Michael Vick Pleads Guilty
By John Amato Sunday Aug 19, 2007 4:22pm
I figured they gave him over the weekend to make a decision.
Michael Vick's lawyer said Monday the NFL star will plead guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges, putting the Atlanta Falcons quarterback's career in jeopardy and leaving him subject to a possible prison term. The offense is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, although federal sentencing guidelines most likely would call for less. Vick's plea hearing is Aug. 27...read on

I know what I'd LIKE to say, but I was raised not to use such language.
Prediction:
16 months....he'll have to serve 80% of the sentence.
I still find what Vick did to be no more or less inhuman than the factory farming that feeds this nation malnourished, maltreated and misused flesh.
Anybody, regardless of who they are, that participates in, observes, organizes or bets on dog fighting is scum. There is no other word, really, that one can use in polite company to describe the type of person who would be involved in any aspect of dog fighting. It is simply not acceptable in any civilzied society. Oh, and America too.
I hope it ruins his career. We'll see, the NFL only cares only about money.
[Deleted. Please restrict your comments to the topic and not other posters]
Pete, you're right. But at least this one won't be abusing any more animals, so that's a good thing.
RMHK, you've got a lot to learn.
RMHK @ 5:
His NFL career is indeed ruined (at least it BETTER be). He'll have to resort to the European or Canadian league after he gets out of jail.
[Deleted. Sorry, but no hijacking the thread, no matter how passionate you are about a veggie diet]
How ironic, Vick doomed to be the perpetual "underdog".
Maybe if he does time, somebody will treat him like a bitch.
Serves him right.
Dr. Matt @ 7:
I seriously doubt that it will be ruined. Wait and watch. See the triumphant return in a few years. Then you can really be sickened. He in the Dirty South we fly by a different set of beliefs.
Pete,
The difference is that factory farming, though terrible, does it for a reason. I don't think factory farmers goad their livestock into killing each other.
Vick did it out of sheer cruelty.
The head of the NFL said he is still looking into the investigation. What the hell more does he need to see that Vick is a criminal? Vick himself admitted it, isn't that enough proof for him?
Vick has more money than god, so he didn't need the money he made off this blood sport. So why did he do it? He did it because he enjoyed it and that makes him the lowest of the low life. They said on TV that this judge is tough. I hope he gives him lots of years in prison to think about what a lousy son of a bitch he has been and how he totally fu*ked up what could have been a good or great football career. The commissioner of football should be hearing from all of us right now.
Sorry, I didn't feel like using proper language when it comes to this SOB
He's taking a deal so the prosecution won't delve any further in the case. Vick has something else to hide. He needs to be out of the NFL. We don't need the likes of him.
I'll be hugging my dogs when I get home.
So has this incident troubled americans more because it involves dogs [and not e.g. humans in Iraq ], or because it involves football?
Sincerely asking. Some of my best friends are dogs.
Wow, a real dog bits man story!
When your lawyers recommend you take a plea deal, you know you are in deep shit. Vick knows they have him dead to rights and two or three of his buddies in this mess have plead guilty and will testify against him. He was doomed if he didn't take this deal. It's the best he could do for himself.
hadenuf @ 17:
Sadly, I think many Americans are more troubled by cruelty to animals than cruelty to other humans.
But in addition, Vick was so deliberately cruel, you can't help but want him to do time.
We love dog stories. There was Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, that other one, Paris Hilton...
I think we Americans can be deeply bothered by two things at once. We can be deeply bothered by a war and we can at the same time be deeply bothered by a grown man forcing dogs to fight to the death and killing those who wouldn't fight for him. Killing them by horrible methods and apparently feeling no remorse.
Vick won't serve any time. He will pay a paltry amount in fines. Americans love their football players. Vick has nothing to worry about. Those endorsement by Adidas, Nike, and their corporate ilk will continue to support Vick. Americans will continue to buy those products paying for overpriced junk made in China because it is the in thing to do. Americans would rather have the in pair of shoes and a mouth full of rotten teeth.
Well, there's still hope for us then if we're still outraged by animal cruelty.
I feel that it's a positive sign recently, for animal rights, wrt no-kill shelters and independent animal rescue, as well as information on factory farming.
Although the charges to which he pleads may not include gambling, his co-conspirators will allocute that he was involved in gambling, and the NFL can conclude that he was involved in gambling regardless of whether he is convicted of gambling related charges.
That means, according to the NFL rules, that he is barred for life. The dog fighting is a side issue.
weaseldog, what breed(s) is that fuzzy little fella in the foreground?
I witnessed a neighbor dog kill another one a few years ago; I'm still traumatized by the memory.
How anyone could find this enjoyable is beyond human comprehension.
kerplunk @ 21:
I find this outcome unlikely. Many different people, including sports fans, must feel appalled by Vick's sheer cruelty. As a whole, Americans don't like having pets treated in this cruel way.
I see him suffering the same fate as OJ. He'll serve some time and spend the rest of his life rich, but not enjoying celebrity status any more.
hadenuf @ 26:
Thats why you aren't an American Football Hero.
