Colin Powell by the Strokeland Superband
By John Amato Wednesday Sep 19, 2007 5:10pm
C&L's own Mike Finnegan (Mike's Blog Round Up) sings this very cool song by the Strokeland Superband. Since I've posted on Powell today---it is a very fitting piece of funky music. Please go over and buy a copy. These guys played with everyone including Tower of Power....

LYRICS
Colin Powell (S. Kupka, W. Ross)
(Chorus)
When will Colin Powell write his tell-all book
Warts and all, Warts-and all
When will Colin Powell let us take a look
Warts and all and that ain't all
Verse 1
Preemptive strike to get them first
May Allah help us in our cave-to-cave search
Like a big fat fearful bully in a new sandbox
Oil Money really talks
(Chorus 2)
When will Colin Powell write his tell-all book
Warts and all, Warts and all
When will Colin Powell write his tell-all book
Kiss and tell, but what the hell
Verse 2
Force-fed freedom and then rebuild
While our sons and daughters are getting killed
No-bid contracts for the very rich
Energy security's a bitch
(Bridge)
A good soldier got to make his bones
Maybe even in a combat zone
A good soldier got to hold his mud
A good soldier -- A good soldier
Sometimes has to fall on his sword
(Chorus 3)
When will Colin Powell write his tell-all book
When will Colin Powell let us take a look
Verse 3
The disinformation that bamboozled a nation
Legal wiggle-room for harsh interrogation
Euphemistic slogans to glorify the war
What are we fighting for?
(Ride Out)

Frack!
Great band! Great song!
Powell reads a plagerized paper from the internet to the UN Council and claims he spent 5 days writing it??????
Powell can't be trusted any more than can Petraeus!!
Finns, Again !
Great work (as usual) Mike !
Man, this is the funniest, truest thing I've seen or heard in a long, long time.
Damn, Mike seriously rocks! Dude, I had no idea. What a treat just before cocktail hour here at the Pop nest. I could listen to that voice and that band sing anything and fall in love. Truely my kind of music! :)
Powell is a good soldier, but a bad liar.
That music SUCKS
Don't hold back, JK. Tell us how you really feel about the music. ;)
Good stuff.
Allow me to add:
Colin got a Jag to ease his mind
Pitching the big sham to cover Bush's behind
He condemned American troops to fry in Anbar
So Colin got a kickback from his buddy Bandar
That was pretty cool. There was a song on here several months ago about one of the big lies on the run up to war. “The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa .” Someone made a song using that line, I enjoyed it too. Does anyone have a link to it?
Awesome song. Kudos to Mike
What does “The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa ” rhyme with?
Did he really try to rhyme "sword" and "mud"?
OMG...this is brilliant...
************
#14 "Brits have learned that Saddam suposedly sought some yellow cake,
But now we know that story is sure a Fake"
**************
How does that work for you ?
Great song. It summed up everything perfectly.
Keep those songs coming!
Bush cant silence all of the american people, our voices OR the soldiers.
Veterans, Citizens, soldiers and their familes are bailing from the Republican Party throughout the Country.
Bush, Cheney and the GOP have manipulated intelligence, lied to our Soldiers, lied to the American People, committed crimes & treason.. All while profiteering and destroying what Americans, Soldiers, Veterans have fought so hard and died for.
The GOP Obstructionists are finished.
Were blasting the song out our window..
... the whole block is dancing.
It will be a Great new dance tune that will sweep ALL the clubs across the Country
leading up to the 2008 presidential and congressional elections.
Its called
"United We Stand - Give Bush and the GOP Obstructionists the Finger" Boogie.
Great old school song. Sax and trombone is almost as good as sex sans condom.
You got that thang...whasitcalled again? Soul! swingin song for an amateur, snarking. Also pseudo's to the recording engineer! No skips or scratches! Boogie on boys!
That's it. When is C&L going to dump anyone who's been responsible for the music postings on this site and put some decent (or no) music instead of this Sesame Street crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????????
Nice job Mike, still funky after all these years.
I used to listen to you when you played with the Serfs on that old B3 you bought from Bob Hall. I still miss Ed Macy. Memories from Wichita.
That F***ing ROCKS!! Great stuff!! I can't get the CD this week but definitly will next week!
Dear Mike, (No, not you, the other Mike)
I have no choice except to leave you for the other Mike (yes, that would be you).
With Love,
Me.
So, it's true! This is the same Mike Finnegan I used to see in Wichita, KS back around 1971. The same Mike Finnegan who played on Hendrix's "Electric Lady Land" album. Well, I'll be go to hell (not republican hell, but a blues bar that is). Hey Mike, it's been a long time since I heard any music from you. I guess that I haven't looked in the right places. I read yer blog roundup everyday. Keep it up!
As per the comment by JK@#8; life is a smörgåsbord. Nothing sucks more than a mono culture. Variety=Life. It ain't no banquet without it.
Very nice!

Yes it is!
Damn I missed this post somehow.
Its not often you hear a song that makes you mad and wanna shake a tail feather at the same time!
Oakland funk lives...

Hey, to each his or her own. If you don't like it, then turn it off. The only music that "sucks" is that which some people feel it's OK to impose on others, especially the annoying little dweebs who disturb the peace driving around with their 1000-watt bass amps cranked up to "11."
I just saw Powell give a speech this week.
Let me tell you, this guy is NOT what you think he is.
All the reports of him getting in shouting matches with the neocons etc, I had always thought of him as someone who privately wanted things to be much different, but couldn't publically speak out.
After hearing him speak it was very clear, he didn't speak out because he basically got what he wanted.
Someone asked if he thinks that he could have stopped the invasion if he would have spoken publically about some of his reservations. His response was basically "No. Some people disagreed about how many troops would be needed, but in the end, I wanted Saddam taken out." Thats not a direct quote obviously, but you get the idea.
From his speech, I got the feeling like he feels as if things are indeed BETTER that Saddam is gone, and if a million Iraqis are killed sorting out the civil war, it will be worth it for future Iraqis to live in a state free of Saddam.
THANKS!
