While John McCain assures voters the important thing is that he is a good Christian, Rudy Giuliani says he'll leave to the priests to decide if he's a bad Catholic. And while instant front-runner Fred Thompson hardly ever steps inside a church, Sam Brownback and Mike Huckabee took their holy war to the airwaves.

Yeah, the last time I looked, Judeo-Christian beliefs didn't include acts leading the the death of hundred of thousands, looking out only for yourself and your cronies, bringing the world that much closer to the brink of all out war, and being more concerned with how much wealth you can accumulate.

Why do so many people pull an OJ; destroying everything they've done with one big stupid (or evil) act? McCain could have sailed off into the sunset and maintained the illusion of being a decent guy but he just ended any hope of that and he's done so for nothing. At the next debate, McCain will interrupt the moderator to take a call from Jesus.

This country was NOT founded on Judeo-Christian principles, and anyone who claims that is woefully ignorant of history. Many of the founding fathers were Deists, who also believed religion should stay out of government.

If I'm hiring a preacher, I will worry about the Judeo Christian tradition. If I'm hiring a President, I want someone who is more concerned with the Constitution and the tradition of the law, and the tradition of the seperation of church and state.

Its no wonder people around the world think we're dumb as fucking posts when leading political candidates can make comments like that, and not have people looking at them cross-eyed for it.
I would first ask him: WHAT Judeo-Christian tradition? That stuff came *AFTER* the nation was founded. Almost every single thing that was poured into the "Great Experiment" had nothing at all to do with religion. I say this as a religious person. Faith was *deliberately* left at the door, so it could be a personal matter for people to decide on their own.
Separation of Church and State is a very VERY fundemental principle of our nation's founding; and its there both to protect the State *AND* the Church. Neither should interfere with the other; because when faith and politics mix, you get a truly grotesque combination of greed, faux belief, and genuine evil. The Founders *knew* that, and so they took steps to prevent it.
There is, in this country's history, no "Judeo-Christian" tradition to uphold in the first place; at least as far as the fabric of what makes America, America. The only tradition I'm aware of with that name is one that comes from overzealous under-thinking near-fascists who don't actually believe the words they speak.
Despicable. That's really all I can say about it.

The message is muddled and unclear when it comes to JUDEO-CHRISTIAN:
"JUDEO-CHRISTIAN" for me is a term that implies anti-Muslim, anti-Hindu, anti everyone else. In practical terms, it allows the jews and the christians, or those who pretend to partake of those traditions, to do whatever the hell they please to people who aren't one or the other.
If McCain had read history, he'd know that while the Inquisitor was skewering witches and Jews, the people in Muslim controlled lands were quite often living side by side with Jews and Christians, acting more "JUDEO-CHRISTIAN" perhaps than the so-called Christians could dream of. Islam grew, not by the sword, but by masses of converts and refugees from corrupt and violent tyrants who called themselves "Christians." Jews has little to celebrate about they way Christian Spain treated them.
So what is this nonsense about "JUDEO-CHRISTIAN" which implies so much, but which means so very little really?

Whenever someone says that the country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, I counter by saying that if that is true, then slavery, subjugation of women, and the destruction of the Native American culture must have been part of that same Judeo-Christian tradition. To which the other person simply has no answer and shuts up. Of course, the Bible never condemned any of those things and often advocated them, so YES, in many ways, the country was founded on principles that are very similar to the ones in the Bible. Thank God we have moved on and corrected many wrongs.

I'd totally agree if I thought the phrase actually had any meaning. As it is, I think it references a vague set of universal principles that the speaker mistakenly thinks come only out of the Bible. But find one religion, or non-religion, that doesn't espouse compassion, charity, and a general lack of murdering thieving. Thus, it's meaningless.
