What if you held a debate and *almost* no one came?

A Picture of the GOP on Civil Rights
The one photo the GOP does not want anyone to see was snapped at yesterday's NAACP GOP Presidential Candidate Forum. The NAACP invited all 9 Republican candidates to the forum, but only one showed up: Tom Tancredo. All the Democratic Presidential hopefuls showed up for their forum.

Haaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahaha--------->Infinity!
Heh, figures.
Are republicans racists or what?!
Says it all, says it all.
Truly laughable. Shows just how much civil rights mean to these fucks.
Are they racist? "We report, you decide"
Wow, could they (the GOP) be any more insulting?
Are they trying to lose the whitehouse? Although, what sane person would want to take over the mess created.
That's rather telling, wouldn't you say? Also pretty disgusting. Guess we know what they really think.
Well, at least the Democrats don't have to go to the Pig Holler'n debate now.
And the fact that Tancredo is the only one to show up is really ironic. And yet, 8-9% of blacks still vote republican????
I guess it is against one of the family values they often talk about.
shouldn't that be on cnn and the others websites.
that certainly seems like a headline to me.
Hey Left Behind, does anyone really need to put on a debate to make the GOP look stupid?
well i just went to cnn's website and i did not see anything about it.
it's like it never happened in the "mainstream"
I'd caption this pic "The Lonely Bullshitter"
This is a sad statement by the GOP. How are people supposed o feel if you threw a party/debate and only one person came? Republicans have no class or feelings for anyone.
How come it wasn't televised?
I would have LOVED to have seen it!
The GOP put the 'White' in Whitehouse.
it's funny because cnn had nothing to report for that last couple of days
except odd and ends. this story is pretty major considering that the gop
just snubbed black people in a very overt way.
Picture = ONE THOUSAND WORDS.
It was a close, but ultimately Tancredo lost.
I wonder how the black troops in Iraq feel about this?
All the black troops in Iraq want to know is when they're getting their armor and when they're getting out. Think they care about some debate between rich white folk?
when i see this my paranoia about the MSM is justified.
they are really working in a organized intentional way.
this is not something they overlooked. i mean they report on John Edwards
haircut at every chance they get.
Seriously, you would think that since the GOP only gets 8-10% of the African-American vote, they would make an appearence - they certainly couldn't do any worse. Frankly they could just keep repeating "I'm not as bad as Bush" and grap another 2%.
But then again, maybe they just hate black people.
What do expect from the freedom hating party of ignorant white supremacists?
Well from an RNC p.r. perspective... Is this a spin spin spin moment or a move along nothing to see here little dogies moment...Jus wonderin...JD
carefulwiththatAXEeugene @ 22:
Of course the MSM is Crap Journalism. CNN and the others are corporate and in the end, they will do what makes them money.
As long as capitalism is uncontrolled, "we the people" will be oppressed.
I think I see another one hiding behind that flag pole near the middle. Judy Ruliani is that you back there? Come on out, lil buddy. The "coloreds" wont stab you and run off with your purse. They're just as much afraid of you as you are of them. :)
But really, the story here is the GOP doesn't care about POOR people. Here's an equally funny slip from today:
Q Is the Iraqi government and the Iraqi parliament taking the month of August off?
MR. SNOW: Probably, yes. Just not --
Q They're taking the entire month of August off, before the September deadline?
MR. SNOW: It looks like they may, yes. Just like the U.S. Congress is.
Q Have you tried to talk them out of that?
MR. SNOW: You know, it's 130 degrees in Baghdad in August, I'll pass on your recommendation.
Q Well, Tony, Tony, I'm sorry, that's -- you know -- I mean, there are a lot of things that happen by September and it's 130 degrees for the U.S. military also on the ground --
MR. SNOW: You know, that's a good point. And it's 130 degrees for the Iraqi military. The Iraqis, you know, I'll let them -- my understanding is that at this juncture they're going to take August off, but, you know, they may change their minds.
ZOMG Tancredo is sooooo sexy!! I bet he smells great too!!!
Imagine there was an election day, and, no republicans showed up.
I hope this is mentioned when Fox Noise starts complaining that the Dems are afraid of them.
Oh are you in for a rude awakening. Besides having that rude awakening you will be faced with choosing sides based on reality, not your own bigotries. I surely hope you can stomach the awakening.
Can only say:
WOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW. This needs to be spread around. Suggest that everyone e-mails this out. The MSM is not going to do it.
Interested Litigant @ 32:
I beg your pardon?
“Raise your hand if any of you believe….... oh never mind!”
