On yesterday's Countdown, Keith Olbermann discusses the seemingly rampant invocation of 9/11 in Republican political circles without actually dealing with 9/11 issues and the disappointing lack of cohesion on the part of the majority party to get the people's work actually done.

I love Rachel and the way she talks to the right.
Rachel rocks!! First!!
Talking the right accomplishes nothing. In case you haven't noticed.
L.A. Confidential @ 3:
So she should start an armed revolution? Not being a member of Congress or any other position in government what else should she do, pole dancing for rights, perhaps start up a puke on a right wing neocon fundamentalist day? What would you have her do instead?
When I said first. I meant uh first post for me in this thread. Anyway Rachel did great as usual.
I love her..
So Sexy!
I wish I was a gay woman just to marry her!
Tragedy + Time =
HumorExploitationTime + Exploitation = Misery
To paraphrase Ms. Maddow: The only bills coming out of the "Democratic" congress are Republican or Lieberman inspired.
Wait till the corporations give us Hillary as our "Democratic" candidate.
jeff @ 4:
I like those last two ideas.
Doing something about 9/11-related issues would be hard. Duh.
Gort @ 7:
Going Terrier @ 8:
Time + Misery = Money
Really, the republics have NOTHING else left but to chant:
9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11
No one but nutbars who are going to vote for them no matter
which zip-lock bag they nominate gives a rats ass about the
other issues they rant about, the gay agenda or some other
stupid hot button....
Only 9/11 unifies them, they relish it, bathe in it, drink it, eat it,
make love to it, birth it anew everyday.....
It's literally all they have, and frankly, most of them (in their
deepest hearts) want ANOTHER attack on US soil, to prove
them right.
They are sick and demented and beyond salvation.
Republics are a disease, and there really seems to be no cure.
If only we had a whole bunch of clones of her to replace most of our Representatives and Senators. If only......
Was it Jon Stewart who recently coined the term "9/11 Tourettes"?
Well, here's RUDY’S ULTIMATE PERVERSION OF ‘911′
Revenge for 911 might last decades. Those thirsty for blood can never be quenched.
Unless of course....the nation comes to understand why it happened in the first place...and takes steps in the right direction towards peace.
The first stones cast...are usually unseen.
9/11 was an exploitation from the get go . . . . censor me red, but the review for 9/11 the TV show came out and was, "fake reality TV".
The bad guy with the beard, his number 2 man killed several times and then revealed by the LA Times as an actor . . . . the name of the evil organization translating in Arabic to "the toilet". The organization formed by the CIA. Sandy Berger slipping and saying CIA operatives instead of Al Queda testifying before congress.
Maybe you're afraid of cracking the egg open and getting a little messy . . . but pahleeeze can we stop talking about 9/11, Osama, 19 merry hijackers, stealing our freedumbs, Pat Tillman the hero, Jessica Lynch the super-hero, fake Iraqis pulling down the statue of Sadam, Nick Berg getting be-headed, Abu Grahaib caused by a few bad apples, Arab press bombed and killed on accident, explosives left unguarded . . . I could on and on.
Can we just ignore it completely? The cognitive dissonance is just too much for my brain to take any longer.
Blue Buddha @ 12:
So Money = Tragedy + 3Time? But I thought Time = Money, so does Misery = 0 (valueless) to the Republicans?
I have been so disappointed so many times in the last few weeks with the Dem.'s voting for FISA, Leiberman/Kyl,this stupid Petreaus distraction resolution,etc.etc., and NOT doing anything to move our issues forward that I'm starting to hear Nader's warning ringing in my head.
It's like they each take turns voting against a progressive agenda so we might not notice there is NO ONE really representing us in Congress. (Am I getting a little paranoid in my old age?)
Rachel Maddow is a jewel.
We need desperately to get this woman her own TV show!
and NOT doing anything to move our issues forward that I’m starting to hear Nader’s warning ringing in my head.
Still, you only have to look at the USSC to understand WHY we must hold our noses and even vote for (gawd, I can barely stand to say it) Hillary rather let Rudy send up the replacements for Stevens and Ginsburg?
As bad as it seems, a court with only Steven Breyer fighting the tide against Roberts. Scalia, et all, you can forget marching back to Pre-Roosevelt, we are marching back to pre the Magna Carta.....
What are you guys doing watching "Countdown" while Ken Burns' "The War" is on PBS? ;)
enor @ 20:
They are all being held hostage in some way or another. Think of all the possibilities. They are surrounded by lobbyists and the military industrial complex which by the way happens to kill people as part of its modus operandi. Then there's visits to prostitutes or maybe your brother-in-law is taking money from a lobbyist et . . .
Cynthia McKinney kept asking Donald Rumpsmells about the missiong 2.3 trillion dollars from the pentagon's piggey bank (plus the fact that one of their contractors, dyncorp, was busted for child slavery/prostitution ring and then got another contract) and look what happened to her. She, a small African American lady, was charged with assaulting the Captital police and the media crucified her.
Sundance Review: Chicago 10
"One thing the movie conveys remarkably well is just what the stakes were for America at that point in history. We see Lyndon Johnson announce the American fighting commitment in the Vietnam will be increased from 75,000 to 125,000 soldiers -- a "troop surge" -- and the effect that has on galvanizing opposition to the war. We see Chicago's streets under what is essentially martial law, hoping to keep people away from politics.
And, again, it's hard to imagine who Chicago 10 is for -- people old enough to remember Bobby Seale and Abbie Hoffman will be put off by the creepy, newfangled animation and blaring music, while younger audiences will be put off by yet another celebration of the wonderfulness of Baby Boom generation's being shoved down their throats. Chicago 10 is an interesting film about an interesting time in the lives of some interesting people, but you can't shake the feeling that these real-life radicals might have been better served by a slightly less radical approach to telling their story."