Weaseldog, hug them for me too. :)
I think Vick's sponsors already pulled his name from their product lines. I also believe Vick will do some time in jail or prison if it's over a year. There may be some heartless fans that will see nothing wrong with what he did, but I don't think the majority will feel that way.
What a bum this guy is... he doesn't deserve to play in the NFL or anywhere else. Some humans are so inhumane it's sickening.
pissed off patricia @ 12:
Right on POP....Even if he spends a short time in jail/prison, he MUST be banned from
Profootball for life-time..His inhumane treatment of dogs is unacceptable and he should
be punished appropriately.
Gus @ 25:
He's a Chihuahua / Poodle mix.
Vick signed a ten-year $130 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons in December that was unprecedented in the NFL in terms of guaranteed money. The deal included a $30 million bonus for the former Virginia Tech quarterback who was the top overall pick in the 2001 draft. Vick's biggest endorsement deal is with Nike, but he also draws a check from Coca-Cola, Kraft and Rawlings.
Paul,
I can see your point.
My only point earlier on though was that I find it interesting and perplexing that some cruelty is okay (and I am not, for the record, pushing a veggie diet here) while other cruelty is not. I find myself unable to make a distinction. I see this as a symptom of a larger problem...
I also find it interesting the intense visceral reaction to this case many have and the blind eye that is turned to so many other things that we do as humans to other species (specifically I am not speaking of posters on this board, but rather random things I have read in other news media).
That is all. I am glad that Vick has been stopped, and I am equally glad that so many do find what he was doing to be wrong and barbaric, but it would be nice if somehow this would open the door to people reflecting on how we treat other beings, period.
As I said in my comment on the other thread (that got deleted by the site monitor).
He'll be signed by the Oakland Raiders in time for the 08/09 season.
paul @ 18:
Sorry but I disagree. If the guy was guilty of hanging, electrocuting and drowning people, I think we would be very upset. It was our immoral gov't that swept Abu Graib and Katrina under the carpet. I think people were incensed by both events.
BTW Pete @ #3. Are you excusing Vick by implicating the corrupt animal food industry? Sounds like it. Maybe more people should become vegetarians or purchase organic/free range/humanely treated animal products. It IS an option, you know. (Not to mention that in our society dogs are domestic pets, not farm animals)
Finally, Vick should get a lifetime ban, not only for the felony and cruelty, but for the gambling that the NFL has such a "problem" with. He won't tho. He'll probably be allowed back in a few years (when he's over the hill) to cash in on some easy money. Can you say Mike Tyson??
Pete @ 34:
Yes, I agree.
Dr. Matt @ 7:
He can't get a visa for employment in Canada with a felony like this on his record and the European League is dead as a dodo. He might get a job in the arena league if he's very lucky.
Pete @ 34:
Good point my previous comment on your post stands corrected
a guy @ 36:
You could be right, but I bet if you took a poll, more people would think ill of Vick than those responsible for Abu Graib. I remember during the first Gulf War people cheering in bars as our bombs landed on Iraq. Those bombs killed people, many conscripted into service.
abarts @ 1:
I'll say it ... he's a thug. Millions of dollars that he could be using to truly help people, and he chooses to be a common thug.
If the NFL understands anything, it's that they have a very powerful brand. I seriously doubt that they will tarnish that brand by allowing him to ever play again. The NFL doesn't need Michael Vick. He was in the midst of becoming a bust anyway.
His brother is a punk too.
...
Doggiebobo @ 31:
i have serious doubts this will happen (lifetime ban). leonard little killed a man drunk driving and has had mulitple alcohol related legal issues. he still plays and is still cheered. granted vick is a celebrity and little is known only in football circles so that may lead to a stronger stance by the league, but it's not in their interest to keep him out.
Oh goodie, football news.
We get so little in Texas.
DOG VADER!
Dr. Matt @ 7:
European League is no more.
He'll have to change his position to "tight end" and his cellmate will tell him, "Here comes the long one!"
Yellow Elephant Safari @ 35:
So sad, but oh so true...so long as SenAl Davis runs the Raider Nation.
His homey's turned on this moron....He, in my opinion was never that good as a quarterback. Look back at his record! His record as a human being is even worse!
Anyone who could do what this piece of garbage (censorsed) did to those dogs deserves
the stiffest penalty the law allows....I have two little guys who are spoiled rotten, but hey! Maybe I could make a buck or two if they are fighters....I think I'm off to buy a rape stand! Talk about a total absolute lack of moral standards....Vick is a thug always was always will be.....F*ck him!
Vick gets to have his dog in prison.
http://fanaticking.com/photos/Michael_Vick_Dog.jpg
I don't think it sounds like an excuse at all. Pete is merely saying that some of us don't distinguish between animals called pets and animals called dinner. And just because some animals are "food" animals, doesn't mean they suffer any less than those dog's Vick and his bitches tortured.
