Countdown: Gonzo's Rough Justice

Keith documents what has to be the most inept testimony before a Senate Committee yet. This guy graduated from Harvard Law School? How embarrassing for their alumni. Gonzo couldn't defend a parking ticket...before you'd realize it, he'd cop to vehicular manslaughter in trying to rationalize his double parking.

i wonder if gonzo is paper trainned for the house. pun intended

Frist?

Admittedly, these are a little dated...

The Top 10 Reasons Gonzales Must Go:
1. Lying Under Oath
2. Purging Prosecutors
3. Misusing the Patriot Act's National Security Letters
4. Authorizing Illegal NSA Domestic Surveillance
5. Enabling John Yoo and Unchecked Presidential War Powers
6. Rendering the Geneva Conventions "Quaint"
7. Supporting Military Commissions and the End of Habeas Corpus
8. Blessing Unprecedented Expansion of Presidential Signing Statements
9. Facilitating a CIA Leak Cover-Up
10. Gutting Minority Voting Rights

Since that piece was written, Gonzales lied to Congress. Again.

ahhh yes....what a laurel and hardy performance that was....

who's on first?

I guess it's hard to talk with all that Bushco cock stuffed in your mouth.

And of course his brain is saturated and his skull is clogged.

Being forced to watch Gonzo testify is a certifiable form of torture.

The FBI is taking cues from the CIA to recruit thousands of covert informants in the United States as part of a sprawling effort to boost its intelligence capabilities.

According to a recent unclassified report to Congress, the FBI expects its informants to provide secrets about possible terrorists and foreign spies, although some may also be expected to aid with criminal investigations, in the tradition of law enforcement confidential informants. The FBI did not respond to requests for comment on this story.

Just the sort of thing you would want Alberto Gonzales ultimately in charge of.

That's the way he likes it.

rasta @ 4:

That's Abbott and Costello.

It's always nice to see our Attorney General throw up all over himself. Heck of a job Gonzo!

A great deal of time has been devoted to the discussion of Gonzales. Perhaps more time should be spent on the real issues. For instance the members of the United States government agreed to fund and support the Millennium Development goals that will help bring an end to global poverty. However while the white house spends $300 billion a year in Iraq, $19 billion is missing from the funding to end starvation and malnutrition worldwide. Groups such as the Borgen Project are working to bring government attention to see that the U.S. government holds up their end of the agreement. If Gonzales is being questioned for not meeting expectations should the same not be done for the other members of the United States government?

I must say, that was quite entertaining to watch!

It will be even more entertaining to watch him being charged with perjury. I hope that day comes soon.

(Hey, I gotta get *some* pleasure out of all this corruption and bullshit!)

To bad he didn't drown crossing the Rio Grand.

The guy is dumber than dirt. What the hell kind of lawyer is he if he can't remember shit, can't tell a story the same way twice, and can't even tell a convincing lie?

I bet it's a lot easier dealing with bush than with congress. With bush all you have to say is, whatever you want sir, I'll make it legal.

Well guys, I personally suggest that you watch this testimony if you get the chance. This is why: Gonzo's blatant disregard for our Constitution was bad enough. However, when he would defend his obviously illegal activities publicly, he always had this irritating smirk on his face that revealed how much contempt he had for the rule of law. However, during this testimony in front of the Judiciary Committee there was no trace of that little smirk. Instead, the weeks of true oversight that this man has exerienced have left him looking like a frazzled, broken man who knows he has lost the confidence of the nation and the Congress. I sincerely hope that little facist has trouble sleeping at night!

This guy graduated from Harvard Law School? How embarrassing for their alumni.

Whoever posted this should go on crooksandliars more often...his harvard graduating class has actually written up a petition asking bush to fire gonzales.

when you own school wants to fired from the top law enforcement position in the country, either the school you went to is petty and bitter, or you're godawful and the school will to anything to distance itself from you to protect its reputation.

so...harvard...petty and bitter or very interested in protecting their reputation? oh, lets do what dubya would do and let history judge...after we're all dead.

Oh and by the way, there is a paper from MIT, not designed for the general public, that tells in detail how a standard television set can be used to eavesdrop on conversations. A tip to those who say bad things in front of the TV: This snooping will only work if your TV is connected to a cable system. To ensure complete privacy, simply unplug the cable connection. It won’t work to unplug the set because it will still snitch. Unplug the cable and everything is blessed silence. The house apes that regularly go into the local cable heads will wonder why they can hear nothing.

OOOoooooooh you mean THAT intelligence dispute!!!

Lets just get on with it... charge the bastard with perjury and impeach him already!