There's an old saying that a gaffe is what results when a politician inadvertently tells the truth. By that standard, then, the Republican Party must be confessing its deeply held beliefs when it comes to race. After all, racial bigotry is not the exception in the GOP, but perhaps the rule itself.
For more on race-baiting as an essential Republican political strategy, see:
"The Amazing Race Card."
Salmineo @ 30:
Ahh, wait a minute, wait a minute. That was similar to an orgasm!
Maybe when the "Rature" occurs (Satan will take them all away in UFO's) this is what it will be like! Yippeeeeee!
There needs to be a Black Demonstration in D.C. over this. Talk about Taxation Without Representation!
Contact CNN and others while you are at it. Ask them why they don't care.
Why would they want to show up to that debate? It's more unequal than it would be for dems to show up to the fox debate.
[Deleted. Flamebait-Sitemonitor]
this is classic gop republican base support for the troops and for the nation.
NONE NONE NONE
they only support shithead dictators and criminals like cheney
what the GOP are too cowardly to show up to their own debate...well I guess that's about right I mean the people who vote for the GOP are just as cowardly as the people they vote for. It's a nice match!
"does the democratic party take the african american vote for granted?" - W
um...ok, george....
Ironchef @ 40:
If the GOP wasn't a bunch of racists they wouldn't have to worry about being asked questions about being racists...but that's just simply logic so I'm sure you missed the point completely!
[Edited quote-Sitemonitor]
Strawberry @ 34:
I don't get the litigant either. Please tell us who's getting the "awakening" and what it might be. An August false flag attack?? Come on litigant help us slow folk out here.
Well, do to caging and disenfranchisement the black vote doesn’t mean squat to the Giants Of prejudices.
C&L SHOULD PUT A LINK WITH THAT TO EASILY CONTACT NEWS MEDIA ASKING WHY THEY ARE COMPLICIT IN DISSING THE NAACP.
[...] From Crooks and Liars: A Picture of the GOP on Civil Rights [...]
Face it, the republican party is all but dead.
The old party has its roots in Social Darwinism and the neocon movment, (as well as libertarian), has its roots in Anarcism.
The republican party is a haven for any pyscotic tight-wad crybaby that don't want to pay tax, period.
wow Republicans suck
LandSurveyor @ 49:
They suck after they blow!
I don't really understand this. Did the NAACP not know that the republicans wouldn't show up? Why did they have so many podiums there? Were the candidates expected and then just didn't show up?
So... does anybody think this can be used as ammunition for when the democratic candidates don't show up for the Faux-News sponsored debates?
This is just the kind of same support the gop and the whole republican rightwingnut neocons give the troops. they don't care about poor or blacks or the brave troops. but in the 2008 elections guess they WILL CARE when those votes move to the side of the fence that does support them, the DEMOCRATS.
bush cheney and the gop think everyone is fodder to dispose of just like they are doing with the troops being discharged on false charges and for made up gop medical discharges.
Are you surprised? The Democrats have a woman, a latino, and a Black man in the same field. And the great part is that this isn't anything new.
Meanwhile, the Republican party hasn't changed race or gender since 1860.
Well at least with the dems not showing up to Faux news, they are not displaying overt racism. They are basically boycotting a fake news channel, not dissing an entire group of people.
The KKK-sponsored debates happened to be scheduled the same evening. Can we really criticize the GOP candidates more interested in securing their base?
ha ha ha, rcm.. good one.
Well, it looks like George Bush isn't the only Republican who doesn't like Black people, huh Kanye?
rcm @ 57:
Bang On!
Queue Keyne West, "The republican party doesn't care about black people"
This is utterly disgusting.
Well, the media has weighed in on the NAACP-sponsored debates; the controversy is about the Hillary/Edwards secret plan to limit the number of Democrats on stage...
Seriously, what did you think would happen?
[Deleted. Flamebait-Sitemonitor]
Ironchef @ 40:
Aah, another troll! Fun.
And for your education, the NAACP would touch on more subjects of importance to a vast majority of Americans than most other forums.
And the NAACP a racist group? My god, have comment boards given so much power to rightwingnuts that this drivel can circulate? Then again, thecomputer screen, like the hood, is a great place to hide behind when espousing utterly psychotic tripe.
[Quote edited-Sitemonitor]
OK. Now somebody try, just try, to make this Clinton's Fault.
Please note, everyone, that Repuglican Ron Paul didn't show for this debate either.
Can we bury him yet?
[Deleted. honesty, you are flamebaiting and off topic. Do you need a time out? Sitemonitor]
Well, that pretty much wraps it up, doesn't it?! Was there any doubt these pig$ at the trough weren't gonna show? Didn't think so...