Sorry, you people are living in LALA land if you think he will do one minute in jail.
remember that running back who was drafted into the NFL? the one who raped a girl senior year of college? the one who was allowed to plead guilty to rape and only received 5 years of probation? because the NFL went to bat for him? i cant remember his name,, but he went to the rams at one point. pleads guilty to rape, 5 years probation, multimillion dollar football career. oh yeah,, he was convicted of drunk driving three times while he was in st. louis. the head coach stood behind the guy after the rape, and 2 dui's,, but kicked him after the third dui.
vic will get probation,, heavy fines,, forced to donate to the humane society and maybe do some spay/neuter commercials,, and be allowed to live life as normal. thats a perk of being rich,, your above the law,, shit,, why not just have chimpy mcbush commute then pardon him.
I'm thinking either Bush commutes his sentence on the way out the door (but leaves the fine in place) or Romney pardons him if he's elected. I mean, I can't see either coming down on the same side as PETA. That would set precedent.
Maybe after his time in prision he can serve his country in Iraq?
Dirtpatch @ 51:
Lawrence Phillips. Your cynicism is not misplaced; but this is a much different league now. I'll eat my hat if he doesn't go to jail AND ever sees an NFL paycheck again.
Republicans are recruiting Vick for District 2 seat for US House Rep for 2008 election.
NFL- Ban This Thug @ 53:
How did that work out for the last guy?
I would like to see Michael Vick, put in a small cell, with a Pit Bull with Rabies!!!
Dogfighting is cruel and disgusting in the extreme. It seems they've got Vick nailed dead to rights and he should serve out his sentence.
However, if he does his time, admits to his mistake, takes steps to make amends and proves that he has actually learned from his past then he deserves a second chance.
Just like everyone else.
There's only one "just" sentence for Mr. Vick, which is to act towards him how he acted towards his own "athletes:" Put him back on the field, and the first game he loses, he's executed on the 50 yard line at the end of the game. The fans get to vote on the method, either electrocution, hanging, drowning, or being thrown from a great height. To make it more dramatic, have each one of his henchmen go first after the first loss, then so on until Game #4.
I'd bet the NFL ratings would skyrocket. They'd jump at the chance.
Trash is trash. It always stinks no matter how much money it has. May he rot, perhaps get mauled by a dog or be placed on a rape stand while in jail.
He's a very disgusting pile of fecal matter
It's not coming down on the side of PETA, it 's coming down on the side of the law.
Brave Sir Robin @ 59:
Hey, not a bad idea...."Reality Sports TV" at it's very best....Too bad Howard Cosell is
no longer w/us, for I can just hear him doing the bit by bit account.
I think he can beat this rap if he takes it to trial.
Overpaid athlete who makes millions playing a child's game and tortures animals on the side. Great American role model. Maybe these are the American values Peggy Noonan is referring too that makes the terrorists hate us.
"Romney-Vick '08."
Pete, thanks for exposing the fact that many dog fighters get their start in this manly "sport" by peeking in slaughterhouse windows and jerking off.
If they don't have a slaughterhouse nearby, they blow up frogs with firecrackers like the sadistic simian currently fucking up the world.
We adopted a little kitten that had been abused. He had nightmares and was terrified of men outside the family for a long time. I'd like to get my hands on the brute that could abuse this sweet, loving, gentle, little creature. What a horrible life Vick's dogs had. Thank heavens he was busted so he can't torment any more dogs. I wonder if Vick can be rehabilitated. Does he have any sense of empathy for living things?
What a choice, had it all - and threw it away. But I still think they're making an example out of him. They can use his star power in a better way; rather than ruining his career and the potential of making a big difference by giving money to an animal cruelty causes. Still think that's a bit over the top, over zealous prosecutors wanting to make a name ----> http://www.youpolls.com/details.asp?pid=367
I'm surprised that between Virginia and Georgia someone hasn't tried to harm Mr Vick.
PollM, there are witnesses to the crimes he committed. Being over zealous by the prosecutors wasn't necessary.
Now, what about that business of stealing valuable dogs to sell on Ebay, then using the money to buy Stinger missiles for al-Qaeda? FoxNews has all the details:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,293268,00.html
Bush should commute his sentence, pay a big fine, work for PETA for a year or two and play football. I'd much rather see him practice his vocation than any criminal in the administration. thats fair
don't count on any real sentence. Ray Lewis was involved in a murder and he still plays ball. the NFL is a business that relies on big players to draw in the big crowds for big money and Vick is huge. they'll suspend him, fine him, and send him for counceling, that's about it. he's just another "thug" player livin' the "thug" life, might actually help his career.
Maybe King George "the dunce" will commute his sentence as he does for all the other criminals.
Oh, wait...Vick is black. No such luck.
Expect Vick to become a force in the prison "fight to the death" cockroach circuit.
For those who asked about it, Vick's playing days are done.
No one in the NFL will take a chance on him. As stated, it's all about money in the NFL and NO owner will want to deal with the rabid PETA protesters that would converge on them weekly.
CFL is pretty conservative. There was a lot of consternation over Ricky Williams going up there to play and he's just a a guy who smoked a ton of weed.
