Blue America Talks To Darcy Burner
By Nicole Belle Friday Jul 13, 2007 12:29pm
Today's Blue America candidate is Darcy Burner from the suburban district just east of Seattle (WA-08). She's joining us for a live blog session at 11am PT over at Firedoglake. Darcy, who's 36 years old, was the lead product manager for Microsoft.net and both technology and music is integral parts of her life. If Alaska Senator Ted Stevens represents clueless old politics, Darcy Burner is the antidote.
Howie asked her if there were any songs that really inspire her that she wanted to recommend to Crooks and Liars. She had two. "Waiting on the World to Change" by John Mayer was her own personal campaign song in 2006. "I used to listen to it when I was trying to figure out how to inspire young people to participate in the election. This year, I'm "Pendulum Swingers" by the Indigo Girls is what I listen to in the car first thing in the morning when I'm driving to my first appointment. It reminds me why I'm campaigning for office."
While you're listening, how about visiting our Blue America ActBlue page and showing Darcy a little C&L love.

My choice would be Taking it to the Streets by the Doobie Brothers.
You, telling me the things youre gonna do for me
I aint blind and I dont like what I think I see
Takin it to the streets
Takin it to the streets
Takin it to the streets
Takin it to the streets
Typo alert.
"...both technology and music are integral parts...."
Good luck Darcy!
I don't know.

ummmm There is a Bill Oreilly ad on crooksandliars.com......heh.....money only matters I guess.
"Waiting on the World to Change"? Are you kidding me?! This song makes my head want to explode. It is a song about feeling powerless and using that as an excuse to kick back and do nothing, all the while feeling somehow noble about it. A younger friend of mine called this song the "anthem of his generation". I told him I completely agreed, but then I had to explain how sad I thought that was.
I posted the following at FDL and thought I would post it here also:
I was very disappointed in Darcy’s last campaign — I got a LOT of mail from her campaign and it was all about Reichart, almost nothing about her. And please, can we have a different photo other than the little miss sunshine one? I mean the people here were dumb enough to elect Reichert once (now twice) so they must think being a ‘tough’ ex-sheriff is a good thing for ‘fighting terrorists’. Not saying she should play that game, but at least not play into their hands by choosing a campaign photo that makes her look like a ’sweet little girl’. I truly wish she had won. It was so close I really think she could have with a slightly different approach.

I know. I don't get it either.
When I was that age we we're so hyped up about changing the world and doing it sitting around waiting for things to happen just never crossed my mind.

I don't see the BOR ad, but I remember a Glenn Beck ad kept popping up several months ago, and people kept complaining about it. I guess it's a bad search match by the ad provider.
Good luck to Darcy. I hope she gets a lot of donations
All they had to do was go out and vote and put Gore clearly and commandingly over the top in 2000 and we wouldn't be dealing with this crap.
I was disappointed when Darcy didn't get the House seat from Reichert. I wish she'd been in my district, just so I could have voted for her. Dave Reichert has toed the Republican party line all the way. Bad news for his district and the people of Washington. I hope the people who voted for him are proud of their "sheriff" and the job he's doing (or better said, NOT doing) since he is now Rudy Giuliani campaign manager for the State of Washington.
Wonder who he's putting in more hours for, Giuliani or his district? I'm pulling for you, Darcy!
She came as close as anyone could getting the seat out of Thug control. I think if she tried again, she'd get Reichert out of there. He's a tool. He's on Guilianis team because he does the same thing Rudy does: "I Solved teh Green River killingz!" And it only took nearly 50 dead women and 25 years.
Great work Dave. NOT.

Darcy wasn't in my district either but I did meet her several times and I worked the phone banks for her. She is an inspiration and a pleasure to be with.

She and I have the same taste in music, so she can't be bad. :)

I think C&L has to be paid for what they do for us however they can. Site monitor how does it work? If I click on Oreally's ad do you bill them for each time I click? I can't advertise on C&L so It's a free service for us to share our opinions about things the MSM doesn't share with us. I don't care how you keep the operation going, please just keep it going.
Sweet Jesus do the Dems need some better music. Why are the all the shitty musicians Dems?
Shouldn't 'Darci' be wearing a Stars-N-Stripes blouse, as well? Couldn't the handlers find some Old Glory ear bangles? Which Dem will be the first to wear lip coloring in patriotic colors, like red/white stripes with silver star studs?
I don't think the promo pic gets the fact that she's a murkin, running in a murrikin election, across strongly enough. At least put the bell of a shiny brass sousaphone in the background, with John Phillips Souza's portrait hanging in the bore.
Note to Rahm: I liked your idea (run only former American Idol contestants, in '08) much better.
I live in this district and I volunteered on Darcy's campaign. She did amazingly well considering that Dave Reichert is wildly popular locally and that this is a very conservative district. Darcy needs to make more local appearances and get involved locally. If she stepped up and spoke out against the Maple Valley Donut Hole issue, (a volatile local issue which is too involved to explain here) she would carry the district.
Darcy ran in the district where I live. It's been strongly Republican in the past but this is changing. IMHO if she's got the drive and keeps going at it eventually she'll win.
The current Repub in charge is former sheriff Dave Richert who's surfing on the single tangible achievement of his career, the arrest of the Green River serial killer. Why Reichert is so popular escapes me. Like most western WA law enforcement he's not exactly the brightest of bulbs. It took him 20 years to catch the Green River killer and it's not like the guy was a Hannibal Lecter type genius. With the district's demographics evolving (more educated, going from mostly rural to suburban) I have no doubt the dems can capture it.
