Fred Thompson: Sumthin' Worth Thinkin' About?

It's cruel to say, but I suspect that Fred Thompson is giving far more of a Reagan vibe than he ever intended...but not the way he wanted.
MSNBC: Not only has he misspoken or said he didn't know about Terri Schiavo, or the controversy about oil drilling in the Everglades, or that he was unaware that a federal judge had ruled that lethal injection procedures in his home state of Tennessee were unconstitutional, last night in Iowa he said that the Dems controlled congress when John Roberts went through his confirmation hearings for Chief Justice.
Um, no. For the record, John Roberts was confirmed Sept. 29, 2005, well in advance of the 2006 election that tipped the scales ever so slightly for the Democrats.
NY Times: In an interview with Kay Henderson of Radio Iowa today, in talking about Iran, he referred to the "Soviet Union and China."
Well, maybe Thompson has been napping since the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991. Or maybe he's just such a Method actor that he's still inhabiting his Hunt for Red October character.
I don't know if this is more of the patented Thompson laziness or an indicator of some age-related memory decline, but it's hard to believe this could be considered a serious challenge to the top-tier Republican candidates.

Hollywood Fred, this is your destiny--> "Who am I? Why am I here?"
raugunesque for sure. his handlers need to reduce his meds to see if he can read a script.
Oh no. Another Republican competing for stupidity. First, there is the boy Bush, then Mitt(ens), now Thompson and then there are the flat-earth believers running for president.
Me thinks the Repubs will not be taking the presidency in 2008.
By the time the election rolls around he'll be railing against Al Qaida's sneak attack on Pearl Harbor.
Repugnants, the party of old rich white men who only care about getting richer.
Gotta love it.
I think the big "A" has him---Alzheimers
Can I get a round of applause here?!!
That YouTube screen shot looks like something out of Hunter S Thompson's worst acid soaked nightmare.
The tag of lazy, lightweight given by his GOP peers in the senate seems to be on target.
excellent representation of a completely less than lackluster candidate
FRED THOMPSON, SEEKING THE REAGAN MANTLE, ARRANGES A LITERAL ‘PHOTO-SHOOT’
I was a little worried about the "old" guard too but listen to Mike Gravel speak. very clear, no nonsense guy. Fully aware of his surroundings and educated where it counts. This guy is 67 and I think he'd make a better president than some of the young bucks in the crowd.
Damn. Every time I see him, he seems to be getting sicker. This campaign is going to kill him. His wife should step in and end it.
In Texas the village idiot has been missing for 7 years. But he'll soon be back on the streets. It looks like Fred is performing some great auditions for the Shrub's character role! The GOP can't be this stupid - - can they?
I would say this is more symptoms of stupidity than anything else, this man is just not smart.
Running as a combo of Reagan AND Bush 43 eh?
Wow, he is a lot like Reagan! He just needs to get the dim, smug smile and he's a shoe-in for the Repug nod.
I think it was NBC that described a meeting of Fred fans as being a crowd of sixty people. Hope he keeps up numbers like that.
I say that at the first debate he shows up at there will be a card board cut out placed behind the podium with a pre taped response button at the questioners table.
Maybe they brought this dinosaur in to make the other (R) candidates look better.
This man is a joke. But see how much support he gets? Americans are freaking dummies.
I still stand by my out cry for Thompson: Grampa Fred needs a nap. This is sounding like an everyday soap opera for Fred: As the Nyquil Turns.
Hell! That might git em elected.
Kudos to the people who produced this. Nice facial characterization of the old fart and a good script.
Fred Thompson chuckle at Wonkette

