members of wounded and dead soldiers have big plans for lying con men punks like continetti.
cellulose @ 32:
He's been waiting to use the "Unconstitutional" buzz word since him and William Krystal were discussing this in bed last night.
yeh, that kid is a smarm bag.
It's not even worth getting down and arguing the points he tried in vain to make. Shit, it would be too easy and a waist of time because you all have already debunked them 100 times. hahahahahahahaha
The poster-child for a Young Republican with a six-figure income; Life is good right now.
But if the economy craps and your trust fund set up by daddy tanks and you find yourself waiting for a bus some day; you might change your outlook. Smug Punk!
This priss makes the best case for a military draft if I ever saw one.
Excuse me for a sec, while I wipe my vomit off the computer screen.
There, that's better. I'd better never see this little pussy in person, because I'll mash his fucking Anthony Robbins horse teeth back in his head.
My uncle died in Vietnam for rich, intellectual ideologues like this fuck.
Let's talk about the "volunteer" army, composed of kids who didn't have the money to go to college and were promised a college education, not to be blown up.
And national guardsmen, who didn't exactly volunteer for back-to-back-to-back tours of duty, years away from their families and banktrupcy in some cases.
Are these soldiers victims? Yes.
When they are used for the personal financial gain of wealthy leaders and for political gain, and not for well-planned, targeted missions, yes, they are victims.
Matthew is a cutie yet his views repulse me and try as I might I can't help but envision him on a mattress on his back with his legs to Jesus.
Forgive me lord for I am having sinful thoughts about a chickenhawk!
2 minutes. That's all.
"I think he does have the right to express an opinion on foreign policy and the Iraq War without having to put on a uniform"
My opinion is, young kids who are eligible should join the army if they think the war's such a great idea.
Don't muddy the waters.
Plus, he has CSL.
gallery @ 29:
in another 20 years he'll be caught smoking meth with a paid male prostitute.
Captain Kangaroo @ 8:
I'll go with if you give me one of those minutes! Ya gotta keep him alive though if you take the first one.
I watched that live when it was on for about ten minutes then I changed the channel to the Cartoon Network..
So this is the future of the conservative movement?
I'll be polite and leave it at that.
Captain Kangaroo @ 43:
I can't imagine it would take anything like that long unless you plan to lecture his remains afterwards.
he looks like a little kid. his smugness come off in a very childish way.
ah yes the constitution. something you use for convenience to wipe
your ass with you smug little shit. this little guy was bred into his form. SCARY... little chicken hawk. reminds me of the zombie claire louise booth gals that emulate ann coulter.
All the Conettis, Krystols and their whole vile ilk had better make as much money as they can, while they can.
The number of bereaved, betrayed and angry people grows daily. The architects and boosters of the policies that have caused and cheered on all this suffering will need to buy themselves a lot of physical protection for the rest of their lives.
These guys like this twerp and his mentors have no real resistance. They laugh in our face and smirk daily at us while breaking every law in the book and trashing the constitution while laughing all the way to the bank.
The Dems? No further comment. I'll believe it when I see it from here on out.
TRANSLATION: "It's his 'constitutional right' to be a hypocritical coward."
I love it. It pretty much sums up the entire philosophy of the current Republican elite. "I support the war, but personally, I'm too 'valuable' a person to go and fight it. I'm better off being a captain of industry than a captain of infantry.." Pretty much the same self-delusional 'principle' that Bush, Rove, Cheney, Wolfovitz and the other chickenhawks used to 'support,' yet slither out of having to serve in THEIR war. To this day, Rove still claims that he slithered his way out of serving in Vietnam on libertarian 'principles.'
Imagine, if you will, if this little turd and the big shit Krystol actually WENT to Iraq and ran this line to a group of soldiers on their second or third tour in some godforsaken hole in the desert.
God, just think of how badly they'd get the living crap beaten out of them.
We can dream...
someone check to see if his back pops open to change the audio tape.
another f'n right wing teddy ruxspin. swell.
Actually, now that I think of it, the next time that Rove claims to have ducked the Vietnam war because of his libertarian principles, somebody should ask him why he used his bogus college deferment to do it, instead of visibly standing up for his principles, and maybe even going to jail for them, the way Mohamed Ali was willing to do.
