Mike's Blog Round Up
Watching Those We Chose: A forthcoming book by a former head of the Attorney General's Office of Legal Counsel tells of Cheney Chief of Staff and Counsel, David Addington, pining away for another terrorist bombing of the United States so that the Administration can grab more power and eviscerate the Fourth Amendment.
PERRspectives Blog: Bremer letters show Bush OK'd disbanding the Iraqi Army. So much for G-Dub's tall tale to Dead Certain biographer Robert Draper.
Veterans for Common Sense: In July, the Inspector General at the Department of Defense found several generals violated ethics rules for participating in the "Christian Embassy" fundraising and proselytizing video at the Pentagon during office hours among their subordinates. VCS has filed an ethics complaint against the VA's Daniel Cooper for his part in these violations.

War's been a slam-dunk, ain't it?
re. David Addington's "pining away".
It seems that last night Olbermann also thought that Addington was "pining". My take on what he said was that it was more a warning that it would take another bomb-like event to get rid of what the administration perceived as a roadblock to fully effective counter-terrorism surveillance, i.e. FISA. It's a bit fetched to think of the Whitehouse as Mordor.
Proves that Bush is simply a narcissistic confabulating retard, who lives in his own fantasy world. A moron so filled with his own bilious crap, that it is all one endless world of "perfect" for him and his pampered coterie of obsequious courtiers. His corruption is so deep, it is sociopathic and is only matched by his ignorance and callousness.
Watch the stock market. It's taking a beating.
Remember something bad is supposed to happen by the 21st, when the options contracts expire.
If you hadn't heard, some extremely rich person placed an extremely large bet that the Dow would drop by 25-30%.
Well imagine if Bush didn't disband the Iraqi army. We'd still be fighting them!
I heard on the BBC last night that Petrarus in an interview basically confirmed the idea that we run out of troops within the next couple of months. I wish I could find the story online, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere.
This should be fairly big news, I would have thought. Unless they start extending deployments (would the soldiers stand for that?) we have no choice but to end the surge.
What happens in Iraq is out of our control at this point -- it is really sickening to hear the politicans and generals talk about what we should do to remake the country, and if we just wait a little longer everything will be O.K. We bought some time in Anbar by giving the "insurgents" arms and money (I'm not making this up) so that they can fight the Shia militias (otherwise known as the Iraqi police) that we have been giving arms and money to.
It is like we have a fire engine full of gasoline that we are spraying onto a fire -- "but if we stop trying to fight the fire, it will get worse!"
If David Addington is "pining away," does that mean he has termites?
Curtilingus @ 4:
I wish someone would source that. It's the kind of thing that happened before september 11, 2001 (I believe it was put options, then) and the sec never really fully investigated it to my knowledge, even though I believe I remember that an investigation was announced.
I don't want to sound any more like Alberto Gonzalez, so I'll stop now.
Addington is one of the biggest scumbags in the administration, and that's saying something. He's extremely radical, but he's also smarter than many of the other scoundrels, making him more dangerous. He's an authoritarian bent on subverting the law, not upholding it.

and our views are only to be covered by the daily talking points
Michale Gordon (NYT) was on Charlie Rose last night. His explanation of this was the most convoluted claptrap. Of course Charlie Rose was polite, but my response was, "Okay, so if it wasn't one of their outright lies, it was one of their extraordinary f-ups. Explain the difference to the people on the ground."
You don't really need to have a host of facts and statistics to know that Iraq's a mess. Your own common sense will tell you all you need to know.
Regarding Republican's special friends: There was a hilarious interview, I think, with Alan Simpson during the Monica debacle - he was talking about how to explain to the kids about fellatio - saying "oh, that's a French painter". Haven't heard a word from him lately. Is he still alive, I wonder? The silence is deafening.
"...David Addington, pining away for another terrorist bombing of the United States so that the Administration can grab more power and eviscerate the Fourth Amendment."
I totally believe it. That's how we got 9/11 in the first place. They couldn't wait forever for the terra-iss to attack, so they could invade Iraq.
