FOXNews reporter Courtney Keely reports from Baghdad that the surge is working. Really, it is. Don't pay attention to the fact that she's in a Baghdad market surrounded by MORE security than John McCain and every Iraqi she speaks to tells her about the death and destruction all around them.

I mean, c'mon, don't let the reality of the situation get in the way of a good cheerleading segment for Bush's policies.

Just like walking in a country-side market in Indiana.

she looks safe...no...really

Wow! What incredible progress! Let's hear it for the surge!

Well, doesn't everyone don full body armor, a helmet and have numerous armed guards to do a bit of shopping at the local farmers market? How stupid do these people think we are? Oh, wait, it's Faux-never mind.

You haven't done it, Courtney, because Pox News has never been so desperate to catapult the propaganda.

Just look at yourself, you idiot.

You have got to be kidding.

"More boots on the ground than McCain... Blackhawks circling overhead." ... "The Sunni side remains shuttered. Most of the Sunnis have been killed or fled..." ... "This man says he fears being killed as soon as he leaves the market."

Pardon me, but that doesn't sound like "Life returning to Bagdad" to me. That sounds more like one tiny, heavily guarded public space full of a handful of terrified people and a whole BUNCH of foreign guys with guns. I'm glad for the people who do business there that there haven't been any massive car bomb attacks in the last six months, but you've got to be pretty dang pessimistic to call THAT success of any sort.

Anywhere else in the world short of maybe North Korea on a bad day, that would be more accurately referred to as hell.

There is so much security in the market (troops and helicopters overhead) that stall owners feel safer in the market than outside of it.

Sure the surge is working Faux. Keep reporting the bullshit. The morons who watch you will surely believe you - after all, they live in a faith-based world!

What? Where's her latte and five rugs for five bucks? Christ, who believes this shit any more? OT but MSNBC says Mitten Romney won the Iowa staw poll. Now please someone out there tell me how the straw poll works? Participants have to pay 35 bucks to Vote? Romney bused his folks in and then paid their 35 bucks? Other RNC said they couldn't afford to do that. So...WTF of course Romney is going to win. Seriously what is this about? And please tell me democrats don't do this?

I guess they answered their own question. how disturbing is it that the only thing that causes it to be seen that way is the caption?

We have become Badhdad Bob.

I had to turn it off - it's such bullshit. Is she kidding? This is no way to live. To be decked out in all that armor surrounded by troops and think everything's okay ??!! It's just bullshit. (1984)

so, i guess the objective of the suuuuurge would be to literally cover every square inch of Iraq with american soldiers? yeah that would work, but it would maybe they should have thought of that 4 years ago

What outfit is that she's wearing.

The Giorgio Armani Flack jacket with Kelver head wear and Stuart Weitzman Jackboots?

Good lord! I just looked up the word Orwellian in my online dictionary and this very same video clip was one of the definitions. All I can say is good thing I own that plot of acreage within sprinting distance of the Canadian border.

AMES, Iowa - Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won an easy and expected victory in a high-profile Iowa Republican Party Straw Poll on Saturday, claiming nearly twice as many votes as his nearest rival.

YAYY!!! WE WINNN!!!!

YAYYYY!!!!!

/republicans can blow me

i think the lesson here, for FOX, is don't talk to Iraqi's or show your reporter in ARMOR when trying to make the case that the Surge is working.

I'm completely dumbfounded. A small sign of progress for whom? These poor people are starting to eek out a life despite us completely trashing their country, and she has the nerve to give us credit for it?

That was disturbing on so many levels

The cognitive dissonance of those who claim that the "surge" (escalation really, we should call it that) is showing signs of progress is breathtaking.

so a successful surge will require a 24/7, never-ending, massive military presence on the ground and in the air? That sounds more desperate than successful to me. Or is that the newest definition for "success in Iraq"?

