DLC feels sorry for itself
By Steve Benen Wednesday Jul 25, 2007 8:01pmThe AP’s Ron Fournier suggests in his latest piece that the Democratic presidential field is “snub[bing] party moderates.”
Not a single one of the eight presidential candidates plans to attend the Democratic Leadership Council’s summer meeting, a snub that says less about the centrist DLC than it does about a nomination process that rewards candidates who pander to their parties’ hardened cores while ignoring everybody else.
“They have tunnel vision,” DLC founder Al From said of his fellow Democrats.
Unfortuntely, Al From has it backwards.

Oh, boofrigginghoo.
When is the DLC going to get it that we're all tired of repuke lites?
The DLC needs to just wrap it up.
Elvis has left the building!
Only in America would somewhere halfway between the Republicans and Obama/Clinton/Edwards be considered "moderate."
no al form, we didn't reject your ideas of embracing moderate, we reject your ideas of corporatism, it was because of members of the dlc that was the one who voted in support of the invasion of iraq.
The DLC, is and always was, an organization founded to undermine the Democratic party in the service of economic elites and corporations. Its funding comes not from the grassroots but from vested financial interests. Corporatists long ago realized that they could not legitimately win elections so the undertook a long term strategy to usurp democracy and the Democratic party and wrest it from the hands of working people. Paying attention to who the candidates are and their platforms and voting in primaries is the way to get rid of these fifth columnist usurpers. High information voters did it to Lieberman in CT, you can do it in your state too. GET OUT AND VOTE!
Haha.
Suck it, DLC.
Did you notice that Al From was the *only* person quoted in the entire story? I suspect that he just dictated the whole thing to a willing/lazy Fournier.
(Can a sock puppet be Wanker Of The Day?)
Can't add anything to The Carpetbagger Report (great link) except to reiterate that the DLC is NOT "the middle." They are extreme, hard core corporatists who've sold out the traditional Democratic consticuency.
Oh yeah, and Al From can bite me.
Somebody call the wah-mbulance. I will now look for the world's smallest violin to play... hopefully nanotechnology can provide one.
Maybe Al, the Party and the candidates have figured out that doing things the DLC way has resulted in 14 years in Loserville.
With "centrists" like that, who needs right wingnuts? And isn't it the DLC now with this brilliant strategy of keeping the war going so it can continue to be blamed on *? Candidates are snubbing them publicly while marching to their tune anyway? Can we get someone to call this what it is? Isn't Hillary a member? Aren't a bunch of them members? WTF?
Hopefully, this is a trend of moving away from the old line, deep pocket, do-nothing group we put up with for so many years. Can you say Mike Dukakis?
Meanwhile another corner turned in the Bush-Cheney-Neocon war on Iraq and an innocents child's face of it http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070727/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq
Yes, and that innocent child was hurt as much because of the Democrats now as the Republicans:

Ruthless People @ 13:
...who's going to tell that child he was wounded so Halliburton can get no bid government contacts and so the House of Bush can get a strangle hold on middle east oil....come to think of it, his father probably told him already.
Our side has had the power to stop the war since mid-January. They're playing murderous games, and we are not stopping them.
…who’s going to tell that child he was wounded so Halliburton can get no bid government contacts and so the House of Bush can get a strangle hold on middle east oil….come to think of it, his father probably told him already.
Hope his father remembered to tell him about Democratic political advantage while he was at it.
Snowball @ 4:
Well put.
So the Bushite's miles high pile of stinking lies, corruption, mayhem and death is harming the Reich Wing, even within the Demo. party
This is, should be, encouraging. If we can survive (literally) 18 more months of BushCo without genocide against the evil lib'rals (like Bill OLeilly's calling for) or an economic meltdown, we may stand a chance of regaining this nation & getting the corporate boot off our necks!
But if SHillary gets in, not much will change
Hi DLC! Bite my hairy butt. ( l )
They don't call me anymore for money since I told them what a spineless bunch of corporate hacks they are.
I would say the same thing about the DLC but I also would have to mention that it seems the Democratic party tries to do everything in their power to loose each election, so breaking from itself isn't a big surprise...but then maybe I'm not to clear on the whole meaning of the snub.
99 @ 11:
You're right. Shumer and most of the 'big guns' in the dem party are DLC, additionally, the DSCC and DCCC are simply the house and senate wings of the party. phuckkk all of them. they took credit for the 2006 election results and the credit really goes to howard dean. at least 50% of the dems are in one of the three.
No DLC for me!
No DSCC or DCCC
no rahm, shumer, lieberman or hillary. period.
Well geez, just because the DLC folks have given us Lieberman and the other GOP suck-asses we have now who market GOP-lite, doesn't mean we should think less of them... /sarcasm
Fox News praises the DLC. That's all you need to know.
You know it is a very good thing that there is really no devil that you can sell your soul to for power and money because if there were there would be millions of people standing in line to take the offer. Long term destruction for short term gain is the rule nowadays not the exception. Unfortunately in today's America the people seem to be so weak minded that they will buy anything.
Thank you, BaScOmBe. I feel better. I remember everyone screaming to put the Democrats in and if they didn't deliver then we'd hold their feet to the fire. Well, if this is feet to the fire, we are sunk. WE HAVE TO MAKE THEM TOO AFRAID TO KEEP LETTING US DOWN!
