Craig says he's not leaving Senate

This has to be making the Republican leadership nuts that Tappy McWideStance isn't exiting gracefully and will be a giant "values voter" thorn in their side entering into primary season.

UPDATE: I swear you can't write this stuff, but guess what Larry Craig's favorite recipe is?  A Super Tuber.  A baked potato with a hot dog crammed inside.  I'm just sayin'... (h/t Rachel Maddow)

"Tappy McWideStance".......snicker

I am thrilled!

If he runs for re-election, that is the only chance we have of winning that seat! Not to mention the fact that it is gonna be a big thorn in the wingnut side.

I second that, classic....

What are his handlers thinking????!!!!!

Everyone should send him a roll of toilet paper to thank him for his bravery.

How do the people of Idaho feel about his staying? Anyone care to ask the people that voted him in?

Damn good question!

Senator Destructo! One "republican" doing what so many "democrats" have failed to do - destroy any chance of being taken as honest ....

Seriously - One thing I have noticed is that "conservative" polticans who take on "values" topics will inevitability get tapped or recieve a bum steer.

He did say he will not run for reelection but will serve out his term but I'll take what I can get. You can't buy this kind of hypocrisy.

All comes down to his having a false sense of importance!

I've got a great campaign slogan.

"VOTE FOR CRAIG..............HE'S NOT GAY!"

Larry Craig is the Heart and Soul of the Republican Party.

Larry Craig: "I've got a wide stance, and a hankering for nasty men's room sex"

It's good of him to give us an opportunity to keep bringing it up-though will never top the Reich's obsession with Clinton's BJ.

Nice show of defiance, but he'll be gone and forgotten by 08. The GOP will explain the facts of life to him. Gonzo didn't tap phones just to amuse himself.

All I can say is awesome. I love it. Craig is paying his hypocritical party back big time. They hanged him out to dry and now he's going to be a stone around their necks.

On that note, the response from here on out every single time reslug brings up the Clinton scandal for no reason, the response should be "Larry Craig."

But Craig tapped feet just to amuse himself...

I'm so happy I could tap my toes...

uh, maybe not.

Can you say "GOP poster boy in 2008"?

It's Christmas in October!

If I were a Senator in Washington I'd be very wary of taking a poop in the Congressional restrooms from this point on.

So, if he attends the GOP convention, would that be considered returning to the scene of the crime?

Does anyone else get the giddy feeling that our dear Mr. Craig has a shitload of evidence about McConnell and Graham and a few other Rethug closet cases? I would LOVE to see a knock-down drag-out fight between them all, outing as many as possible. After refusing to back up Craig when they practically elevated Vitter to sainthood, if it was me I would destroy the ungrateful party that I spent my whole life supporting. Give 'em hell, Larry. LOL!

the way i see it is - maybe the toilet is a bona fide republican office.

the eagle will soar again!

larry craig....hero of the stupid

my apologies to stuttering john

Tappy McWideStance

ROTFLMAO ... I'm also forwarding the monitor cleaning bill to Crooks and Liars

The magazine "The Gay Advocate" should make him there poster boy and put him on the cover, make him man of the year. JCB

ADDED BONUS:

The 2008 Republican National Convention will take place at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota from September 1 until September 4, 2008.

(Like, y'now, not far from the airport and its infamous Men's Room.)

The first day of the Republican convention will be Labor Day, the last day of the popular Minnesota State Fair. (The RNC National Convention will be held four days after the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention which will be held in Denver, Colorado at the Pepsi Center). This is the latest any major party convention has ever been convened and the first one to take place entirely in September.

The attending delegates at the convention will choose and nominate the Republican Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates for the 2008 Presidential election. It is still too early to know who the candidates will be or who will attend the convention, like, perhaps, Idaho Senator Larry Craig.

heheheh.

WASHINGTON - Idaho Sen. Larry Craig defiantly vowed to serve out his term in office on Thursday despite losing a court attempt to rescind his guilty plea in a men's room sex sting.

