Six years on, amid a failed invasion and war, only 3 percent of Americans believe the US will bring democracy to the Middle East.

Is that why we are there? Holy smokes we is the most giving nation in the world. We givin' democracy, by killin' 'em. Hell we're givin' 'em religion too cuz thousands of them are meeting their maker!!!!!!

I wish they'd give stem cell a chance to work more....But then it would screw up the Big Pharma Industry....that's the real reason their stifling it...religion is just the guise....and the religous folks buy it....until one of theirs gets sick...or when they want an abortion for one of theirs..but that's all hush hush.

On Holy Crap ---

What the church does, and every church is the same, is Control, Destroy, Forbid good feelings, & Obliterate Intelligence.
So if a war comes, and the church is one side of it, I will be on the other, no matter what strange allies I find myself bound to.

I'm soooo tired of this whole "Christian Nation " BS. What about me? I'm no Christian. Fuck that attitude that places me in an inferior slot right off the bat. I'm glad I'm not black cause I think I'd be acting out in a very bad manner. Our country has shifted so far away from the idea it was founded on it makes me sick. It's like the pointless debate about being gay...nature or nurture. So what! Gay people, choice or not, are a reality, and to discriminate against them just because you are not comfortable with how they have sex is just not right.

Thanks for letting me rant this fine morning.

no longer a proud american's picture

here's a novel idea. probably won't carry any merit because i don't have the backing of a huge and intellectual think tank behind me, BUT, what if our forces in Iraq were given strict orders to utilize all resources, manpower and financial, to try and reconstruct iraq. no more weapons, no more killing.

During or shortly after world war II didn't the US have the Seabees that had as their task, just that, to rebuild and not destroy. seems it would work wonders for our world image not to mention the good it would do for the people of iraq. yes, america, those are people, not sunnis, not shites not insurrgents not taliban, not terrorists, the majority are just people, people first and then whatever. and we hurt them, hurt them bad and we need to do something for them and in doing so, we will help ourselves.

Nice rant. Except, pardon my interruption, but, the country was founded by rich white slave owners who wanted only themselves to decide everything. Worked that way for decades too. George Carlin explains it better.

PZ Myers article:

Daniel Cooper knows how to properly evaluate what's important. He's George W. Bush's undersecretary for benefits at the Department of Veterans Affairs. We're in the middle of a bloody, wasteful war, and we've got lots of veterans who deserve support and, you know, benefits, so I think Mr Cooper's job is fairly important.

What does Mr Cooper think is important? He's made a video for Campus Crusade for Christ in which he plainly spells out where his priorities lie.

In the video, Cooper says of his Bible study, "it's not really about carving out time, it really is a matter of saying what is important. And since that's more important than doing the job -- the job's going to be there, whether I'm there or not."

If you're a veteran, and you're not getting the benefits you deserve, shhhh … Daniel Cooper is studying his bible.

Well ain't I glad to hear that. Instead of doing his job he's studying the bible....

(sigh) only in America...and the Muslim theocracies.

I'm trying to wrap my brain around this:

Northern Kentucky Convention & Visitors Bureau

Are there really people who actually WANT to visit Kentucky??

That IS an awesome strip. There should be more of those, and in wider circulation...maybe then people would start to pay attention to what's going on.

Thanks for the link! Fine company. That Darfur strip is really good.

Good point re. the slave owning and ,I assume, the elctoral college, but I still get tired of hearing constantly about the "Christian Nation" thing, and I'm sure Carlin would agree with me on that. Just don't get him talking about golf. I love golf. He hates it.

The libertarian theocrats article is fantastic, and helps further to explain the bizarre and perverted political paradigm that has allied libertarians and authoritarians in the modern Republican Party. Indeed, it is the authoritarians (of all stripes) that both progressives and libertarians ought to work together to marginalize. Instead, because libertarians and progressives just can't (or won't) work together, both Republicans and Democrats will continue to pander to authoritarians -- especially theocrats -- to win elections.

And for more on the Christian nation nonsense, here's World Nut Daily.

I'm sitting here listening to a large group of Army helicopters leaving the US base, here in Seoul. They are defeaning (I live next-door to the base; it's a common sound.) I can only imagine when they arrive, hover over your town, and start to fire on it. This is what's going on in Iraq today. (Here they are "peaceful".) [I don't like the vibes I get from the base, but we're stuck with it in central Seoul.]

Eve Herold, the entire board at Institute for Progressive Christianity and I thank you Mike for linking to our White Paper on how Neoconservatives and the Religious Right have joined forces to prevent embryonic stem cell research.

The neocons have been fighting this battle below the radar screen for far too long. Preemptive war is but one of their many agenda items. Thanks for shedding some light on how we are trying to expose their nefarious efforts.

Those god-blinded idiots taking their shit to Turkey ought to be poster children for birth control. Here they are, "reaching out" to Muslims in their quest against the evils of evolution, while, here at home, they're the ones calling for the death of every living soul in the Middle East on the off-chance that some of them might be terrorists. And demonizing any secular organization or person(s) involved in humanitarian work in Muslim countries as "terrorist-enablers".

Textbook hypocrisy - and all based on a delusion that the Sky Daddy hates Muslims, but he hates evolution more.
