Open Thread: Blogger Party
(graphic via FireDogLake) Went to a blogger party last Sunday at Steve Audio's house. It was a fun time being with my blogger pals.
From L to R: Howie Klein, Skippy, Tbogg, John Amato, Mrs. Tbogg, Jane Hamsher, Steve Audio, RJ Eskow

Damn that sounds and looks fun. Congratulations.
"Prepare for war against Iran: France"
Right on schedule.
nice looking bunch...none of those smart ass kids hanging around!
Lots of Hawaiian shirts!!!! Where's your's, John? Howie's is the best.
I read the article. I don't know what or who "ndtv" is as a news source. But they should know that Iran is not an Arab country.
In all these years, I've never seen you, John. You are such a cutie!
I love it that this groups includes the young, the chic, the motley and discreet.
Thanks for sharing that and letting us see the faces behind the verbiage.
Jack Jett...for me, just imagine if Brad Pitt and Richard Gere had a child, I would (not) be it.

True enough. It is Persian. Since when has the Media been truly informed?
We're truly glad you made it to our little Blogfiesta, it wouldn't have been the same without you.
Everyone in that picture is attractive and looks intelligent. I didn't know there were so many Canadians down there.
This picture has to be a fake...
First, bloggers never leave their apartments!!!
Second, blogger are always in their underwear!!!
By the way..screw Brian Williams....
And I expected all of them to have foam coming out of their mouths.
Are bloggers required to wear tacky Hawaiian shirts? Seems like a cliche.
> Are bloggers required to wear tacky Hawaiian shirts? ...
Maybe not even underwear!!!!
In contrast to that picture, where most seem to be saying that they can speak (via their open mouths, IMHO), check out this picture (it's ELO) -

Did you listen to my Air America spot? lol What a trip going solo for the first time on the radio...
John -
> I have none….
Man, are you out of the loop!!!! ;-)
The best article I've seen today is from David Podvin. He defends MoveOn's recent criticism of Dr. David Petrayus.
It's dated... 9/16/07. Today.
John -
> Did you listen to my Air America spot? lol What a trip going solo for the first time on the radio…
I totally missed it. *I* must be out of the loop. Where can I find it (I'm still on AAR Premium)?
Stanley Rosenthal @ 4:
That's a Thai shirt. I fell off a kayak in shark infested water off St Simons Island. I didn't get eaten but I got wet and had to buy all new clothes.
> The best article I’ve seen today is from David Podvin. He defends MoveOn’s recent criticism of Dr. David Petrayus. ...
I haven't read it. What I do is wait for the right-wingers to use their time tested method of rewriting their opposition's names and when they do that I point out that they make the right-wing's attacks on Move On for "Betray Us" look pretty silly.
The best (LOL!) response I've gotten sofar is the person responded claiming that it was satire, and protected free speech. Which I responded to like "Certainly. And that's what saying "Betray Us" is. No reponse further on that from my opposition.
Howie -
> That’s a Thai shirt. I fell off a kayak in shark infested water off St Simons Island. I didn’t get eaten but I got wet and had to buy all new clothes.
:-) Thai, Hawai ... what the hell's the difference once your head's bitten off. ;-)
Damn, you guys can never all be in the same place again.
Oh yeah, they can't even find UBL.
Just a drive by to leave this link in case people havn't read about this yet.

Catch ya later. ;)
stevo @ 13:
You priced a good Hawaiian shirt lately? They're not tacky, they're the perfect casual attire for a hot afternoon-by-the-pool party in L.A.
And Howie's is indeed the sharpest, and from what he says, the most exotic.
stevo @ 13:
I have a very good friend who started selling vintage Hawaiians in the 70s, and now also manufactures new-like-old (Vintage fabric patterns) and has done it for over thirty years. And he's done very well.
They are a fabulous art form. You gotta get close up.
Thelma @ 16:
Um, well, talk a lot about politics, mostly.
And music, cultural stuff, religion, all while eating Pam's great home-made Mexican food, drinking tons of great beer, wine, soft drinks, etc.
For more about the party and who else was there, see my piece about it, and skippy's piece.
Eight people - two women - looks pretty gay. :)
SteveAudio @ 29:
John Amato @ 18:
You guys gotta take up a collection for John. He'd look great in some fab vintage Hawaiian shirt.

Time to wake up people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's good to be able to put a face to the bloggers. When will we see a group picture of the C&L gang?
The guys are lucky to be in the presence of such beautiful and intelligent ladies.
Stanley Rosenthal @ 23:
I was on Richard Greene's Clout..Thursday...I'm getting some audio, but it's hard for me to listen to myself...It was fun, but scary...I learned a lot...
SteveAudio @ 31:
Do you guys find yourselves clicking your index fingers after speaking?
...Say a word with a link in blue?
miss_kitty @ 33:
And I got to talk to one of the lead writer's of Buffy and Angel for a half hour...Ate some good food and filmed a little spot for the Courage Campaign.
Appeals court reversed the second-degree battery charge of Mychal Bell of the Jena 6. You search news sites for 'jena 6' you'll see a number of links.
When I first heard about this 2 months back it took time to find any mention.
For me I wouldn't been aware of this if not for blogs. So you guys enjoy yourself.
> I was on Richard Greene’s Clout..Thursday…
I'll go grab it. I'm finding it hard to get into new AAR hosts, because as soon as I get into them, they take them away.
John Amato @ 38:
that must've been fun. I never watched Buffy, though I'm sure I could have. I use to watch what's-'er-face when she was Erica Kane's daughter on All My Children. So I wasn't avoiding it because I was a TV snob or anything...
Thanks for the pic.

