This is off topic but needs more exposure-

I found these articles in today's Miami Herald. Both smell rotten-

Both need more exposure

First The US House of Rep. is refusing to cooperate with the FDLE in releasing emails from Mark Foley's office computer:

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/florida/story/214781.html

Second-

Another closeted gay in the high ranks of the GOP- This time involved in a triple homicide/murder/suicide-

Protege of Ralph Reed-

Talk about on fire -- here's a Daily Show-type Report Card on Iraq.

Kudos to Jon and Rob. The left has to work twice as hard to look half as good at supporting the troops.

It ain't right, it ain't fair, but it's true.

One of the worst legacies of Vietnam is that the people who didn't want our soldiers and marines to be getting killed or injured for bogus reasons were perceived to be anti-military.

I have a sense of humor ... but Jesus Christ ... could we please have a little more of the good ol' timey humor of days past - like say, linchings, murdering black school kids, burning churches ... I know ... using a hurricane to capture hundreds of thousands of uppity blacks and holding them in katrina kare kamps.

Come on John. Maybe send someone to Poland to play in a field with a couple drums of Zyklon B. Wouldnt it be a hoot to bake bread in an oven at Auschwitz?

Stewart and Colbert are beginning to smell. Take the micky out of Lindsy Lohan, there is no micky in Either Bush or Iraq.

I'm not a big fan of people that kill people. You support them. I'll support those that want to help people not kill them.

I'm a fan of civil society (which the US is not).

those guys at mail call did not look happy....and the story about running out of bullets...just more evidence that this admin is fubar.......How can you have a war with no Bullets?..Do you think that pisses off the troops when they tell them not to fire their weapon as much because they don't have enough bullets..........

Yet another vacuous entry from the Daily Show in Iraq. I am surprised that the kind of venom they bring to bear on most matters has been completely absent from their reports in Iraq. "How much I like shooting shit?" isn't cheap pandering to the pro-war crowd? You are not a humor program Daily Show, you are a satire program, which means you supposed to MOCK stuff, not do silly gags about mail call and scrubbing an airplane with a toothbrush.

Ali Eteraz: Check your satire monitors. Or did you miss the pointe of that whole "How much I like shooting shit" routine, namely, the report that Police Departments in the US are saying they are lacking ammunition?

For that matter, Rob Riggle wasn't just there for the Daily Show, but also to entertain the soldiers, right?

Isn't Riggle's shtick to be a mock kool-ade baptised, MSM embedded, jock / military type reporter? I think that's satire. Sort of like the Tick as a superhero.

# 8. I didn't know he was there to entertain soldiers.

#9. Good point.

junk mail........those poor bastards......they did not look happy......I hope they got the joke.

That AP story that our wars has caused a domestic ammo shortage is bogus, but the way. And I didn't need to read Confederate Yankee to know that. When the new NASA moon mission contract was awarded to ATK a couple of weeks ago, I looked-up ATK to see what else they did. It turns out they are one of the largest -if not the largest- ammunition manufacturers in the world, turning out over a billion cartridges each year.

http://www.atk.com/Customer_Solutions_AmmunitionSystems/cs_as_default.asp

See we liburls know our ammo, too.

Rob Riggle is a Major in the Marine Reserves. I don't think he's going to walk into a FOB in Baghdad and make jokes about how troops are wasting their time in Iraq to troops that still have to be their for 10-15 more months.

Right. I know I said this yesterday, but, again, he made this point during an interview with NPR this week. In a lot of cases, he asked soldiers if they'd be willing to participate in the satire bits for the Daily Show. His point in being in Iraq as part of the USO was simply to give them a chance to laugh--knowing, as they do, how grave their situation is, they took him up on it.

He also said he was very aware that he could be called up at any time.

Off topic...Micheal Ware was just on......telling it like it is.....Iran is up to their eyeballs in Iraq...this ain't pretty...boosh is such a dumbass.

Part of this is bullshit.

The Kurds in the north have been calling western Iran kurdistan as well as southeastern Turkey. The kurds have also been inciting problems in both western Iran (protests by kurds in the western provincial capital resulting in the seat of government there being attacked and damaged) as well as in south eastern Turkey.

In my opinion both Iran and Turkey have cause to retaliate. You can actually read more about this by reading kurdish news online. They arent shy about calling parts or Iran and Turkey kurdistan. They are provacateurs. The problem is the MSM simply isnt reporting this. I suspect that includes Ware - your fair haired boy.

