The Republican senators expressed relief Thursday that embattled Sen. Larry Craig has signaled he is highly likely to surrender his seat within a few weeks rather than fight to complete his term. Craig's departure, perhaps as early as Oct. 1, would enable Republicans to sidestep one of the several ethics dilemmas they face, and avoid the embarrassment of dealing with a colleague who had been stripped of his committee leadership posts and urged to resign by party leaders.

Reichwingers are consistent on one issue -- SEX. Whether it be a gay Reichwinger busted in a sting or the Clenis, if you have extra-marital sex, you've got to go.

I hear you Amitola I just think its kinda hopeless what with the democrats mirroring the repugs on to many issues and I try to get a cynical laugh where I can.
I think the bottom line with the impeachment issue is that there still aren't enough Americans who are uncomfortable enough to make a change. I think the economy, civil liberties and the wars will have to get much worse, and go on much longer before most Americans are motivated to do something.

Someone made the comment, " half the Republicans want him to resign, the other half want his phone number." For some reason, the comment made me smile.
No one can straddle a fence like Larry, with his wide stance and all.
How many times has he gone through the loop of "will resign - won't resign/going to fight?" I've counted at least twice.
Gene Hackman had a question in "The French Connection" that he asked of flustered suspects: "You ever pick your feet in Poughkeepsie?" Maybe Republican candidates can be asked a similar question at the next debate: "You ever tap your toes in a Twin Cities toilet?"

I thought the same thing. In fact, I read the transcript of the voicemail and thought it about it for five minutes. I couldn't think of anything in the transcript that would lead anyone to believe he was "out".

I called in MY support to his office. Suggested he could find a safe haven in the Democratic Party, the NEW Big Tent Party (dare I say Wide Stance Party? 'Spect not.) His staffer didn't think it likely, and gave me perfunctory thanks.

It sounds like Craig is at war with his GOP Senate leaders, proabably over the ethics complaint that they filed and the committee assignments that they yanked away, both with lightning speed, and his only weapon is to stick around and drag the whole affair out to hurt the Republican party's "family values" image. Now that's a scorched earth tactic if I've ever seen one.
My, my, how unseemly this whole affair has gotten. That's what happens to these "respectable" men, that stay in the closet and embrace self-loathing (a.k.a. Republicans).
On the other hand, I came out when I was 20, and embraced how fabulous I am (that's right I said, "FABULOUS"), and really couldn't care a rat's ass what anyone else thinks about it. Why should I? Usually they're just miserable little cretins, or brainwashed rednecks, I wouldn't waste the time of day with.

As for the Craig situation, it provides us with a great opportunity to take the high road. Let's encourage the man to address his sexuality.
Man O' man - I've got to take up kick-boxing or something in order to protect myself from my big mouth. I just returned from the Coeur d'Alene tribal casino this evening and while there visited the men's rest room to relieve myself. I entered the doorway with a couple of other guys and I said "You guys here for the republican meeting also? This is their meeting room, you know." I forgot that this is North Idaho - where Bill Sali and Craig are godfathers to half the population. Oh well, I can pee outside behind the pine trees if I must.