It's like guarding and blocking New York City in a time of war, guarding bridges, tunnels, setting check points all over the city boroughs while the war and terror rages all over the country and then claiming that the US nation is safe and secured. Or Washington if you prefer that analogy. But why would you prefer that. Anyway, secured city means nothing if it makes up a sub percent of the total nation's area. Every American who wouldn't have lived in NYC or DC would find such an approach idiotic, criminal, shameless and inhumane. Thus the American people would like to apologize to the non-Baghdad residents for the Democratic Congress and our collective crimes in general brought upon you for the last 4 years. Again, we are truly sorry.

She sounded like she was 18.

Republicans/Fox are blind and dumb.

Money well spent by Willard Mitt Romney. The only way he can get votes it to buy them.

Another big point that needs to be repeatedly made: This straw poll with ~14k votes cast is only 2/3 of the ~23k of the votes cast in the last straw poll is something that should really trouble the GOP.

without all that armor and that wall military, we'd be staring at two smoking leg stumps.
nice try fox, that skit sucked.

Ozymandias @ 23:

She sounded like she was 18.

And irretrievably stupid. WTF was that slitting of the throat thing she pulled with the old man that was worried about his family? Oy.

There is so much more to Iraq than the market she went to. Even if the market were relatively safe, her interviewees indicated they were afraid of being killed outside the market. Even if that neighborhood were safe, there is still the rest of Baghdad. Even if Baghdad were safe, there is still the rest of Iraq.

I suspect they are just squeezing the insurgents out of one area and into other areas. It's like squeezing one end of a balloon and having the opposite end bulge out.

Faux needs to brush up on their propaganda skills. They’re slipping.

Unfortunately, you have to know something about the world to understand that reporters can usually work in an urban war zone without body armor and a small army.

The Propaganda Ministry: flush with cash, power and ruthlessness, sure....but smart? Not so much.

Did she just do a John Mcain? It is amazing that FOX news still thinks it can sell this bullshit.

I'm surprised that she didn't play up the open-air aspect of the market, noting that there's a 'pleasant downplaying of the hard boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces' provided by the fact that all the buildings have had their facias blown off. It would be a selling point in any American city, and SO European...

I especially love that at the bottom of the screen they've eschewed their usual "statement in the form of a question" with: The surge, is it working! Bwahaha

ahhhh...Baghdad...the new cruise ship vacation destination....Perhaps I'll book my seats on Monday...they say the water is lovely this time of year.

Bwahahaha! If I wanted to do irony, I couldn't do any better than this. She's honest in everything she reports though... only her analysis is majorly flawed (or skewed). It sounds to me like her 'analysis' (!) is but a way of getting her report through the stupid Fox filtering Gestapo agents.

Yeah, pack batteries too.
But I hear Lonely Planet's filming a special for the travel channel right now!

Fox learned from the best, Orwell. Poor old Orwell was only trying to warn of the future, now our present.
All the pharmaceutical ads suggest Huxley was also as prescient.

tell me she's fucking kidding, right......... who believes such stupid shit......Fox News Viewers?????

At first I thought this was a clip from Fox's Half Hour News Hour. Of course they don't show the people when they leave the market fearing for their lives -- and if they're lucky enough to make it home alive they have the pleasure of sitting down to dine on rotten food and and washing it down with putrid water without so much as a fan to cool them in the 130 degree heat because there's no electricity. The splurge is going swimmingly.

Saigon was never that bad for reporters. Never. Think about that.

"The ones who complain about being afraid of dying are only a fraction of what they once were. We can't find any of those people to talk to us right now, but as long as we show you pictures of people not complaining then they must think that the surge is working by default, right?"

I so sincerely hate fox news.

You know, this could almost be a parody of Fox News by The Daily Show. I can't wait until Aasif Mandvi gets his mitts on this.

It means "Killed by Al-Qaida" in sign language. Anyway, since that lady clearly didn't understand the Iraqi tongue, she did it purely to reassure the Fox viewers about the Al-Qaida presence in Iraq which is sick in it own right.