NFL Europe is defunct.
I doubt Vick's ego would allow him to "lower" himself (I am acutely aware of the irony) to play in the Arena League and they'd also have to deal with the good folk from PETA at every Vick game.
Interesting to note, here in Japan, the jersey thing is starting to catch on and a Falcon number 7 was by far the most popular (key word: was).
The Navy Exchange still sells his jersey here in Yokosuka, but they are now in the bargain rack. I might have to give them a call today.
Vick will be expelled from the NFL for good- a lifetime ban.
An anonymous NFL official has pointed out that not only was Vick involved in this reprehensible activity, but that he was also the "House". That is, he was the architect of this particular dog fighting operation, who couldn't lose. That's all the cover the league requires to rid themselves of this headache, this bum. And anyone who knows anything about the NFL can't doubt they'll pull the trigger. Leastwise, I'll be shocked if he ever takes another snap on American soil.
Why? He makes so much money playing Football, and he does dogfighting part-time? It's true, people with lots of money are idiots. Need more proof? Turn on E! for a split second lol.
Bravo out.
Horatio @ 74:
But he is Condi and Colin blackish, so it's ok.
Tim in Japan @ 76:
i would hope that you're right but i bet he wont get ousted from the NFL.
Adam "Pacman" Jones was suspended for one year after being arrested five times in two years. Jones was not as popular as Vick so i think he'll get another chance to play once he's been "councelled" properly. The endorsements are definiatly gone though.
WR said: "I would hope that you’re right but i bet he wont get ousted from the NFL."
I'll take that bet, WR. See my post (#77).
Vick is cooked.
the fans don't give a shit whether he plays ever again. there are only 2 things fans care about: what time does the game start and what's the point spread.
i wonder how many peoples pet dogs have been stolen by this pricks friends out of thier cars and fenced in yards and butcherd by his pit bulls for practice, god damned people like him and his kind ,why should people like him get any breaks at all? isnt thier enough brutality being done to animals by souless ass holes who chain thier dogs to trees with no food or water or human compashion , i watch animal planet on tv and cant believe how cruel some people can be to dogs and cats, but then these freaks useualy only get a small fine or are forced to clean the mayors toilet for a few weeks, if i had my way they would get the same treatment they force on animals, and id gladly help in thier rehabilitaion,
WR @ 80:
Pacman Jones will definitely get a 2nd chance - people like animals
(especially those that are pets) more than that they like people. And,
after all, Jones' actions only resulted in the permanent paralysis of
his victim.
Vick? I'm thinking that he can buy his way back into the league - perhaps
a $10M donation to a Humane Society or PETA. Plus, most people are lame,
and will not care as long as he's exciting, etc.....
Also, get your gaijin tail down Honmoku Doori and get
those Vick jerseys before they run out - they'll be worth something on eBay.
WOOF !
Arroyo @ 84:
hey get over to the enlisted mans club outside of the bases gate and buy me one of them big nippon beers and a hamburger and chili!!!!yum,
tyree @ 86:
Some hero, Vick, the puke. May he lose everything.
They call it dog fighting, but it's dog torture. I understand he personally killed dogs when they lost, so he engaged in dog slaughter, too.
You know what they say about kids who torture and kill animals.
I think while some owners see a windfall in Vick's notoriety, labels such as would emerge with a dog-killing quarterback would not wash off overnight. "Cat-killer" Frist and "Dog-Beater" Dobson come to mind. Any owner that had the temerity to knowingly recruit Vick would be viewed as a craven opportunist (much moreso than the usual craven opportunism of the NFL...) and would be fodder for the millions of voices that weren't there before the internets. Issues have more sticking power these days and thousands of keyboarders have long memories...memories that are no longer stifled by the 'MSM info gatekeepers' of yore.
In other words, even if 'Sports Illustrated' wants to resurrect Vick, the typing public won't allow the horrific issue to be swept aside. Any team that recruits him will be roundly castigated, drag their own anti-dogfighting 'cheering section' to every game, and, lest we forget, there are linemen who are animal lovers and would relish the chance to contuse Vick into a pulpy mass multiple times during any game. (Not to mention the linemen on Vick's own team who, being animal lovers, would contrive to miss a block or three.) Vick would probably set sacking records for years to come....what owner/team wants that?
Let me state for the record that what Vick did was reprehensible.
BUT...Has anyone noticed the subtext here? Vick is (a) black and (b) rich. I think these two factors are playing a huge role in his prosecution. Prison time seems disproportionate to the offense here (as bad as it was).
This is another opportunity to bring down and make an example of a rich black man, like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jackson. (and no, I don't believe any of the above are innocent).
"the fans don’t give a shit whether he plays ever again. there are only 2 things fans care about: what time does the game start and what’s the point spread".
Untrue.
Taking away a person's rice bowl is as serious as it gets.