Rico @ 40:
Agreed. And that's why there's no anti-war movement in this country -- because chickenhawk dipshits like him don't even have to deal with the inconvenience of deferments or light duty Guard assignments to avoid putting their asses on the line.
bilhelm-X @ 34:
I should really try proof-reading.. Anyway, remember the war on terror? WTF happened there? I watch Reuters, AP, CNN. It's all bullshit! This morning the CNN headlines were "Al Quesadilla has regrouped, now as strong as they were at 9/11" (Whatever, did that come from Skeletor's stomach too?), LA to London flight diverted to NY" (Did the passenger have C4 strapped to his/her body? Did airport security fail to actually catch somebody? Is employee security missing the boat at airports? Nah..), the rest was fluff and sewage as ever. It's like I live in some surealistic world of bullshit whenever I look for information from the "news" media. Every time Bush is caught red-handed fucking up suddenly there's a terror alert or a terror hunch or a terrorist plot involving terrorist tampons and of course, nobody specific. Yeah, this chickenhawk weasel is pathetic but he doesn't live in reality either. I feel like I phase back and forth from reality to stupidity. All I have to do is go to CNN.com and I'm instantly transported to the plane of ultimate stupidity, wherein "Britney accidently exposes that she's stupid", "The White house backs staying the (golf) course on the Hill", "The worlds ugliest dog is more important than dead soldiers/civilians/torture/the rape of law and liberty/etc.". I'm either going to have to tune out altogether or pop. Did the terrorists win yet?
Oh, he's just a little boy trying to act like a grown up. Don't pay him any attention. He obviously wants to project that he's smarter than he really is.
JR @ 58:
imagine him going to iraq then going around telling
yea but a similar little boy became president
I really think everyone ought to pressure him to go to Iraq to put his blood and guts where is privileged mouth is. He's prime fighting age. But he doesn't look strong enough to carry an M-16 in 110 degree heat.
This kid has the Bill Kristol smirk down.
Totally condescending, this Matthew Continetti character.
Rico @ 40:
AGREED!
There's a "New Math" catching on.
The way NYT and WAPO reckon with the new Iraq report, 8 of 18 is "Mixed Marks" or even "some progress". Where I come from, a mark of 44 is a solid F, and "8 good and 10 bad" is no progress at all.
It's not just grade computation that's new, apparently there are new ways to measure time. Suddenly January and September are six months apart, and some say that time has stopped completely so that this past January will always be six months ago.
At this rate, we can only hope that 2008 is even going to happen at all.
Lennox @ 20:
I think you are correct. Other than being a total p-ss, this guy probably knows that if he were to join the army, he'd be outed very quickly.
Rico Says:
This priss makes the best case for a military draft if I ever saw one.
Yes, it sure does. This punk being called up for a draft, or the two minutes with Cap'n Kangaroo will turn this prissy bitch from continetti to incontinent. He'll piss all over himself.
The little bastard isn't old enough to have a beard to shave, but he has an opinion worth listening to about war? Bill Kristol's towel boy
By the way, did you see that this guy has a biography on Wikipedia, which looks like it was written by him. Wikipedia is asking people to fill in more details. Perhaps this would be a good idea. Or at least LINK it to the Wikipedia entry on Chickenhawks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Continetti
Fran Taylor @ 63:
Perfect. That was good.
He's got a constitutional right to be a candy-ass [Deleted. Candy-ass will suffice-Sitemonitor]. And boy is he using it!
I too stumbled upon the smug, little cretin on Sunday morning. Fortunately, however, like all good American males I was armed at the time with my remote control, and was able to escape from the experience before suffering any irreparable harm.
Joementum @ 56:
Which is exactly why Charlie Rangle proposed a draft. And he was laughed off the floor.
The wealthy (disproportionately white) have nothing to lose in this war.
It's helped bolster the stock market.
It's helped grow the real estate market.
It's helped rally the uneducated masses around religion.
It's helped create support for conservatives.
So a few poor people lose their sons and daughters. That's a sacrifice that's worth it so they can have their "freedoms."
Well, it's un-American. EVERYONE needs to sacrifice. Now that the Democrats are in charge, we need to re-institute the draft.
You want to see the war end overnight? RE-INSTITUTE THE DRAFT!!!

He knows it.
And he loves it.

What have you got against dog turds?
RickinSF Says:
He’s despicable.
He knows it.
And he loves it.