Just think how peachy keen everything would be had Bush not bombed the living shit out of Iraq in the first place.

forestyan @ 36:

I was wondering that myself. And somehow, it made it onto television. What does that tell us about either a) the intelligence of the Fox editors or b) how intelligent the Fox editors think their viewers are?

I don't know about the Fox News viewer, but I personally didn't come away from that video ready to book a shopping spree in Baghdad.

What part of "just last week a bomb ripped through this market killing 74 people" would lead the Faux audience....oh never mind..

Pet peeve.

It wasn't Groucho, or Harpo, or Zeppo Marx, that delivered the line to Margaret DuMont:

"Who ya a gonna believe, me, or your own eyes?"

But CHICO Marx.

Chico Marx.

Believe me, or don't, but here it is from Duck Soup at the 01:27 to 01:36 mark.

Who ya gonna believe....

That being said, ironically enough, this is the most unvarnished and honest reporting I've ever seen on Fox "News".

To her credit, it doesn't look like Courtney is putting lipstick on a pig here.

Not that that will ever register with the average Fox "News" viewer that can't tell the difference between Karl, and/or, Groucho Marx.

~Nyc

.....and the sad part is that Fox News viewers didn't even see the helmet, kevlar vest....or the security force as far as the eye could see......then to top that off, ordinary Iraqi citizens telling stories about missing family members....every gd one of them......WHAT A FUCKING SUCCESS!!! .....while all the inbred, knuckle-dragging, trailer trash Fox News viewers are wondering what the fuck is wrong with 75% of the nation.......incredible!!!

since David Asmin took over the documentary dept. Fox has become ever more Pravdaish

Terry @ 41:

Saigon was never that bad for reporters. Never. Think about that.

In 68 during the Tet Offensive things got a little sketchy and in 72-73 thing got even worse...But your right....things were not as bad as Baghdad is now.

Damn, that clip looked like something off Comedy Central! For some reason Jon Stewart's voice wasn't in the background though.

It's beyond anything Orwell could have imagined when they show and tell you the carnage, then call it progress......and so many still believe what they're told vs what they see with their own "lying eyes"........

this is the first time she's been able to go out there in the last 2 years? So she's been doing all her reporting from a hotel room...ok....fixed noise

It's all so fuc*ing surreal that we've fallen this far this fast. I'll try to be optimistic: BushCo and this most recent brand of GOP/neo-con/conservanut may have cured us of their evil for some time when all is said and done. Seems that the knuckle-dragging ceiling is about 25%.

The Iraqis in that report are shouting down an empty well.

I'm assuming we can all agree that that's the proper adjective to use in describing Courtney--empty.

My word, that is the worst attempt at propaganda I've ever see. Rove better see to it that she gets replaced--SOON. Too much of this fair and balanced reporting might end their chances of extending this Fiasco past September.

If we say enough it will be true, if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true,if we say it enough it will be true......

The only thing funnier than that "report" would have been if a bomb blew off her HEAD right there during her "stroll".

And gee, they say it was way, way back, fully TWO MONTHS AGO that those bombs went off... so I guess two months is the benchmark for showing that it's safe now.

What a dick.

looked to me like thoes dogfaces were trying to feel her up!

FuxNooz, "Hey the surge is really working!"

Iraqis, "Things are bad. Things are terrible! We are always affraid,
we can be killed just right now talking to you!"

FuxNooz, "But, but...but, the surge...you know, it's working!"

Iraqis, "Ahhh, No."

FuxNooz Studio, "Just keep saying the surge is working Courtney!"

So, was she able to by a rug for less than $5 ?

If the answer is yes, then the surge must be working.

When FuxNooz Keeps trying to hammer America to death with their
repetitive bullshit just watch the video of their lord and master Cheney
predict the mess he and his administration are going to create there...

The surge can work. Just keep the thousands of US troops in Baghdad and put a giant wall around the city for about 30 years. Call it Camp Fuckup and voilà! a working surge.

ah, it's Happy Iraq.

where do the shoppers come from? do they all live inside the market square? for that matter, do the shopkeepers live there too? will the US Army be staying 24/7? anybody with half a brain HAS to be asking questions, right? RIGHT? god, please tell me that's right...

i love the chyron: "The Surge is Succeeding!" complete with exclamation point. just in case you didn't know you were suppose to be happynow. and the Fascist News sheep will point and say, "look, proof!"