"I have seen that it is possible for me to work here effectively," Craig said in a written statement certain to disappoint fellow Republicans who have long urged him to step down

Of course!!! Perverts always work well amongst themselves. He can't stand the thought of leaving of leaving all those nifty capital-hill mens-rooms before he has to.!

That's as good as "C**ty McSmirk" for Ann Coulter (IIRC, Franken came up with that one).

I think his colleagues will run him out of town on a rail. The Repubs have to defend 22 seats in '08, and I doubt they want this clown around as the poster child of hypocrisy.

Grab the popcorn and kickback, because this may get very interesting.

I agree, he has the goods on Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham--there are also a couple other republican senators who are also this way and they are married also.

Grand Old Phonies.

It's okay to be a gay hating gay. It's okay to try to hurt your people with votes that affect laws. It's okay to ask for a doctor to come and commit this person so that it can be of no further harm to others

These types of scandals are great distractions from the more serious issues going on.

This is perfect!

I want to know who facilitated the circumstance where Jeff Gannon/Guckert supposed gay male prostitute with no journalistic credentials to be given a press pass and access to the White House Press Room. Who is behind all this gay stuff and hypocrisy that occurs on a regular basis in the White House. The Republicans have some 'splainin to do in my opinion. I hope more people push for this explaining to be done.

You're right. Craig's staying is the best thing that can happen for Dems in terms of getting Idaho and generally stringing out the repug-perv-hypocrite theme.

There's no partisan bickering here. Most Democrats feel Larry Craig should stay in the Senate. He pled guilty to a misdemeanour and paid the fine. It's over. Now it can all "just go away." It's the GOP that "eat their own young."

Larry Craig, congratulations, and please, please DO stay on. I won't say much more about your Wide Stance, in the near future. Promise!! For now, though...

It's not a gay issue. I don't care if he is gay, or not gay, or never has been gay, I'm just sayin'... (cough cough)

The issue with Larry Craig is hypocricasy.

On all sides.

It is good to read that Senator Craig will continue to fight this monstrous injustice up through the court system all the way to the Supreme Count, if necessary.

[emphasis mine]

Does the Supreme Count wear a cape instead of robes? Does he have henchmen rather than pages and interns?

Give 'em hell, Larry!

What was true for Clinton is true for you: private sexual behavior has no bearing on public service and minor state/local infractions are not high crimes.

I believe this came from Stephanie Miller and her Mooks - check them out: www.stephaniemiller.com

What I'm hopin' to see is a Republican in the Congress file impeachment charges, or at least make an attempt to censure Craig.

In that case I'd hope that each and every Democrat would vote in support of Senator I'm Not A Naughty Boy.

My accountant is a staunch Republican, but willing to listen to opposing viewpoints and consider them. I had some tax issues to discuss with him, and then the 2008 election came up in further discussion.

With no prompting from me, my accountant mentioned Larry Craig, and the way he pronounced his name it made him sound like he was spitting nails, he was so angry.

Yes, Craig is going to hurt the GOP, especially considering the site of the Convention.

Hahaha. I wonder what Tom "Republicans resign in disgrace" DeLay has to say about this.

Comon guys...

The Noble Republican party is the Big Closet party... Even though it is chock full of em there is always plenty of room in there for closeted self loathing homosexuals.

You know, I can't help but think that Craig is doing all this to stick it to the people who stabbed him in the back. Maybe he's just taking his revenge on the Republican party.

At least Craig is taking a "stance."

Wow. How great would it be if someone was able to rig the sound system at the GOP convention so that every time someone comes out to give their speech "I am not gay. I never have been gay" plays?

joshdavis @ 62:

There's gotta be some folks at either Cal Tech or MIT who could crack the security there. Those people pull great pranks at football games every year(Cal Tech always pranks the Rose Bowl while MIT hits the Harvard-Yale game).