You know the GOP is in a sad state when the only person showing up to a civil rights convention has called for Arab-Americans to be ethnically cleansed and has called Miami, FL a "third world country."
God help us.
The Republican party has been the racist party for at least the past forty years.
What's the sickest part is the no-show candidates went and did the math and figured out that by appearing there, they'd probably lose more votes than they'd gain. Almost nothing in politics happens by accident.
Maybe they should have had a Klan rally.
what if two of the prominent democratic candidates conspired to stifle democracy by getting rid of the other candidates for future debates, and no one on the left cared???
Your all wrong the GOP oves color folks unless they get all uppity. I am being faceitious
They wanted to make it but there was sale on white hooded sheets at Walmart.
[Deleted. Off topic-Sitemonitor]
So if it really was a scheduling conflict, where were all the other candidates on that day? Might be interesting to find out what was more important to the no-shows.
wow that is horrible
PNAAC Minister @ 8:
I dont understand why any self respecting black would vote republican either!
Someone said Ron Paul didn't show up...what I want to know is, was he even invited? After all, only "9 candidates" were invited, and the Republicans have 10 candidates! As you all know Paul has been excluded from debates before, so I wonder.
Ironchef @ 40:
Your blind ironchef, Tom Tancredo came and got a standing O! Besides it's like comparing apples and oranges. The naacp do not run stories and ads smearing and not being able to tell the difference between white people like fox does with blacks. The naacp dont put stories out to smear whites like fox did with obama and the madrassa issue and still no apology! And what they called an apology was not an apology! The truth is im glad the repubs didnt show up now i can stop hearing that crap about the dems are scared to go on fox, the dems wont go on fox because they know they are a smear machine trying to portray themselves as a news organization!
Mister Anderson @ 55:
WELL SAID!
gempei @ 65:
FUNNY VERY FUNNY! BUT YOU CAN BET SEAN HANNITY WILL HAVE CLINTON DERANGEMENT SYNDROME AND FIND SOME WAY TO PIN IT ON A CLINTON!
Come on C&L tell us did Trancedo win the debate or was it a tie? Guilliliar was a no show cause he hates chicken 'n watermelon...
http://www.milkandcookies.com/link/64087/detail/
Give a nigga a break!
"Mr. Tancredo, you have 30 seconds to respond to your last remark."
LOLx20
Oh well, if anybody can debate himself, ala flippitty-floppitty go-where-the-wind-blows-policy-stands, it would be one insane GOoPer.
The GOPers are rascists. They have no intention of serving anybody who isn't white. They know that, except for a handful of Clarence Thomas types, the African-American community is never going to vote for any GOPers. So, the GOPers are going where the votes and the money is.
Kanye West was dead on.
Well one thing is certain.
Anything this nakedly shameful will be all over the media...um..right?
yeah there are a ton of jokes and you are all real funny.....
but why isn't this in the MSM.
if it had happened to democrats in some similar fashion we would never hear the end of it.
the silence is a obscene. it's a pissing civil rights. and you guys are all making jokes and patting yourselves on the back for how witty you are. congrats...this is insane.
this is soo sad in this day and age... THIS IS NOT A JOKE

it really seems like everything is regressing.....we are for sure headed towards
a major internal conflict. everyone is asleep but complicit which makes for an unattended fire. it's really going to happen. there are 7 billion people in the world. we are the largest consuming nation in the world and our market share is falling fast. the rate of change is compelling but the media in their complicit ways are not compelled to report. transnational corps are doing good, but they are an illusion. the bottom is falling people. doesn't the stock market resemble a pattern of desperation?????? it definitely not stability. even if your mildly poor you rather have stability rather than snake eyes.
Minorities that vote repug are truly idiots in every sense of the word. I can understand them being out for "their own money"...but talk about turn your back on your own people.
When I hear about the ethnic Cubans being repug, I just shake my head. I guess they are such Hitler-like lock steppers, that the party that stuffs the pockets of the wealthy and salute the flag while reciting prayer "looks like" the true Americans.

The NAACP is a race-baiting organization. They blame all the problems that happen in the Black community on White "racism". Instead of embracing victimhood they should practice self-determination.
Heh, I guess the Republicans figured after Bush's response to Katrina they were already screwed.
That is what Hillary wants at the democratic debates.
Salmineo @ 26:
Bzzzt! Wrong!
Only as long as competition is stifled will we be oppressed. When there is plenty of competition, then there is plenty of capitalistic economic health and *DING DING DING* a diversity of views.
Then again, you'd probably want to stop people from selling their news business to a big media conglomerate just because you read it.