With Bush reversing GOP fortunes across the country, it's no longer about finding the candidate who can win; it's about finding one dumb enough to accept the nomination.
That's where Fred comes in.
he's apparently as lazy a thinker as he is a campaigner.
I agree with Strawberry - Fred does look worse everytime I see him. I really do think he's beginning to show the first signs of dementia. Reagan said crazy things too but all in all, much as I disliked Reagan, his manner was generally harmless and avuncular. Thompson constantly looks dyspeptic and sour (don't ever let him belch near you!)
Milo
Unlike the Russians, it looks like Fred actually DOES "take a dump without a plan".
Daughter fetishist Fred doesn't even know what day it is. They give him the Hannity talking point index cards. His handlers are cruel to have him do unscripted events like interviews
Does everybody remember how conservatives CROWED when Hollywood Fred telegraphed his entry into the race? How they salivated over a Hillary-Thompson debate with "Towering" Fred sitting back and calmly taking potshots at "Hillary with her shrill voice and stubby legs." Everybody remember back when Thompson looked like a serious candidate?
Now I'm picturing Thompson drooling into his lobbyist suit and tie, forgetting day, month, year, century. Where he is. What he's doing. Hillarious! Thompsonious!
FRED THOMPSON may sound like Reagan but he supports Bush. Bush diehards love him. The repugs are so desperate to hold on to power that they are fronting FRED because the public dislikes all the other repug candidates (except Ron Paul)
I read weeks ago that Thompson has lymphoma and it's in remission. Then, no allusions to his illness appeared any where. If, indeed, he went thru cancer treatment it would age him dramatically...and if he's still on medication, that would cause the brain fog he's afflicted with. My take is that at least he isn't a robust aging guy and he doesn't really want the job of president. Watched him on t.v. going thru a crowd, shaking hands and that's all he did. He kept right on walking fast past his admirers...never stopped to chat, never looked them in the eye, and unless they absolutely cornered him, didn't share so much as a word with them. For whatever reason, Fred is passive aggressive about this whole scene.
Said it twenty times, I'll say it again....
Ol' Freddie has got to be the most energetic, charasmatic, and downright sexy corpse running for president I've ever seen.
Understand that the real power of the GOP is in place already; and always has been: in banks and board rooms across the world. Yes, the candidates that are running are a joke. Yes, that's the best they intend to do. Why? Because they tired of putting anyone but a puppet in charge, long ago. What people like George Bush or Rudy or Romney or Thompson very likely do not understand, is that they will never be allowed to make any real decisions. They are only there as a buffer; a convenient protection for those behind the curtain, pulling strings.
The face on the throne, when the GOP is in power, is nothing more than a punching bag. They'll be told what to do; or, in an ideal GOP situation, they'll just "read their lines," and that's that. The real work will be up to the people behind the scenes. And if the fallout from all of that causes problems, that's no problem: that's what the Secret Service is for -- to act as a buffer for the buffer; a punching bag for the punching bag. Meanwhile, the real crooks and liars and dirty deed do'ers walk away, scot free. No one notices they were even there; because the "president" of any GOP era acts as a distraction. Want a real GOP leader? Cancel the Secret Service; or hope they wise up on their own. If a series of punching bags got hit, and felt the consequences of what others did in their name, who'd volunteer for the job!?
Any candidate for GOP presidency must be a vacuum; an empty-headed, easily-bought, easily-controllable tool or fool for "The Elite". And the dumber the better: it'll attract away more of the anger of the mass of people, when Big Business and the Old Rich put it to 'em all.
The line that Clinton crossed was to go against Big Tobacco. When he "hurt" that multi-billion dollar industry -- because he actually HAD power; not just the appearance of power -- that was when the richest people decided to ramp up their aggression against the poor: they wanted full and total and actual control: to protect what they had, and obtain more. Hence Cheney in the White House ... the real "decider". But even he's just a highly-placed errand boy, who does the bidding of those more wealthy, greedy, and powerful than he'll ever be. What is most important to note, here, is that "free choice" has been eliminated: because big business can't profit, if poor folks have any choice.
Put "none of the above" on every ballot. And let's try anarchy for a while -- I'm betting it's not as bad as being under the "benign" control of the meanest, most hateful bastards on the planet. Sheep don't turn on sheep, and slaughter them: predators do. And the predators are in charge now. So how could we be worse off, by taking power away from them? Let them eat each other, if they're that insatiably hungry.
The apparent senility will go nicely with his apparent age: he looks to my eyes to be in his late 90's, early 100's, and aging fast.
Look, Fred old boy is doing us some good in the Primary for the GOP as a whole.
He is sucking off some money from the GOP corporate troughs. It reduces how much there will be to go around to the others.
Like Mitt donating all that to himself. He wants to spend his life savings to be President? I don't think that attitude of finances is what America needs right now.
Mitt's bet the farm economics !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fred, Fred, Fred. Stop embarrassing yourself. Refill your Viagra prescription and just go home and play with your trophy wife and spend your money.
Give it up, you'll never be President. Your uninformed on the issues and obviously not up to the job.
Truthfully, you don't look well.