Man, if I were in his shoes and heard people talking about me to my face and elsewhere like that, I could never show my face in public again. It would truly kill me.

Yep, it's all very funny till you realize he's going to get away it. Then who'll be laughing?

Harvard graduated this guy? Fuck that. I’m sending my kid to Yale. Oh, they graduated Bush? Berkley here I come.

Ok I get it now......Gonzales is the drug dealer agents Ramos and Compian shot in the ass....right?

Thats what all this crap is about.

Great. So we get a perjury conviction followed with another commutation. Greeeeeeeat.

Can you say legacy, Chimpy?

Just goes to show you that going to a big fancy school doesn't mean shit if you don't know how to apply what you learned. Either that or hanging around with bush for so many years actually reduces your mental capabilities.

I have no knowledge that I have engaged in any untoward conduct that I may or may not be aware of.

Any wrongdoing on my part was done with the express consent of the gang of eight, but I assure you, that in doing so, I engaged in no wrongdoing.

No matter what I did, whether I have a recollection of doing it or not, or whether I was even aware at the time that I was doing, was done in regards to the highest ethical standards and to improve the image of the institutions that I may or may not be a member of.

Thank you for taking this time to hear me out.

May I tell you a little story that may help you understand what I may or may not be saying?

LOL

LOL

At one point, he said with apparent relish, "inappropriate relationships".

Elaborate, Gonzales.

I keep saying , let Al Neri take Fredo fishing. It worked for the Corleone Family, why not for the rest of us?

Gonzo's not qualified to teach law in a community college let alone by USAG. What a contemptible dumb ass!

It's so easy for Bush Co to destroy your life.

Your name goes on a list accessible by just about anyone. You can't get credit, a job, a place to live. Can't fly, leave the country, start a business, get a license, get medical care, etc.

Thats why all this secrecy needs to be severely challenged.

You know they'll end up hiring drunks and criminals for no pay also looking for a nice new Brown T-Shirt.

Can't you imagine the seen after when these fascists meet? I think it is like the interviews after a debate where the truly delusional are patting him on the back saying "you hit it out of the park buddy"!! My god does anyone think this is our brightest and our best?

before you’d realize it, he’d cop to vehicular manslaughter in trying to rationalize his double parking.

That's an idea! Let's get this dipstick a parking ticket, allow him to hang himself with manslaughter and get him off the street.

Of course all you're going to get is people turning in people that they don't like...talk about making the haystack bigger.

I think that one was Chiara. Except that it's not the reason. I mean...Let me tellya a story...

But how is it funny when they're still asking the questions, sending the subpoenas, dancing the dance, while they know good and well that nothing is going to get through the Senate as long as the Repub fascists stand together and threaten filibuster. Not only that, but anybody who's accused via any kind of judicial system will eventually end up being let go, either via the Supremely Right Court or a Bush pardon.

The system's rigged against us, gang. What are we gonna do about it?

“I don’t know the answer to your question. I can get back to you on that.”
Did you see him blathering and stuttering and almost crying in at 5:30 into the thing? And then the following 25 seconds? OH MY GOD!!!! Harvard? For real?

This is getting ridiculous!!!! Absolutely ridiculous!!!! The Attorney General of the United States is lying everytime he opens his mouth. He is acting like a criminal and making those who support him (ie Bush and Cheney) look like criminals.

Two of the Presidents top aides are guilty of contempt of congress, again making the entire Executive Branch look like crooks and thugs, and yet congress and the senate are doing NOTHING about this!!!!

Do we have a three branch system of government or not???? Have Cheney and Bush successfully overthrown our system of government so that it is no longer recognizable????? Are the congress and the Senate just going to roll over and give up all of their authority, because the republicans want to be seen as henchmen to this criminal administration????

Quite frankly, I am not worried about the Iraqi government taking August off. I am worried about the US government leaving for August. We are in the midst of a tremendous Constitutional crisis. The administration is trying to overthrow our system of government. Perhaps this is just a little more important than an August vacation!!!!

Gonzo couldn’t defend a parking ticket…

True. But don't I remember a story about him somehow getting Dubya out of Jury Duty when he was Governor (or running for Governor or something)? I think it had to do with the argument that it would make Dubya's DUI record public or some such deal. And it worked if I recall correctly.

He should resign before he is locked up. And I don’t mean for criminal acts. He's looney tunes.

I know! We'll have Hariet defend Gonzo at the impeachment trial.

That'll keep'em laugh'n till feb 09'.

You're safe George. Can I ride around on Air Force One for awhile now?

They must have put their heads together and went to Hariet Meyers.

I don't recall what I just said so how can you accuse me of deceit?

Who's this Ashcroft fellow? I don't recall him.

