FNS: What Homeland Security Doesn't Know

The White House sent Homeland Security's Fran Townsend on Fox News Sunday (obviously, she's a much more telegenic face than Chertoff) to discuss the Bin Laden tape. When Chris Wallace asks if DHS has analyzed the tape, Townsend knew exactly the things to say to keep the fear mongering up: could this tape be a trigger for an attack? However--maybe it's just me--but her answer to Chris's follow up seemed unintentionally honest:

TOWNSEND: Chris, these are all the sorts of things that the intelligence community will do a technical analysis to evaluate. Obviously, we're still going through that now. But looking for...looking at issues related to his health, his whereabouts, and frankly, the content of the tape to make sure that this is not a trigger for an attack, these are all things the intelligence community is completely devoted to as we speak.
WALLACE: And do you have any answers?
TOWNSEND: No. We will obviously "action" any information that we find from that, but as you can understand, the particulars of the technical analysis are not something we're going to reveal.

Why analyze it for intel when it is much easier to exploit it for fear-mongering political gain?

Telegenic? What I got from her body language is that she really did not believe what she was saying. She was talking about getting info from a tape that was proven to be a fraud.

What does her gut say?
Most Americans are not likely to seek out Osama Bin Laden's actual words. Most will read a summarized version that emphasizes the suggestion of his resolve or a version that has been hammered out into a most hateful and irrational message. If the American political parties can so skillfully propagandize against their honorable opponents, then twisting the message of their enemies is a very simple trick.
It is true that American leadership ignores the lessons of history. America bleeds its treasure, its spirit, its honor, and it reputation while its opponents wait. And with each day, America's leaders draw their nation closer to the brink of complete and broad-ranging bankruptcy. It is a shame that a nation that once commanded the world's respect from admiration now finds itself attempting to garner the same respect from fear and military might.
America should have started with the question "why do they do this to us?" on the morning of 11 September 2001. Most who did ask this question strayed to false answers based in envy and jealousy. And to this day, the answers to that question that Bin Laden offers, those words are ignored and distorted. In all of his videos, he has given the reasons why the intrusive non-Islamic world should pay attention to his warnings.
His audience has found within his message a reason only to kill him and his kind and those who intentionally or inadvertently get in the way. The descending hate has corrupted the very principles for which both sides march into their battle. Justice -- or at least somebody's sense of justice -- has become more important than mercy and compassion and understanding. No matter on which side one stands, they would be rid of us and we would be rid of them.
It is not that I agree or disagree with Osama Bin Laden. That really is not important. But like anyone, he should be heard and his words considered for the message that he intended, not the message his enemies want us to hear...
Bin Laden's eyes don't match with the new video either, and the press doesn't let you heard much of what he has to say. But what do I know?

Incredible, you would think that Bush would use this tape to renew efforts to catch Bin Laden and instead what you hear is more fear mongering. I know that him being alive is very useful to this administration but this is getting ridiculous.
Nobody should buy this BS anymore. Dead or Alive? I think they prefer him Alive and well. He seems to suit their purposes so readily and in such a timely fashion.

bin Laden's face is completely different on this video -- it is almost as if the dark beard is just a way of fudging the issue. The actual bin Laden has a fairly narrow, Roman nose and chiseled features while this guy's schnozz is wide and his face is pudgy.
It was kind of funny how the local T.V. station got a very subtle dig in -- "A younger bin Laden released a new tape today..."