Vick should suffer a lifetime ban, I think, but I also think it a god***m shame it ever got to this point. He was fun to watch play the game- a true talent, who may well have surprised contemporary critics. John Brodie of the 49er's, an NFL MVP in the early '70's, once said he didn't wise-up as a QB until he was 30 years old. NFL history is replete with such stories. But the onus of Vick's mess rests entirely on his shoulders, and not the league's, and certainly not the fans.
It's a great game (and I don't gamble on it). And, as with politicians, I'm ever ready to turn my back on any number of transgressions players may embroil themselves in. But not this one.
Vick gambled, and he lost.
Dr. Matt @ 7:
No one less than someone like Al Davis of the Oakland Raiders will sign Mike, if he is released after serving one year in the Fed' pen. However, state charges are pending and, if they indict and he's convicted or pleads guilty, the penalty could be more than 2 years, but not greater than 3 years. He'll be 31 by that time and will still have some game left to help some team, for the QB play in the NFL is mostly garbage. Al will give him a chance when he gets out, because he has always marched to his own tune as an owner. Mike will return to the NFL, provided the League does not ban him for life through some sort of behavioral policy that prohibits convicted felons from playing in the League, which I think the NFL doesn't have.
Gollum @ 90:
Race is always a factor.
Also, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jackson weren't convicted of anything, right?
Gollum @ 90:
The man forced a dog's head in a bucket of water to drown it. If they had shot the dogs it would have been bad enough, but they actually took joy in torturing a defenseless animal. Prison seems like a good fit for him and his buddies.
I don't think this had anything to do with taking down a rich black athlete. I am not sure what the normal sentence for something like this is but if this is disproportionate I would be surprised.
Your subtext is just coincidence, there is no more a conspiracy here than there was against OJ. Maybe his fame brought him more attention than most would get, but this is all his own doing.
The whole racial thing can be overdone when it is cried out at times where it clearly doesn't belong. There are tons of times in which racism plays a major factor in someone's life, but this is just about a scumbag who liked to kill dogs. I think bringing it up here trivializes what many honest and upright citizens actually go through. Don't try to use it to defend some millionaire who thinks he is above the law.
Arroyo @ 93:
Jackson is Black?
Arroyo @ 87:
timmm @ 95:

Truth be told, Vick was in the middle of shit so deep, they threw out the airport tape. No matter how it's sliced, what want on was more-than-extremely phucked up.
However, looking at the matter from the view of the NFL over the last few years, you have Ray Lewis with a dead body to his credit and no time served (his friends did it for him). You have the idiot who killed his pregnant girlfriend and hid in the trunk of mommy's car. You have an idiot with ten police events including shots fired through the door of a club. You have assaults, guns inserted into women, various drug offenses including sales and distribution, even assaults on police.
these NFL players get the best and most of what society has. the opportunities they get and squander are tremendous. and some of them smoke away, piss away, shoot away, smack away their pot-o-gold. Maybe Vick might be sentenced more harshly than a white would, but I really think that he will be treated more harshly because he squandered his celebrity and good will along with 200 million dollars.
As I see the sidelines of the atlanta game and I see the kids whose parents paid $70+ for a Vick jersey, I'm thinking that they now want to knock his dick off.
pissed off patricia @ 20:
Thank you, p.o.p. Certain commenters didn't seem to understand that people "can be deeply bothered by two things at once" a while back when Mitt Romney was in the news for the way he treated his dog. I realize the magnitude of the two offences is vastly different, but then the perpetrators are very different too. One wants to be POTUS. I wish a few more users of this website could understand the importance showing compassion to other species.
Michael Vick says he is taking full responsibility for the mistakes he has made. What mistakes? Did he put those dogs together in the ring by mistake? Did he drown that dog my mistake? Why doesn't he take responsibility for deliberately committing deplorable acts of cruelty. He didn't make mistakes. He knew what he was doing.
Someone mentioned it up top, but it's worth repeatin':
Vick will receive a lifetime ban, but not fer the charges to which he's pleadin' guilty.
He'll be banned fer the gamblin' involved with the dog fights.
Leonard Little killed someone while drivin' drunk. He plead to manslaughter and played again. Jamaal Lewis was involved in a drug deal. Did his time, played again. (These incidents, I must point out, happened while Paul Tagliabue was the Commissioner of the NFL. Roger Goodell, the new Commissioner, has set a new tone with the suspension last year of Tank Johnson and this years suspension- before any investigations were completed- of PacMan Jones.)
Art Schlichter gambled. He got banned fer life. This is what will happen to Vick. Doesn't matter that whether or not he bet on NFL games. The league is worried that anyone who gets involved with bookies is liable to be forced , at some point, to fix a game in resolution of a gamblin' debt.
To paraphrase Gordon Gekko.'Wasps love animals, they hate people''.Alot of people who would knee-jerkedly and automatically support Vick are gonna have a hard time getting behind a dog torturer/killer.
