"Congress has another route to enforce its will, an inherent power of contempt. But that has not been used since early in the 20th century. It has long been deemed unwieldy in the modern era as it entails Congress stopping all work to hold its own trial and imprisoning any offenders in the basement of the Capitol." Go for it, you could put them in a cage and sell peanuts, like at the zoo. 7/22

Unless the Democrats Realize That They are Dealing with a Sociopath (Bush) and Dr. Evil (Cheney), They Will Continue to be the Subject of Absurd, Deceitful Bushevik Attacks: "Bush, ratcheting up a fight with Congress over Iraq, accused Democrats on Friday of conducting a political debate on the war while delaying action on money to upgrade equipment and give troops a pay raise." Remember that Bush Has Underequipped, Undertrained and Sent Our Troops Off to Die, While His Corporate Supporters Have Profiteered Billions of Our Tax Dollars.
"I have high hopes for my man Russ on Meet The Press"
Hope you can have a clip of this put up. Does anyone think Feingold will reconsider his decision not to run?
A second former executive of a global logistics company has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to receiving kickbacks on Iraq war contracts and lying to federal investigators. 7/22 [buzzflash]
[note: #2 was also from buzzflash]
I'd like for Feingold to do something other than talk.
After Feingold announced that he would never support impeaching Bush on DailyKos, I have no hopes for him at all. This from the only Democratic senator to vote with the repugs to proceed with the impeachment of Clinton; even Holy Joe didn't go that far. Feingold also said he almost voted to convict Clinton for consensual sex and only decided at the last moment not to. I have never understood why the man has so many sycophantic admirers. He talks a great game on many issues but his judgment has been suspect since the Clinton era.
BaScOmBe S, I agree completely with your #2 comment, though since most of us probably do, it's preaching to the proverbial frustrated-to-the-point-of-banging-our-heads-against the-wall choir. How can we come up with a strategy to bumper-stickerize our message, get it out, and make *other* people understand that as well?
I didn't know about the 'no impeachment stance'. my guess is that he's in the harry reid camp of toothless collegial speechifying. or the chuck schumer cam of 'miked-up' politicizing.
and they wonder how they have a lower rating than bush?
Xeno says: I have never understood why the man has so many sycophantic admirers.
Perhaps because Feingold possesses a few intelligent grey cells, is head and shoulders above anyone else (exception - Gore), and would be an enormous improvement from the bunch of criminals you now have in office.
XNEO. I'm curious about Feingolds actions about Clinton. Bill didn't use taxpayer money for his consensual indescrestion with Monica. I wonder where Vitters got the money for his "prostitutes". You can bet it didn't come from his personal account.
Ah, I can already see what the WH spin will be today: "The NIE isn't all bad news. It's only bad if you read it YOUR way."
What the hell does (D-Edwards) mean after Bonior?
"Former Federal Prosecutor: 'Bush Admin Asking to Be Impeached'; Conyers: 'Let's Take These Two Guys Out'"
http://www.bradblog.com/?p=4852
Brooks and Hayes on the same panel? Good lord
Townsend on FNS: We now allow lighters on planes again because, "We do not believe they could be used as part of a large explosives device."
So apparently, Richard Reed's shoe bomb wasn't that big a deal.
These Sunday talk shows have become nothing but censored corporate crap.
A truly informative show would consist of Alex Baldwin interviewing rove while on a lie detector, bush after being injected with truth serum, and cheney as he is being waterboarded.
Whew...youhad me worried for a minute. David Bonior, one of the most honorable men in politics is Edward's campaign chair. It is in part that David thinks enough of Edward's to run his campagn that I consider John Edwards my top choice so far.
Russ @ 12--Bonior is Edward's campagn manager
Why do we keep referring to the US as the 'Homeland'?
It would be more apt to refer to it as the 'Fatherland', with Bush as the figurehead, impotent Sire, and Cheney and the Neocon Zioinsts as the Rapists/Defective sperm donors, giving birth to the Fourth Reich.
We'd better abort this monster, even if it must be post-partum.
IMPEACH, IMPEACH, IMPEACH
Everything on this thread is BS, and means nothing, BECAUSE THE DEMOCRAT CONGRESS WILL NOT SIMPLY DEFUND THE WAR IN IRAQ, WHICH THEY CAN DO AND THERE IS NOTHING TO VETO BY THE PRESIDENT!!!
So, beyond that, all this is bla bla bla.
The project to "push back" the "September deadline" that they've been arguing would "prove" whether or not the Surge was working, to next year, has begun.
have you seen this site?

Next time you are debating one of the "fight em over there or fight em over here" crowd, ask the following questions. How big is al-queada air force? How big is their navy? How many armored divisions do they have? All you will get back is a blank stare or a quick change of subject.
I am not a idiot who doesn't understand asymmetric warfare in the nuclear age.
They can sting us,they can sting us very badly as shown on 9/11,but they are totally incapable of invading this country. Desire and capability are two very different things.
After surviving real invasion threats from Germany and the Soviet Union,to poop our pants over Islamo-facism is ridiculous. Never more true is "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
Burt @ 20:
I'm afraid its not that easy.
Ohh, my damned luck! David Brooks?!? What a schlub! I see him enough on The News Hour.
Your Man Russ?
This guy Russert has been carrying water for the Republican Corporatocracy for years.
You need to find another man.
And, ditto for Feingold. Until his anti-impeachment stand, I was behind him. He's revealed himself to me as another empty suit.

