Mike's Blog Round Up
Can Congress stop the madness? Well, at least Harry Reid is beginning to realize the only thing the GOP fears ... is its own tactics.
While Rudy's a vain Know-it-all, Obama might be better off knowing less.
A surprising U.S. "Shortfall."
The "evolution" of Bush, and has he merely exchanged the bottle, for a can?
Is it just me, but after watching the Jim Webb-Lindsay Graham tussle on Meet The Press, I'm convinced the South Carolina Senator is an exact vocal "Sound-alike" of Arlo Guthrie: "You can get, an argument that wants, at Lindsay Graham's restaurant."

Congress won't stop the madness, because it's part of the madness.
Congrats, baby jesus!
The evolution of bush is outstanding!
Obama's Camp Cultivates Crop in Small Donors By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK, MIKE McINTIRE and JEFF ZELENY
Senator Barack Obama's campaign has employed novel tactics, like counting sales of $4.50 key chains as contributions, to pump up numbers and cultivate support.
Does anyone besides me thuink thuis might be a 'plantation' reference?
Lindsay Graham sounds much more like Gomer Pyle.
...
harry reid is STILL a coward!
why is LIEberman still a DINO when he does everything w(R)ong?
Whoa, bascombe, that might be a stretch.
Over at Kos I was just reading about a republican poll that included the choice of "none of the above". None of the above beat out all their candidates. How's that for a chuckle of the day.

Terror threat against U.S. said serious
AP - 10 minutes ago
Have to keep that Habeas Restoration amendment from passing at all costs!
First and doremost, the Dems must stop offering figleafs to the Repubs.
Gonzo is refusing to let Voting Section Chief Tanner testify before Conyers House Judiciary Committee for a hearing on voting rights. What does Conyers do? He writes a nice letter (along with Nadler) to Alberto expressing their desire to work with Gonzo to secure Tanner's testimony.
"Work with..."
That concept does not exist in the rightwing brain. It's a dna thing. Handed down genetically over hundreds of years.
Boing!
House Republican leader Rep. John Boehner of Ohio said the report confirms gains made by Bush and blamed Democrats for being too soft on terrorism.
"Retreat is not a new way forward when the safety and security of future generations of Americans are at stake," he said in a statement.
I keep saying and saying. . . .Home base for the Cons is Terror.
As we speak, Fran Townsend of the Homeland Security Dept. is on CNN. They are showing every Al Qeada clip from day one with her warnibg that they are determined to strike in the U.S. EXTREME RIGHT WING MAIN STREAM MEDIA (ERWMSM) will covering this today. Forget about anything else going on in the world today.
Isn't that just what we need, a more intelligent electorate? Or should the country continue to cater to the Nascar mentality? (I'm referring to the Quinnipiac poll quoted above which says Obama voters are too educated.)
pissed off patricia @ 7:
OK, so I re-viewed "Confederate States of America" last night. Everyone should see the striking similarity between the current US and how it might have been if the South had won the (un)Civil War.
The 'commercials' are stunning and you should see the ending. It will blow you away. It's amazing how the movie captured the racism, sexism and xenophobia and applied it to historic events.
Sometimes the british are smart.
L.A. Confidential @ 11:
What? NO ANTHRAX DISCOVERIES?
On last night's edition of nightline, they did a report on a day in the life of Apache Troop in Bagdad. They are living an around the clock nightmare in a hell hole. They challenge Bush or any of the Congress, such as Lindsay Graham, to go on patrols with them. Watch the video of clip, and see what they have to endure on a daily basis. Watch as they mistakenly kill a cabdriver. They do not speak the language and can not differentiate between friend and foe.
Watch the video and notice how much their desperation matches that of the people who were stranded in New Orleans. Rescue those strand young American Troops by stopping the funding now. That is the only way to stop Bush from destroying them.
Go to this link to the Nightline Report, and play the video on the top right hand corner of the page.
Distribute the video to as many people as you can. It reveals that the Troops are in desperate shape, and must be rescued now.

