I like how O'Reilly is using this and warning everyone to watch out for this "corrupt media" in this election year. In other words, listen to him, he has the truth on the candidates and issues, and everyone else is wrong because they can't be trusted due to how they "smeared" him. This from a pathological liar who is been caught in more lies and spin in a day than Dan Rather did in his entire career.
All one has to do is say, Paris Business Review, and that will shut them up.
Bluestater @ 12:
The agenda of FUX News, and right wing media in general, appears to be to discredit the notion of objective truth altogether. They want it so that their viewers won't believe any empirical assertion that does not come from one of their agents. The rule they want branded into the brains of their lemmings is that if O'Reilly / Hannity / Limbaugh / etc. says so, it's true. If anyone else says so, it's a liberal lie.
It is frightening how successful they have been so far.
Laura Ingraham was disgusting sucking up to him
Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd were not pleased with comments made by Bill O'Reilly about black people, based on observations he made while dining with Al Sharpton in Harlem.
Earlier today they played audio of Bill and then said this on ABC's "The VIew ":

Billo Reilly checkmated his critics on this race issue. Somehow he managed to get prominent Blacks to spring to his defense. Juan Williams, 'Screamin' A. EEEWWW! You mean after......he..........uh..............
The media went nuts over Gays in Iran , taking statements out of context , pretending to be concerned , all the while it's just part of the white house demonization of Amadinajan and the preparation for war . If cnn was so damn concerned , why didn't THEY say something about it earlier . But the real example of White House manipulation of the media , is their sudden awareness of Burma's unrest . Bush gives some RIDICULOUS speech about Burma , feigning concern over the terrible conditions there , the same maniac that illegally invades Iraq, slaughters hundreds of thousands, and all of a sudden CNN discovers Burma , CBS, NBC.
We'll where were they before BUSH gave his phony speech, they haven't said squat about Burma , CNN between beating the weather to death and their advocacy of the "jena 6' , didn't know Burma existed .
What other stories or issues are they pushing for the White House, what other diversions are they creating , for the neocons .
Meanwhile: Down, down, down ... Is the U.S. dollar the new Schrute Buck?

Thank You.
sorry for the double post.
I know websites like this need the type of media exposure we have to thrive (profit?) but come on.
I can't watch the news anymore. It's getting worse every year.
Every time I turn on the news there is somebody citing dubious evidence and frivolous arguments in this endless sort of debate chatter, but does it end? No, because somebody needs to chatter about how the previous chatterer made erroneous statements about so and so, and the cycle continues. The fact that we as the public receive so little news regarding the happenings of the political world is lost upon the public, because of the endless bombardment of chatterers! It's status quo at washington though, since I've been watching the news pretty steadily now for about, what, 7 years? I've maybe seen the legality of this iraq war raised, what twice? three times at best? I'd think that would be an important topic! But oh no, Bill O'riely said something mean last night. Come on people, grow up. Oh and by the way, questioning whether we should be in iraq is not like questioning it's legality.
Mainstream media today is the most heinous propaganda machine in the history of this planet.

aquarius2 @ 55:
Amendments are changes to current policies that have already been passed into law. Resolutions are usually to effect the way Congress approaches policy decisions. The main thing is whether or not something is binding or non-binding. Non-binding, by definition, means nothing. The resolution or amendment is simply words that accomplish nothing more than perceived political gains or losses for those who vote. Lawmakers don't do anything but talk a good game because nonbinding cannot be made into law nor force action to be taken. Binding resolutions are often used by either body to pass certain actions it must take if certain circumstances play out. For example, The House can pass a resolution stating that if, in the next six months, the President orders a military attack on Iran, such an action will be considered a "high crime," as the term is used in the Constitution. The House will then immediately vote to instruct the Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment proceedings. There will be no debate on starting the hearings as they must be enacted by the the Judiciary Committee. It is rare that we see binding resolutions because both the senate and house are so evenly divided and our Congress is anything but representative of the people these days.
Stanley, you don't _owe_ me anything. As I recall, the deal was for me to pick it up - boy, was that a long time ago. Or so it seems... After blowing a wad in gas/lodging up north, it'll be a while before I get back to TX. Although I want to visit Portland, etc. soon, my projected route would take me a few hundred miles north of you.
So how's life in H?
No, I was supposed to deliver it (in a trip to Georgia to also go skiing, from my recollection.) But sorry, it's already gone. I had to move and I delivered it to a Houston recycling place as part of my downsizing for my move. I moved from Bellaire to Houston, and whilst it's not that far from Bellaire (considering that Bellaire is surrounded by Houston) I think I like it better being back in my home town. Sorry about the Vick thing, we seem to have gained a decent quarterback (Matt) before Vick became the thing, though I would still prefer that our QB was a native (Vince Young.)
I understand about the moving thing, Stanley - I'm facing a similar situation.
I have literally tons of equipment, yet I don't want to part with any of it - as I plan on having a real life one day. But not here, the meddling NeoCon asshats here are getting on my nerves - ergo the trip up north.
I had the most tremendous urge to attach a pitchfork to the front of the car - labeled "DC or Bust" - just to see if anyone else would follow suit. As it was, I still engaged in quite a few interesting, "coincidental" encounters - seems to have followed me home... Agenda anyone?
One thing for sure - I saw more smart, well mannered, attractive young ladies up there than in nearly a lifetime of living here... Now, if I weren't so damned old and fugly... Shucks, if I'm going to be lied to and cheated on, it might as well be with a PYT, as opposed to some worn out old knife wielding meth addict with three ex's and 3 kids. Yea, I know, TMI. ;-)
> my projected route would take me a few hundred miles north of you.
That would be 50 miles north of Dallas? It's only 250 miles from here to Dallas (home of the incredible Dixie Chicks ... ). 300 miles would put you almost on the Texas/Oklahoma border.
Hey GN good Doctor (and all else)! Great to see you again!
Oh, and as for the Vick thing - He's an overpaid idiot, reguardless of his temporal talent with a pigskin. Tell you one thing, the guys in Boston sure love their baseball. They'll sit in gridlocked traffic for 5 hours for the mere "chance" of getting to Fenway before the game. Wow. If people would only pay that much attention researching the idiots they elect. :-/

