As the hate site says: "In Case Anyone Wants To Deliver Justice." The editor of the website with a swastika at the top says on an audio at the site "I'd like to go down there and put a bullet in each one of those little black kids ..." When asked if he might have brought any harm to the Jena 6 by posting that, he told CNN "I don't know that doing justice can be considered doing harm."

I'd really, really like to think that this sort of thing is limited to a few complete nutcases who are even fringe among fringe right wing groups. Sadly, I'm not so sure ("Macaca") that's actually the case.
Thankfully it's no longer possible to be anywhere near that overtly and violently racist in almost any company now, but how much of that general sort of sentiment is hiding under the surface (O'Reilly's recent "that black restaurant was just as nice as one run by white folks!" shock comes to mind) is sad to think.
Also, while freedom of speech is tremendously important, at what point do you cross from speech to inciting violence? I've never been entirely clear on where the line into criminal territory is crossed with this sort of thing...

It's this kkkind of hatred that makes me wonder sometimes if Lincoln did the right thing. I'm not talking about freeing slaves, I mean bringing the south into the Union!

Bush has hated the blacks since they didn't support his run for Governor. Look at his actions in NOLA, wonder how long it will take him to send in Blackwater thugs. Also wonder if in their sworn "self defense" lie they will start shooting. This could really get out of control and Bush will have his excuse to declare martial law.

YUP! Racism is off eveerybody's radar these days... ESPECIALLY the Republican Presidential campaigns of most of the front runners. They won't even go to DO CAMPAIGNING, in the form of a debate, for an African-American organization.
Republicans don't have anything to say to black Americans. They are not interested in issues that affect African Americans. They don't think black Americans are going to vote for them anyway... so they MARGINALIZE America's whole African-American population!

But I will say that my first inclination was to type something along the lines of, "Gee, so you mean racism didn't end altogether in the 60s after some marches and boycotts? You mean it isn't true that we don't all get along now? There's still a Klan? There are neo-Nazis? Prolly just the liberal media hyping up a small incident or lying about it outright, huh?"
That this shocks people only shows just how complacent our national discourse has become. This country was founded by people who extolled the virtues of freedom and equality -- in some of the most eloquent documents in history on the subjects -- and who simultaneously enslaved an entire race. The dichotomy has been with us ever since.
First, conversations about racial injustice hatred must take place on a national scale again. Regularly, and with the belief that it is still one of the worst problems of this country. Secondly, those conversations must be merged with general conversations about all oppressed minorities, and we ought to invoke the founding principles of our nation, out loud, all the time. All people are created equal, and endowed with the inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Most of the time you know by the look on it's face, it is just spouting crap to get attention and money. Nothing more. This was bound to happen. I could see this reaction from hate groups from a mile away. At my highschool kids are starting to get very vocal on this situation from both sides and tensions are rising. Situations such as this bring racists out of hiding. I won't be surprise if copycat incidences occur.

This is typical Deborah. Saturday nights in the U.S. generally have fewer and a slower rate of postings. But you are right to worry about your biracial son. There are a lot of people out there that somehow got left off of the evolution bus.
The kid that they let out on bail - what's up with that? He obviously has a deep hatred of Black people and he incited a riot. He was apprehended and is probably angry about that. So he will go take it out on a Black person. Great move. They should have let this monster rot in a cell.
Interesting how the reaction to the Jena 6 case on conservative talk radio has all been of the Tony Snow type: "There's no racism left except the racism of the Left/civil rights leaders," or "As long as we keep dredging up the past, this stuff will continue..." Blah blah blah.
In some parts of America, it's still 1953. And it's still 1953 in the hearts and minds of a lot of white America, too.
Wake up and start blogging this, folks. This is as good a place as any to take a stand.

I'm sure it's all just a coincidence that the country is going backwards fast when it comes to race relations at the very same time as the Repub party is telling minorities to "go f*ck themselves" when it comes to debates and Bush has been telling the NAACP to go f*ck themelves for years.

Two thoughts:
1) no one says that the African American kids shouldn't be punished. But the problem is that the white kids who attacked the black kids were given far slighter punishment. This was a tit for tat situation in which the white kids were hardly punished at all but the book was thrown at the blacks.
NPR has done some good work on this.

Of course racism still plays a big role in politics. It just isn't as blatant. With regards to the Jena 6... yes they did commit a crime, but it was not attempted murder. It's obvious to anyone who just takes a second to think about the case.

the level of the punishment is not fair in this event. this was a group of guys white and black having a highschool type fight. you can bet if the white guys had beaten the blacks up as badly or worse than this white guy, NOT A WORD WOULD BE HEARD about it.

