colbert-word-honor.jpg Stephen explains how Republicans and Klingons define the word "honor." Shockingly similar.

honor ≠ gop

Don't let faux Klingons get good Americans killed in Iraq.

... What? It's true!

What do the GOP know about honour???

What a great juxtaposition. Both hold their honor in such weird lights that one can only wonder if Roddenberry was making a point about conservatives.

Honor and Repugnican politicians...are an oxymoron

Klingons beleive in self-respect, common decency, truth, justice, honor, fairness. Repugs have none of these virtues.

never seen il duce rudy look better.
it's clips like these that make me wish colbert wasn't on past my bedtime!

Yeah, I'd love to see a Republican.. or even a Young Republican actually fight to the death to preserve his or her honor.

Knowing the Young Republicans, they'd just claim to have medical conditions that would take them out of the fighting. Could you imagine a Star Trek Klingon saying something like that?

Hello, my name is Zenrage and I'm a trekkie.

I lost it when I saw that last night.

Not a Trekker, Trekken or Spiner-femme? ;)

Can you imagine a Klingon pulling a Romney? Ya know, "My sons are serving their country by helping with my campaign." That's lower than the Duras sisters...

"middle of Bush's Messapotamianic fantasy."

Fixed it for Colbert. (apologies to Jon Stewart)

I thought with Klingons only those who had proven themselves in combat could lead. There are plenty of Klingons who are not soldiers, just that they aren't seen much.

The biggest difference between Republicans and Klingonis there were Klingons that deserved respect.

I always thought that the Ferengi were the Republicans; amoral profit seekers willing to work with anyone, even the truly evil, as long as money can be made (plus their treating females as second class citizens).

K'plah!

Has anyone heard if Michael Dorn has weighed in on this?

There's another neo-con/Klingon parallel Colbert should consider...

"Klingon bastards, you killed my son! Klingon bastards, you killed my son..."

(laugh track not allowed)

What I never can understand is how the right-wing Bush-bots can like Star Trek. I used to frequent a Star Trek BBS, and the Bush-bots would say why they like ST and yet not understand that they things they admire in that fictional future are almost directly opposite of their current right-wing viewpoint. I guess if you can rationalize thinking you're a good Christian in supporting the Republican party, you can rationalize anything.

The 162nd rule of acquisition: "Even in the worst of times someone turns a profit." Words to extend a useless war by.

(Also, let's just forget about the 34th RoA. ;)

"...save the empire who holds honor so dear"

So then does that make Ron Paul- Capt. Picard?

The present day incarnation of the GOP is comprised of warmongering Klingons with the business ethics of the Ferengi with President Pakled in charge.

Simple. They're much like the Ferengi. Doubt the can admire Earth. War and poverty have been eliminated. Individuals strive for self-betterment rather than fiscal remuneration. Sounds like communism.

Funny how times change. In 1967 Rodenberry created the Klingons as a statement about militaristic communists. They were the bad guys back then. Then, when STNG came about that enemy was already passé. Going into the 80’s it was the Ferengi - with their greed and capitalistic money-loving credos. In the 90’s it became the mechanized in-human Borg acting in a hive mentality with no humanism, and by now the Klingons are the good-guys.

My how times have changed.

There will always be bad-guys. The challenge in hating them so much is not to become that which you hate most.

Heh...maybe if the repugs wore red shirts...

Kidding!

How appropriate...the left making comparisons to a fictional world, not unlike the one they happily live in. Feel free to delete and block at your leisure, mods.

Presidential candidates site Jack Bauer as an example numerous times. What was that about fictional realities?

Check. Mate.

We also make reference to 1984 a lot too - another "fictional world".

Crap, it's very appropriate. Just as a jester at one time was needed to confront a ruler with bad news so too fictional works like Star Trek present uncomfortable views. Remember the 'I'm black on the right side, he's black on the left side' episode? Pretty stupid morality play. Only more stupid was the racism of the time it was shown.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

repugs will use words or sound bites for their unreasonable benefit. The shit doesn't make sense, it's short and changes on chimpy's whim. How can chimpy brag about kicking ass when Iraq doesn't have an army. The dumbfuck. He might as well have a war against hurricanes.

repugs don't know the meaning of honor. To these assholes honor is doing as you are told and without questions, without reason and without maximum protection.

chimpy and repugs are profiting off our blood

Here's the thing all brothers...I'm happy. I love my life. I love my family. Sure, I wish for better things, but I want to work for them and not have my government hand them to me. I don't want want Americans to die in Iraq, or anywhere else for that matter. I don't want to intervene in situations like Darfur because we have no national interest at stake there. I don't want to give amnesty to people who broke the law and entered the country illegaly and expect me to pay for their healthcare. I don't want any of you to pay for my healthcare...I'll pay for it myself, tyvm. Does that make me a racist or a bigot? By your definitions, I have no doubt. All that being said, I would still defend this great nation by your side and expect anyone else here to do the same. I love America.

