Rank the Falafel Guy right up there at the top of the list of Americans (behind the Bush administration, naturally) that sneer on the very foundation upon which this country was built. Little things like civil liberties are ridiculous concepts that let the terrorists win. Kudos to the ACLU for refusing to put themselves up to O'Reilly's sandbagging techniques. To his credit, Steven Greenberg, the attorney brought on to defend the ACLU, does a great job of swatting down all of Bill's talking points.

The ACLU is suing the FBI right here in the USA. At issue, the bureau watching some American Muslims. The ACLU wants all records detailing that made public in California. No word on whether Al Qaeda has joined the ACLU in that lawsuit and the ACLU refused to appear with us this evening.

The ACLU's mission is not to defend the United States from physical attacks by others, it is to protect the rights of those within the borders of the United States, its protectorates, territories and other properties defined by treaty. It defends the rights of those from the Klu Klux Klan to NAMBLA to Rush Limbaugh to terror suspects held in Gitmo to Senator Larry Craig to you and I.
Do I like some of the groups and individuals the ACLU has fought to protect the rights of? Not in the least, but the rights that were defended were my rights too.

Why Dodd voted no on the leven reed amendment is not hard to figure out. The amendment is not strong enough. He knew it was not going to pass anyway. Durbin knows the votes before they are even taken.

What Bill fails to realize is that the ACLU bases every legal argument on established laws. They're not inventing this shit up, Bill. They're protecting our rights and freedoms based on current laws. If you have a problem with the ACLU, you really have a problem with our laws.

Seems to me that if the government can listen to my conversations without a warrant, sneak and peak in my house, taser me for asking too many questions, throw me in a dark hole and not tell anybody, and spy on my library habits, then the terrorists have already won.
Wow, BillO looks like he has aged 20 years since I last bothered to watch a clip of him! Just look at the guy. He looks like he's about 75 in this clip (the age of most of his viewers, coincidentally).

I would give anything for someone to interrupt Mr Bill during his segue from HIS last word into the closing segment music by saying "Whoa, whoa, WHOA! Bill! You said you were giving me the last word!" What do you think would happen? Are there any documented cases where Mr Bill actually gave ANYBODY the last word? I would bet money he's pulled the same b.s. on guests with whom he agrees. You know there are some of his viewers who actually believe his meme and see him defy it with their own eyes yet they believe it anyway. Probably the same ones who still haven't concluded that the earth is not flat.
As for the "I've got nothing to hide" argument in favor of heavier and more intrusive surveillance of American citizens, I found a great essay you can use to rebutt these "Nothing To Hide" "patriots." It's at http://ssrn.com/abstract=998565. It's a very well-written essay, authored by Professor Daniel Solove that you can download and print. It pretty much extinguishes any remaining rationale one may have that it's okay to secretly spy on American citizens without a warrant. I got so tired of arguing with these "I've got nothing to hide so go ahead and spy on me" folks (including members of my own family) that I found this to be a godsend.
