Sunday Talking Head Thread

cafeaulaitnoj.jpg(Photo of a tasty looking cafe au lait and oj in Quebec City via Bill on Capitol Hill.)

The Sunday Talking Head thread is up and ready for the reading. It's quite an interesting mix this morning, with everything from Iraq to infrastructure and a lot in between on the topics menu.

Perhaps it is just me, but I think the subject of Harold Ford's loss last year and this op-ed that Kos and SusanG penned for the WaPo yesterday might come up in passing on Meet the Press. Here's hoping that Markos gets an opportunity to ask Mr. Russert why it is that he even bothered booking the politically tone deaf, irrelevent, self-promoting Ford in the first place, and why Russert still masquerades as a news man now that all of us know that Dick Cheney owns him. What, you don't remember that Cathie Martin classic?

-- MTP (putting VP on MTP), plus a pro and con of putting VP on MTP Pros: best format, we control the message

Could make for some fun viewing this morning. Here's hoping, anyway. Plus, there is likely to be quite a bit of discussion on the "buy yourself some voters, promise them a buffet and stick 'em on a bus day" Iowa GOP straw poll. And of course, Bob Geiger has his regular cartoons.  So, what's on your mind, catching your eye in the news or on the blogs this morning?

It will be difficult to watch these shows. I have not done so in over three months now. Its all skewed towards war happy and anti-people politicians, usually from the rabid right saying how much more war we need.

Well, this is my take on the radical-extreme right wing which never gets called on by the mainstram media for their hatred and bigotry which exists as anyone who ever visited the websites of People for the American Way or the Southern Poverty Law Center would know. Yet the media stays silent on these radical right wingers who belong to the White Citizens Council and publish articles in the Partisan magazine which is an extreme right wing publication which says the most bigoted and hateful things one could imagine. These extreme radical right wingers go on these Sunday talk shows and are the ones living a double life as they are part of these extreme right wing organizations that go undetected by the media/press. Yet the same media/press are so quick to label the "extreme left." Most southern Republicans running for Congress get money and go to events sponsored by the White Citizens Council. Their attendance at those meetings and accepting campaign dollars from these radical right organizations ought to be open for discussion and no longer left astray. In my opinion, Radical-extreme Right wingers = Satan worshippers.

Until these radical right wingers are called on their hypocrisy, I will not watch these shows and will have to rely on Crooks and Liars for the highlights. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to kos tearing old weird harold a new one. Ford is so much like the "good negroes" that are so popular in the GOP. As they used to say, "He knows his place."

For too long we have seen Blacks in this country portrayed in one of two stereotypes:

Educated, conservative, middle-class blacks who dress, talk and behave just like a stereotypical white person.

Ghetto-dwellers. Yep, the "N-word" types.

What's amusing is watching the GOP fall all over itself to show off their prize negroes so that they can brag about how diverse their "big tent" is. The last couple of conventions, every person of color in the building was up on the stage.

But in order to be one of the GOP's "good" negroes, these black men and women must be Type 1's and be opposed to affirmative action, welfare, hate-crimes laws, or anything intended to help minorities. They must be staunch conservatives on every issue.

Ford should have joined the GOP if he wanted their votes. Because they'll never vote for a "N-word" Democrat.

Romney thinks the United States is a corporation:

"The United States is the largest enterprise in the world."

I was laughing at Bush's fake press conference the other day... and I was thinking, if there was ONE QUESTION, and ONE QUESTION ONLY, what would I ask him (before I got thrown out and banned from any future White House fake press conference)...

There's really nothing I want to hear from him, he really doesn't have much to say... so I came up with this question, which has NEVER been asked directly to him:

During the Presidential debate, what was the BIG box showing through the back of your coat?

Possible answers:

1. I don't know
2. I don't remember
3. There was no box
4. hehehehehe; next question.
5. You ask that... I want to talk about "spreading liberty" in Iraq
6. It was a transmitter, where Karl Rove was feeding me answers to the questions so I would look smart
7. I'm going to have a talk with my tailor about that
8. That's old news, can't you think of something more recent

Romney (essentially) agreed with Obama's position that we'd go after OBL even if Pakistan didn't cooperate. HIS complaint was the fact Obama "publicly revealed" that that is something we might do.

What a douch.

A sick interview with John Gibson and the journalist that said we need another 911 to bring america together. He back peddled, saying someone else wrote the heed line and backed away from the word "need". But he does feel its the only thing that can save us, and John Gibson added that there will have to be a lot more casualties this time.

The guy almost got into trouble on his fluff piece when he stated the war in Iraq has been conducted horribly by the administration, but the guy gets off the hook when he says the troops are doing a great job.

The Fox is rabid, and needs to be put down. That would bring America together more than any neo-cons 912 fantasy.

Romney just described (and defended) Seamus's kennel as "this was a completely airtight kennel..."

He locked the dog in an "airtight" box??? And if it was "airtight", where did the dripping mess come from???

Mugsy @ 5:

Romney thinks the United States is a corporation:

"The United States is the largest enterprise in the world."

Ummm, it -is- a corporation, with one key missing factor; businesses are non-living beings/entities in the eyes of the law, whereas government functions under the same conditions, interfaces (too readily) with them, and yet has no legal recourse unto itself because it is not considered a being. Oh, and also, the government coins soft currency for the businesses to use. This is where capitalism goes when you don't uphold some level of separation of business and state (much harder even in theory than separation of church and state). You cannot have a system of governance based around money and commerce that is not in itself based around (or highly involved in) similar principles to the businesses and commerce it fosters. Checks and Balances, and mandatory changes in term are what separate government from a normal business. In essence a business can be a family dynasty such that the progenitors of the business 'never die'; our government cannot, in theory, have a dynasty.