Whats catching my eye this morning?
The sun is up, the sky is blue. There's things to DO. And I'm not going to waste away today watching these dumb shows.
"Grin"
Love to see one of these head's say to Homeland Sec. Adv. Frances Townsend.
"Our food is going to kill us off before the Terrorists do Fran. And the FDA doesn't even give a sh*t. Do you?"
Love to see her expression on that one. Make for a great snap.
DNI Mike McConnell just included "physical pain" in the definition of "torture".
Huh.
Baby, in case you didn't know it's TILLMAN time. The question is why is the president holding back information on his untimley death.BTW the president isn't worthy to pick up Mr. Tillman's jock strap off of the locker room floor.Let's air it out baby.
tjb @ 30:
Because he can. And because they don't look back when they do. They also understand the average person can barely stay focused on one thing for a few seconds (zero attention span) before becoming distracted by another. And they completely use that to their advantage.
Feingold to reintroduce a censure resolution against Bush "In a few days".
Thankyou for the news site #22. some1
Censure?
WTF? This is bullshit. Fuck you Feingold.
IMPEACHMENT NOW!!!!!
Another moment for Brit Hume-rless to sneer and condescend to Juan Williams, yet again. "...perhaps you should read the news reports more carefully...", he acidly sneered to Juan Williams. It was at the end of Fox News Sunday and it just leaves one wanting to shove his basset-hound-like face into a pile of s*** that he just put there with his words. What a waste.
Da Spyda @ 34:
Hallelujah! I'm with YOU brother.
I hope that when Feingold spoke of trying to 'censor' Bush, he meant 'censer', in which case we could hang Bush upside down on chains, jam a bunch of incense sticks in his ass, and set them afire.
Damn! David Brooks has lost his marbles!
He talks about staying in Iraq for 5 more years, losing 125 American soldiers killed per month to "save" 10,000 Iraqis being killed per month if we left?
To his credit, Bob Woodward told Brooks to his stupid face that he merely grabbed the 10,000 figure out of thin air. Brooks vainly attempted to argue, but then was forced to admit the figure was merely a figment of his lurid imagination.
Woodward also pointed out that it was ludicrous to even talk about staying in Iraq for 5 years because the people won't stand for it and after January 2009 the new Democratic president and congress would initiate the withdrawal. So, it really is ridiculous to refuse to plan for a redeployment now. The Repug alternative of "winning in Iraq" doesn't exist.
BaScOmBe @ 2:
Unless the sociopaths understand that they are dealing with sociopaths . . . It is up to us to light a big fire under our representatives collective tails.
Citizens to their phones and to the streets!
how do you people watch this shit? did you commit a crime and instead of jail, this is your punishment?
Da Spyda @ 34:
Ditto
redcat @ 41:
good news is that very few people do . . . . I believe their audience is 70 + . . . but they do provide a constant source of clips for this site.
"Your man Russ" gave us worse than nothing this morning. A censure motion? Might just as well send George Bush an embroidered pillow with the words "You're a Big Meanie" on it.
Remember your U.S. Governement classes, folks. Otherwise you look just like the knuckledraggers and idiots on the right. The Senate does NOT introduce articles of impeachment against the President and Vice President. That must come from the House of Representatives. The only thing the Senate can initiate on its own is a censure. While a censure may not look like much, I'm baffled why Senator Fiengold is the only one who has even pushed for that tactic. One Senator displaying enough backbone to do this little thing beats 99 others who are either toadies to GWB or lack the basic courage to make even this step. Why does "perfect" always have to be the enemy of "good" with some of you folks. You just wind up doing the neo-cons work for them when we start tearing down our own for petty reasons like this.
Send a letter to your House Representative, and two to Speaker Pelosi (she's the big roadblock) to demand impeachment.
What caught my eye was Campbell Brown, looking like an over-ripe, pregnant peach, announcing she is leaving NBC. (Presumably for CNN.) Mixed feelings, as she was an appealing bit of eye-candy, then you remember she married Dan Senor, Repug water-carrier who donated to Macaca's campaign. That and her interview with Cookeville Police officer Eric Hall, where she gave him the "oh you poor dear' treatment after he shot the Smoak family's dog.
Could hardly believe the Bob Schieffer (sp?) interview with Harry Reid on Face the Nation
in which he apparently says if the Dems touch the Iraq occupation in any way at any time, they take blame, they own it, don't they? Bush and the Republicans (including Bob Scheiffer) apparently think if they can just put this off until after the elections, they can go pour water in a bowl and wash their hands of the whole thing, blame it on the other party. Good luck; I don't think that worked for Pilate, did it? I was so angry to see him so unabashedly, try to foist this catrophe off on the Democrats; now if we only elect Hillary, they have another Clinton to blame for the next decade. What kind of evil brains do they all have?! I cannot believe I ever voted Republican, even for awhile. I don't always see eye to eye with the Democrats either, which is why I turned Independent, but the Democrats are so much better there is no comparison. How can we get a third party going that is not for these horrible trade agreements and might offer a legitimate choice of some kind?

Oh boohoo, does crybaby Cheney want cheese with that whine? Is it upsetting to crybaby Cheney that people still joke about the time crybaby Cheney got drunk on one of his phoney hunts, shot a man in the face (instead of a small, tame bird that cannot fly), fled the scene, got special treatment from the police (who somehow overlooked the fact that crybaby Cheney drank alcohol on a hunting trip, which is a crime), and then forced the guy he shot in the face to apologize on national tv?
I am wondering: how much does it upset crybaby Cheney that Jay Leno still jokes about Clinton and Monica Lewinski, something that was revealed NINE YEARS ago?
WAIT!!!!!!!!!!
...they had some Democrats on????????????????
Whats catching my eye this morning?
The sun is up, the sky is blue. And the British Open is in its final hours. I'm not going to waste away today watching these dumb shows when I can be drooling over Padraig Harrington and Sergio Garcia What lovely hunks and the scenery at Carnoustie is gorgeous!