"we are at war with Europa. we have always been at war with Europa."

we're BEYOND Orwell at this point.

One thing I would like to ask that "reporter" is if the "troop surge" really was "working" than why is she in all that gear and wearing a helment? C'mon woman: you said it was working!

"O'Brien silenced him by a movement of his hand. 'We control matter because we control the mind. Reality is inside the skull. You will learn by degrees, Winston. There is nothing that we could not do. Invisibility, levitation — anything. I could float off this floor like a soap bubble if I wish to. I do not wish to, because the Party does not wish it. You must get rid of those nineteenth-century ideas about the laws of Nature. We make the laws of Nature.'"

Surge of what? Bullshit, propaganda, and lies? Oh wait---Fox, of course it is then! Better get this dimwit a pair of hip waders for the torrent of garbage to come.

This is like making fun of the retarded kid. Meanwhile, our armies are evaporating in the desert. Enough nihilism for one century.

It's almost funny-- the GOP noise machine worked just fine here in the states for so long. They could shout anything they liked, and just repeat it until it became the line of debate.

But it's taken them all the way to this; trying to sell a very real, very dangerous occupation to the public. This isn't an abortion debate, or a "war on Christmas" scam. They're very slowly learning that shouting a thing loudly does not make it so.

I woke up when I start to see real news on Link and free speech TV. They are on the dish network. I will never watch Faux news network. If Dick Cheney only wants them you know it is bad.

Oh, that was one of those "good news" videos. This is one of those times when you could say, if this is good news, I hate to see what bad news is. Only, when you make the statement, you know exactly what bad news look like.

I say let the president's "golden boy," who has moved CNN over, deliver the news we can trust. He can use a Fox news optimistic report, and for good measure, a real Al Qaeda sighting. Yes, maybe we can get actual footage of what Al Qaeda looks like. Then we can update the file footage they use every time they have a fear sale.

The lie Bush has assigned General David Patreaus is a big one. Patreaus will have to be creative to fool an already fed up US public. Right now, there is nothing good to report. Unless the general is a wizard, he will have to tell a tall tail of how Iraq became reformed the moment he stepped on the Iraqi soil.

Media types have a vested interest in putting a Republican back in the Whitehouse. They are among those few who benefited from the Bush tax breaks that the Democrats are threatening to take away. Don't expect balanced or objective reporting from folks who's paychecks will be effected negatively by the next election. You'l be hearing a lot of positive reporting about the "Surge" and a lot of negative reporting about the do nothing Democrats between now and November 2008.

"I mean, c’mon, don’t let the reality of the situation get in the way of a good cheerleading segment for Bush’s policies."

I couldn't have said it better myself. Right on the money. What she says and what is revealed seem to be in two totally different universes.

I agree. I respect Michael Ware's reporting over anyone. He tells it like it is.

Nothing anyone else says backs up her reporting. Why would FOX air producer that? I was waiting for something to blow up in the background at any moment.

I think she borrowed that ensemble from John McCain, or maybe Joe Lieberman. That's why it doesn't fit.

She was bait. Faux Noise are master baiters.

Given the number of journalists killed in Iraq I'm curious about the U.S. military's criteria regarding protection of the press.

FLMAO! That belongs on The Daily Show, great comedy.

Ah, "The Baghdad Market" - The barometer of the Iraqi f**k up.