Even MORE damaging to Gonzo was his allegations that he visited Ashcroft on "another
matter" and indicating that the "Gang of Eight" knew of such. HOWEVER, several members
of the "Gang of Eight" have already given testimony that purpose of Gonzo and others
visting Ashcroft was in fact to get him to sign off on the secret wire-tapping procedure.
Wish KO would have played that part of video when Gonzo was confronted with fact
that some of the Gang of Eight testified just the opposite to his(Gonzo's) comments.
He lied, lied, lied and continues to LIE. He is the worst of all individuals on the bush
team...opps., sorry I have to say he is "third" since Rove and Cheney are worse..

He's told so many lies, he can't even begin to keep track of them. Im,peach his as for perjury, then prosecute him for same.

And all this will be put off until Congress comes back from vacation in September.

How much do you want to bet that something will happen between now and then to save Gonzos arse!

Well well…. Ah…ah..we ah ..let me…ah.. I’ll get back to you … that was before we didn’t do what we thought we were going to after I ahh… ah.. can.. can…. Ah ah…… Sir ah.. Cangressma…. Senator I can get back to you…. Ah who is this Ashcroft….. stop making fun of me.

Well, we all know that Gonzales would never "help out a buddy." That would be just so wrong.

He's had months to answer as to his involvement in the firings and knowledge of others' involvement in the firings, yet he still can't (won't) answer the $64,000 question. Good gawd.

Ariba Ariba Ariba YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAA!

Being put under oath to testify before congress is a bit redundant. It is a high crime to lie to Congress… oath or no oath. The “under oath” thing is a red herring. It sounds good and all but it really makes NO difference.

I can't take anymore Gonzales. I'd rather lance a boil under my nuts. So, thats what I'm going to do.

Neither being under oath or in front of congress makes any difference to this gang. Hell, lies are a dime a dozen with them. Gonzo knows that if libby got his sentence commuted, he sure as hell will, so he does an Alfred E. Newman and says, what, me worry?

I'm so sick of hearing how corrupt these people are. Well, duh. Impeachment is the only solution.

See my #56.....the reason I pose the question as to whether Gonzo was placed under
oath and supposedly will give truthful answers is precisely why bush is excersing his
executive privilege with respects to Harriett Miers and John Bolton. He does not want
them to give sworn testimony under oath, because when caught in a lie, perjury charges
can be filed. Instead, the W/H and his asswipe lawyers(Fielding) are wanting to have
Miers/Bolton answer questions in an informal setting, not under oath, and even if/when
lieing, "nothing" can be done...or at least that is my layman's understanding...Correct
me if I'm wrong...

I wouldnt trust him to sit the right way on the tiolet......COMEPLETE FUCKING IDIOT!!!

I really liked the part where Ashcroft under sedation and gonzo said he could take back his powers. Ashcroft couldnt remember becomming a General/

Gonzo: "I... I... I don't recall taking a dump or what even a toilet is. May I poop my pants?"

Specter: "Are you wearing adult diapers?"

Gonzo: "I don't recall, but I'll take my chances."

Specter: "Ew..."

He lies and studders worse than Daffy Duck.

I suspect that if the Whitehouse let them just testify not under oath the Congress would go along with it. What Congress won’t do is let them testify behind closed doors with no transcript not under oath with her fingers crossed behind her/his back. The “under oath” thing does not matter. You cannot lie to Congress. It’s a huge crime. Oath or no oath. It’s the other conditions that the Whitehouse are putting on the testimony that is the deal killer. Who would let them testify under all those conditions?
If anybody is caught lying to Congress they could easily go to jail. Bush would pardon them though.

John, it's off topic, but you have to read this! Just in time for Congress summer vacation!

Republican fundraiser to feature machine guns

BOSTON (Reuters) - A planned Republican fundraiser in New Hampshire aims to promote gun ownership in America by letting supporters fire powerful military-style weapons -- from Uzi submachine guns to M-16 rifles.

The Manchester Republican Committee is inviting party members and their families to a "Machine Gun Shoot" where, for $25, supporters can spend a day trying out automatic weapons, said organizer Jerry Thibodeau.

"It's a fun day. It's a family day," said Thibodeau of the August 5 event. "It's quite exciting."

Funny story about my experience with a Harvard student. (could've easily been a student of Law) I locked my bike to a bike post in front of the Science Center once, and when I came back, a Harvard student had locked her bike to the post....through...mine, instead of the opposite side of the post.
She came back three hours later. Had a class to attend, donchaknow.

