Facing South: Working is more dangerous under BushCo. The Bush Administration's lack of regulation and increased attention to employer assistance and voluntary compliance comes at the expense of worker safety and health. Conversely, here's a politician with a long record of accomplishment with regard to working families.
Iowa Liberal: The blazing success of our Cuba policy
Harper's: Typical of the bone-headed analysis that underpins much of America's Middle East policy, which helps explains why our efforts continue to fail in the region.
Lawyers, Guns and Money: Until Bob Somerby gets a book contract, this fine Vanity Fair article on the history-changing media war on Al Gore will do.

Bill Richardson supports opening the southern border and letting everyone in Mexico come into the U. S. at will. How is that helping American workers? If he supports the workers in this country, it has to be Mexicans. He is Mexican.

I read the Gore article yesterday; it made me furious all over again.
Some reporters are now repentant, but others are not. Worse than whores, who at least know who they are.
Today, the United States has 30,000 more troops in Iraq than on the day America repudiated the Bush war policy and voted the GOP out of power.
"Iran ... is the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism. ... Iran funds terrorist groups like Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which murder the innocent and target Israel. ... Iran is sending arms to the Taliban. ... Iran has arrested visiting American scholars who have committed no crimes. ... Iran's active pursuit of technology that could lead to nuclear weapons threatens to put a region already known for instability and violence under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust.
"Iran's actions threaten the security of nations everywhere. ... We will confront this danger before it is too late."

I have a question, could someone tell me why Americans are not allowed into Cuba but are able to travel to China? Both are communist governments. So what's the difference?
I am so sick of all these Political P.O.S.'s invoking god in every freaking thing they do or say. I feel offended that if they are elected they wont represent me.
I mean, They believe in a book that has talking animals, wizards, witches, demons, sticks turning into snakes, food falling from the sky, people walking on water, and all sorts of magical, absurd and primitive stories, and they think mentioning the book it comes from as something we should feel comfortable with?
Last spring, Nancy Pelosi pulled an amendment that would have forced Bush to come to Congress for specific authorization before attacking Iran.
Whats up with that?
LOL, Gore quoting Minnie Pearl!! Love it! He's really downhome.

US President George W. Bush on Thursday pressed Chinese President Hu Jintao to help step up pressure on Iran in talks at which he also said he would happily attend the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The thing that this article didn't mention is that since the fall of the USSR, Cuba opened trade to other countries. Politicians and businessmen in the US have this naive notion that as soon as Castro dies, Cuba will be this blank slate that they can swoop in and airdrop WalMarts, McDonald's and Ford SUVs... sorry, but it ain't gonna happen.
Cuba has been trading very openly for the past decade or so with Spain, Mexico and France. My mother managed to go there a few years ago on a "cultural" basis, and she said that most of the cars on the streets weren't 1950's Chevies and Fords (those had completely died years ago), but Peugeots and Fiats. What will happen in Cuba is like what happened in Vietnam: by the time we decided to open trade up with Vietnam, Japan and Thailand had already saturated that market.

I read it a couple of days ago but didn't get a chance to comment. Do you have any idea why the so-called "liberal" media was so hard on Gore and is so soft now on Hillary Clinton? I have an opinion but am just curious what other people think.
China denounces charges that its army hacked into a Pentagon network.
Who says China 'hacked the Pentagon'?
naschkatze @ 17:
I actually heard a reporter for the Chicago Tribune say during the 2000 election, "no one likes a smarty pants".
Time magazine cover story this week is on “The Case for National Service.”
It's almost as though pieces were falling into place.
I have a question, could someone tell me why Americans are not allowed into Cuba but are able to travel to China? Both are communist governments. So what’s the difference?
I have one theory. The Chinese are currently holding about a trillion dollars worth of US govt. securites.
So we need to be nice to them...
Some breaking news. D. James Kennedy has died. The world just became a slightly better place.
AF_Comm_Guy @ 22:
Florida's answer to James Dobson? I'm all broke up.
I've got that Gore article on the reading stack. It's nice to see it out there, but yeah, no one's been more tireless than Somerby on the issue.
Rusty Shackleford @ 23:
Now if Dobson, Robertson and LaHaye would drop dead we might be on the road towards a much improved society.
Bourgeois Liberal @ 21:
The Chinese don't have a large community in an important swing state.