Mister Anderson @ 55:
So ... where are all the posters who complain that Democrats and Republicans are identical? I take it they avoid threads like this because it might confuse them with the truth....
Steve Smith @ 95:
your an idiot!
snorky @ 80:
I would like to know this--who was invited--too.
Among other things I'd like to know:
When was this event organized?
How quickly was it organized?
When were the GOP candidates invited?
When were the invitations received
What were the candidate's reasons for declining the invitation?
Was it discussed beforehand what issues were going to be discussed?
If so, how were the issues framed?
As the issues were framed, were the positions so irrational to a typical GOP candidate that they felt it was a waste of time to respond?
Most importantly:
Why did the NAACP waste all the money on on staging this debate if only Tancredo agreed to show?
Is this how people want their donations spent?
Just sayin'...
Correction:
Just critical-thinkin'...
Mister Anderson @ 55:
Yeah... Because the Democrats were the ones who freed the slaves. Haha... w/e
PNAAC Minister @ 8:
Yes, and 11 percent of the invited candidates showed up, so I think they're doing pretty well.
Its this guys birthday today.
How fitting.
http://lefarkins.blogspot.com/
What you are looking at is the death of a once great national party. It's fate was sealed by the grand "Southern Strategy" of the mid 1960's which exploited the virulent racism in the south. As long as the Republicans could hold onto the moderate pro-business, social liberal, small government types it delivered huge national majorities. As it pursued increasingly radical positions designed to lock these racist, xenophobic voters in, they lost the majority of America which has become increasingly tolerant and accepting of the wonderful kaleidoscope of humanity that we have become.
They will be relegated to become a regional party, catering to racists and hatemongers, wherever they can be found (the 30 percenters). You know who they are because we work with them everyday.
The real question is what party will finally allow for the Progressive majority to have a voice?
Sad thing is the most racist one of all is the one who showed...KKK Tancredo
who would love to see all brown people coming into America shot. And don't
dare speak anything but English around the grandson of non-English speaking
immigrants!
Bush sent the RNC chairman to the NAACP 2005 annual convention because of scheduling conflicts "which is true, because he was too busy scheduling conflicts (Lewis Black)
""Some Republicans gave up on winning the African-American vote, looking the other way or trying to benefit politically from racial polarization. I am here today as the Republican chairman to tell you we were wrong."
---Ken Mehlman at the annual convention of the NAACP
"I would have sent the Black Republican congressional delegation, but he retired"
---Lewis Black, Back in Black on the Daily Show
This isn't fair to Tom. He only showed up to tell the uppity nappy trouble makers that they were illegal aliens in his eyes. He wanted to be sure that they understood that he would send them back to their homeland, free of charge.
I find it ironic and sad that the only Republican to show up for this debate is the one who's running on campaign that is designed to scare people into believing that wolf at the door is undocumented workers who are Mexican. Oh and by the way to answer the question to why any black person still votes republican or any other minority (Women, Gays, etc, etc.) The answer is simple and I'm still surprised the mythical liberal press hasn't picked this one up. It's money. Republicans only care about making shitloads of money and screwing those who don't want to piss green.
They changed their minds when they were told no sheets & hoods would be allowed, inside . . .
Only 1 showed up... Must have been something about telling the truth or some such nuisance.
I would love to hear some black republicans' responses to this picture.
[Deleted. Buh Bye bob-Sitemonitor]
cleo @ 14:
Wow... I dont have anything to say... [Deleted. Then don't say anything-Sitemonitor]
Rudy Guliani was 15 miles away in Novi, MI when the debate was going on. He showed how much he doesn't like Black people simply by not even showing his face. It wasn't an inconvenience.
I am speculating here..
Considering the fact that Rove told Tom Tancredo "never to darken the door of the White House again, Tancredo is no longer on the White House mailing list. Rove sent out the word to GOP candidates stating it is not necessary to attend the debate. The attorney firings will help stifle the black vote in the next election.
This event was a whitey minstrel show minus Al Jolson.
Not even the internet darling, Ron Paul, was there.
[keep it civil] This isn't racist.
Why the hell would a Republican candidate appear for the NAACP? He won't earn any more votes. All that will happen is the dumb racist black people who believe in affirmative action (and other forms of reverse-discrimination that should be outlawed) will try to label them as racists. It's kinda like the pot calling the kettle black (pun intended).
Jay @ 113:
The NAACP has worn out its welcome. It was justified it what it did, but no longer is positive.
Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and the NAACP earn their money off of "racism" and playing the racist card. It's bullshit.
carefulwiththatAXEeugene @ 12:
That's why they do whatever the hell they want now with no pretense. The fascists always know that the corporate owned media will cover their asses.
