The Chaser's Look At FOXNews
By Nicole Belle Tuesday Aug 07, 2007 5:16pm ![]()
The Chaser is an Australian show, apparently similar to our The Daily Show. Having never seen it, I'm just guessing based on tooling around their website.
But based on this clip that Scarce found, I'd really like to see it. Look how quickly they decimate the "biggest name in cable news." If only more Americans could be this discerning.

Voted "representative of the year" by a Florida Police Association.
I'll bet.
GNARLY DUDE!!!!!
well done
this is the nation that spawned Rupert Murdoch.
Freakin awesome.. Those guys are spot on.....
Faux News is recognized for what it is down under? Gee, when will Bill-O and the trolls begin the boycott and the invasion?
What the internet needs is a good upgrade. I can not see this flick. I can not do a lot of things i should be able to do. On the other hand Rupert Murdock can use his 175 Newspapers world widel, his tv networks and his radio stations to influence American Foriegn and Domestic policy.
Screw Him!
I suggest people get a "My Space" account (which he also owns) and rag on his ass!
"Putting the Eeeewww back in News!"
:)
Today, C&L's own posters are funnier.
Having moved down to Oz two years ago, I have become a big fan of the Chaser's. Frequent viewing of the show and you can see that they often put the politicians on the spot. I recommend taking a look at their "look at Americans" for something both funny and frightening. http://youtube.com/watch?v=DJ3RrqBqk14
These shows, like Colbert, Daily Show, Olbermann and now this new one from Australia, bring in viewers and make money - Funny thing is, big corporate media doesn't want to create more shows like this. Hmm, wonder why?
The Chasers is a fantastic show- its more mixed than the Daily Show- it doesn't mind who it targets. I particularly recommend their feature in US TV evangelists, one of whom tells his viewers that God his damanding they give $100 to his ministry.
As for Oz being in the coalition of the willing- I can assure you that, as an Aussie, our govt may be, but about 80% of us are not. And in Nov/Dec, its very likely we'll be out of Iraq with a new Labor govt.
Very funny show. The Chasers don't just take the piss, they will confront people on the street and take the piss in front of their face. (Too bad O'Reilly's in NY.)
And get this: It's not on cable, it's on (gasp!) public television.
There's also a great show on public TV called "Media Watch," that's devoted to serious criticism of media inaccuracies, bias, conflicts of interest, etc. I doubt you'll see a show like that on PBS anytime soon.
This is the same crew that did CNNNN
Great stuff: http://www.cnnnn.com/

This show looks so good. The Daily Show with added irreverence. I thought this clip would be different from the one I'd seen at:
http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchive/2007/08/everyone_loves.html
But lamentably, it's the same one. Guess I'll head over to YouTube. I wish some cable channel in the States would pick this show up or rebroadcast it or something.
Jackhammer! Bwahahahahaha! Destructive, loud, annoying. That's Bill.
WONDERFUL! Too bad we aren't free to have such fun with billO
After we elected Bush to a second term, albeit narrowly, I'm surprised they aren't laughing and making fun of Americans instead of just Faux News.

Best clip I've ever seen! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!! to whoever found this gem. Let's make sure it gets around. Anyone send a link to Jon Stewart, Keith Olbermann or Bill O'Reilly himself, yet?
LOL!
The chasers are such a good show if you haven't seen them before check out them on youtube. They have one where they brought a trojan horse into an embassy and no one stopped them. They then went to several other places without being stopped. Only one place stopped them and when they were stopped their "army" jumped out of the horse and ran away
The Chaser are at their best when taking the piss out of shoddy 'news' shows and politicians.
You can see their stuff on a couple of websites here and here.
The Chaser absolutely rules.
Note that it is produced and shown by the public TV network ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation.) For those who think such a network would be a government mouthpiece, think again. The Chaser mercilessly mocks the politicians in power, who are constantly scheming to rein in the ABC, but are constrained by its huge popularity.
As for Fox News, we Australians should have a National Rupert Remorse Day for having engendered this vile leech.
I hope to see more Chaser clips. Great stuff
the chaser's is a tremendous show, but the stunts are more michael moore than the daily show, although it has the daily show's utter irreverance (moore has no irreverance).

Yes, please!
I'm an Aussie ex-pat who has watched Liberal rule in Australia with shame and embarassment for so long.... please, please, please, guys, get rid of Howard!
(Note to Americans - the Liberal Party in Australia is not liberal in any sense you or I would recognise. They are more like the Republican Party's mini-me)

I was merely commenting on that video and what a thick lot americans are, crooks and liars contributors excepted - of course.
I had the pleasure of catching this program on occasion when I visited Australia earlier this summer (their winter).
The Aussie version of Today was so much better as well.