Geez.......I read all the comments above but I'm not quite what the consensus is? Honestly, did you expect some sort of serious report????

In my opinion, this was a funny skit; especially the mail call bit. Rob Riggle is very funny.

You mean this story wasn't true?

US forced to import bullets from Israel as troops use 250,000 for every rebel killed.

It from 2005, but it still shows that the troops are seriously short of equipment. Last I heard the depots were full of equipment that needed to be repaired. Also it wasn't that long ago that military bases couldn't pay their electric bill. All resources are going to Iraq, including Reserve and Guard equipment.

Or maybe it's just going into that new hole in the universe.

funny

very funny

heh...

US running short of ammo? How anti-American.

So you want our troops to get injured or killed? That's very "civil"ized.

Our troops didn't choose to go to war, they were sent. Most of them are just scared kids who want to come home.

They enlisted to protect out country, not to protect George Bush's "legacy."

I will be alright if all the scenes where the soldiers appeared agitated by Rob's presence (e.g. suggesting he just drop the live tank shell, fooling around with comms equipment and the junk mail scene) was staged, with Rob telling the soldiers what he is doing and what to expect and how to respond.

I admit cringing at times at what Rob was doing because I give all my respect to the men and women in uniform.

I guess that nullifies my worries in the previous post. Maybe Rob Riggle would be better off being called up to keep the troops happy doing what he is good at. At least that would keep them from needing psychiatric treatment, something this administration is unable to provide.

"My taint is as raw as steak tartar." Man, if I had a nickel for ever time I've said that.

You realize how many takes they probably had to do to get those? Not only were the troops participating, they were dedicated. And out in the hot sun.

As popular as the Daily Show is, they'll have bragging rights for decades.

And Kudos to Rob for going in. At around 130 degrees it couldn't have been that easy to be funny.

That is Bush logic. We are there, so now what? Weak.

At Nuremburg, the germans attempted to evade personal responsibility on the basis that they were following orders. The US equivalent is I was just doing my job. The are the same in my opinion. They are in the military to kill. The argument that they are protecting the US is falacious. Good relations and diplomacy goes much further in protecting the US than hiring 19 year old killers.

Do I want them to be hurt? What answer do you expect here? They are killers who are:

1) NOT protecting the US
2) Killing people in a country they invaded
3) NOT taking personal responsibility (... doing my job ... falls on deaf ears just like at Nuremburg) or they are taking personal responsibility and they are killers.

If I invaded your home (home invasion), what would your position be? What if someone told me to do that? What if I wouldnt leave? None of that matters. I ... personally ... would be responsible for committing a crime. If someone else told or hired me to do it, they are guilty as well BUT I am not absolved. Invading your home is a crime. Invading Iraq is also a crime - a crime based on international law and as a consequence of US treaties and the constitution a federal US crime as well.

I support the troops that did the moral thing and didnt participate in this criminal enterprise. The reset are just as responsible for the crimes as Bush, Cheney, Rice, Powell, Gonzales, Rumsfeld and more.

They have the option of NOT participating. They have chosen either to participate because they agree or to participate as the lessor of two evils. If they are in either category, I dont support them. All else is cliche in my opinion.

I hope Rob gets his own show

I don't really give a fuck about these lame ass clips from the daily show. yaaaay. more embedding with the troops. who gives a fuck about the american troops? i don't. they have a choice, to serve or not to serve and therefore pay the consequences. fuck the troops.

29 thanks for feeding the right wing machine.

OT: Reuters is reporting that Baghdad is now under and indefinite vehicle curfew due to some religious festival next week.
So a city of millions is now without cars.

No water, no electricity and now no way to get to a market without walking down streets patrolled by armed US troops and militants.

Could it get any worse for the innocent people in Iraq?

Ummm.....The Daily Show is severely lacking in funny correspondents. I respect Riggles credentials, but, ahh, he's just not funny. Or satirical. I'm funnier.

What scares the crap out of me is how bigger, stronger and scarier Rob Riggle looks compared to other soldiers.
Yes I do know he was in the marines but damn.

Absolutely right!!!

This Rob Riggle thing from Iraq was a very stupid idea. Entertain the troops -- fine. But leave the cable viewers out of it. Sorry, I don't find embedded reporters -- fake or real -- that funny.

Exactly why he shouldn't be doing this on the daily show. (not that he should tell this particular joke when he's in the studio).