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT HIM BEING BANNED FOR LIFE FROM FOOTBALL because HE DOES EMPLOY A LOT OF PEOPLE and I certainly can't employ them myself. While what he did is sick; jail and fines should be more than sufficient. His career shouldn't be taken away from him. I have seen football players at crack parties and involved in the lost of HUMAN life get less of a hassle than this guy. It just seems like people have it out for him and at the same time he doesn't seem smart enough to keep a low profile. Which is hard in his career but still, it seems every little thing he does or says is always being criticized so he should have known they were coming for him and remained as professional as possible. Everyone can't get the free pass Brent, Marino's crack head self and others receive. I just find it a little perplexing how more people are pissed off over this while blatant criminal behavior is being done at the highest levels of gov and not a soul has done any time yet. Heck, we haven’t mass protested or rioted in the streets even as they take a crap on the Constitution. No one lost their careers over these gov scandals’; in fact we can assume their careers will improve in one way or another and these people steal millions and kill hundreds of thousands. The priorities of this country are insane to me. Give Mr. Vick 10 lashes, 100k fine and 6-18 months in jail and move on.
Vick is getting what he deserves. Hopefully, Goodell bans him forever. Let him go make a living mucking out stables or cleaning cages at the zoo. But let's not forget about the rich man's version of the "sport" of dog fighting: canned hunts. Just like what our brave vice president, BigDick Cheney, engages in. The "wild game" this turd likes to hunt are birds whose wings were clipped and can't fly more than a few feet off the ground. Or the disgusting "trophy hunts" that consist of exotic animals in a pen, stalked by some thumb-dicked "professional", usually a doctor, lawyer, engineer, or some great captain of industry, who wants a mantle for his McMansion.
BaScOmBe-
As I see the sidelines of the atlanta game and I see the kids whose parents paid $70+ for a Vick jersey, I’m thinking that they now want to knock his dick off.
Fans on the sidelines at a Falcons game? Game must not be in Atlanta, 'cause no one shows up there unless a team is in the middle of a 6+ game winnin' streak. On the whole, worst sports fans in the country!
Good. I hate football.
My pit bull Boomer would like to have a "word" with this fella.
Sherri’ @102-
Involved in gamblin'= banned from the NFL fer life.
HE DOES EMPLOY A LOT OF PEOPLE...
Yeah, like his cousin' who helped run his "kennel". And it's kinda ironic how so many active athletes who "employ" anyone outside of an agent and some domestic staff find themselves, at the time of their retirement, flat-ass broke. For every successful businessman like Magic Johnson there are three Kareem Abdul Jabaars beggin' fer a shot at coachin' their ways back into wealth. Sad, but true.
Veritas78 @ 105:
Good fer you! There have been 13 other threads posted today that have absolutely no connection to football or any other sports. Have a field day!
Sherri' @ 102:
Once again, Sherri, we have room for more than once outrage at once. If you have ever been to this site, you'd know that most posters here want the entire Bush Administration and all its cronies cooling their heels in a jail cell doing 20-life. But this a Michael Vick thread, see? MICHAEL VICK THREAD.
And I doubt many people "have it out" for Vick. I'd being willing to bet the majority of folks would like to see 1) a talent (debatable, but not the topic of this thread) like his playing for years to come and 2) for all THOSE DOGS HE BRUTALLY MURDERED to be alive and chasing butterflies in a field, ok? Try to imagine what he did: dogs are pretty simple and loyal creatures. The last thing they experienced was pain, confusion, terror and maybe betrayal, but they certainly had no idea why their masters were killing them. THAT is what people are outraged about.
You want to see outrage for the rest? Visit a few Gonzo or Bush threads, and you'll get your fill, believe me!
Welcome! The water is fine.
Just goes to show, money buys you nothing.
Once a scumbag, always a scumbag.
Hope this filth enjoys prison.
And I certainly hope the NFL bans his sorry ass forever.
timmm @ 94:
Oh my god, what was I thinking. My bad.
Michael Vick is now off my Xmas list ( LOL, like he was ever on it before )
Arroyo @ 111:
How predictable , the old bringing down the successful black man reaction.Michael Vick pleaded guilty so I have to believe he did some pretty awful things in this case. Please save your race factor for someone more deserving of it and not this guy who probably would'nt piss on you if you were on fire.He made his bed He's gotta lie in it
paul g knox @ 113:
As a matter of fact, if we're going to talk about the race factor, then if anyone should be the most angry at Vick, it should be people in the black community.
I personally don't care one way or the other who or what this asshole is.
All I know is that he's a scumbag I wouldn't let mow my lawn.
Dr. Matt @ 7:
The NFL Europe is out of business. The CFL is his only hope, and I think the reception he'd get up there would be colder than he'd get back in the NFL.
Bonkers @ 109:
this scumbag needs a few yrs in prison being bubbas bitch!
Gollum@90...you could not be more wrong about this. Vick is a professional dogfighter who didn't simply fight dogs. He flat out tortured some of these poor dogs. His larger charge which is conspiracy to commit interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and to sponsor a dog in an animal-fighting venture. On the Travel Act portion of the conspiracy charges, he faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The dogfighting charges carry a possible sentence of one year in prison, a $100,000 fine or both. This has absolutely nothing to do with him being black or rich. If anything, this has to do with him being sick and twisted. Vick certainly possesses a thirst for violence and killing. The man needs help before he decides to move beyond dogs.
tyree @ 116:
HAW! I love it, tyree: Right to the point!