Where's Ron Paul? Anybody seen Ron Paul? Anybody???
Of course the Paulies won't mention this embarrassment, Mike Gravel all the way!
Tantroo McNally @ 123:
Doesn't help when you're not invited.
There are 10 republican candidates, not 9.
Also, just to add. I like how C&L have yet to post Edwards and Clinton's gaffe on the microphone at the last debate where they suggested excluding other candidates. Ahh yes, let the conversation indeed begin.. (just so long as you're polling over 20% and not an establishment puppet)
The NCAAP has turned into a Marxist fringe organization like the Socialist Workers' Party of America. Julian Bond is worse than a joke, he is an obscene graffito on a s***house wall.
ALSO OF IMPORTANCE AT THIS EVENT
In the Democratic time, Clinton and Edwards got much less response than Dennis Kucinich, who got a rousing ovation when he called for the impeachment of Cheney.
Edwards whispered in Hillary's ear, "we should have a more serious and a smaller group," of candidates at the debates; to which she replied, "We've got to cut the number ... They're not serious." Fox News microphones caught the exchange on their open microphone and immediately blew up the story.
Kucinich had a powerful response saying, "Candidates, no matter how important or influential they perceive themselves to be, do not have and should not have, the power to determine who is allowed to speak to the American public and who is not."
"Imperial candidates are as repugnant to the American people and to our Democracy as an imperial President."
Kucinich's campaign indicated they are fighting back, and will "immediately take steps" to counter actions by Clinton and Edwards to "narrow" the debates.
It has also been observed that "were Hillary Clinton to issue a clarion call for the immediate impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney, she could win the presidency by acclamation."
As soon as Hillary/Obama gets in the very first thing they'll do is tell congress and the senate to leave Bush and Cheney alone. Kucinich, Paul and Gravel would have the balls to actually make Bush and Cheney pay for their crimes.
i guess they felt they didn't have anything nice to say -'nuff said.
Is no one willing to answer any of my questions in comment 100?
Seriously, instead of playing to racial and political stereotypes, why don't you guys answer my questions?
BFD! I invited all TEN candidates to my house for dinner, and NONE showed up.
This is a NON-news story.
Tancredo for president. All the rest have shown their true colors.

Bob Roberts @ 100:
Sorry, we were working and too busy to reply....they are the same, both parties. So ReTHUGs never went to a debate. Big deal. Probably has more to do with planning than anything else. As some have pointed out on here, the NAACP is a reverse racist organization anyway. Heck, Sharpton yells racism at himself when he looks in the mirror. Like unions, the NAACP had it's purpose, served it, and is now no more than a money grubbing organization. So politicians don't want to debate in front of them. I don't blame them. I wouldn't want to be associated with them either. How many votes it gonna get you?
You big bunch of hypocrites. This is just like _ALL_ the Democratic candidates refusing to show up for a debate sponsored by FOX news. The GOP candidates learned their lesson after they thought they'd attend that "fair" debate hosted by Hardballer Chris Mathews. Get a life morons...
hello @ 66:
He was in CA at Google headquarters for a 2 day rally. This was scheduled some time ago and started by the Google employees. It is not because he was a "no show".
No purpose in showing up to a liberal group. Republicans are not in the business of spending two hours telling an angry crowd how they plan on giving out more money for doing nothing. (the liberal cornerstone) The african americans who vote republican are the ones who realize that they make there own future. They don't want to fund people to sit on their asses anymore than the rest of us.
Well I guess the Reptiles didn't want to explain why their renegade president tried to have the IRS remove the NAACP's tax exempt status when they criticized the government!!!
[Deleted-Sitemonitor]
The repugs always repeat the same talking point that the dems take the black vote for granted--WTF!?!?! Seems the repugs assume the 8-9% of blacks that vote for them even if they tell them to shove their forum up their ass...in so many words.
I guess the don't want to offend their KKK/Religious Reich by being seen pandering to people of color.
uh-huh @ 135:
WHy are repugs so dumb? They try to make a point, but it only ends up at the top of their head. The reason dems didn't show at the Fixed News debate is that Fixed News is a Repug news station/mouthpiece
.
That is different than the repugs ignoring black issues and telling the black forum to "Go Cheney Yourself" by not showing up.
P.s. dumbass. Anyone with a stem cell of intelligence knows that Piss Matthews is to the right of Kate O'-feel-the-Burn!!!
Attention Dems!!!!
This photo must be used in the presidential election. You simply have this photo follow one of the dems at the forum. Superimosed it the text: And you vote republican, why?

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess of the public treasury. From that time on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the results that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage;from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back again to bondage."