L.A. Confidential @ 3:
Yes, but tapping your toes in a stall might get some attention...
goatsage @ 26:
I hope Craig stays . . . I hope he meets all of his GOP buddies and they blow each other or whatever they like to do . . . . but can I please have my republic back . . . I want my country back!
I'm getting to the point where I wonder which is more wasteful, a congress that passes worthless legislation, the parroting of politicians rhetoric, listening to the media analysis of wasteful worthless political rhetoric, or posting about the wasteful worthless parroting of political rhetoric by media analysts?
patthemonkey @ 28:
Write your truth . . . share a link or two . . . . I totally understand where you're coming from
Maddow: "The more specific you get about 9/11, the more it makes it awkward to use it as a distraction for other things. . . . I'm encouraged by, among some Democrats, a move toward real references to 9/11, really catching bin Laden, really going after the real al Qaeda."
Ms. Maddow should start with herself. A "real reference" to OBL would be the "official suspect" who "allegedly" ordered the attack, as the FBI has admitted to having "no hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11" (http://www.teamliberty.net/id267.html). Another "real reference" to "the real al Qaeda" she thinks we should be "going after" might include mention of US covert collaboration with this, our official, enemy in the Balkans during the Clinton years. Real and specific references to 9/11 might cite Professor Lynn Margulis, of the National Academy of Sciences, former Chair of the Academy's Space Science Board Committee on Planetary Biology and Chemical Evolution, recipient of the National Medal of Science (America's highest honor for scientific achievement), former president of Sigma Xi (the scientific research society), and author of over 130 scientific works and books, who recently called 9/11 "the most successful and most perverse publicity stunt in the history of public relations," a "false-flag operation which has been used to justify the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq," and her suggestion that "the glaringly erroneous official account of 9/11 be dismissed as a fraud."
"The more specific you get about 9/11, the more it makes it awkward to use it as a distraction for other things."
Indeed, including for news shows that pretend to critique its political exploitation yet perpetuate its official lies.
It really very refreshing to hear logical, intelligent, sensible discussion and a right on analysis of current events. Better than obnoxious jerry springer kind of yelling match of the Bully O'silly spectacles
.
Rachel Maddow is all that and a bag of chips. Now if she would only run for Congress or the Senate and it wouldn't matter if she ran against a democrat since there are hardly any left.
Rachel's the best at speaking to casual news viewers
"...incredibly demoralizing" (on the nonsense be passed in Congress)
Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel.
AbbeyHoffmansGhost @ 32:
Rachel needs to be doing exactly what she's doing. We need her on the outside telling us what is going on inside. Rachel is so eloquent, and cuts through the crap to give us a clearer picture.
"incredibly demoralizing"? How about "incredibly stupid if they want to project strength and independence from the Repubs"?
Remember. Always. That 9/11 happened on the Republicans watch.
As an American I reserve the Constitutional right to disapprove of Slush Lim-paw, hard of hearing hannity, Senator diaper Dave Vitter, Gen (in Bush's pocket)Petraeus, President Bush, Shotgun 5 deferment Cheney, Airport restroom entrepreneur larry Craig, Kill em all Joe lieberman, or whom ever I deem deserves my descent.....
Republicans want to take American's descent away so Republicans can come and take American guns away and break up that gun union called the NRA.
Hey a little sarcasm is good for the soul.....................
phayce @ 30:
Great comment.
Phayce at comment 30...Great comment.
If 9/11 is losing its luster and power to manipulate, it's probably time that the PNAC will concoct themselves another go at Pearl Harbor events. If it worked once, I'm sure they'd be happy to do it again.
Rachel is bound to be disappointed with Reid, Pelosi the DNC: DINO's in charge.

Don't forget 911. Repeat after me, 911911911911911. It might just backfire. I've been tired of 9/11 for quite some time myself. I cringed at 7/7. I thought, he we go, 911/77/911/77/911/77/911/77/911/77/911/77. Geepers!
I thought Rachel's analysis was brilliant! It's too much to hope for that she be given her own show on MSNBC, but one can dream. She's the best of the best!