+1 for Vick in jail!
Why the competing outrage? Abu Ghraib, Iraq, Michael Vick and factory farming can all be outrages. They are all heinous. Someone expressing outrage over Vick isn't saying that they don't care about anything else, they're just expressing outrage over Vick. They may EVEN be expressing outrage regardless of his race or status in life. Sure, they wouldn't know anything about him if he weren't in the NFL, but I'm glad that his fame brought this case to the attention of the public. Some posters think that no one can walk and chew gum at the same time...we're too used to the Bush administration...
This just in, this isn't political.
Or do we just give a shit about cute things?
[Your "concern" is duly noted -- Sitemonitor]
Why don't you D'bags wait for the case to hit the court first.
TheMattressMan @ 122:
say you mean douchbags ? douchwad
tyree @ 123:
hes allready coped a plea ,that help yah pea brain!
tyree @ 124:
I think he missed the title line: "Michael Vick Pleads Guilty"

Vick= the lowest life form....how someone can do that to an animal....is disgusting.....but hey...he can go to church and pray for forgiveness and everything will be OK...
mudshark @ 126:
Most religions have condoned or promoted the lousy treatment of animals for centuries. The fatted calf, lambs to the slaughter, cats declared as Satanic by one Pope, man's dominion over the earth and it's creatures, etc. just to name a few examples.
HE HE HE!
Unfortunately, Mr. Vick will get another chance. When someone does something considered "unforgivable" nowadays, his or her name is in the news gaining notoriety and fame, and after the scandal has died down the name is still a draw. Who thought Ollie North would ever be in the spotlight again after Iran Contra? Mr. Vick will be able to cash in somehow after all of this is over, perhaps in a way no one can foresee right now. Shame and remorse are rare commodities in today's celebrities.
Anyone plan on spending more money on the National Felons' League? These types (Pacman, Tank, Vick) are human beings, who deserve compassion, BUT NOT TONS OF MONEY! I am not going to sit in judgment of Michael Vick (until I walk a mile in his shoes), but he deserves his punishment (because he essentially confessed), and he deserves that which is coming to him. Too late to do anything about that. But for God's sake, when will the public say enough to the system that enriches criminals? Yes, this could be any number of things... but everyone who knew what these guys were doing, everyone who knows what is going on now that hasn't been exposed, they are all complicit in this. Screw the NFL. Go support your local high school team. Probably no dog murderers there...
His NFL career is indeed ruined (at least it BETTER be). He'll have to resort to the European or Canadian league after he gets out of jail.
MamaLynn @ 10:
They should offer him a choice: jail time or five minutes naked in a cage with one of his dogs and some steak sauce on his nuts. Fuck him.
I sure can't defend this guy as much as I love dogs, it is painful to hear that he would engage in that kind of torture, however this young man is a good example of how the law is supposed to work for everyone that commits a crime.
They have no problem spewing him all over the media 24/7 , yet we have these criminals dressed in suits that are running our government that seem to somehow be privileged enough to get pass the same laws that is going to just throw the book at this guy.
As much as I love dogs and animals, I love people more and the ones that are getting away with hurting people in this country really need the kind of attention we have focused on this young man, on their asses.
This is a real problem in this country for all of us and we need to come to terms with it.
A couple things, if I may.
1. No way I would buy those jerseys to sell on Ebay. I'm poor but proud. He's not even worth exploiting.
2. Vick is done. Big difference between him and PacMan.
Most of PacMan's victims were people. People don't have advocates. Animals do. And they are FIERCE.
Sushi and Yebisu....(sigh) 1 more week until vacation. 1. more. week.
What a total piece of Shit. Disgusting excuse for a human being.
Gods only know what he is getting away with that will never be
told. No sympathy for this type of creature, None. Any one that
thinks he is cool, needs locked up with him.
If a Pro Team picks him up after
Prison, then they condone the behavior.
No big surprise there. Anything for a buck.
D-Bag Wrote: Why don’t you D’bags wait for the case to hit the court first.
What Court? You actually think there will be a trial? Oh Christ thats a rich one.
Leave us all a message when the trial starts Einstein.
Trucker Doug @ 115:
You should've seen the knee-jerk reactions when Ricky Williams went up to play in the CFL with the Argonauts. And he was only suspended by the NFL for smoking pot. Joe Theismann went apeshit over it and it even prompted a rule to be enacted barring suspended NFL players from joining the CFL.
Vick's career is effectively over. He's a poison pill at this point.
If only we could put an end to all of US Football.
What an SOB! How can you think that its cool to abuse these animals for fun! I'm glad that the justice system can kick Vic's enormous ego down a notch
If only we could put an end to all of US Football.
Yeah, if only we could spend Sundays watching a 5 1/2 hour soccer game with the final score being 1-0.