In replying to RealityCheck:

It would be best to do a self-affirmation exercise in the open thread. Is there a point you wanted to make here that we missed?

3774 American service personnel dead and RealityCheck is happy.

Colbert and his staff are geniuses

Realitycheck---
Glad to see you making such sacrifices in the great struggle of our time.
If you want to stand side by side and defend our great nation, then do so!
America is being systematically dismantled by King George, and you and too many others stand by cheering him on.

If the Republicans held honor so dear as they claim, they would be honor bound to kill themselves off for the dishonor they've brought upon this country. Mass sepaku. Or purple Kool-Aide would also work.

Realitycheck.....the 'check' is in the mail....from the RNC

I'm glad you like your life....and no...your views don't make you a racist or a bigot...

It just makes you another worthless, shameless, greedy, apathetic idiot....that tax dollars which you hate...pay for your roads, utilities (electric, water, waste...all subsidized even 'private' companies), geopolitical energy wars you 'support'...err...sorry 'terrorism fighting' except in Saudi Arabia & Pakistan because they're our pals, and many many other things that you take for granted daily....

Have a nice day in your happy, shiny life....

I'll defend this nation when its being invaded, in imminent (not thinktank 'gut' motivated or 'justified) danger....

Like in 1812...when the British burned Washington DC...habeus corpus, constitution were still intact....when our soil was full of hostile forces

Or in 1860s....when the South fought for the right to own another human being & 'states rights' (LOL...when it suited their racist, greedy purposes) and battles were fought in cities & towns throughout the country....sometimes on daily basis...

But I sure as (insert words here) will never sign on to the military to make money for Big Oil, Bush crime family & their handlers, or any cockamamie BS 'reason' cooked up by some armchair warriors at the Heritage Foundation, PNAC, weekly standard, national review, Fox Noise or some other never served chickenhawk fascist dictator loving outfit....

But by all means...if you love this country, love this war....be all you can be... http://www.goarmy.com/contact/find_a_recruiter.jsp
Put your a$$ where your mouth is...or 'cowboy up' as you right wingnuts say (all talk, no action)

I haven't watched Star Trek for years, but I thought they were a warrior race. Maybe not capitalists like the Ferrengi, but certainly not willing to live off the hard work of their neighbors either.

These men speak of honor as a fish speaks of the sky, or as a bird speaks of the bottom of an ocean.

[...] Colbert: Klingons and Republicans Debate “Honor” Kicher… (tags: Fun SF) [...]

That was honorestly funny...

Watch it again and you see at the end the real SC's disgust with those who would pollute the word honor. You can see it in his body language when he throws his pen down.

The only thing a chicken hawk republican knows about "Honor", is how to spell it.
These are people that don't understand that America is a part of this small, beautiful planet. They don't understand, we must all live here, so it is easier to get along, than to push others around.

Where's the honor in a 6th grader beating up a kindergarten kid?

Um, the reference is not to Mesopotamia, but Bush's thinking of himself as a messiah, hence the descriptor messianic. Perhaps a search of the etymology would reveal a connection between messiah and Mesopotamia.

First: who are you--Ann Coulter? Your assumption that you would be blocked and censored indicates that you believe the left wing follows right wing's practice of unbalanced debate. As you can see, you are utterly wrong. Happy?

Second: the only fictional thing in my world is the fact that GWB is president. Sadly, everything going on around us now stems from that bit of fiction. Personally, I cannot wait to be awoken from this nightmare.

Ah, those honorable, patriotic republican scoundrels!! Adorable, ain't they?

You say bad things about the Republicans as if they are all the same. Ron Paul is an honorable man who served in the air force for five years. He wants to get us out of Iraq now not next year or in ten years. The Democrats in congress have even less honor than the Republicans. They were given a mandate to get us out of Iraq but they do nothing. Do you know of any honorable lawyers? Why do people keep voting for lawyers? I believe Dr. Ron Paul is the only candidate running for president that is not a lawyer.
