Mitch McConnell Press Conference: Al-Qaeda Baby!

mitchmcconnell.jpg Rep.Mitch McConnell, wants the US to stay in Iraq and the Middle East for-EVER and is hoping to garner bi-partisan support to achieve this end. (BushDogs unite!) He starts off with the usual "we're anxiously waiting for the Petraeus White House Report," routine for cover. Raise your hands if you don't know what it will say? Now let's ask Mitch how many more lives have been taken/destroyed and terrorists we've created by implementing Bush's immoral "Pre-emptive Doctrine?" That's what happens when this administration chose ideology over truth.

McConnell: "Those reports will be before the Congress next week..ugh..I think most of my members are actually interested in what the facts are. I don't think most of them have made up their minds before they get the reports and they're intensely interested in what's going to be in these two reports to Congress and I think that will largely determine where the majority of our members come out. And of course we haven't heard from the President either about what he thinks is the way forward. I can tell you what I would personally like to see if that's worth anything to you. I would like to see us with at least some level of bi-partisan agreement that we need a long term deployment somewhere in the Middle East in the future for two reasons...Al Qaeda and Iran. (full transcript below the fold)

And I hope that this reaction to Iraq and the highly politicized nature of dealing with Iraq this year doesn't end up in a situation where we just bring all the troops back home and there by expose us once again to the kind of attacks we've had here in the homeland or on American facilities.

Remember Al Qaeda attacked the World Trade Center in '93, they blew up our embassies in East Africa in '96, they blew a hole in the side of the US Cole in 2000 and killed over 3000 US citizens on 9-11. They were very much at war with us before we decided to go to war with them. Since we've been at war with them not a single successful attack here at home. So the question is regardless of how you feel about the state of things in Iraq at the moment what's the best way to protect the homeland, us here, civilians in America for the future and I think it involves at least some level of American troop deployment in that area of the world..."

Reporter: "In Iraq or.....?"

McConnell: "Well that would be up to the generals to recommend where the troops ought to be but I think we need to be in the neighborhood of where the biggest problem is so we can deal with it there and not have to deal with it here.

This guy is so far of a right wing-nut that it's pathetic. I wonder how many people actually believe and wish to follow his lead. Scary to watch these fat old men make decisions to kill the young.

Thompson said if we redeploy from Iraq the whole region would be nuclearized. WOW! All the Republican candidates practically look the same, talk the same, see things the same way. Even if something happened to the region before the election, I couldn't vote for this group of Republican candidates. America would be foolish to vote for someone identical to what we have had for almost 7 years. Any Dem is better than that.

Well Mitch, here's what I'd like to see. I'd like to see you and the rest of your ilk, shut the fu*k up. You know damned well what bush is going to tell the general to say. You know what the GAO, who doesn't have money on this match, has already said. So if all you have is lies, keep them to yourself.

I actually watched some of this live on C-span. His rhetoric drove me crazy and I had to shut off the tv. In many ways listening to him is more nerve grating than listening to bush.

It is as though all of the Republican candidates know something that we don't know. They are hyping Al-Quaida more than ever. No wonder Clinton wants to stay a smideon right of center. it seems as though she is there in the center just in case something happens or something is orhestrated ala Michael Moore's film "Farenheit 9/11. The video tape of the prez sitting in the classroom was not a safe enough place to hide from the eyes that wondered aloud what was really going on in our government that day.

American Arrogance at its best. Why would ANY country chose to allow an new American base on its soil after the way they have screwed up already.

Would/Does America allow other countries to have their military bases on US soil to protect their interests. Seems to me the US Biggest trading partners have interest in the US to protect,...

Can Canada, Mexico, or China have a military base on US soil to protect their interests hmmm?

Isn't the "don't make up your minds before the facts are in" shtick getting a little old? I'm still waiting to see if it is OK yet to pass judgement on whether Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. Did the "way forward" work? How about "the new way forward?" Nobody has given me a green light to pass judgement on those, either.

I guess if the surge doesn't work, the purge is next. (Actually the purge is going on right now of Sunnis in Baghdad.) Anything to keep time on the clock so that we can never pass judgement.

Weaseldog's picture

Maybe the report can be condensed into a glossy and snappy looking brochure?