This articleabout four paragraphs down it says:
Of course, lying to Congress, oath or no oath, is still a punishable offense, one that can carry a $5,000 fine and up to five years in prison.
And then I the next paragraph: For those witnesses who are unaware of the federal statutes banning lying to Congress…

So, a fine and prision term "can be" imposed if an individual lies(under oath or not)
to the U.S. Congress, however, one has to wonder IF the penalities are ever truly
imposed/enforced. For instance; in the case where the Commerece Dept. lied to
Congress about the administration's dealing w/Iraq prior to the Gulf War, one has to
wonder if a fine/prision term was imposed...and in the instance where the Navy lied
about how the 47 Sailor were killed in an explosion aboard the USS Iowa, was a fine/
prision sentance imposed? Retorical question, for I'm sure you don't know, however
both cases were igreious and should have been prosecuted.
Again, appreciate the info you supplied, and tho it seems to set bench marks for
testifying before Congress(whether under oath or not), it does not give me much
comfort as to what if anything "this Congress" will do regarding Gonzo, Miers, Bolton,,
et.al.

gongzales = liar
gongzales = criminal
gongzales =decietful
gongzales = corrupt
gongzales = stupid
gongzales = lackey

Gonzo was ask "what were the type of behavior that would get you removed from office", and he responded with "Inappropriate relationship with others and doing favors for others inappropriately within the office."

He was then ask if any of those were fired for doing these reason and he said "no"

My take on that was they were fired for not doing favors and not having an affair with someone. If you look at what seems to pass for having Bush approval, and all the people that were involve in the issue that Gonzo took at hand for firing his attorney.

Just how many inappropriate behaviors and non-bid contract favors from the earth to the moon has this administration been involve with?

Nixon must be smiling from heaven right now, knowing his legacy will never be looked at again, after this criminal Bushco administration mess we have

All I can say after watching the hearing yesterday is that I hope Gonzo has socked enough money away for his retirement 'cause I don't see him getting a job in any firm after the crap he has pulled.

This discussion about whether perjury to Congress is a criminal offense whether under oath or not is all well and good, but Gonzo was in fact under oath! I don't have a link to the entire transcript handy but you can see him taking oath yourself in the first few seconds of video of the hearing!

too bad... sort of wanted to hear Dana Milbank...

off to Youtube I guess...

Captain Kangaroo @ 24:

Harvard graduated this guy? Fuck that. I’m sending my kid to Yale. Oh, they graduated Bush? Berkley here I come.

Berkley has John Yoo.

Anytime a public official appears before Congress, they are under oath. It does not matter whether they stand up and place their hand on the Bible or not.

Paul @ 54:

He's told so many lies, he can't even begin to keep track of them. Im,peach his as for perjury, then prosecute him for same.

Was Gonzo even put under oath????? Cannot prosecute for perjury if not sworn..

Yes he was. I watched the hearing. Or I heard the watching. Whatever. He was sworn in.

I think he's going schizophrenic before our very eyes.

Not only is the guy a mealy-mouthed double talker. He's an idiot too.
Another Bush admin sychophant.

Gonzales got into Harvard on some discriminatory AFFIRMATIVE ACTION program, which clearly promotes unqualified people... The liberals are equally guilty in advancing his career.

ahhhh, the good old days, when John Ashcroft was AG.......

on some affirmative action program? You don't sound specific so I suppose you don't have any idea what program he was on. I'm a liberal and I don't recall advancing him to Harvard.
I suppose the Constitution is a liberal idea, by your standard of what is liberal and what is conservative.

Ba-ba-bamp-ba ba-ba-ba-bamp-ba I wanna be sedated
Ba-ba-bamp-ba ba-ba-ba-bamp-ba I wanna be sedated

really do need a laugh track for these hearings

Angry One @ 3:

Admittedly, these are a little dated...

The Top 10 Reasons Gonzales Must Go:
1. Lying Under Oath
2. Purging Prosecutors
3. Misusing the Patriot Act's National Security Letters
4. Authorizing Illegal NSA Domestic Surveillance
5. Enabling John Yoo and Unchecked Presidential War Powers
6. Rendering the Geneva Conventions "Quaint"
7. Supporting Military Commissions and the End of Habeas Corpus
8. Blessing Unprecedented Expansion of Presidential Signing Statements
9. Facilitating a CIA Leak Cover-Up
10. Gutting Minority Voting Rights

Since that piece was written, Gonzales lied to Congress. Again.

What about the torture memos? That's when you know you're damaged goods. Torture didn't even make the top ten. I'd put it up there.

Gonzo couldn’t defend a parking ticket

That was funny. The nation's top lawer isn't competent enough to adjudicate a petty misdemeanor.

Rough justice in Texas used to be a horsewhipping, but Gonzo probably would enjoy that.
