Sunday Talking Head Thread

espressopour1.jpg(Great picture of an espresso shot pour via CoffeeGeek.)

The Sunday Talking Head line-up is ready for the reading. It's a whole lotta Rove...there is not enough espresso in the whole world. In the meantime, Bob Geiger has a fantastic round-up of editorial cartoons from the past week. And for an additional laugh, enjoy this Rudy's "foreign policy" (and I use that loosely) take-down from Fred Kaplan in Slate. Priceless.

What is catching you eye in the news or on the blogs this morning?

If it were just people "talking about" Rove, I might skip today's programming.

But with Rove himself bloviating all over the place, I expect to hear some real whoppers this morning.

Today Rove's fat face will be plastered across America's TV's screens, again.

Never before had a college dropout become more powerful in gov't and had so much influence. But that's SOP for BushCo, either a dropout for domestic advisor, a horse lawyer to run FEMA or 150 "graduates" with "law degrees" from Pat Robertson's Holy Roller U to take over the justice dept.

They've been pushing this meme for about a year now at least. Limbaugh does it exclusively now, too. It's definitely intentional.

McClatchy covers Waxman's discoveries:

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/19034.html

Top Commerce and Treasury Departments officials appeared with Republican candidates and doled out millions in federal money in battleground congressional districts and states after receiving White House political briefings detailing GOP election strategy....

...In 2004, ...an assistant treasury secretary returned to New Mexico to announce with Republicans Sen. Pete Domenici and Rep. Steve Pierce the release of $2.5 million in economic development funds....

In 2006, Evans' successor, Carlos Gutierrez, and his aides also made public announcements with several Republican congressional incumbents, including in the battleground states of Missouri, Pennsylvania and New Mexico. Weeks before the 2006 election, Gutierrez and Congresswoman [Heather] Wilson announced $3.45 million in grants for Albuquerque organizations. Also in the weeks before the election, a deputy secretary and Republican Sen. Rick Santorum announced that the department would be investing $2.25 million in Philadelphia.

The same year, then-Treasury Secretary John Snow and Santorum announced an award of millions in tax credits to Pennsylvania organizations. Santorum later lost his seat.

Snow and his aides also made appearances in 2006 with Republican incumbents or doled out grants in Virginia, Iowa and Ohio, states seen as crucial to the GOP retaining control of Congress.

(Much of the article is given over to spin about the Hatch Act, which is administrative. The meat is CRIMINAL. This is documented graft to politically-connected organizations with the R stripe, as part of the Rovian election fraud scams).

Argh!

Rove couldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it!

Gregory asked him about WMDs and Rove said there weren't any, then he goes on to say that Saddam refused to disclose his WMDs. The very WMDs that Rove just said he didn't have!

One of the most ironic things rove said was that we have to protect the constitution.

Seems a little late for that Karl since you and your ilk have wiped your asses with it.

I can't do it. I can't look at Rove full flush in the face on a large screen TV. I don't believe in judging a book by its cover but the sight of Rove makes my eyes throw up a little in their sockets. He's like a 200-lb maggot in a bad suit and glasses.

He's apparently developed some kind of mutant superpower to repel the normal gaze and actually destroy eyes that look at him too long. I think his long career specializing in poisoning the public trust by stealth is what's behind this protective / defensive mechanism against perceived threats. (I think I'll skip the Sunday Morning Cartoons in favor of holding onto my breakfast.)

Good Grief Rove is bad enough but the whack-job kristol just claimed the republicans will win the White House in'08 and rove will be vindicated. How this idiot gets any respect is apparently beyond my limited intellectual ability because I don't see that happening, but what do I know.

thanks to dian finestiens excellent decishion to not require paper ballots on the republican diebold machines they probably will win the presidency, even if you catch the bastards stealing it again what cha going to do about it, oh yeahthe same thing you did in 2000 and 2004!

I give everyone credit for watching Rove this morning...I just can't do it.