At least the voters of Idaho will get their chance ASAP to decide whether or not they want to keep him.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving party, this staying of Sen Craig. who cares about him and his indiscretions and hypocrisy. the real reason i love it is because mitch 'lemon-puss' mcconnell will have sleepless nights running that MINORITY group of in the Senate. and their obvious discomfort with the 'gay' thing is why they really abandoned him like bad milk, not because of the pleading guilty to a silly charge. udavid vitter gets no crap for his indiscretions and yet craig does for his. sorry mitchy ol fool there is a double standard here. you cant explain it away that well. anyway they deserve this dolt to stay on and make things uncomfortable.

CURSES!!!! Foiled again:(

I wouldn't be too sure about Craig damaging the Republican vote. Talk to any Republican about any of the multitude of Republican sex scandals, and they dismiss them out of hand. But when it comes to Clinton having engaged in a consensual heterosexual sex act with an adult woman, they go ballistic and tar the entire Democratic party as being immoral. The corporate media talking heads all willingly play this game of hypocrisy as well. Republicanism being more of a complex intersection of pathological externalized self-loathing mixed with delusions of grandeur and paranoia than it is a political ideology, will continue to hold its appeal with its fanatical adherents and the easily fooled and ignorant.

He fits right in with the rest of them.

I hope that if the Repugs in the Senate want to impeach or censure Craig, the Democrats don't allow them to do so unless Vitter is given the exact same treatment; it's should be both or neither.

Craig has an excellent chance to survive politically.

I am a lifelong Idaho Democrat. I know the senator personally. As far as I have been able to observe, Craig is no different from the rest of the cabal of professional politicians; compromised, corrupt, and now, creepy. I always felt a need to wash my hands after shaking his.

The political barometer in Idaho, regardless of it's status as the most republican of states, is that Craig may well sit out the rest of his term. But his guilty plea, and subsequent spin of that issue, is not enough to save his reputation beyond a very small group of republibots. He will not run again. Meanwhile, he cannot serve the people he is supposed to represent. Hell, the republican leadership cancelled a press conference today because they didn't want to answer questions about Craig. He has managed to stop even his party from doing the peoples business! Pathetic!!

But, fear not, repugnantcans, the rest of the Idaho delegation will support our degenerate Senator. And we long suffering Idaho Democrats will keep on keepin' on.

This video is a must see immediately to know what kind of problem we have with slimes using children in Washington.....and from boys town. This documentary was supposed to air back in may of 94, had already been listed in TV Guide and newspaper supplements when congress pressured the cable industry to scrub the airing and destroy all copies. The production costs of making the documentary was then reimbursed to the makers. This is a poor quality film but the content is a must see to realize how corrupt our government really is. Caution, the language is very blunt at times and definitely not anything you would want your children to hear. I can guarantee as soon as they realize this is available to the public it will disappear.

Let's not forget the 'private' meetings Gannon/Guckert had the WarPig Bush and his most special friend in the whole wide-world Tony Blair. Why would a hack little rag reporter like G/G be in private meetings with two Heads of State? Sorry if this is off-topic.

This topic is on gay hypocrisy within the Republican Party as far as I can tell, so you are right on topic. And good information about this G/G story. I hadn't realized it went any further than the Press Room, but it sure as hell doesn't surprise me.

And pot should be legalized. But that is off-topic. Peace.

Well, it's a Building Services job- I walk a lot, I'm always fixin' the things I can, cleanin' somethin' or another. I'm workin' in a retirement home/physical rehab center, so what down time I do have I'm chattin' with residents or patients. It's a nice job, they like me- I guess I care about the job more than the last coupla folks that had it- and there's a nice benefits package: health, dental and optical.

That's great that you enjoy what you are doing. So many people these days don't, like Craig. See, he got bored with his job and his life and decided to stray into the tapping routine in a bathroom. Who knows, it might have worked out "swimmingly" for him if it weren't for the fact that his prospect was a cop. Go figure.

Larry Craig: the gift that keeps on giving to the Repug party.

mrogi @ 67:

Larry Craig should leave the Senate for tapping his foot in a toilet when Ted Kennedy leaves the Senate for drowning a woman and fleeing the scene of the crime.

when in doubt, bring up chapaquidick

am i gonna have to listen to clinton bj jokes when im 90?