If you want to see this change, you must work to change every facet of law that grants businesses the rights of non-living US citizens that never die. But to do that would topple the idea of commerce as we know it, and society would crumble. Marvelous world we live in, sometimes.

He back peddled, saying someone else wrote the heed line and backed away from the word "need".

I emailed his show yesterday (though that wasn't my letter he's referring to) pointing out that "this is what Ann Coulter called Treason among Liberals".

The big news on FNS: "a 40% decline in turnout to the Iowa Republican straw poll over 1999."

Sure is nice of Donna Brazile, member of the DNC and should be neutral, spouting off Hillary Clinton talking points.

She must have said 15 times "she showed she's the candidate with experience... etc."

What bullshit. Shut up, lady. If you're working for Clinton disclose it. Otherwise stop putting her talking points out there when you're in the guise of a journalist.

Gibson and that journalist say alot about the Bush Administration's supposed leadership when they state that another terrorist attack on the United States is the only way to bring the American people together. They are basically saying that without the threat of terrorism or an actual terrorist attack, the Bush Administration is and always has been nothing. No other Administration has had problems in finding ways to rally the people and they sure as Hell were not reliant totally upon an enemy to help them out.

One of the talk shows will finally have an anti-war activist on their program in the person of Dennis Kucinich on This Week. It would seem that if one is not running for president of the United States then the chance that a representative from the anti-war camp appearing on television [except for Democracy Now!] is slim to none, with slim having left the station hours ago.

Why did Bush tell a reporter 'I can hardly speak English'? Did he think the reporter was deaf?

Sarkozy asked one of Bush's aides, 'Since he doesn't know French, and can't speak English, how can we communicate?'

'Do what Putin does, just look deeply into his eyes'.

All-ya'll might wanna take that coffee with low fat milk and a brisk walk, this weekend...

U.S. lags behind 41 nations in life span

"The starting point is the recognition that the U.S. does not have the best health care system. There are still an awful lot of people who think it does."

Don't get me wrong, I loved my 10 years in the USA, but there were a few things that you guys really need to check out in other countries, before that claim of "best god-damn __________ in the WORLD!" gets spouted.
Here are a few that I noticed in my time in the USA. Feel free to replace "health care system" from the quote above, with whatever you, yourself, have observed from your own travels:

-cheese
-football
-government
-beaches
-public transport
-bacon
-phones
-education
-police
-educationed police
-guitars
-intentions
-insurance
-beer (oops, should've been 1st on my list)
-hangover medicine
-teeth

Granted, the list of stuff that I loved about America is pretty long too.

...but hey, where's the fun in that!!??

Ok, I just watched kos and Old Weird Harold go at it, and Ford was wimping out with talk about bring the left and the center together and kos was kicking his ass.

Criticism of kos - he needs to develop a deeper speaking voice and speak a little slower if he's gonna do television.

On MtP, Ford still thinks Democrats can't win unless they pander to the Right. Markos correctly pointed out that the Party does better when it doesn't.

Mugsy's picture

On MtP, they showed the poll results from Iowa. FNS mentioned McCain getting "less than 1% of the vote". Doing the math in my head, am I wrong that "None of the above" came in 2nd?

When candidates "triangulate," "run to the center" or "move to the right," they are taking the left for granted in order to appeal to the so-called middle.

By doing so, they alienate their core constituency and then wonder why the left is so tepid in providing them support. Meanwhile, those voters in the middle doubt their sincerity and honesty.

If they stayed true to their roots, they would maintain a motivated base and then the key would be to persuade voters in the middle that left is the better choice.

FDR didn't run as "Hoover Lite."

Yes Tasty

The next step is for consumers to refuse to eat genetically modified “food” which contains a toxin in every cell of the “food.” If food and drink products are not labeled “non GMO” or not labeled organic (which means they can’t have GMO), REFUSE TO BUY THEM. How you spend your money is the only thing that will determine the future health of this nation – almost all regulatory authorities are on the take – including Congress.

Mugsy's picture

Dennis did a good job on "This Week", but he pretty much dodged the questionon what's he doif someone set off a "dirty bomb in Cleveland."

If anyone from the Kucinich camp is reading this, please point out that "dirty bombs" are NOT "WMD's", and would almost certainly be the result of a small group of extremists rather than an attack by a foreign country requiring a "military" response. The appropriate response would be to treat it as a "CRIMINAL act", just as Clinton did after the 03 WTC bombing.

It's interesting that Tim Russert wasn't on today's show where the two Democrats were debating old guard vs new guard. Bet if it was a Republican he would have found time to be there. Markos really did a good job of pointing out the falacies of the DLC people. No one respects someone that tries to hide their true identity. Eventually people find out.

Ford is pathetic. Agreeing with Hannity's bullshit. I'm not a huge fan of Markos M but what Ford was agreeing with was complete bullshit.

Would love to see a report of the Kucinich/Stephanopoulos interview on Crooks and Liars. Any chance you can post that on your web site? it would be most appreciated. He did an excellent job, and it gives wonderful incite to his pledge to help abolish all nuclear weapons as President.

Thanks.