-Serg, wake up the boys, we have some VIP who wants to see the market!!
-Is it John McCain again? Come on!! Do we have to call up two helicopters and 50 soldiers from the base again?
-No, It's some Fox News chick. 10 fully armed men will do.
-Roger that.
-Tomorrow we'll have some Senator who wants to see the market. Just a heads up.
-I will let everyone know about the mission. By the way, I'm looking at the new manual, Sir, and I'm kinda confused. Do we call up Blackwater guys to help us with the Senators?
-No, only foreign Presidents and Ministers, US Secretaries, US President and Vice-President.
-OK, got that.
-By the way, how's the market today?
-Some gun fire in the morning, but it's peaceful now.
-Good. Keep up the good work boys.
-Will do chief.

Forget the surge. The real story is the permament occupation of Iraq.

The Democrats will do nothing to stop ExxonClintonBushCo and Executive Branch, Inc. from staying in Iraq for the next two decades, or from going after Iran and instituting a draft to make sure their neocon master plans all become reality.

Just you wait - not supporting a draft will be painted as not supporting the troops on the ground.

Passive Democrats in Congress have easily ignored the vocal minority on the left because they realize that the larger public does not give a shit about the war, and the end result is going to be an occupation that goes on as long as the oil companies want it to go on.

Too bad they didn't air the footage from when she went to see the school being painted -- 3 mortars went off!

"Top of the world, Ma!"

Why doesn't the government just build a Potemkin Village somewhere safe and peaceful (like on Ft Irwin out in the Mojave) and stock it with a bunch of actors dressed like Arabs?

Then they can fly these dipsticks in at night, tell them they are in Iraq, give them a quick tour (Universal Studios style) and then ship them back to Wingnuttia D.C.

It would still be dishonest, but at least they wouldn't look stupid.

Think about this: She was on a guided tour of Iraq to show off how great the Splurge is working, and this was the best they could do.

How fucking bad is it in the places they didn't take her?

hey come on. This was a pretty balanced report, What you are all laughing at is the fact that it WAS balanced and yet appeared on Faux News. I actually think it was quite subversive by their standeards and am shocked that it aired!

I totally pictured Stephen Colbert in that video instead of her. Hilarious - Fux reporters are parodies of themselves. Hahahaha!

Makes me want to break out laughing, if it wasn't so f*cking sad in reality. The general strolls through the market with no helmet, no jacket, only 100 soldiers protecting his royal ass.

This story is pathetic. What are the locals telling this shill??? Anyone hear it? This place is a puppet show. SURGE...stuff in enough US military to make it look like it would be impossible to penetrate, and NO IRAQI's to buy or sell. Just a big stage for show. What a joke.

The trolls buy this shit..and the shills shovel this crap...but I AIN'T BUYING!!

Yes our brave young ignorant idiot from faux noise I mean she went out their and proved that the surge was a true success and all you do is criticize the idiot. I mean people are telling her that they are being attacked have lost their family members and she dutifully lies as she is suppose to. Tssch tssch what a MORON station.

How is this progress? Is FOX journalism this delusional?

The reporter did a good job. It should be obvious that she is crossing her fingers, giving the sign of enemy coercion. Management has told her what conclusion she must reach, but she has managed to convey to the careful observer the real story.

I'd like to know how many square feet are now considered safe.

Personally, I believe her. No, really, I do. No.... really....

What have we come to if we can't believe Fox?

Fours years into this mess 'o' potamia and no one can visit the marketplace in Baghdad without a helmet, body armor and while being surrounded by at least 10 bodyguards?

Control Baghdad? We don't even control a small part of Baghdad! People have to wear body armor in the heavily fortified "Green" zones.

And she was gushing about how much better things are, because THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IN 2 YEARS THAT SHE GOT TO TALK TO REAL IRAQIS!!!

I couldn't make it quite all the way through this extremely silly piece, but holy cow! Who falls for this crap? (I know, I know, they're Fox Noise viewers, they can't seem to help it.)

This naive young lady is trying to say that there is wonderful progress in Iraq and that everything is going swimmingly, but everything about her report (except the on-screen caption) reveals the EXACT OPPOSITE.

This is deeply pathetic.

Wow, not only was that not a believable report (signs of success and progress, my ass), but it was also quite boring. I got the impression that Courtney Keeley (nice porn star name!) didn't even believe the words that were coming out of her own mouth. Is that what you call "phoning it in"??