Bit NOLA's picture

When the angel of death comes into your studio on his farewell tour, it's still a bit too soon to poke him with a stick.

At least that's how the MSM on-air pricks would have to think of Hot Karl, except at Fox (and maybe the other places too, so what do I know?), where they must be hankering to go along with the Devil as he descends.

Personally, I'd carry a great big stick to Karl and pay him back for every evil thing he's done. He would hear a lot about New Orleans before I ran out of breath. "Carry that to Hell," would be about the last thing he would hear from me.

Mugsy's picture

Anyone else catch this conflict: "Saddam Hussein's own officers thought he had WMDs", followed shortly after that the war could of been avoided if "Saddam simply admitted he didn't have WMD's".

Okay, ignoring the fact that Saddam DID say that, I'm trying to figure out how Saddam could of said he didn't have them if his officers were telling him he did?

Curtilingus's picture

Actually its one of the few chances Ive had to watch Rove speak. If you are going to debate his actions to your conservative friends (everybody knows at least one) then you should see how the guy operates.

Anyway, the funniest part to me is where Rove accused Chris Wallace of being an operative for the democratic congress. The said it twice and it was in response to his question of what he had to do with the firing of the judges.

Chris Wallace is an operative for the democrats.

Who wuuda thunk?

Mugsy's picture

Joe Wilson is going to have plenty to say after Rove has now annoced on two shows that Wilson "didn't include findingsin his report that CONFIRMED the British report."

Wallace quoting Shakespeare on Rove's nicknames: "A rose (Rove?) by any other name would smell as sweet".

This seems rather appropriate when you understand the context of Shakespeare's quote. The way the line scans the actor would have said "A rose by any other name would smell..." leaving "as sweet" to the next line...this was a swipe at the Rose Theatre, one of the Globe's chief competitors, which was located near a bear baiting pit which were known to smell horribly.

Biden continues to cite the Balkan example as a great success and a potential model for Iraq. Anyone who has even the first clue about Kosovo knows the diminishment that the administrative and military internationals in Kosovo have been practicing since 1999, to make things look not nearly as disastrous as they are, so that we can move toward Kosovo independence and wash our hands of the ethnically pure, narcoterrorist mafia-state we’ve helped create. Christian churches burned since our success? Don't ask, don't tell.

Mugsy's picture

The poll on ABC news has Biden pulling a strong third in "who won". Odd.

The Dem debate has been a MUCH more "substantial" debate with more pertinent questions than any GOP debate.

Are you nuts? May be you should learn from Blair's/Brits mistakes in having similar SSR that president Bush is offering.

Everything that President Bush touches becomes poison.

I shall not be surprised that Pres. Bush would like to play with the SSR just to create a demise of the citizens.

EZ's picture

The ABC presidential debate is a farce. Keep talking in the air; the empty promises.

If there were to be elections soon between Kucinich and Hillary; Kucinich would win the election.

The reality is Mrs Clinton will be nominated if there is to be an election.
This is part of the unholy alliance.

Rudy is more dangerous than any other candidate out there.
I believe he actually may be dumber than Bush.
The half baked drivel he puts out in his "Foreign Policy" statement isn't even coherent!
One of the scarier pieces is how he suggests the "Our Ambassadors PRESENT our position to other countries."
This sounds to me like a continuation of Bushes "Yer either with us or agin us!" strategy, and we all know how well that worked.
Somebody needs to learn that in the "Global Community" things should be done by negotiation...not presentation.

I watched the Democratic "debate". What a waste. You had Stephanopolos baiting all of the candidates for the first twenty minutes or so with the question of,
"Is Obama ready to be president?" Someone should of told him that every candidate present is ready to be president, that's why they're running, stop asking stupid questions and let's talk about the issues. Geez what a hack! If this is what we have to look forward to for the next year we're in trouble. Hopefully the internet will get the candidates message out because the MSM is too worried about their own existence to do the job.

Either that, or the Re-DOUCH BAG-lican Party.
