News Hounds: Hannity, Colmes, Coulter, (and the most ineffectual Democrat spokesman of all time) OR 'Maybe These Relentless Neopundit Attacks on Edwards Merit Giving Him a Second Look'

Via Andrew Sullivan, Matthew Dessem on The Ancient Art of Making Lists

I'm from Bristol, so I know from whence the Monkey speaks.

Dems: Why be so skittish at the mention of terror? H/T Sandy.

This is the very first review of David Lynch's 'Inland Empire' that bothers to focus on what the movie actually looks like. Thank you, Dennis Lym, for focusing.

Winding out the week...

For my money, there is no better MSM blog for tips on under-reported and/or context-free news than Dan Froomkin's White House Watch (even though Dan takes more time off than the president). His latest piece is The Lost Year.

I would be remiss if I didn't share this link to the Comic Curmudgeon, the site that I always reward myself with after a hard day of slaving over a hot keyboard. Today, Zippy spirals downward and The Shocker just stands there.

And of course, a shout out to my fellow Aristocrats - Sandy, Paul, and Blue Gal. (Oops, sorry ya bastidz, I just ran out of links).

Guest blogged by Mark Hoback of The Aristocrats.

UPDATE from Blue Gal: Mike his own self returns tomorrow, after the female Crooks and Liars staffers check him jealously for Joe Cocker groupie hickeys. We hear the "Hymn 4 My Soul" European Tour was amazing! (But we're glad to have you home, Mike honey.)

Whats the Preznit's dayoff count up too?...is it 500 yet...his day off count looks like a home run record.

I've been seriously watching the Edwards campaign. Some people say that the repugs fear Edwards more than any other leading candidate. They know that he would be impossible to beat even if they fix the election.

John Edwards has been attacked by both Reichwingers and Left. He (and Kucinich) will make real changes. Thus both left and reich are fearful of him.

Thus the "haircut" attack when the $2000 make-up job of Romney barely makes the 2:00 am news.

Thus attacks against Edwards for his vote authorizing bush - rather than recognition for his vote against funding gain traction.

Thus growing up poor and earning his wealth goes unnoticed while his career as a "trial lawyer" gets press and comments from "people" like tucker carlson and ann coulter.

I'll support John Edwards unless and until someone else is nominated.

Re: NASCAR and Bristol

One of my father's friends lived in Bristol, and we'd go to his cottage during the early summer growing up (in the mid-1980's). It seemed like such a nice quaint town, so I can see how it sucks having a NASCAR track smacked near there.

Fun NASCAR fact: because the cars engines' need leaded fuel to burn off the fuel more completely, a typical NASCAR race pumps about 50 kg (110 pounds) of lead into the air. A recent EPA study showed that 40% of the people in a typical NASCAR crew has elevated levels of lead in their blood.

i don't get it. if obama is so fucking "rock star" popular why is he losing?

Gregory's picture

NASCAR is so popular because it combines the redneck's two favorite races.... auto and white.

Hurricane Katrina's destruction and New Orleans drowning wasn't reason enough to interrupt one of his many vacations but something else was: A court ordered removal of the feeding tube keeping braindead Terri Schaivo alive. To stop that action the Dumbass in Chief flew overnight back to D.C. probably because Jesus, the same Jesus who told him to invade Iraq, wanted to preserve Schaivo's sad, vegetable like existence. Or maybe he did it for the same phony political reasons he does everything: pandering to his holy roller, extremist base.

Me too. Edwards has support in the south, does not have the polarizing negatives of Senator Clinton and will not be affected by voter prejudice (unlike Senator Obama). He is the Democratic candidate most likely to win the Presidency against any Republican nominee.

The GOP machine, always more more unified and generally more effective than its opposition, recognized this some time ago - which is why there have been an unrelenting series of attacks on Edwards in the MSM and why there was virtually no coverage of his recent travels among America's most impoverished.

the ABC sunday morning shitathon was a perfect example of manipulation, favoring Hillary as preemptive nominee with Obama as the unseasoned candidate and Edwards as the guaranteed-failure-as-populist. The fix is already in to run Hillary to give the repugs a media-generated chance to win the next election. I can't wait for LIEberman to officially switch parties UNLESS the repugs feel he should remain a democrat so he can continue to destroy the party from within.

that 'debate' was proof of the later HuffPo headline that Hil has cemented the in-the-beltway democrat support.

too bad the DLC thinks the people should not have a say. Hillary is spouting many of harold ford's talking points now and she's getting bolder with it also.

so I registered Democratic to vote against every DLC I encounter.

You said NASCAR. :-(

I escaped Johnson City 2 years ago and am currently enjoying the Blue State vibes of Portland, OR. Now I've gone and broke out in hives at the N name.

FYI, Yahoo news.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ucrr/faithdopesandsecrecy;_ylt=AiMzht5o0jWDmlG1c...

CIA has been forced to declassify the summary of an investigation by its own inspector general saying that 50 or 60 agents and officials had a great deal of information as early as January 2000 that might have prevented the carnage of Sept. 11, 2001.

The 19 pages, finally and grudgingly released more than two years after they were written, are devastating, confirming suspicions that the National Security Agency refused to give the Central Intelligence Agency transcripts of telephone conversations between al-Qaida conspirators, and the CIA did not tell the Federal Bureau of Investigation that two of those conspirators were in the United States.

I've always been amazed at the attention and care the neocon's as Hannity and sidekick Coulter et al give to Democratic capaigns and their candidates.

They will spend more air time on Democrts and trying to help the (the illusion) than putting the Republican candiates on air to dicuss hoow great they are. I guess they have nothing to put on the air that is great.

They want to play the "other guy is so bad so vote aganst him by voting for me".

Sorry, I think most American's are going to vote for someone this round, not against someone as the Bush team created against Kerry and Gore. That has alot to do with the two America's John Edwards speaks of.

Batocchio's picture

I had to stop watching the Faux News segment with the Faux Dem who's a Richardson supporter ostensibly on to defend Edwards. It's a standard ploy by Fox, but still nausea-inducing.

Great stint, Mark, and Froomkin should be part of everybody's daily weekday reading (although he's off until 9/4).

And welcome back, Mike!