He's a regular ann coulter. He needs a little black dress.
I think the most unfortunate part of this is that he's obviously a very smart and articulate young person, corrupted by promises of power and influence by the people who started this war, perpetrated the lies to gain the opinion of the american people and profit from the death of american soldiers and iraqi civilians.
It breaks my heart to see someone with potential lack a soul.
Hard to take a kid seriously as an expert. Expert denotes experience.
Rico @ 40:
Believe me, you wouldn't want this guy fighting next to you. He would be the weakest link and would probably get you killed. Right after he wet his pants.
RickinSF @ 74:
You're probably right about that. He's free to spit in the face of his critics from the safety of a TV studio, just as he's free to push for a prolonged war that won't require any sacrifice on his part. Supercilious little f*ck is reveling in it.
jesus christ leave the kid alone isnt it bad enough he cant get laid and that he has to spend his weekends squeezing pimples and festered spunk builup boils on his nuts!
This guy is content to peddle the same silly story lines we've heard since this oil grab began.Yes Mrs Clinton voted for the war, with the condition that inspectors be allowed to finish their job-a stipulation ignored by Bush at the time and the media at large ever since. His response to being called out on not signing up to fight in Iraq was extremely cynical. He argues that he has the right to express an opinion about the war and to be asked why he hasn't signed up is somehow unconstitutional.Freedom of speech and all.
Well certainly you have the right to talk about the war,but if you are stridently pro war and young and able bodied, you have a responsibility to explain why you personally aren't over there fighting. If you are so convinced that America is under attack but still refuse to fight, then the onus is on you to explain why you are not a hypocrite.
At least he didn't resort to the other tired excuse that goes something like:"well just because theres a fire somewhere doesn't mean I should have to join the Fire Department.Or "just because I want the Yankees to win the Series doesn't mean I should try out for the team and wear the uniform".etc,etc.
This argument is even more intellectually dishonest.
See the thing is,in WW2 EVERYONE who could fight went to war.
Fire Men,Baseball Players,Police Men,Actors,Indian Chiefs,Lawyers and on and on.
War is ALL ENCOMPASSING.If the threat is indeed a UNIVERSAL threat, then it is EVERYONE'S duty to fight.Well these slugs never stop comparing this war to WW2.
The "threat" is everywhere we are told. The president of Iran is the new "Hitler"...
blah, blah, blah. So why isn't this guy marching off to war?
I guess like Cheney he has other "priorities".
Pure unmitigated arrogance. These guys are the real "elites" they pretend to hate so much.
I find his manner unpleasant and his ideas disagreeable.
So many people need to go to prison for a very long time for all this right wing evil it is not even funny. All the cheerleaders of this evil need to be punished. We punished the Nazi party members, we punished the Baath party members, we need to punish the Republican party members.
Ann Coulter is revolting, indeed, but this creature is an exemplar of the elitist attitude that believes everyone else should sacrifice to maintain his privilege.
To borrow from Leona Helmsley: "Only the little people go off to die in Iraq(n)."
LibertyLover @ 79:
Nah. He wouldn't make it out of boot camp. Imagine him lecturing his drill instructor about his constitutional rights! They'd send him home in flag-draped cigar box.
Joementum @ 28:
And weren't all those right wingers telling us to move to France if we didn't support dubya or the war a few years back? And he has the nards to bring constitutionality into the same exact argument.
I will say this...he does have Billy Kristol's smug, shit-eating grin down pat. Scum bag...
Matt 'ol boy grab a copy of Thomas E. Ricks 'Fiasco, The American Military Adventure In Iraq'. Sit down with a bottle of Jack, a few Xanax and a barf bag.
Ricks, a centerist, will make everything you think you know turn to shit.
BTW... grab a gun you little fucking dweeb and ship out. I know a few Sunni's who would love to have you over for dinner.
"I find his manner unpleasant and his ideas disagreeable."
*Kramer/Newman* "You emit a foul and unpleasant odor!"
"I loathe you!"
Good healthy looking young man.
Give him a gun and SHIP HIM.
Yeah, I've seen this super-twit, mini-pundit on political talk shows before, last time he had his ass handed to him. He reminds me of the nerdy kid in school. He is just as annoying as that other mini-pundit Amy Somethingoranother.
Matthew sure has a perty mouth!