GN Stanley, good to "see" you again. Plus, I never get to actually meet any of the fine people who post here. I've been going to a few progressive meetings here, but their politics have recently taken a back seat to one couple's marital planning.

This is my take on Bush's speech at the UN a couple of days ago. "Insurance companies make money by accurately assessing risk. For decades environmentalists have been sounding the alarm about global warming. Now major insurers are becoming engaged as they look after their own assets and those that they cover.
Federal reluctance to commit to international agreements on climate change, or otherwise cap total carbon emissions, appears to be driven by influential businesses that fear the limitations will hurt their bottom lines. But the risk perceived by the insurance industry -- the world's largest economic sector -- may shift that political balance. At the least, it should tell us something."

The Star Tribune of Minneapolis will be refunding about $12,000 spent on a full-page ad to Al Franken's Senate campaign, a Franken campaign spokesman says. This week, Sen. Norm Coleman's campaign took out a full-page ad in the newspaper criticizing Franken for not condemning a New York Times ad by MoveOn.org, which had attacked General David Petraeus.
Coleman's campaign says it paid a little over $23,000 on the ad - far less than the $37,000 that Franken's campaign says it paid for a full-page ad two months ago.
Franken wrote a commentary piece for the Star Tribune earlier today, in which he commented: "[Coleman] voted last week against a resolution that condemned personal attacks on anyone who had served our nation honorably. That would include Democrats like Max Cleland, John Kerry and John Murtha -- proud American veterans who were the targets of political attacks not just on their character, but on their patriotism.
In 2004, when Murtha (a Silver Star winner) called for better armor for our troops, Coleman himself accused him of 'emboldening the enemy' and 'undermining the morale of our troops.'
"And as his reelection campaign gets underway, it's worth noting that Coleman has hired the same media consultant who ran ads in Georgia that juxtaposed pictures of Cleland, who lost two legs and an arm in Vietnam, with Osama bin Laden."

'A Coup Has Occurred'
Daniel Ellsberg, the former Defense Department analyst who leaked the secret Pentagon Papers history of the Vietnam War, offered insights into the looming war with Iran and the loss of liberty in the United States at an American University symposium on Sept. 20.
Below is an edited transcript of Ellsberg's remarkable speech
I think nothing has higher priority than averting an attack on Iran, which I think will be accompanied by a further change in our way of governing here that in effect will convert us into what I would call a police state.
If there's another 9/11 under this regime ... it means that they switch on full extent all the apparatus of a police state that has been patiently constructed, largely secretly at first but eventually leaked out and known and accepted by the Democratic people in Congress, by the Republicans and so forth.
Will there be anything left for NSA to increase its surveillance of us? ... They may be to the limit of their technical capability now, or they may not. But if they're not now they will be after another 9/11.
And I would say after the Iranian retaliation to an American attack on Iran, you will then see an increased attack on Iran – an escalation – which will be also accompanied by a total suppression of dissent in this country, including detention camps.
It's a little hard for me to distinguish the two contingencies; they could come together. Another 9/11 or an Iranian attack in which Iran's reaction against Israel, against our shipping, against our troops in Iraq above all, possibly in this country, will justify the full panoply of measures that have been prepared now, legitimized, and to some extent written into law. ...
