Let's Call This A "Housewarming Gift"...
By Christy Hardin Smith Tuesday Aug 14, 2007 9:02pmHow about helping out with a nice, little housewarming gift for Karl Rove?
We just had a great candidate on for Blue America who is running to replace John "Box Turtle" Cornyn as the next Senator of Texas. In case you missed him on Saturday, Rick Noriega had a fantastic chat with everyone at Blue America -- and it is well worth a read through the comments to see why Howie is so excited about his candidacy.
So, here's my idea: What do you say we all chip in a bit to help Rick do just that? And if you have a few extra bucks, feel free to check out our other fine Blue America candidates for the 2008 election. Because, really, a legacy of failure for Rove is a terrible thing to waste, isn't it? Rove himself said he's a good fundraising incentive for Democrats who think he's besmirched the government, and you know how I hate to disappoint Uncle Karl.
As Howie says, we need more and better Democrats in office. This is a great way to give some essential, early seed money support to some of the fantastic candidates we've found for Blue America -- and to be sure that the candidates running in these districts are true progressives, not sell-outs. Help us change America, one election at a time. Because what better way to celebrate Rove's legacy than working hard to elect better progressives to Congress so that they can shape the nation's agenda for years to come?

I'd like to know of all Blue America candidates: do they plan on becoming Blue dog dems if elected to office?
Is he actually going to stand up to Bush?
Cornyn does need to go, I'll be happy to vote accordingly.
Is this an effort to weed out all of the "faux Democrats" in office?
Cornyn is horrible. Let's please bring him back to Texas in '08, so he can follow Dubya back here.... (I'm trying real hard to be good!)
¡Desde Tejas muchachos!
May he rot in hell for the hell he helped create for so many on this planet. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070816/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/rumsfeld_resignati...
Nope. No money.
I really like Rick Noriega. He gives me hope for a better country. I get depressed when carnies like Cornyn use the culture war soma every election cycle
Only Kucinich. the rest can kiss my lilly white ass.
Spreading more lies and fear, no one is better ---- hands down. http://www.YouPolls.com
I would not be too sure about Noriega yet, since he is backed by Bob Perry - the guy that financed the Swift Boat Attacks against John Kerry. Check it out below. This could be a Karl Rove trojan horse.

Over at Chris Cillizza's blog for the Washington Post, there is an interesting discussion about how Cornyn is a "loser." Link.
The most interesting point is a fact pointed out in the comments:
The backer of Noriega who wrote the Texas Observer trying to explain the relationship between Bob Perry and Rick Noriega WAS PLAIN FLAT LYING!
The Noriega backer said: "Also, I wanted to let you know that the first time Rick met Bob Perry was when Perry visited the George Brown Convention Center when it was turned into a shelter for those forced to flee New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Noriega, as you may know, was asked by Mayor Bill White to oversee operations at the center, and Perry left impressed enough that he became a financial supporter of the Noriegas."
Hurricane Katrina refugees first arrived in Houston in September 2005.
If you search the Texas polticial contribution database for Bob Perry's or Rick Noriega's contribution history (here the database: http://www.ethics.state.tx.us/), you see that Perry was giving Noriega money at least as far back as September 29, 2000 (five years to the day before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans) and again in October 15, 2004, almost a year before Hurricane Katrina.
Noriega also voted to require Texas to do a citizenship on children seeking CHIP coverage, and he voted for a right-wing marriage bill that requires either paying a fee or taking a religious marraige course. I'm not so sure Noriega's a wide-eyed liberal.
...
Here's a shocker.
Remember the Noriega backer who posted the false story about Bob Perry not becoming a Rick Noriega supporter until Perry met Noriega through Katrina relief efforts?
That Noriega backer who posted on the Texas Observer blog is James Aldrete. IT TURNS OUT THAT JAMES ALDRETE -- WHO LIED ABOUT NORIEGA'S TIES TO PERRY -- IS A TOP OFFICIAL WITH THE NORIEGA CAMPAIGN ON NORIEGA'S PAYROLL!
I think someone's going to get fired over this misrepresentation!
Bob Perry has all he wants/needs in Cornyn and Hutchison. If he's contributing to Noriega, he's just hedging bets.
Never buy a Perry home.
My prayers have been answered. This oily foe head lunitic by the name of Senator John Cornyn Republican from Texas has been a real pain in the ass for this country.
He is one of the most disgusting republicans in the party and there are many of them, but this fellow has a record of voting down any legislation that would take money away from corporate America and he will vote against any policy that would restore the rights of American citizens. He hates people period.
He is a perfect candidate to be placed in the huge republican toilet, that will be waiting for as many of them as we can get the hell out of office, so lets have row toe router on stand by. They are going to have a lot of employment of unstoping that huge tolilet, come 2008.
I am going to get on my email and notify my Texas friends right away about this one.
There really is a God folks.
StCyrlyMe, is it that Huchison isn't up for re-election at this time? I find her to easily be as evil as Cornyn.
John F @ 11:
Look at Noriega's legislative record. I mean really look at it. Rated 100% by NARAL for supporting a woman's right to make her own health care decisions, rated almost as high for family supporting votes, and a staunch supporter of equal rights for all.
And if you're inclined to have vapors over contribution lists, then I suggest you apply the same scrutiny to Mikal Watt's PAC directing contributions to Greg Abbott, David Dewhirst, the Hillco PAC, et al.
Knee jerk reactions are ill advised in either case. That only makes the RPT scalawags hopeful that Box Turtle will prevail despite his anemic approval numbers.
Either Watts or Noriega would be a sizeable improvement over Box Turtle John. But why settle for better when you can have best?
Appreciate all the support we're getting to oust Cornyn. It's gonna be a fight, no doubt, and there is only the one political guarantee.
We can't win if we don't fight. We're gonna fight. We'd love it if you'd fight alongside us.
Rick is an absolute GREAT candidate.
The perry thing doesnt bother me. He hasnt gotten any favors from Rick. Rick voted against tort reform and is well aware of the problems with the homebuilding industry here in Texas.
The donations, by the way, were unsolicited.
And dont worry, perry will be supporting cornyn, and we at least wont have to worry about perry swiftboating rick.
It is a win win.
The other Democrat has no experience, is an attorney, and is filthy rich.