"Unconstitutional"??? You're going to support a war started under shaky-at-best pretenses by an administration who has all but taken a lighter to the Constitution, and then you're going to smugly insult us by answering a rhetorical question by saying that it's unconstitutional?
I'm not trying to be an E-Tuff guy, making threats online, but I would be hard pressed to not plant my fist squarely in this guys pretentious mouth if I were to see him in public. I'm a Soldier, and this soft-handed rich boy doesn't speak for me. He is the one who insults, not the caller.

Funny Keith...very funny. Here's a tip for next time, read the comment section first before linking to a video, count the number of expletives and if they seem higher than the norm, don't click play. Republicans always send children to do their dirty work.
I have never wanted to commit violence so much in my life. Fuck I am pissed!
JR @ 58:
He may be smart, but let's not confuse intelligence with wisdom. Seems to be lacking in that department.
Let me see if I get this straight, his excuse not to sign up is that it would unconstitutional for him to do so... and not only that if he was forced to serve it would be an insult to the troops?
I mean, way to go... hide behind the constitution that other people have fought to defend and use the honor of those who fight in his sorry ass name.
Is there anything or anyone that these shitheads will not use or abuse.
Asking him to pick up the gun is akin of shitting on the troops... that is a new twist in logic.
a guy @ 1:
Cannon fodder personified. I agree - stuff his ass in a uniform and send him to Iraq.
I'm not going to listen though. I can't handle this today. And maybe not tomorrow either. Or the day after that . . . .

Interpreter of Maladies @ 94:
He strikes me more as a possible former protege of Mark Foley, Ted Haggard, or some other such closeted conservative. He just looks gay to me.
Back in WWI and WW2, a pompous pro-war civilian like this guy would have been shamed and shunned for his hypocricy. Back then, if you supported the war, you joined up.
On "Eye on Washington," which used to be on PBS on Sunday's, Continneti was making the case for continuing the Iraq war. David Corn simply said (I'm paraphrasing because this was about a year ago): "You are of military age. If you support this war so much, why don't you sign up and put your butt where your mouth is?"
I have to say, I spit my coffee out on the tv. Continneti didn't say a word for the rest of the show, hysterical.
Continetti, and Bill Kristol, are nothing but COWARDS in the employ of the Israeli Government.
Shared Humanity @ 103:
Hum... I did not see a single iota of smart in that fellow. I am sure this is one of those pricks who masturbate to John Clancy novels, has the military channel on 24/7 and is up there with that fucking prick Kagan, who is directing the "surge" without any military background.
Pick up the gun or shut the fuck up... This asshole reminds me of 99% of college republicans, that fucking shit eating grin disappears rather quickly when they are alone. I had a vet friend of mine heckled by a group of these pricks when he gas distributing enlistment forms at one of their pep rallies on campus. Now that is how they support the troops, this guy was one of the first to go into Irak (Gulf War I) and designate targets for airstrickes from deep behind enemy lines. Go fight, risk your life, spend 20 days in the fucking desert without a shower, come back home, deal with war induced traumatic stress... say something these pricks don't like and get insulted by a bunch of pricks whose only contribution to this country has been been born inside its borders. Suppor the troops indeed motherfuckers....
frankie @ 44:
What's CSL?
Oh, I think I just figured it out.
:o)
Pathethic wee empty shell of a human. He has affected the delivery and mannerisms of his twisted mentor. How do these "people" get airtime?
I always wondered what happened to Paul from The Wonder Years.
Let's see here, he has a constitutional right to support a war in which he is unwilling to fight and to suggest otherwise is demeaning to those who actually do fight and suggests they are victims and not volunteers in a volunteer army for which he has not volunteered. This is what passes for intellectual argument from a beautiful mind of the next generation of pampered and ever so privileged neo-con Illuminati in training.
We know what happens when you put guns in the hands of chickenhawks. If you sent this kid to the front lines he would shoot one of his comrades in the face faster than Dick Cheney.
No - you can't make me watch it! I won't!
This little fuck... I'd like to throttle him. I would take him on any day in a debate. There is nothing to his arguments. It is not, as he states, "unconstitutional" to challenge someone who advocates for this war by wondering why they aren't willing to fight it. Do you know what's special about this little shit? The fact that he is a "young republican" who can string 2 words together. That's it. He has nothing else. He is nothing else. The reason he keeps appearing and the reason why he gets the gigs that he does is because there aren't that many young republicans who can string 2 words together. That's it. It is the promotion of mediocrity. But think of it this way - at least he's not 39, living in his parents' basement and addicted to gaming like the bulk of them.