Lame.

Fox News - for people who hate reality.

Ha!Ha! Looked just like my marketing yesterday.....are the FAux News watchers really that stupid?

Here's another part of the transcript they probably left on the editing floor:

"Yes, it does indeed seem that normalacy has returned to this market area for the people who call this home. Aside from having no one to buy the offerings of the market booths, living in constant fear of another attack and watching hundreds of armed and uniformed soldiers from an occupying country walk up and down the market, it is a completely normal existence."

Just the sheer audacity to walk around with that many soldiers while wearing helmet and flak vests to talk on camera and say the surge is working is beyond belief. Only Bush and Cheney hiding under a desk in downtown Baghdad while giving a press conference would top it.

That is hysterical. The surge is a major success as we have secured a market. Essentially, billions of dollars later, it is now safe to go back to the mall, so long as you have 100+ armed guards. Go USA.

how can she make light of these conditions?? she talks as if she's walking around the market with a dress on an no soliders, not covered in bullet-proof material. does she think that's normal? what neighbourhood did she grow up in?

Another day, another opportunity for our military industrial to foster genocide and mayhem in Iraq.

Brought to you by ExxonBushCo, LLEB (Limited Liabity Executive Branch), Inc.

In 4 years, inside the nation's capitol nonetheless, this fox news model hasn't been able to walk downtown with full body armor fully surrounded by troops? I figured out what the surge is for. These are soldiers earmarked to protect fox news models so they can complete their propaganda. Occasionally she is actually able to talk to an Iraqi? Perhaps the bush regime should try that once in a while.

CG @ 1:

Just like walking in a country-side market in Indiana.

I haven't been to Indiana for a while, but I remember that the people were dressed a little differently when I was there the last time.

I hate to tell Fox but she sounds like one of those "reporters" for a high school morning news program going over the lunch menu or the sports scores. She is the worst on TV reporter that I have ever heard. Then again, she is working for Fox Opinion.

Fox's Faux journalism finds unintentional reality. Camera's don't lie,but Fox does. More progress,,,but for military contractors selling us more equipment.

That helmet is standard gear for Courtney, her brain has been damaged since birth.

I read this blog every day to see whats going on in Iraq and the war.
http://www.warnewstoday.blogspot.com/
Not pretty.

It's like bi-polar journalism. It goes back and forth between happiness and sadness, finally ending on a good, positive note. I guess Fox news viewers are the type to only clue in on the beginning and the end, and cut out all those stupid little "facts". Facts always get in the way, with this administration. If the facts don't add up, you're just looking at the wrong set of facts.

Like you all I find this stunningly idiotic. Take the Iraqis at their word -- no, they're not meat puppets in the its a small world exhibit at Disneyland -- there are no customers. Hmmm... One fellow was afraid for his life if he left the market. O.k. Lets see. A market needs buying and selling and the "fickle finger of fate" à la Mr. A. Smith's "invisible hand" to make it, a-hem, "real." (BTW: could he be inferring the big cloud being in the sky is a cashier?) And the "surge," doesn't this sound slightly sexual? A little like Vietnamization was some sort of acrobatic S&M pose?

Then there's the figure of speech "more boots," right up there with my favorite euphemism, "soft targets." More boots on the ground and the flutter of blackhawks overhead make this market piece not a staged event how? And hey, aren't those synecdoches we're supposed to support without question filled with somebodies relatives, and don't these formerly known as soldiers retain their "christian" names while in uniform? Again hmmm...

So, I want to understand this, we need to put national guard troops in another (once sovereign) country to make it look like "things are returning to normal?" Why? By what rationale? This is protecting our nation, let alone theirs from...? Then, we get this "report" (no its not propaganda) from Fox's Courtney Keely who is bulging with Flak (Flieger+Abwehr+Kanonen) vest and swimming in crooked helmet as fatigued men (literally and figuratively) bump into her like Keystone Cops, as she said. She looks cool, calm and collected, doesn't she? Don't shoot the messenger...