I'm distracted from expressing my ideas and opinions by annoying video links. If it continues I will be forced to leave this forum permanently.

Don't go away mad---just go away.

I feel bad for him....I know my brother had the same kinda problem...so glad our family did not throw him under the stall so to speak.

I've gotta disagree- about Craig, anyway.

Yeah, the story is about the hypocrisy, but the sexuality part...He wasn't, I think, lookin' fer a soul-mate. Rather he was turned on by the thrill of the experience, temptin' a bust to happen, but too stupid to realize the real consequences even after he did get busted. Bored with the job, I dunno, but definitely bored with the conventions of everyday life which he, himself, worked to rigidly codify.

Craig's a real piece of work, a psyche as twisted as they come. I hope the guy might be able to figure out how to live a truly good and virtuous life, but somethin' tells me he's too set in his ways to realize that there are other routes to happiness.

I'm gonna go to bed soon, but before I do I'm gonna drop a reference to the parable of the Good Samaritan. There, I did it. It's up to anyone who's interested to figure out why I did. ;)

Don't feel bad for HIM... he is a crook and liar of the lowest order, deserving of nothing but our contempt and scorn.

Craigala the faagala!

Jeannie See @ 6:

How do the people of Idaho feel about his staying? Anyone care to ask the people that voted him in?

I live in Idaho but I damn sure didn't vote for him - but I really, really enjoy the discomfort of my neighbors that DID vote for him. They love to say that outsiders from New York and California (and all other points) have weakened the moral fiber of Idaho. Craig is a native Idahoan from an Idaho old-line family- maybe he made too many trips to Disneyland.

From the Statesman comments...

Sen. Craig to Idaho and Nat'l GOP: Kiss my white, flabby, penis-lovin' behind!

Sounds like at least one resident is not thrilled with Craig's decision to not resign!

Please, please let him decide to run again.

“The defendant, a career politician with a college education, is of, at least, above-average intelligence,” Judge Porter wrote in a ruling issued Thursday afternoon.

hahahaha! I'm not so sure.

There really is a God.

Grazzy-ass Larry;
You are doing a terrific job of showing what the log cabin party is all about.
I'd feel sorry for you if you just told the truth.
get a clue, when your bathroom is a tourist attraction it's time to come out of the closet or run very far away. So thanks for doing the opposite.

he wants to hang around for the party in st. paul. is he the potato or the hotdog?

Gee, I'm so surprised and shocked to see a righty neocon who only cares about their own personal well being and nobody else. This just isn't like our good neighbors from that particular group.

Dominic @ 23:

Does anyone else get the giddy feeling that our dear Mr. Craig has a shitload of evidence about McConnell and Graham and a few other Rethug closet cases? I would LOVE to see a knock-down drag-out fight between them all, outing as many as possible. After refusing to back up Craig when they practically elevated Vitter to sainthood, if it was me I would destroy the ungrateful party that I spent my whole life supporting. Give 'em hell, Larry. LOL!</blockquote

and on that note....now I understand why and how ol' Mormon Doolittle is still hangin' around California's fourth district...hmmm....I don't mean ol' Doodoo's going to out anyone for being gay, just corrupt. Who knows, maybe I'm just being niave as opposed to cynical.

We have a gay senator that speak out against gay rights........what's next?
Klu Klux Klan members secretly in lust for black's skin? Nazi members lusting after the Jews? Republican party members wishing to be homeless in Texas?

Why do they loath themselves? These Hate mongers?

Atta girl, Larry!

Hang onto that Republican dick and keep on sucking them dry!

"Larry Craig should resign. Senators who engage in immoral behavior should not remain in the Senate" _Sen Ted Kennedy

The good news is his lawyers will be sucking him dry for the foreseeable future. Love those lawyers!

Suck on this, Senate!

Tappy McWideStance: LMFAO

Fight the good fight, Larry! Stand wide and firm!