What exactly does it mean to "look gay?"
Wouldn't it be nice to hear a conservative with an original thought in his/her head? I like David Gergen and respect his point of view on things. Do they program these guys or what? Is there a term to describe them? Something more original than the Stepford conservatives.
What exactly does it mean to “look gay?
Happy?
Wow, he sure talks his way around the caller's point, doesn't he?
But he failed to address the point. That point--that he and many others like him who support the war but not over there fighting in it themselves--are displaying a sort of hypocrisy and a level of intellectual dishonesty that they frequently accuse others of. By standing on the sidelines when they are perfectly capable of fighting (and sacrificing) themselves, they are also proving themselves to be all-talk, no-action hypocrites.
That has nothing to do with the Constitution or anyone's constitutional rights but he sure is quick to invoke it. I'm surprised the guy didn't whip out a flag and wrap himself up in it.
Wow. Dude's a little kristol mini-me
Someone needs to seriously bitch-slap this arrogant, smug little prick.
I must have been a damn fool for volunteering during Vietnam, according to him. I've seen these little bastards before; it's the old, "Why don't you go fight, I'll hold your coat for you" routine.
Did you see David Shuster school this little shit on MSNBC's "Super Tuesday"? I'm surprised someone didn't have the clip up here already.
He clearly is out of touch with the troops. because the so many do not want to be in iraqnam especially those who have served multiple tours there.
I'd like to smack that smug grin off his face, just like they used to do in the schoolyard when they took his lunch money every day...
I just could not watch the entire response. What a shameful, arrogant human being. While other young men and women bravely chose to protect their nation this little squirt thinks he can look down upon them, their commitment, their heroism. He should recognize our heroes volunteered under false representations of material facts spoken by the president, colin powell, donald rumsfeld and others. Our youthful hero/idealists have no opportunity to back track or come home. In fact, their stays at home have been shortened. Their tours to the middle east multiplied. Continetti's parents should be woefully ashamed of this young man's amorality. Continetti will, some day be reminded of his lack of justice, understanding of moral propriety, and the tragic harm caused by this calamitous war. You are shunned Continetti. By Americans every where.
That little twit needs a smack in his smug pie hole...then ship his
ass off to Iraq where he wouldn't even last a minute!
What a punk!
Annoyed Canuck @ 111:
As a confirmed CS myself, I concur. He has perfect CSLs. But concern for hygiene dictates that we demur. Otherwise one could find oneself with a horrible case of OTS or Officious Twat Syndrome.
Hey, you guys had me so psyched up to be all outraged, and then the guy was just a pathetic little worm.
I think I'll save my outrage for someone that any one of us couldn't knock over with a toothpick.
Why isn't his stinky little ass in Iraq?
He won't directly support his "moral high ground" on the war by volunteering because he knows that he's the perfect point man... somebody has to take the first hit, and with his arrogant attitude... he wouldn't be missed.
War is a dirty, nasty, demeaning business. Unless you're commenting on it from a nice safe distance as an effete, intellectual snob who knows he'll never have to get his hands dirty, or actually risk anything. To people like this, soldiers are somebody you hire to take care of the unpleasantries of Empire, like the guy who spreads manure on your rose bushes.
I've heard these idiots say some incredibly stupid things but this takes the cake. The reason people make this remark is because it is true. If chickhawks had the power of their convictions, they would fight. They have nothing to do with America or American traditions. Where the hell does the right get these morons?
man, this guy's republican man-meat. ooooh, if only he was a congressional page.
While I agree wholeheartedly with the caller's point, I think this sort of call in with a ranting tirade only fuels the conservative idea that liberals are all just vitriolic nutcases, and makes it far too easy to dismiss or even ignore the point being made. Clearly this caller has far more emotionally invested in his call and his point than is needed for intelligent discussion. He should have left his emotions out of it.
Having said that, I think this young republican kool-aid drinker is THE poster-boy for what is wrong with the whole "strong-on-defence-suport-the-
troops" attitude exhibited by neoconservatism. It is always someone else's kid or father or husband or wife or daughter that has to carry out whatever pie-in-the-sky policy that they so vehemently support.
