Mike's Blog Round Up

ARRGH! Today is Talk Like a Pirate Day, also known in the blogosphere as Link to Cap'n Dyke Day. Cap'n Dyke is the most worthy lesbian pirate queen that sails the blogosphere seas.

By the way, what does Anderson Cooper see when he looks in the mirror?

...so why aren't we talking about oil running out? Because Iraq bombed the World Trade Center? Ask any kid. Or the Commander in Chief and his right-wing blogger friends..

The question we should all ask is why did a United States Senator just stand there while Gestapo goons violated the constitutional rights of a student participating in a public event, brutalized him in full view of everyone, and then took him off to jail on phony charges?

And the Silent Guardian? Raytheon's Mac Jeffery says it is being looked at only by the "North American military and its allies" and is not being sold to countries with questionable human rights records.

Isn't that us?

They are quick, clean, cheap, easy to use and, most importantly, leave no marks. What would happen if they fell into the hands of unscrupulous nations where torture is not unknown?

I repeat. Isn't that us?

You can pretty much make one of these with an old microwave oven and metal piping.

In relation to that link about aAnderson Cooper.

I get a little bored of people knocking CNN and MSNBC. (Fox news is a different beast because it's such a propaganda outlet for the state, but still falls into the same frame work of what I'm about to mention.) It's not 100 percent legit Journalism. Deal with it.

Most people pay 40, 50, 150 bucks a month for cable. They elect to buy it and that's what they get for the choice they make. Cable has always been part of a system where you pay for slightly more engaging entertainment. I can't really think of a way for 24 hour news network to be sober and intelligent all the time. They have to please their sponsors and shareholders and to do that they have to get those ratings.

Its kind of like when people bitch about bad action movies. We know. We get it. The plot sucks. The real intelligence is being able to put things into a category. THIS is reliable news and THIS isn't. THIS is a smart film made to stimulate my mind and THIS is a dumb way to disengage it.

If you want sober and hard hitting news turn to watch Democracy Now! on one of those crazy high channels and go nuts. (Of course, that's a lot extra per month isn't it?) Or just watch C-span.

Bloggers spend all day online, watching TV, checking other blogs and sites. You kind of have to be a news junkie to make a good blog. So be it. But please use your head to filter what is entertainment news (that you spend a lot of money on.) and what isn't. A lot of people can't even afford the luxury that gives so many bloggers something to preach about.

It's just boring and simple criticism. Like saying bush is an idiot over and over again.

We know. Yawn.

BG, thanks for staying on the Greenspan revelations. It hasn't been much more than a blip in the mainstream.

Congress Asked to Lift Debt Ceiling By Martin Crutsinger, AP Economics Writer
Wednesday September 19, 11:28 am ET
Paulson Tells Congress the Current Debt Ceiling Will Be Hit on Oct. 1

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson told Congress on Wednesday that the federal government will hit the current debt ceiling on Oct. 1.
He urged quick action to increase the limit, saying it was essential to protect the "full faith and credit" of the country, especially at a time of financial market turmoil.

The current debt limit is $8.965 trillion. Unless Congress votes to raise that ceiling, the country would be unable to borrow more money to keep the government operating and to pay debt obligations coming due. The United States has never defaulted on a debt payment but the decision on whether to raise the debt ceiling often sparks a prolonged political battle in Congress.

Thank-you for that. I totally agree, I get tired of all the negativity about the Democrats as well, they are the best option that we have right now, so deal with it! Anything to get rid of this total shower of tools that we have as a government .

Here's where Alan Greenspan drew his philosophy: Ayn Rand’s Literature of Capitalism

HAHAHAHA! Never expected to see http://www.hotchickswithdouchebags.com/ listed on Crooks and Liars. Definitely one of my favorite chuckle sites as well. Too many classic pictures and the commentary is just often hilarious.

i've always thought it was a shame that the carribean accent didn't end up being pirate.

i looked for a site that i used to visit--it was 'advice from a pirate' or some such. i thought it was yaargh dot com but something else is there. it was kind of like ninja advice but i liked it better--did you know that 9 out of 10 mateys prefer grog to plain water? found that out there.

to L.A. and Janet, how much you want to bet that these toys have been tested on some of the poor bastards already held illegally by our government.

not sell to governments with bad human rights records? maybe they consider some people to be more human than others so they are just shocking a monkey.

but brothers and sisters if this is out there and is as simple to construct as they say maybe a foil hat is not such a bad idea anymore. god help our souls.

Every so often a site comes along that breaks up the monotony of the typical news, politics and porn variety. Sure it's not The Onion but it is full bodied and refreshing with a distinctly crisp finish. I thank you for introducing me to hotchickswithdouchebags.com.

Just fabulous.

Not to take anything away from this site, but i could not get through my day without a daily dose of douchebags. Like the Dr. said it is a great site.

Hot Chicks with Douchebags. Hilarious Bluegal. I'm getting your sense of humour and DIG IT!! I'm nowhere near any of those guys, but I'll beware I -- don't even think about it; style no-nos, for sure. (People say I look very much like George Clooney.)