As your link demonstrated, not only does it appear that Americans are woefully deficient in world affairs it also shows how proud they are of their own stupidity [as when the young lady said that the United States won the Vietnam War since it apparently never crossed her mind that the U.S. could ever lose at anything. Most telling was when she laughed at her own ignorance.]. I used to kid my wife when she told me the [alleged] whopper that history is no longer being taught in the schools of the United States. I will have to issue to her a mea culpa after seeing your link which proves that she is right.
Someone said it is the nation that spawned Murdoch. So what America spawned Bush but you also get John Daily and Bill Maher. It is starting in Australia. They are beginning to see how stupid Fox is.
Don't worry, it gets even worse! Where is Nonnymouse when you need her!

Apparently these dudes hate our freedoms.
I hate to say it, but while visiting the States I ran into one person who while having a chat with someone and I brought up the subject of Tony Blair the response I got was "Who is he?" OK I will make allowances. I was later in DC and I could not convince this attorney from Florida that the White House was burnt down in 1814 by the British (Very Patriotic person she was) and when I first went to the US I was asked where did I come from, on telling the person I was from London the United Kingdom I was asked when did I learn to speak English!
Brilliant!
I wonder what the ratings are for that show. We need more and more voices exposing Fox for what it really is.
God that was hilarious. Yet at the same time, this is why other countries laugh at us.
Totally proves the entire world gets it that Faux noise is nothing but hatred, lies and dishonest propaganda.
Ahhhhh, I'm so glad you guys have picked up on this show. As an Aussie, it's one of my all-time favourites. But don't be fooled, the majority of Aussie media is either openly right-wing (visit www.theaustralian.com.au and you'll see Republican talking points refashioned for an Australian audiences) or just plain lazy. The Chaser boys are hilarious - i suspect they're good at punching holes in Fox because, sadly our country has had decades more of Murdoch than any other (I'm so ashamed that man was born here). Our cable services over here run Fox news and I used to wotk in a bookstore that sold O'lielley's books - we get all sorts of morons comin in sayin "this guy should be in charge of things, he's got the right idea" and other moronic comments. It's interesting to note that The Chaser is run on ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) which is an entirely independent state-funded station.....there is no way that a show like this would be run on a commercial network in Australia - too much fear of offending advertisers, political friends etc.
On another note, this is the first time that I've posted here on C&L (long time reader, first time poster) and I'm struggling to find the words to thank John and all the contributors here. C&L has proven a place of solace as well as a place to find passion and inspiration - go get 'em guys!!!
Fox is mostly considered an oddity here in Australia - send O'Reilley and Hannity down here and I promise they'll gat an arse (ass) kickin like you've never seen (I've only been in one fight in my life and that was when i was 12 - I'd still stomp the se clowns.)
Thanks again C&L.....and again I'm sooooo sorry on behalf of my nation for inflicting the Murdoch cancer on our world.
The Chaser boys are great. They first caught my eye about 6 years ago with "The Election Chaser" which covered our Federal election (think TDS's Indecision) and I've been following their work ever since.
They put out a satirical newspaper but I haven't seen it in a long time, so I don't know if they still do.
If I can dig up some clips I'll post them.
Just to clarify, Murdoch gave up his Australian citizenship years ago and bercame an American for tax purposes - but what does that matter, he's a problem for the planet, not just a single nation.

