None of the media outlets seem to want to remind the public that the FBI tried to trick Richard Jewell into signing a false confession. It's like our collective consciousness wants to forget that the FBI would do such a thing. Heavens, that might make someone question the techniques being used today to extract confessions. Somehow it's unpatriotic to remind people that the FBI has a history of such trickery.

While I don't think the stress of this reckless pursuit of news celebrity caused all of his problems, there's no doubt in my mind that it was a major contributor. All because reporters (once again) raced to grab gossip headlines.

Looks like Drudge is trying to cover up his lies again. I just checked and the only references to Richard Jewell are three news articles. Two are reports of his death and one is a notice about a memorial service. I can find no reference to his being murdered. Apparently to avoid rumors the Georgia Medical Examiner did an autopsy and is waiting for toxicology reports,
You would wish the rumor mongers would let the man alone. He had already been through so much. Then to be diagnosed with diabetes is a lot to suffer. Rest in peace.