Young Mathew should try a bow-tie to go with that smirk.
I have to congratulate Willy Kristol for searching and finding an associate editor even MORE repulsive than he.
I may be sticking my neck out on this one, but I don't think this guy is even from our planet.
I hear ya Nicolle. What a smug little turd this guy is.
*Nicole
Put me down as one more veteran who has nothing but contempt for the chickenhawks who take so much glee in the combat of others. I would fight for their right of all Americans to have an opinion and to speak it. I just feel badly that our country is so filled with spineless, self-satisfied men and women who are so willing for others to die for them and their blood lust, their paranoid delusions that violence is an answer, and their seeming joy and glee derived from the horrors of war inflicted upon others.
Advocating the horrific violence, bloodshed and loss of innocent lives -- of the elderly and women and children and ordinary civilians, does seem to me to be more than just an opinion. Incitement to commit mayhem should be recognized as abberrant behavior. Have these people no conscience? Is this form of sociopathic behavior to be allowed to run rampant in this Home of The Brave and Land of The Free?
It seems to me that we need some new classifications for mental illness in this country...and Chickenhawkery ought to be at the top of the list.
Well you can certaintly tell he's Kristol's little minion. He smirks all the time just like him. He comes across as an arogant, smug little slime swimmer. I seriously just wanted to punch him in his big mouth. Jackass!
"Goes against the constitution...which gives every American the right to speak their mind, regardless of their biography"
This guy reminds me of the Mike Tyson type character on "In Living Color". He hasn't a clue what he himself is talking about, just throws out words and hopes they randomly mean something and stick.
Great stuff. Michael Continetti has the audacity to mention "freedom of speech" while evading answering the question as to whether or not he can "hold a gun". Actually, the question should have been, "would you hold a gun to protect your right to freedom of speech". The next question should be to ourselves: Do we want the likes of Continetti to hold a gun to protect our right to freedom of speech? Probably not. Either way, people like him cause too many good people to die. Not that this has anything to do with the war that never should have happened.
Isn't it ashamed.
Supposedly the best of breeding. That well upbringing only the smell of wealth can provide.
He makes one of the strongest statements against privatizing schools I have ever seen.
Has the defense dept thought of using this guy as a recruiting poster boy?
If you watch this guy respond to confrontation to truth. His body language says he is guilty of murder.
You know how O Rielly brings on his show, psychologist that reads body language of certain democrats for him on air?
Well I'm telling you, This guys body language says he murdered someone by poisoning them. And he is on CSPAN trying to poison us.
Thank science for anti venoms
Does someone go to some sort of special class to talk like that?
Bless his heart...such a pleasing and positive young man just
like that CNN fella Mr Beck. Very nice uplifting polite smile from
Mr. Continetti it just makes my tender heart sing as I get ready
for a little aztec two-step with ma trousers all down about ma ankles
hoppity skippity all the live long day.
I don't get the urge to throw something at the television but he seems a bit too smug for his intellect and his looks.
I just can't believe the wingnuts have the nerve to call us the "liberal elite". I mean, this guy is the walking definition of an elitist.
I do give him credit, though. It does take a certain amount of mental gymnastics to come to the rationalization that this war is so important that someone else should go fight it. It's not everyone who is willing to expose themselves as such a gutless coward. Most people I know have more pride in themselves than that.
He has the right to speak his opinion. He also has the right to join the army.
So why does this chickenhawk wimp choose only one rather than both? But the real problem with neo-cons is not only that, it is that they are traitors.
Typical republican chickenhawk. Smug, self centered elitist with incredible arrogance. These pricks see themselves as the ruling class and think they’re too intelligent to be marching with the grunts. The superiority complex just comes glaring through in this video. He needs to be thrown on the first plane to Iraq.
I would have loved to have this p**ck in my Basic Training Platoon 25 years ago. He wouldn't have lasted a single day before he'd have been reduced to a wide-eyed, sniveling, crying puddle. I saw lots like him make plenty of noise about how big and bad they were, but when the rubber met the road, they became the road. G****m Yellow Elephants...
Dis a..hole is nothing more than "Kristal Klear's" lap dog. He has to change his name tho, 'cause most Italians will not act like he does. He didn't make it in the girl scouts either.
As young as he is, he has outlived his usefulness.