Great story. It is both hilarious and sad how, at times, ignorant my fellow Americans are. What is even more amazing is how so many of them, as evidenced by your story and the link provided by your fellow countryman Russ at #44, are not troubled in the least by their lack of knowledge. Perhaps they are taking solace in the expression "ignorance is bliss."
Can you imagine someone doing this at the The Oscars or The Emmys?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WOBp-nCF2o
It would certainly make those excruciating hours that the viewer must endure worthwhile.....
The Chasers is more of a cross between the Daily Show and Saturday Night Live. Unfortunately, each episode devolves rather quickly into the silly, too-obvious SNL-style humor. Still, good bits here and there, and it's probably the best political satire/analysis Australia has to offer.
Paying Attention @ 58:
Can't really tell you as the ABC does not directly participate in any TV ratings framework (I may be wrong though), but as previous posters have mentioned, The Chaser (in various guises) are a massive drawcard for the national broadcaster. I do agree that their antics are a more "extreme" Michael Moore type rather than TDS or Colbert Report.
On a related - and entertaining - note, when President Bush last visited Australia, the American news people were utterly fooled by the CNNN program (see post #18 for URL).
Salmineo @ 1:
'nuff said!
Quick, sign those guys to their own show on Comedy Central. That is the funniest thing I've seen in a while about Fox News, other than when Stewart & Colbert rip them on their shows. We need a collective mass of shows bashing Fox News, that way, maybe more people will see them for the Republican Shills that they are. Best moment was when they ripped on Malkin & Co. for their blatant display of leg.
O'Reilly's a creepy dude. They didn't even have to tie it all back to the lawsuit and it still worked.
Great stuff all around.
that was the Daily Show squared.
I hope they don't think we're all stupid enough to listen to Fox Noise. Oh wait...
Russ Mason UK @ 43:
What a great laugh! These guys are the real deal, it's like the Daily Show but without really giving a damn.
The video from the YouTube link above is hilarious. People in the United States cannot name a country that starts with an "U"... I can forgive gringos not thinking of Uruguay, but United States starts with an "U" I think!
Thanks C&L for this link, I will definitely follow this program on the web!!
I was watching a repeat of the Chasers the other night and they signed off with the five (or six?) of them sitting on a couch, with one announcing that "we're all atheists, but we're taking three weeks off for Easter anyway" (rough paraphrase). I just thought that it was great that it was an inconsequential, throwaway line that nobody in the audience would really notice and tried to imagine if someone on US television said something similar.
Great, funny and stick it in your a--.
Yawn, The Simpson's did it better. :)
Whoops, meant to say The Simpsons. Never post while holding a baby. :)
Anthony W. - sorry pal - Simpsons haven't even come close to frying Fox like this - I know it hurts when it comes from overseas, but lighten up - this is gold.
This may be of interest for more of the Chaser's fun and antics....
http://search.abc.net.au/search/search.cgi?query=chaser&sort=&collection...
I hope Jon Stewart finds out about this group. They've got talent.
I wonder what the ratings are for that show. We need more and more voices exposing Fox for what it really is.
They rate very well and often win their time spot.

Pretty funny. I thought the best part was the portrayal of the average American voter's priorities.
Ruthless People @ 29:
evry time your preznit speaks, the whole rest of the world laughs or cries. Depending on where they live.
And the sad thing is....I think the whole damn world is laughing at the USA. Oh how this country has fallen, and all because of bush and the republicans.

I wait tables, and when I wait on foreign visitors, I work extra hard to be a good American representative. Some times I just want to say, "Most of us don't like Bush either... please don't hate us!"
Hello all
First time poster, long time reader. The Chaser team produces good satire - one of their best efforts was a few years ago with their program called CNNNN. The classic that stays with me is the rip-off of A Current Affair (tabloid tv journalism) and the line "Shonky builders with fat kids."
Love this site.
Oh, and having just been hooked up to cable, I'm loving Jon Stewart. Who ever said that American's don't get irony has obviously never watched this show.
Cheers all.
gempei @ 55:
You have got to be kidding! Until we vote them out later this year, the Australian Government and Bush's GOP sit shoulder to shoulder, but still this show appears on a 100% government funded, free to air and 100% commercial free television station. We love our freedoms and lament that fact that you are losing yours
Yes the Chaser are Australian. If you dig deep (you can find some of the stunts they've done), i'll try to share some of them with you. If i had to-I would liken it more to Michael Moore's TV show (Awful truth?) in format, though i wouldn't say its ideologically driven. More tomfoolery and making a wide variety of ppl look foolish.
Though some Americans might be interested to see their earlier work, a spoof of Fox/Cable news called "CNNNN". One of their segments involved 'ppl on the street interviews' thats asked simple questions like 'How many Eiffel Towers are their in Paris'. They simply cut in all the ridiculous responses (i.e no correct answers) given by a wide demographic of people. It made Americans look silly as there were so many foolish respondents. Unforgiving and admittedly unfair. But very funny!

Not exactly true... the Chaser only makes money from DVD sales and the like, it's on a channel that is tax payer funded with a strict NO ADs policy.
I continue to be amazed that none of BillO's guests haven't puched his lights out when he becomes abusive.
Brilliant!
Paul @ 94:
That will be a great moment in television history
I think Comedy Central should try to import this, and air it after The Colbert Report!
What cracks me up is the Aussies reaction when BO is yelling and when he cuts the mike. BO is not civilized.
