Rep. John Doolittle (R) Aides Subpoenaed by Grand Jury

GOP Rep. John Doolittle's two top aides have been subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury investigating ties between Doolittle, his wife and jailed lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
The grand jury subpoenas from the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia were issued to Chief of Staff Ron Rogers and Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Blankenburg. They were announced on the House floor as Congress returned from its August recess Tuesday after the aides informed the House speaker about the subpoenas, as required under House rules.
Doolittle, R-Calif., said in a statement that the aides would testify before the grand jury this week "with hopes of putting the matter to an end."[..]
Doolittle has numerous ties to Abramoff, including accepting campaign cash from the lobbyist and intervening on behalf of Abramoff's Indian tribe clients. Doolittle considered Abramoff a good friend.
Abramoff's lobbying firm also paid Julie Doolittle's Sierra Dominion Financial Solutions Inc., a near-monthly $5,000 retainer from September 2002 to February 2004, mostly to work on a fundraiser that was canceled in March 2003. Sierra Dominion's records were subpoenaed by the Abramoff grand jury in 2004.

Seriously, though, I do wonder how long republican party apologists and media types can promote the false symmetry between the parties when it comes to this sort of thing. I'm sure that eventually another Democrat will come along and be accused of taking a bribe or dressing like a furry and getting down on a Friday night, and rightwingers will say, "See! Your guys are guilty too!"
Meanwhile, it's a wonderful gift from Craig if this very confused man drags this political nighmare for the Republicrites out!

Well shit Marie... that just guarantees that a non-GOP candidate will take that seat. If he just retired, there would've been at least a small chance that the GOP would run a somewhat viable candidate to take the seat.
According to the Sacramento Bee John Doolittle is THE most corrupt member of Congress.
Isn't it wonderful, another corrupt religious conservative Republican. He comes from that old time religion.
He comes from a background that says steeling from government and taxpayers is no crime and no sin.
He's a Tom Delay Republican. But, you say, 'Doolittle is so CLEAN CUT and talks like such a nice man'.

Just a friendly correction. Doolittle is from Northern California. Parts of Sacramento and the Lake Tahoe area are in his district.

Doolittle is actually practices a relatively "new" old-time religion...he's a Mormon. Regardless, I've had it with holier-than-thou types beating us over the head with their bibles, no matter what flavor it is!
Just pray that Doolittle doesn't resign.

Yes, Doolittle is a Mormon. "Under The Banner Of Heaven" by John Krakauer (who also wrote "Into The Wild" ) does not mention Doolittle
but after reading this book you will see the where and the why of John Doolittle as beyond crooked politician.

While his staff sings like the Vienna boys choir, Dolittle will be talking to Abramoff about helpful hints at the Fed penitentiary. Even by republican standards, this guy is scum.

I saw Herger at the N. California Vets Cemetery on Memorial Day. He, like almost every other Repug, took the opportunity to
turn a solemn occasion into another event where BushCo talking points about the link between Iraq and Terrorism could be linked. He makes me sick.
His name speaks volumes as to his output, but needs to trail off with the single word "good".

All of those news guys who parroted the line "the Democrats took just as much money from Abramoff as the Republicans" should revisit this story. Its only the republicans getting popped.

Sad thing is that the Congressman has sexual ethic lapses, i.e. same sex relations with young boys during his early 20\'s. However, Democratic candidates were too ethical (or too far behind) to make a campaign issue out of it.