If Michael Vick is a villain, so is everyone on here who consumes animal products derived from the torture and poisoning of other innocent animals. If you drink the milk from a cow, why not from a dog? Double standards galore.
[Give us a break. However, your "concern" is duly noted -- Sitemonitor]
It just goes to show; you can have it all but still find a disturbingly dumbassed way to well, fuck it all up! Have fun in jail dog killer. And to the posters who cry double standard between a Big Mac and dog fighting, keep smoking that stuff, it must be really good.
Jimmy D. @ 141:
Meat is Murder and Murder goes great with large fries and a coke.
And all of those vegans and vegitarians who rave to me about how veggie burgers taste just like hamburgers aren't living a double standard how, exactly?
seriously, what is 250k to this guy? pretty much the same as $250 is to you or I.
The NFL better not take this guy back, that will open a giant can of worms for them. I hope his career is ruined furthermore by a shanking in prison, and when he is let out he finds that he is pretty much worthless with anything else. Ostracized by the sport and friends, and an injury that sets him up only to do menial, low paying jobs.
I'd love to see a documentary in 20 years on this POS where he is an emaciated version of himself, sucking on a crackpipe & living on the street hustling blowjobs to support his habit, talking about how great he could have been.
Only to have the documentary end by the homeless Vick mauled & killed in his piss scented-cardboard box home by a pack of roving, rabid pitbulls.
fuck 'em.
I find this all hilarious--One foolish rich guy screws over several rich people and a bunch of fans of a game that I love but I do understand is ultimately stupid.
Meanwhile--every hypocrite out there manages to excuse animal extermination, animal cruelty and animal enslavement...while suggesting that the "poor" dogs are completely innocent--a completely wishy washy concept.
No one on this board can explain why its ok to hold a "pet" hostage and force it to tie its existence to another creature for no good reason--or to manipulate the generic evolution of dogs to the point where they cant survive without being domesticated in some cases. Somehow thats completely ok.
Ive seen dogs kill each other and maim people. Ive eaten dog and not thought twice about it. They are no different than any other animal.
If dogfighting is so bad and dogs are so important and innocent--then ban pet ownership. Because it is slavery since we are so evolved and have the capacity of reason.
Either we do the right thing for all animals or who cares? But I refuse to split hairs over which animals are cool to kill and which arent.
[Your "concern" is noted -- Sitemonitor]
Pete @ 3:
Ah, yes, the ol' "Oh, yeah! What about this, that and the other guy or thing or whatever attempt to rationalize and excuse reprehensible, criminal behavior by citing reprehensible criminal behavior on the part of another individual, entity or organized criminal activity like, oh, say, Tony snow-job and the organization and viewpoints he's an apologist for" song and dance.
Gee, who coulda seen that comin'.
Like Chris Rock, I'm a hell of a lot more concerned with al cracker than al qaeda. Who needs al qaeda when you've got e-coli.
Hey, pal, I read "The Jungle" in HS, too. I see the news and I read the papers and I know just how much the Meat Packing Industry hates that book and the so-called over-regulation it inspired and just how much the gops would like to help their ranger and pioneer posse and how little they give a damn about the non-pioneer and ranger people of this Country and yada, yada, yada.
This just in. Two wrongs don't make a right. Read it. Learn it. Live it.
cal5k @ 145:
is it true they taste like chicken? and whats you oppinion on the taste of human flesh?
i have serious doubts this will happen (lifetime ban). leonard little killed a man drunk driving and has had mulitple alcohol related legal issues. he still plays and is still cheered. granted vick is a celebrity and little is known only in football circles so that may lead to a stronger stance by the league, but it's not in their interest to keep him out.
Leonard's killing a man was not an intentional, viscious act like Vick's was. Leonard made a mistake (driving drunk) that ultimately cost someone their life. People can understand and forgive this a lot easier than they can the actions of someone like Vick. I will be very disappointed if the NFL tacitly condones his actions by allowing him to play in the NFL again. Playing in the NFL is a privilege that many, many other law abiding players out there would love to be able to do. They should not open a slot for someone like Vick.
Wow, I really messed that quote up huh? lol.
Carmikl @ 99:
Agree 100%.
Jeff @ 143:
Let me end this ridiculous claim of veggie burgers tasting like meat being a 'double standard' once and for all (like THAT'LL happen...) Since the US population is encouraged to eat meat 24-7 with Wendy's, Mcdonalds, BK on every corner, not to mention the beef lobby, most peoples' initial experience is associated with meat-taste burgers. Lest I point out that this "taste" is now created routinely in a lab, along with McD's fries which uses subtle meat-taste additive as well. The idea is twofold..1.) Since the public is accustomed to eating burgers, make an alternative (yes, that tastes similar to the product you're seeking to supersede) that doesn't kill animals. 2.) The taste can reflect the public's conditioning by tasting like meat, but also offering alternatives made with the same ingredients which also doesn't kill animals. It's a logical course of action to wean the public off of an industry deemed by some to be an exceedingly cruel corporate institution.
It's not rocket science...er, unless you're talking about the meat-'taste.'
