Colbert vs. Colbert on Terrorism
Responding to Freakonomics author Steven Levitt's provocative NYT Op-Ed, Colbert faces off against the only person he knows for sure is not in al Qaeda: Himself.

Colbert Vs. Colbert
Okay
Anyone else gag on the supposed new home sales numbers created and released yesterday by the government?
Colbert keeps me sane during the dark days of the junta
Looks like soaked and flooded Midwest-Ohio is going to be joining the soup lines.

"Americans right now basically fall into two categories: Judeo-Christian Zionist Capitalist Right Wingers and Joe Average Worker-Bee Liberals. (I use the word "liberal" in it's true meaning from the French Labor Movement of the 1850's; someone who supports "liberal" rights for the working class) Both groups are VERY passionate, however. The first group is fighting feverishly to protect its entitlements, while the second group is so overwhelmed at the evil that's befallen this country, courtesy of first group, that it doesn't know where to start."
Not a bad take on things. Not at all.
Freakanomics Comment #581 by Robert (comments closed off at #594) nails it.
“Americans right now basically fall into two categories: Judeo-Christian Zionist Capitalist Right Wingers and Joe Average Worker-Bee Liberals."
All overgeneralizations basically fall into two categories: those which divide the world into two categories and those that don't.
7:28 a.m. PDT? Do you just jump out of bed with these stereotypes on the tip of your tongue? Maybe you need to get out more, say in the south, where you would meet millions of Judeo Christian Joe Average Worker Bee Right Wingers. Even near you in Hollywood I am told one might find quite a few Liberals who aren't exactly Joe Average Worker Bees.
Go back to sleep.
Hilarious! Of course, now I'll never be able to ride an escalator without thinking about the pile of headless bodies that awaits me at the top.

There are 10 types of people in this world: those who understand binary and those who don't. :D
Levitt did not write an OpEd for the NYTimes. Please fix that part of your post. The Freakonomics blog has been in existence for a long time. It was only recently that the NYT added the Freakonomics blog to its lineup. By the way, most of the people that responded to the Levitt post were morons.

I like Colbert, but this bit is weak. They should not re-use it.
Thanks BaSCOrnBe, I sent him a note. Not that it detracts from the gist of John's post, just wanted to keep it accurate.

Actually, this isn't the first time he did "Colbert vs. Colbert".
Here's a suggestion for Levitt's open request for nifty terror ideas:
Start a conservative TV Network and a whole bunch of loud, ignorant right-wing radio shows. Hire talking heads and 'reporters' who distort, mistate and shoot down any fact that conflicts with their fear-mongering, pro-war agenda. Invoke 9/11 and terror at every possible opportunity to maintain public fear and enable the destruction of constitutional liberties.
Ooops!! I forgot! Somebody already did this.
. . . .
Whatever . . .
This has to make even the most neoconservative giggle. At least he will do it out of the view of the rest of the kool-aid drinkers.
...greatest living human!
I's a feared.
Why economists should not be in charge of anything having to do with human society.
Colbert - humourous. Not his best bit, but funny. If Levitt is such a "freakin'" brilliant economist, why doesn't his put his amazing talent to work solving a few monumental problems in the economic sphere, insread of creating monumental problems in terror sphere??!! There is no dearth of things for him to apply his brain to: trade pacts, SPP, tax issues and inequities, money supply, credit, theft by corporation, etc, etc., etc.
The article is lame and not worth the paper it's printed on.
This is great stuff. "There's only so much poop that can fit in our national pants."
Ain't that the truth.
Ummm.... that's pretty stupid! Doesn't Levitt realize that having an idea for a terrorist attack is now legally the same as committing a terrorist attack. At least according to the bush administration, the (in)Justice Department, and some rather confused judges.