U.S. probes banned briefs found at Gitmo
By BEN FOX, Associated Press Writer
Sat Sep 15, 1:04 AM ET
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070915/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/guantanamo_contrab...
Guards at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp found two prisoners sporting unauthorized underwear, and the U.S. military is investigating to determine how they got the contraband.
Both prisoners were caught wearing Under Armour briefs and one also had on a Speedo bathing suit, items the military said were not issued by Guantanamo personnel or sent through the regular mail, according to a Defense Department letter obtained Friday by The Associated Press.
Army Lt. Col. Ed Bush, a spokesman at the jail holding some 340 men on suspicion of terrorism or links to al-Qaida and the Taliban, said more was involved than just an uproar over skivvies.
He said the appearance of contraband raised serious concerns about the potential for smuggling other items that could be used by detainees to harm themselves or staff.
"There is no room for error when working in a dangerous environment, and constant vigilance is of the utmost importance," Bush said.
Detainees are given cotton briefs similar to those issued to U.S. soldiers in basic training, he said.
_____________
Gosh! I'm so glad the Bush administration is sooooooooo vigilant and watchful, protecting us from dangerous, mass destruction underwear that the Gitmo detainees wear. I'm so much safer and the whole country is glad to have our very alert administration catch such an incredibly massive, dangerous terrorist threat. God only knows what terrorist horrors they might have unleashed if all the Gitmo detainees were able to get such dangerous, contraband underwear. Why, God help us, without the constant sharp-eyed Bush administration protecting us, they might have even been able to wear the ultimate terrorist weapon, lacy, pink bikini panties. Horrors! Horrors!
Thank God for our wise, brave, vigilant, wise, thoughtful, courageous, heroic selfish, hypocritical, greedy, thieving, mass and serial murdering, bloodthirsty, bigoted, racist Bush and his criminal administration.
I'm sure our wise, genius, safety-minded administration has alerted airport security to check travelers luggage for such contraband underwear and ban all travelers caught with such dangerous, destructive terrorist undergarments in their luggage, detain and torture them until they admit to having been trained in Al Qaeta training camps to wear such personal garments. Probably a sign of their personal devotion to the infidel Allah and hatred for the one true Christian God.
Wait, so, you bloggers are actually, like.......people? Human beings? You're not little entities who live in my computer, and happily deliver news to me personally? Sheesh, and yesterday I figured out that Kermit was just a puppet, not an actual talking frog. This is not a good weekend.

Well you and me baby ... :-)
The EU decided MS is a monopoly.
So that's what bloggers look like. From recent news reports, I pictured grisly little bent-over creatures, skulking in back alleys, corrupting innocent god-fearing Americans; spewing filth and lies, and ducking for cover from light like cockroaches. Actually you look pretty normal; happy even. Who knew?

What Global Warming Looks Like: New Report Visualizes Impact of Sea Level Rise on U.S. Coastal Cities - http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/TenWays/story?id=3602227&page=1
Edward Mazria wants people to know how rising sea levels — made worse by global warming — will affect residents along U.S. coastlines. "We're not talking about South Sea islands and Bangladesh here," Mazria said. "We're talking about the U.S. being physically under siege with a very small increment of sea level rise."

Blackwater has had its license revoked by the Iraqi justice minister for killing 8 people. Seems Iraq has tired of the lawlessness afforded to these mercenaries. How will this affect things if the ban is upheld?

Possum of Daily Kos fame, Jerry Northington announces his Congressional campaign. Jerry contributes much to the political process. A Vietnam Veteran, a neurological veterinarian, a concerned citizen, and a honest human being, wishes to give back to his country on a grander scale than he has thus far.
Northington longs to bring his huge heart and expansive mind to Washington DC. He will work to represent the people of his home state, Delaware, and his fellow countryman. Northington's experiences are ample.

10,000 Iraqis are seeking asylum in the US because they worked with the US. Does that bother anyone? The reporting on this fact seems to be limited to the issue of the delay that such refugees are facing and the need to speed up the process. But isn't it a stark sign of the failure of the war? Is this something that the hawks bargained for? That we'd have to take in the flower and candy throwers? And what will 10,000 more Iraqis (a surge if you will) in the US do for the bed wetting set (surely there must be some sleeper cells hidden in there)?

Looking at the photo now of the blogger party.
The women are hot. The men are hideous!
Seeing a picture of TBogg is like seeing a character in a movie based a book you've always loved. I had a vague picture of him in my mind that looks nothing like the real deal. Cool to see him (and the rest of you)!
The blond blogger with the big boobs in the middle should have her picture taken like that in front of Bill Clinton.
bill @ 61:
I feel the same way. Brilliant, beautiful ... boy oh boy ...
_Plus, the right to left identification doesn't quite work out. I know who Mrs. TBogg is only because she's not Jane, but I have yet to figure out who the men are. Left to right starting with the back row? Or left to right from the front row, it is still unclear to me.
Nice to see youse guys, oh and two of the most beautiful babes in the blog-o-sphere!!
Jane, will you marry me?