This whole thing has been out of hand from the moment it got started. First off, the charge attempted murder of a kid who went to a school function the day he got his ass kicked. Second, the "reduced" charges that have kept these boys locked up for a period longer than an adult convicted of assault would get in my state if the damage done was equivalent to that of the young boy. And now death threats? Because of a fight? Good lord, what a double standard in a world where it used to be okay to kill a black person because you THINK he might steal your wife's purse, but a black person sending a white kid to the hopsital for a few hours is a heinous act!
Personally, ten days suspension, Saturday school, and community service. That's all those boys should have gotten.

I'm in total agreement, Mudshark. While violence in school should not be tolerated, let's not forget that the attack was not exactly unprovoked. Should the boys have found a better way to deal with their problems than to beat that boy up? Certainly, but even though they lost their tempers for a brief time, that doesn't mean that A) they are violent, bloodthirsty animals as some of the commentaries I have read have suggested, nor B) that they had any plans aside from just making this guy hurt. If they don't have any other marks on their records, give them the minimum punishment the school mandates and leave it at that.

I cannot watch this clip. But a few questions. Is this site still up? Are these racists going to be charged? And what about the company/server that they are using? They all should be held responsible. While the information may be public, the threat is obvious. Free speech is one thing, calling for someone to be physically harmed, or worse, BY NAME, (with location) has to be illegal. And after the disastrous week in DC, I truly thought the week could not get any worse. And there is still Sunday.............peace.

I know that Republicans don't have anything to say to black people. I would have been shocked if they had show up to debate at a Black-sponsored event. My disbelief is because of the near total silence from the lliberal blogs. It is absolutely stunning to me. Blaming the Republicans for the divisive hostile treatment of minorities doesn't cut it.
The silence of Democrats is deafening. Any word from Edwards, Clinton, Biden, Dodd, Obama, etc? As a black person, I am really tired of getting played by Democrats. If you cannot speak up forcefully and continually about injustice and abuse of your fellow American citizens......I have no use for this party. I will not vote for anyone who does not address racism as a major problem in America.
I'm a little disturbed that CNN feels compelled to describe the protest as "violence-free"; is violence to be expected of a cause with lots of black adherents?

Deborah, I think it might be a PR thing; nobody wants to admit that racism still exists in the US, merely because it makes us look bad. True, it's certainly not on as grand a scale as it used to be, but I'm of the mindset that one hate-based attack is one too many to be tolerated. However, until people stop worrying about their egos and the "image" of America, this is one topic that is going to be pushed under the carpet.

First off I am from North Michigan and came from a polish immigrant town of Alpena, Michigan. A lovely paper mill town of many European ethnic groups living there when I was growing up there. There was not much to do up there but drink in bars and drive snowmobile in the winter and 4 wheeling in the summer.
Then I moved to Mt Pleasant and had my first taste of racial prejudice for being a white kid living in the afro-american dominated dorm area for students with children. One of the father wouldn't permit me to play with their afro-american daughter in the playground. I was 9 years old and didn't forget it. My best friend was afro-american, Kevin, and his father got wind of this and march the guy over to apologize to me and let me play with the rest of the kids. everyone knew what happen and made me part of the community. At age nine I never knew the concept of black or white, and just thought that my friend always had a better tan, while I end up with sunburn that summer. I guess I was lucky that a community stood up and took matter to watch out for the kids. I was lucky because it was in a college dorm mostly for people trying to get an education that also have children. I think education is the key to eradicate racism everywhere.
This experience has either scarred or sensitize me to the problem of racism. I dwell too much on the subject at times and it saddens me. If I was in a terrible accident and I need a blood tranfusion to keep me alive, and they ask what color of blood do I want? Would I frikkin care? No! If I need a donor organ to keep me alive, would I care what color of skin the donor is? No! Every human being is a potential friend, life saver, and a Hero. It's going to take every human being to say racism is for those that are living in fear from ignorance of what they do not understand.
Deborah Gross has some concern, and this I say to her, that a biracial child are the most beautiful because those child represent courage and strength of the child parent who willingly brought a child that was made out of love between them, that are so unique to each other and bonded during that moment when the love was conceived. The biracial child themselves are proof that we can all get along if we try.
Fights happen in schoolyards all the time, worse than this, with guns involved. But what kind of stupid cracker hangs four nooses from a tree without expecting repercussions? As my mama used to say, you made your damn bed, now lie in it.
I won't say he got what he "deserved," but when you plant poison ivy, don't be expecting roses to come up in your garden.