And these "men" a.k.a. "boots," and/or fathers, sons, grandfathers, with high powered weapons at the ready, bespeckled in cheap sunglasses, with "the glass so dark (we) won't even know (their) names, so they can shield their guilt for killing innocent Iraqi citizens who go off script, or if they need to work on their target practice... They are there so the free market forces don't get the best of anybody. Right? And yeah, nobody is posturing for the camera, looking all stoney-faced pugnacious like all "good" and insecure American troops must look to the grateful Iraqis... Because, as the cliché goes, isn't the "eye the window of the soul?" So better not let these ruthless insurgents all notice that you're made of flesh and bone too by show the blankness of your stares, eh?

On a lighter note, as Mr. Baudrillard points out, the concept of "hyperreality," or the inability of consciousness to distinguish reality from fantasy comes from "successive phases of the image in which the last has no relation to any reality whatsoever: it is its own pure simulacrum." The last word "simulcra," is Biblical, it basically means "the map becomes the territory." Much like Iraq has now become a teevee farce for the ills of the America zeitgeist, an SNL skit that is part Greek tragedy (with attendant homo-erotic implications), part Marx Brothers (both Groucho and Karl), and part Mickey Mouse Club with guns, bombs, DU, lies, distortion and death.

Ha! Ha!

LOL. So idiotic. "Hey I got an idea! To make the surge look like its working lets pack 50% of the surge into a small market and film there noting that theres no bombs exploding and people walking around as they please!"

well then the problem of violence is solved! we simply have to keep apache helicopters patrolling and a shit house full of armed soldiers there forever. yep, we've figured out how to stabilize a city, it resembles disneyworld now and all the citizens seem so giddy.
foxnews is shameful.

Well at least Fox News disclosed the fact that security was everywhere. Although the story was more or less dumb as hell. "Wow! For the first time in two years, I was able to sneak in a conversation with a dude who thought he'd die if he left the market! What signs of progress for everyone!!"

How fucking vacuous is this woman? She makes a slashing gesture at her own throat when questioning a man about his two missing daughters, as if to ask, "Were they killed?" Really sensitive.

Two years in country? Learn the language, you idiotic TV floozy.

Broadcast journalism = NO journalism. And FOX makes it worse.

Let me get this straight: The surge is working because this market in Baghdad is not selling anything, these old Iraqi's are afraid to leave the market (go North or South) because they will be killed, the Sunni side of the market is boarded up, but no buildings have been blown up recently.

Yep! Sounds like success to me!

Sheesh....

A picture is worth more than a thousand explanations and excuses.

I just changed my plans for my late summer vacation....I'm heading to Baghdad!!

C'mon now Courtney was able to perform this amazing charade with a totally straight face. You have to admit what a great actress she is. Unfortunately she's a "reporter", not an actress. FOX NEWS and it's writers, readers, and pundits, have no clue that there's a difference.

Wow, just wow. One soldier for every civilian. In no school in Amerca, would we ever have a student/teacher ratio so high.

What did that sortie cost the US taxpayers? Does the Army send a bill to FOX?

Ya, this video is pretty freaking flabberghasting.

What is the cost in blood and money to keep that market open and how does it help win the war? Of course, we don't talk in terms of winning the war anymore. Now, official double talk is about how "the surge is working."

I like Courtney Keely :) He is a funny reporter and I'm glad to see him safe

Faux really knows how to pick 'em, don't they? I'm convinced there must be a pool of unemployed reporters they pull off of the street who will work for food.

"Americans and Iraqis are dying everyday but hey don't let that get you down. Everything's going swimmingly. It's great. It's, um, progress. Yeah that's it...Progress! Would I lie?"

IMPEACH.

FoxJazeera News, just so we are clear on this historically:

Invading Iraq was a mistake.

And then, invading Iraq with too few troops was a mistake.

And then, invading Iraq and standing by as the Iraqi people looted and destroyed their infrastructure and while lawlessness took over their country was a mistake.

