Mike's Blog Round Up
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. This is Steven at The Opinion Mill, and I'll be piloting this daily roundup until Saturday. If you have any suggestions for stops along the way, send them to me at steve[dot]theopinionmill[at
Now, fasten your seatbelts, please.
Lenin's Tomb has some information on a rebellion against a dictatorship that's not getting nearly as much coverage as the one in Burma.
Xpatriated Texan has some handy ideas for pro-choice bumper stickers for your car.
Mike Shapiro asks if it isn't time for city governments to tell arena-hungry sports teams to take their ball and go find somewhere else to play?
Philip Roth surveys the State of the Union and shows once again why he's America's greatest living writer.
Who's afraid of an oud player? The Salvation Army sure is if he's sponsored by a Palestinian group .
Digby asks: What kind of dolt could equate MoveOn.org with the GOP-linked Freedom's Watch and call them both "outsiders"? Hint: A dolt who writes for the Associated Press.
HOLY CRAP: Thank you, Jesus, for keeping all those troublesome black protesters in line down there in Jena. Now, can you do something about the crackers? Here's some howlers from the Bob Jones University Press textbook on biology. And when Jesus Whooper Janet Folger complains that FreaxNews, CNN and MSNBC ignored ignored the Values Voters Presidential Debate in rfavor of some Iranian guy with a hard to pronounce name, Bing says Cry me a river.

Philip Roth, America's greatest living writer?
Whatever
These pieces of crap think they can buy fascism. Democracy is a better system and it can't be bought but is earned.
Stephen Colbert predicted the future in 2000!
He nailed Bush before Bush even won Florida!
When I lived in Columbus, OH, the city and local businesses were whining and crying about how we needed an NHL arena downtown, and spent tens of millions of dollars on a campaign to shove a ballot initiative down everyone's throat (for the 4th or 5th time) that would raise sales tax by a 1/4% to pay for the arena. The opposition campaign to this initiative barely raised $100k... and it was still defeated.
Not even six months later, Nationwide Insurance (HQ'd in Columbus) finally dropped a bunch of money to build the arena... they had the money all along, but just wanted it done for free at the expense of the taxpayer.
Thanks very much for the mention!
The Bob Jones howlers are fun. Sure, scientists look all wimpy, but you get their dander up, and watch out!

"Abortion is evil - until your daughter needs one"
Excellent
Thanks for providing the link to the Philip Roth interview Steven. I believe that Philip is correct in saying that we just aren't putting enough pressure on as the left did during the war in Vietnam. It's interesting when considering that the parallel stops where public outcry against the war has not alienated our military. Times have changed and now we're all on the same side. Seems like we should be able to push through our agenda with ease but we are being stomped to death by a handful of very wealthy people. If this doesn't change during the next administration (that is, if Bush isn't declared dictator by the next election) I can see people rising up and taking over. I just don't see Americans putting up with this much longer.
A fine set. Thanks.
i didn't think the MSM was doing much in the way of Burma coverage, frankly...
seems to have disappeared.
Thanks Mike for linking to my post about the Salvation Army's cancellation of Marcel Khalife's concert at their San Diego venue (my latest post linked here). This is the first time I've been linked at Crooks & Liars & I appreciate the honor.
Good round-up!
