If Sen. Larry Craig reconsiders and steps all over Gen. Petraeus' week of surge, Bill Kristol's head will explode. That Pentagon media war room they set up will be useless in the face of this cable TV zoo.

I did call Craig's DC office earlier today with my support, identifying myself as a liberal/progressive with no gay agenda. I did suggest him changing parties, but the staffmember said,"no way". Thanked me for my concern but did not take vitals.

I am interested in the anti-GW angle behind the Craig story--yes, in fact, I do want him to stay. So the saying goes, you can't say "Self-loathing homosexual" without "self-loathing." This just feeds into the hatred he feels towards that pathetic little man he sees in the mirror. He doesn't want to go out JUST as a laughingstock, a late-night talk show punch line, a lame morning zoo parody lyric. He wants to go out (figuratively more than literally) in a blaze of fiery denyin' glory, and he wants to take as many GOP-ers down with him as he can. Part of his brain wants EVERYONE to hate him as much as hates himself, to see him for the freak he is. He wants to be outed, he wants to be thrown into the town square and pummelled with rotten fruit, he wants to be the guy you can't sotp talking about, even if you're talking about how much you loathe him. Center of attention, for better or worse. He used to get it by saying hurtful spiteful things about people who, deep down, he wants to identify with, and now he'll get it by pissing off the party that's enabled his closeted tendencies only until they couldn't hide it anymore. I check out the video of his son's interview. I don't see it, my gaydar didn't pick up on anything. I have seen men wear ear rings before, no big deal. If anything I was impress that this family isn't a typical republican that have an issue with gays. Does their interview help their dad case? No!
The big thing is that admitting to guilt rather than fight it, was a big mistake if he is innocent. He should have fought the whole issue of having a cop trapping for gay people that are looking for sex. Any other person would say no to unwarranted sex proposal, and be done with it. I have never heard anything about the hand motion as a explanation of wanting to have sex in the bathroom. I have never walk in on anyone having sex in the bathroom. Craig should also have a tolerating stance toward Gays, if he is to take a plea of innocent for his action in the bathroom. If anything Craig is a victim of his own agenda. Isn't poetry beautiful?

I'm not a psychologist, but I play one on blogs...I think the only way to possibly explain ANY of this is that he has a dis-associative disorder. I think he can't possibly fit "gay" into everything else that he is - a rancher, a Republican, a conservative, etc. He doesn't fit the stereotype that his friends and he himself holds. Yet he has some sexual needs to be filled and so I think he must create some internal alter-ego. I think he believes that the person going into those bathrooms and having sex with men is not really him. I think he doesn't really think he's gay, he just has some needs to fill now and then.

You know, it really doesn't matter if he stays or goes, if he resigns the Republican Gov of Idaho will appoint another Republican so there's no seat to be gained and if he stays, well it's still a Republican seat. Sure there is something to him staying in terms of hypocrisy but in all honesty, it really doesn't matter.
