Why are liberals so obsessed with Senator Craig's personal life?
I meant to post this earlier, but here's Tom at the top of his satirical game.

Cartoons are the perfect medium for exposing right-wing hypocrisy. Might even work on Republicans -- if they could understand the words.
Joementum @ 1:
I think one of Tom's older cartoons mentioned that conservatives will never read his cartoon because it is too verbose.
relevent to the concern trolls popping up in the Patrick McHenry thread below!
John,
The secret of good comedy...
Tom Toles' cartoons should be checked out EVERY DAY:
Tom Toles
Nobody captures the essence of the mouth-breather better than Tom Tomorrow
Just think! Bill Clinton could have gotten an expert hum-job from a whole whack of Repug moral valuementarians AND been given a roll of dough too! (No kidding, maybe his harshest persecutors weren't jealous of him but of Monica.)
Hasn't this penguin heard the 80's are over? No one has worn wrap arounds since we were wearing German Army tank tops, and chemical warfare suits like I did.
And besides, Opus is better and funnier.
Ellie @ 7:
LOL! I've thought as much.
In response to other guys complaining about Clinton, I've made the off hand remark, "Sounds like you're not getting any."
Repub train of thought
Do as I say not as I do
Mike @ 5:
Nobody is better at getting to the heart of the issues. Toles is the best. Maybe the best ever.
The stinking smell of hypocrisy covers the Repugs completely. Besides, they were the ones who ate their own time. The Democrats sat back and watched the show. We didn't want to spend 50 million dollars on a tawdry bathroom interaction.
I read this one in the local media paper, great stuff.
Actually, it's conservatives, not liberals, who are obsessed about Craig's personal life, specifically his homosexuality. Liberals are obsessed with hypocritical right-wingers who run on a family values platform while trolling bathrooms for quick sex, patronizing whorehouses, and in the case of gay stud Jeff Gannon, posing as a news reporter while wandering around the White House for weekends on end without proper credentials while Laura was out of town and while the Secret Service looked the other way.
Craig defended himself by saying, "I'm not gay." He repeated that line several times. Craig was obviously concerned with his own base, not with liberals, when he said that, because to a right-wing LDS audience in Idaho, being gay is a crime in and of itself. Craig is apparenetly a bi-sexual, but the important point here is that he's a pervert.
Robert Lockwood Mills @ 14:
Bi-sexual? Because he's married? I think that's called a beard!
...Timing.
Fanon @ 15:
And aren't all of his children adopted?
Some men have been known to construct families for the purpose of giving them the appearance of credibility.
This story could have an innocent background (he could've been set up), or it could be very sordid. There aren't enough data points to know for sure.
ysbaddaden @ 8:
But he's just trying to be retro. The 80's are coming back!
...or either that, he hasn't redesigned Sparky since he first appeared in the cartoon almost 20 years ago.
Weaseldog @ 17:
Set up? I don't know. That seems like a real stretch that they planted someone in some random bathroom in an airport just to set him up. I didn't even really know who he was until this happened. It's not like they set up Tom Delay or something. I don't buy it. He was in a cruising bathroom and he knew just what he was doing.
If I were Craig, I would fight this thing to the end. No amount of time, effort or taxpayer money should be spared in making sure that he can clear his good name and let everybody know that, for God's sake, he's NOT GAY!!!!
I've got nothing to say. Tom said it all.
Fanon @ 19:
Just thinking out loud. That is Larry's side of the story. The cop misunderstood him, and the Republican party is trying to scapegoat him. I guess he was peeking in on the cop to see if he had a roll of TP.
Personally, I think he is gay and is trying to pretend to be straight. He understands that to be a politician in his state, he has to be married and have kids. So he got married and adopted kids.
It seems to me that he would've been happier moving to a place where he wouldn't have to feel that he has to hide his identity.
I once lived with a family where the set up was there - dad was gay - had fathered the children and lived a closeted and desperate life. The sadness of the wife was profound. The dysfunction and secrets - even for an outsider as I was - were an immense confusion. I do hope that his family does not live in that particular hell. Just watching it for five years made it clear that it is the lying and covering up that matters. Whether it is gay or straight adultery - the family suffers.
Weaseldog @ 22:
Yup, but they never seem to do that, do they? I would imagine that is a hard way to live, to constantly be in hiding.