Obviously our representatives aren't surprised that this report is going to be nothing but White House Whitewash. So they knew already, that they would base their position on the war, on White House Horsepucky.

Otherwise, how do we explain that so few reps are calling BS on this?

First it was the USSR, now it's Islam. The United States of America has been hijacked by the neoconservatives. They believe that in order to maintain a cohesive society, a perpetual myth needs to be enforced over and over, and that is, that the U.S. is fighting against evil in the world. Cheney wasn't joking when he said it might last 100 years. The NeoCons will do anything to keep fueling the fire.

"them" who does he mean ? the brown people ?, moron

And has he ever read the reasons they attacked on 9/11 ? it was because we had troops over there, they attacked us because we've been/are over there, how hard is this to figure out ? it's called BLOWBACK, and by occupying and bombing the middle east we're just giving them the ammo to attack again, Bin Laden himself told us that Bush hasn't squared with the American people the real reason 9/11 happned and so he has said thats the reason it will happen again.

solution ? = remove troops from holy lands instead of sending more.

Exactly what I have been saying since before the beginning of this occupation. If we go in to Iraq and remove Saddam, we will have to occupy the country and our troops will be viewed as imperialists and not liberators as we were told we would be. Republicans want us in Iraq FOREVER and they knew this from the start which is why they continue to link Iraq and the GWOT together. The sheep will follow blindly behind that assertion.

Andy, not only by sending in more troops but by building permanent bases in Iraq. We seem to be daring UBL to attack again.

Since his election, McConnell has proudly built a reputation on influence-mongering and the placing of self, partisan politics, and party above the welfare of the nation, its institutions, and citizens.

Al CIAda is the one size fits all enemy made for the endless war on terror. The Iraqis believe that we blew the Mosques up to start the civil war. There was an article in the LA Times a few months ago where the military had to admit that the number 2 Al Kida in Iraq that had been killed more than once and was really an actor.

Fake Al Qaeda

"Ana raicha Al Qaeda" is colloquial for "I'm going to the toilet". A very common and widespread use of the word "Al-Qaeda" in different Arab countries in the public language is for the toilet bowl. This name comes from the Arabic verb "Qa'ada" which mean "to sit", pertinently, on the "Toilet Bowl". In most Arabs homes there are two kinds of toilets: "Al-Qaeda" also called the "Hamam Franji" or foreign toilet, and "Hamam Arabi" or "Arab toilet" which is a hole in the ground. Lest we forget it, the potty used by small children is called "Ma Qa'adia" or "Little Qaeda".

So, if you were forming a terrorist group, would you call yourself, "The Toilet"?

Since the answer is "none" then excuse me if I don't accept his fact-free version of events.

The Surge has failed, as has been foretold by critics. Both civillian and military casualities are up. More and more Iraqs have been driven from their homes. The so-called "security improvements" the Resident Bush touts are pure and total lies. Security is demonstratably worse now. Anyone who says otherwise is either a deluded Tool or a fucking liar.

I have to agree with Mitch. We keep a force large enough to keep those dirty, stinking Arabs under control. Then when something happens in Asia, we send a bunch more of our troops over to tame the yellow monkeys. And if those pesky wetbacks in South America start something, we'll shock and awe 'em then leave a few thousand troops to keep Democracy on the march.

Great plan. The U.S. won't have a viable military left to deal with attacks at home and the Canadians can take over to restore some sanity in North America.

So you want to keep some level of our troops in the Middle East...and you say this because you feel it is better to have "them" in Iraq, as if that's where your oft mentioned "biggest threat" is actually coming from you damned oaf, but I digress... You would rather kill millions of Iraqi or Middle Eastern citizenry than have them over here, as if they will magically appear over here if we leave Iraq! Your point of 9-11 is lost entirely when you realize that Iraq had squat to do with it!

As for the inurgency...the majority are Iraqi, 93 to 98%! So who the hell is going to follow us home; as if three will be a horde of America haters marching over the sea to do damage with their weapons of desperation! Our military is USELESS to help us there. As far as Iran goes the best course of action is to slow down and contain them while we work out agreements. Iran is years away from any potential device so we should wait until we get rid of BUSH and his monumental fuckups before we do ANYTHING.