Ron @ 15:
These reports are for the cowards in Congress and the Senate. The common folk have already said that they(we) are sick and tired of the 'teerrraaaahhhh' crap.
With the double-edged sword of the appropriations bill AND the Habeus Corpus, the repugs backs are against the wall and they are using the media (again, which people ARE tired of) to try to 'catapault the propaganda'.
Now would be a great time to have a spine show up on the Dems' X-ray charts.
BaScOmBe @ 20:
I could almost agree 100% but I don't think you should blame the democrats for the actions of this administration and the (ERWMSM.)
seamus @ 19:
This should be shown to graham
I was hoping there are no penalties for the soldiers speaking out. But I guess it's too late for that wish. Their tour was extended from May to September, when the boosh KKKlan want to extend "the Surge".
Ron @ 21:
When did I blame the Democrats? Where did you get THAT from? I'm certainly would not be blaming the Dems that show spine. Those who don't show spine are enablers, period.
This is NOT just about the 'will of the people'. It's about the proper treatment of the armed forces.
This is a war/occupation based on lies and the lies are piling up along with the bodies. It needs to be shut down!
Ron @ 15:
Wasn't CNN referred to as the Clinton News Network during the 90's?
Now CNN = CONservative News Network.
BaScOmBe @ 23:
What I mean is where the Democrats try to pass any bill the republicans block it and the (ERWMSM) blames it on the democratic congress. It isn't a matter of spine. It's what gets reported. No offense meant.
Dr. Acula @ 25:
Ah there you go that makes sense. Kind of like a Shape Shifting Outfit. "Follow the politics".
Maybe it's just that CNN wants to increase its viewership, so it's willing to sacrifice the truth by pretending along with the Republican politicians that there is a real terrorist threat, or that 9/11 was done by terrorists rather than in-house by the GOP merely trying to scare Americans.
How 'bout we give our troops the month of August off? After all, if our Congress and the "Iraq Puppet Theater Congress" can, why not the "grunts"???
BaScOmBe @ 9:
Hey... if we're going to vote for dead com medians... Pat Paulsen is the way to go! :D
Re: "stop the madness"
I agree. If you've ever had any dealing with clinically defined sociopaths it becomes claer that the only thing they respect and respond to is fear and unshakable determination. At the core of every last sociopath resides an abject coward. they will never risk themselves, to any degree. The GOP is run by sociopaths. Time to approach them with the same approach as would a clinical or corrections professional: you don't take any shit off of them, and you never fail to visit upon them the same as what they dish out, you just return it with hefty interest.
There is no rehabilitating a sociopath; it has never happened. Not once. Their is no reasoning or accomodation - they only view such things as foolish weaknesses to be exploited. The only limits that sociopaths ever recognize are those which are firmly imposed upon them by external forces. The GOP is now run by the maladjusted, sociopathic crminal element. The only way of effectively dealing with them is recognizing that you aren't dealing with "normal" people. If you try and deal with them from that perspective, they are going to eat your lunch every time. It's tuff luv time.
Ron @ 26:
Fair enough. We share the same feeling about the MSM. They are contemptible and traitorous and I agree that THEY will certainly blame anything and everything on the Dems. They have a proven track record.
All that notwithstanding, the Dems still need to show a spine and keep it showing.

Nicole, What a rotten thing to say about Arlo Guthrie (my son's namesake);)
Let me just say this - if you are a member of the GOP "mental lubricant" isn't the only lubricant you may need to get to the bottom of things.
Interesting piece by the Agonist. Mad Kane is right on. We have a president who never learned basic character, and the world is paying for it.
As for Arlo - Arlo has a pretty nasal speaking voice and doesn't have Graham's accent, just as Graham doesn't have Arlo's talent, insight or honesty. ;)

Wasn't CNN referred to as the Clinton News Network during the 90's?
Yeah, for its focus on Watergate, travelgate, Fostergate and Lewinski. None of which should have amounted to anything.
'Course its now called the Communist News Network by the extreme right (many of whom get their information directly from Rush and Anne).
GOP To Filibuster Legislation To End War
Re: Webb-Graham
Graham doesn't sound to my ears like Arlo Guthrie, he sounds more like Liberaci. Or Richard simmons.
"Can Congress stop the madness? Well, at least Harry Reid is beginning to realize the only thing the GOP fears … is its own tactics." == Nicole
H'yeah, because who could have EVER noticed at the beginning of the year that the supplemental couldn't be stopped (though worth a try), and the big fight would come right before the August break with the annual military appropriations bill?
Certainly not a Majority Leader or a Speaker like those two mutts we have, right?
• Naw, it's ONLY because netroots bombarded them with messages from beyond the Beltway that they were able to realize that the August recess is a powerful political tool . Who knew?
SO glad that netroots can see the road ahead, while the myopic Leader and Speaker are so busy checking out their poll numbers in the AP/Ipsos push-polls that netroots buy into like they is NO WAY the AP could lie to them. After all, the fake AP poll says that you are powerful because the Congress is weak.
Who can ignore a message like that? Btw, AP/Ipsos' new push-poll reminds us that Leader Reid ought to wear a 'power tie,' because America doesn't like him to argue with the President because he feels so insecure in that red piece-of-shit he ties. Netroots to the rescue!

Not all propaganda occurs on one side of an ideological battle. BOTH sides try to use it to their advantage.