Jaime Legato @ 20:
That can be his next campaign slogan!
"Larry Craig: He's so not gay!"
or ...
"Vote for Craig. He doesn't suck!"
Heck, maybe McCain will loan him the Straight Talk Express.
Fanon @ 24:
Yup, but they never seem to do that, do they? I would imagine that is a hard way to live, to constantly be in hiding.
Look at all of the trouble it caused Superman and Batman. They had to manufacture secret identities in order to go outside wearing tights.
Help Tom expose right wing hypocrisy: Pass the cartoon along to your friends and local media.
did i see a shout-out for opus?? hee hee
Liberals appear so obsessed with Craig's personal life because of the toxic level of personal hypocrisy he's living. He's not alone. A good portion of the "gay bashing" GOP are actually "closet gays" themselves who feel as long as they make the "appearance" of not being gay, they will get away with it as a cover. Liberals realize that honesty in one's life means personal credibility....gay, straight, or anything in-between. Liberals are not ashamed of who they are. They realize that God created us all equal and we are who we are.
It's the GOP "bible thumping, judgmental, bigoted hypocrites" whom we find outrageously unacceptable. This level of unacceptability and incredulity may appear to be an "obsession" when it is nothing more than sheer outrage for the level of hypocrisy they are manifesting.
Craig is who he is but it's not "okay" to engage in lewd behavior in a public rest room as he did. For this crime, he must be punished and cast from public office.
Craig joins a host of other "GOP hypocrites" though and the list is mounting daily. Patrick McHenry is the latest (R-NC) to join this group. Boehner, Hastert, and Foley are a few others. Now Vitter's "prostitute" has come forth and will take his seat down the tubes. It's time for this level of personal inauthenticity to come to a screeching halt.
Larry Craig is Completely Heterosexual!
why is the penguin wearing welding glasses?
Liberals' supposed obsession with Larry Craig's personal life doesn't begin to compare with the intensity of Conservatives' obsessed with culture in general. Clinton's cigar was only a small part of this.
They want to take everybody back to some non-existent golden age that existed before the bad days of the 1960s, when the hippies and the feminists and the big-government atheists ruined everything. Their own massive corruption, hypocrisy and incompetence cannot cloud this righteous vision.
ysbaddaden @ 8:
Yeah, 'cause a penguin should be wearing what style, now?
I havent heard anything of consequence from a liberal - only from conservatives. Remember them, the fag haters?
If anything, liberals have characterized him as a victim and have suggested he be left alone.
You are mis-characterizing this I think.
"Yeah, ’cause a penguin should be wearing what style, now?"
Tuxedos, what else?
cleo @ 12:
It's like when knuckle-draggers come on this site, claiming that liberals are so afraid of a Mitt Romney candidacy. Actually, liberals couldn't care less, since they're unlikely to vote Republican. Romney's Mormonism is actually a cause celebre for Republican'ts internecine mêlées.
I have mêlées malaise, particulary regarding My Lai.
I'm not sure that qualifies as satire. That's pretty much right up straight.
Craig isn't even a blip on my radar. He could live a thousand years or he could die tomorrow and I wouldn't give a damn which. The only thing he means to me is yet another nail in the coffin of supposed Republican moral superiority.
And for reference I don't think Democrats are morally superior either. I do in fact think people should decide for themselves how to behave and should let others do the same. If you like the cock, go get some cock. I don't give a damn. But don't go telling other people they can't get cock too or condemn them for seeking it.
It really does amaze...Wingnuts had the audacity to impeach Clinton for lying about an extra marital affair, yet, they constantly lie and deceive Congress and the nation, and many are caught up in the most bizarre sexual relationships (Senator Craig, Foley etc etc etc...)
Fanon @ 19:
Exactly!
Why in the name of god would an undercover Police Officer try to "Setup" Sen. Craig?
It's a ridicules notion. The man was cruising and he got pinched, end of.
BTW, if it were not for the stupid discriminatory laws that the Wingnuts endorse then Craig might well of being doing something that wasn't illegal.
They made the bed, then they whine because they get caught lying in it.
That's one a lot of Democrats should take to heart. I've heard a lot of them say they won't stoop to Republican tactics. Unfortunately, Republican tactics are effective.
Love This Modern World, I'm tempted to make a pic of Sparky beating the crap out of Mallard Fillmore.