And then, throwing to the street 200,000 trained Iraqi military personnel and 50,000 Iraqi intelligence officers (spys) was a mistake.

And then, not capitalizing on the initial popularity of Prime Minister-designate Iyad Allawi was a mistake.

And then, allowing the insurgents to methodically take over region after region in Iraq during our 2004 elections (so fewer troops would be killed) was a mistake.

That is how we lost the Iraq war.

And just so we’re clear on this historically FoxJazeera; it was not because of the ‘tree hugging’ protestors, it was not because of the ‘latte sipping’ college professors, it was not because of Bill or Hillary Clinton, and it was not because of the ‘liberal’ media…

It was because of the policies put forth by a shockingly incompetent Republican administration and their cheerleaders like you.

Yeah couldn't watch that all the way through..........Jesus H Christ, she had on more armor than RoboCop. Yeah that was a steaming pile of shit.....I mean propaganda......I mean a fair and balanced news report.

What strikes me is that this pathetic display is the best that Faux and the Pentagon (especially Gen. Betrayus) can stage. Almost every frame has more American troops than Iraqis and nowhere does this market appear to be a hub of commerce. But I suppose that goes right over the heads of the die hard 25%.

It's interesting that will all this B.S. that Americans have still not protested in the streets and called for impeachment.
Maybe there is some responsibility to be had by the American people.
If you're not willing to do anything but post complaints on websites then maybe you deserve what you get.
Get your fat asses off your couch and get away from your computer and start organizing before it's too late.
It may already be too late.
Bush owns you,not just the 25% that have proven their lack of intellect but you,the other 75% that knows what you have to do but are too lazy.
Good Luck America

It's the Bagdad Boob!! bwaaaahhhaaaahaaaahaaaaaa

Did they show her getting gangbanged back on base?

If Iraq is now "safe", then why is she dressed in helmet and flak jacket? Does anyone wear that when you go to your local business district?

I got it, all we need to do is build Wal-Marts, Starbucks and give away free SUV's and free direct TV so they can watch NFL ball games, and peace will follow. But Iraqis aren't as shallow and mindless as your average American, so that probably won't work.

That was the point. To make her look like the policewoman from Robocop. For Fox News, the Iraqi War is a movie-like experience after all, from Day 1 - the shock and awe explosions to Day Now - the Baghdad market life. But then again, 600.000 dead lives bothering your conscience need some counter measures. Solution? Feeling good, turning off the brain cells responsible for critical thinking and judgment of the reality and enjoying daily dose of the positive Fox reporting from the Dreamland.

Jon Stewart will have a hard time mocking this because it mocks itself.

Imagine Samantha Bee in body armor reporting how great everthing is while you hear gunfire and see explosions behind her.

See what I mean?

why are you guys so obsessed with fox new's bald pussied propaganda, flag-waving bullshit? right wing christian wackos will eat this shit up and believe in it no matter how loudly you snort and smirk at them. these are the same people who believe there is a big sky daddy watching over us, remember?

stop obsessing over this shit and go take a friend out for ice cream.

Gotta wonder if the reporter wasn't trying to slip some reality in, under the pro-Bush story banner.

No doubt, peace has returned,
Just observe how well the Sunni's and Shiites are getting along.
OOPS! sorry about that.
I forgot, the Sunni's have all been killed off or run out of town.
That purge certainly is working.

what fashionable attire she has on for her little market stroll. nice of the military brass to place so many of our fine tropps in harms way so this repube twit can spin her web. un-f-ing believable.

Listen to what Courtney says, not to what your prejudicial assumption says going in because you assume that Fox News is going to lie. She SAYS it's small progress. She doesn't say its because of the surge. If your mind is already made up that she's lying, the go watch CNN. At least Courtney has the guts to GO to Baghdad and see for herself. She's been reporting from there for Fox for three years, which is more time that most of the military personnel have spent there.

OMG! I feel so safe now I want to reelect Bush even for a third term!!!