Devoted Lobbying Corporatists
Yes, BIG corporations.
Al Gore makes $100k - $200k per global warming speech--he flies on private jets to get to his speeches frequently. Lots of CO2 going into the atmosphere!
Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton had money invested in CORPORATIONS like defense contractors and BIG OIL! The Clintons have made MILLIONS from BIG corporations and from the WAR!
John Edwards made MILLIONS suing doctors. He charges $55,000 to give speeches to poor college kids about POVERTY!
Michael MOORE charges $40,000 to tell poor college kids about the horrors of RICH PEOPLE!
Do you call FLIP-FLOPPING leadership? Check out YOUTUBE for videos of Hillary Clinton SUPPORTING THE WAR in Iraq, then OPPOSED to the WAR, then calling for IMMEDIATE withdrawal, then saying troops must be LEFT BEHIND.
99 @ 26:
You'll NEVER hold the DFL accountable to anything!
Hillary Clinton SUPPORTED the War. Do you support her?
I most certainly do NOT support Hillary! Or any of the others. I'd support Dennis if I thought he really meant it and if he'd stop the geek bit and stay serious. This is a crappy batch of candidates to be sure. I would support Gore if he ran, even if I don't completely trust him on some things. I'm at least certain that his priorities are straight.
jarka @ 28:
I won't support her. I remember the way her husband smilingly removed the dairness doctrine, knocked poor people off the welfare rolls with no employment alternatives. bombed the chinese embassy in bosnia sold the working class down the tubes with gatt/nafta. phukkk clinton and the DLC. he's just a smiling repug and his wife is a lying asshole triangulator who won't even admit that the wars in iraq/afghanistan were a mistake, much less lies to enable corporate exploitation using the US military.
[I know. you probably weren't addressing me, right? :) ]
the DLC should just fold up their Wall Street screen printed tent
In fact, I think I would lose all my reservations about Gore if he ran as an Independent or a Green.
The DLC is the worst part of the Democratic Party. Those Senators and Congressman that are part of the DLC are the ones that have more often than not let the Party down. Their feckless caving and strings to big contributors have betrayed the voters. They should be weeded out along with the GOP.
jarka, I don't think you read all the pertinent comments... or something.... I never even started to sound as if I might be supportive of Hillary.
The point is: The Democratic Leadership is purposefully not stopping the war, which is 100% within their power, because keeping it going and blaming it on * is too good for them politically. This is murderous, unAmerican and EVIL. There's just no getting around it. They also have the power to arrest Harriet Miers and Josh Bolton, and anyone else who defies their subpoenas, and try them in Congress. They not only have the power, but the DUTY to impeach El Torturador, Fudd and *... but don't want to risk the public becoming sympathetic to those criminals.
This is our responsibility to put right. We are NOT doing it. We are losing room to bitch about the neocons really quickly.
How encouraging! Go Dems! Go away DLC!
What a shame it is for Al From to waste a whole closet full of red ties.
Ignoring the Republicans that are members of the Democratic Party. That's a good thing.
Democratic Looking Corporatists?
The purpose of the DLC would seem to be to co-opt the Democratic party into the corporatist agenda so that whether the GOP or the Dems win, the corporatists will come out on top.
Nobody wants to hear what you have to say, Al. You stabbed Howard Dean in the back in 03/04 and he was right all along. Now, you are irrelevant and Dean is the new hope of the Dem party, grassroots and netroots-oriented. Your old style of politics is going down the pisser.
Buh-bye!
Glad the Democratic Party is getting back on track. Our front runners for prez. leave a lot to be desired. Edwards saying we need to take care of the evil dictators Castro and Chavez! Castro wanted to send medical help to NoLa and bush wanted the people to die. Chavez wants oil revenues to go to Venuzuela instead of Exxon etc. Makes me wonder what Edwards thinks a good leader entails. He sounds corporatist to me.
The AP’s Ron Fournier suggests in his latest piece that the Democratic presidential field is “snub[bing] party moderates.”
Bill Richardson and Barack Obama are not party moderates?
Is Al asking that Joe Lieberman be invited to the party?
The late, great Paul Wellstone said it best about the DLC - "I'm from the democratic wing of the Democrat Party".
Any Amy Goodman/ "Democracy Now" fans on this thread? This morn, she had Cindy Sheehan & Ray McGovern on debating someone I think named Dan Geerstein (sp?), a despicable little DLC troll/toad, on impeachment.
He kept claiming that impeaching these criminals would make the Demos "unpopular" w/ voters and cause them to lose the '08 Pres. election, which he claimed was the only prize worth winning and way to roll back BushCo. He used BushCo tactics of fear & bizarre claims that no sane person would believe. "We don't have the votes" now, therefore all the evidence brought out by investigation wouldn't matter, etc.
I'm not dumping on Goodman for bringing him on, 'coz this is a reminder what's out there in the "mainstream" & why the DINOs betray their base again & again to adopt ReThug talking pts.
But we cannot give in to fear & lies if we want our country and world to stop being further degraded with hate, violence and lies.
Remember, DLC= treachery, Defeat
