Frudy McRomney backs Bush on blocking kids healthcare
By Steve Benen Thursday Oct 04, 2007 8:05pmPerhaps more than any policy decision this year, the president’s decision to veto expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP) was spectacularly dumb. It was bad politics, bad policy, and based on bad reasoning. Lawmakers from both parties, governors from both parties, medical professionals, and children’s’ advocates all agree that Bush’s nonsensical decision does nothing but hurt children.
It’s striking, then, that Bush’s would-be Republican successors all agree with the ridiculous White House line.
If you’ve been following the debate, you no doubt know that practically everything the Bush gang has said about the bipartisan S-CHIP compromise is wrong. If you need a refresher, the WaPo’s usually-mild-mannered Eugene Robinson slammed the president pretty hard today, saying Bush’s veto “should shock the consciences of every American.” He added that the White House’s rationale on the policy is “a pack of flat-out lies.”
But they’re lies that Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, and John McCain happen to believe.
Vote GOP in '08 -- and get more of the same.

It's a Republican thing

Romney actually helped get a universal healthcare law passed here in Massachusetts; this guy isn't just a flip flopper, he's shameless whore pandering to the far right.
They don't actually believe the lies. They just have to act like there are no lies at all. That's it. That's everything. Elections aren't anymore logical. Never again will the best person win. We are dealing with branding; push polling; focus groups; advertising...
The truth doesn't matter anymore.
these evangelicos are insane , mad , thier brains have turned to shit!
Private insurance companies actually think its a good idea. Unbelievable.
Insuring all our children is good. Universal, socialized health care is even better. Extreme, regressive taxation of smokers is a coward's way out brought to you by the International Federation of People Who Like to Push Other People Around and Seem to Have Found a Socially Acceptable Way to Do It (per QT)
why do they have such a hard time...with people being healthy......................oh yeah.....nevermind
It's not just stupidity that they are against this SCHIP issue. They aren't running for President yet. They are trying to convince Republicans to nominate them. The timing is horrible for them.
Keep digging that hole Republicans. Keep digging it a little deeper. 6 feet deep will be just about right. R.I.P. GOP.
tyree @ 5:
Religion has that effect on a lot of people.
amen to that
Rationale..........
There just kids.....they don't vote and they don't have money to donate to my campaign so fuck em.
Shared Humanity @ 13:
I've thought about that. Do they have their e-mails?
well, Ron Paul isn't more of the same. Ron Paul's policies are very different from the Bush administration.
John Samsonite @ 15:
so is kucinich!
It's almost as though Bush is setting the stage for a win by the Democrats. Why?
Apple @ 17:
Perhaps because he has an admiration for one of the candidates, a candidate who - like him - can credit every one of her accomplishments to nepotism and corporate boot-licking.
Apple @ 17:
The media is giving us the impression that it's Rudy or Hillary. It's another sell job.
Sorry, I was supposed to change the "Foley" thing back.
If politicians on both sides really cared about this bill then it would have been veto proof.
Good place to draw a line in the sand about the budget deficit.
Apple @ 17:
Theory: the writing's on the wall that something monumentally disasterous is going to happen, and the GOP want to be out of the White House when it happens.
isn't it time we put these tired old horses out to pasture?
Rimmer's Clone @ 22:
and it well could be the disasters hillery clinton !
Does the religious and morality voters in the republican party support these programs like SCHIP to help the poor?
You might just say: LEADING GOP CANDIDATES ‘ELECT’ TO GO DOWN WITH THE ‘SCHIP’
RasslinGod @ 25:
they only support fetuses after thier born fuckem

Not true or fair the greatest Patriot in the Republican party: Ron Paul.
Although the man has received $5 million plus in $40 donations which will keep him in the race till next August's RNC, he has won most of the debates he was allowed to participate in, he has more 'friends' on the major social network sites yet he is not thought of as a front runner.
The main stream media is ignoring him, states are changing their election laws so dems can't vote for him in the primary's and more, and so he isn't on people's radars. He and Dennis Kucinich are the only real choices for our country...anything else and our ass is grass.
New GOP election slogan:
"If you're not rich, fuck off!"
EJ @ 28:
In case you haven't noticed, Ron Paul would have NO government programs at all.
GonzoD @ 30:
kucinich has though
Remember that Joe Biden said Giuliani knows nothing about foreign policy, at all, and on almost any issue he is sadly lacking in larger scale experience. It's a staggering presumption to go from a mayoralty to running a gigantic country but his hubris for believing he can is larger than the US. Yes he's leading the GOP polls but no one should for one minute believe that he will 'hit the ground running' as Prez if he's elected. He's going to have to make up for his lack of experience with a great team of people. Or folks could just not elect him and not worry about being saddled with his piano-key face for 4 years.
breakspear @ 32:
yeah and the son of a bitch better have lots of blackwater thugs guarding him!
you're right. those are just the sorts of people that he'd be seen with. he's a 'tough guy' so he'd surround himself with so-called 'tough guys'. what a joke.
GOP memo to kids - Don't get sick or injured, or better yet - Don't be born.
fiver @ 7:
I can't say I entirely disagree. I'm not big on "sin taxes," and would much rather cut wasteful spending at both the federal and state levels. There's so much of it.
Beyonce Welch @ 35:
Oh, I don't know about that. The GOP's standard bearers are all for forced birth. In fact, it's before you're born that they do care about you. Once you're hear, ehh, you're on your own.
The cons only care about their gated communities. They think if you don't have health care then "God" doesn't want you to have it
These stupid GOP Baby Boomers seem to be forgetting who is going to be taking care of their sorry asses in a few years.
This just proves the GOP doesn't care about the future. The children they choose to ignore now are the ones who have the burden of paying for their stupid war later and cleaning up the mess they are making of the environment and our sinking dollar.
Fuck You Bush! (on behalf of my 9 and 14 year old)

New? Fear of the poor has been one of the three pillars of the GOP. (The others are racism and bigotry.) It doesn't matter that most of their base is not wealthy, the people who fear the poor the most are those who are not that far above them on the economic ladder. The Republican base would be against this program even if it were proven to save the country money.
I'm not sure that opposing SCHIP is actually all that bad of a move for the Republicans. One of their racist fears is that the country will be swamped by poor colored (brown or black) people who outbreed the white folk and demand federal money. Remember the welfare mothers? An adriot republican could spin this as a principled position. "Oh, I'm all for helping kids but we don't want out of control federal programs, and we only want to help the kids who need help."
I edited the quotations and left the titles of this list of
HOW REPUBLICANS ARE LOSING ON THIS BIG TIME:
http://speaker.gov/blog/
This is a program that would work spectacularly well. Chimpy's neocon puppet masters, the ones who tell him what appear to think and say, would find that intolerable. They say they don't want the program to expand because it becomes an opening for universal health care, the socialist boogeyman. Maybe, maybe not. But that's just distractive noise they are floating to obfuscate issues. The neocons do not want any government progran which derives from the Sovereign Will of the People to succeed.
The neocons are Straussian acolytes all. It is a psuedo-religion to them that sets them up as their god's own on earth. Only, their god is power. They are intent on bringing down liberal democracy and freedom in theis country. One of their must-achieve objectives is to destroy all faith and confidence in self-government of, by and for the People. Anything that works is intolerable. Any institution that remains uncorrupted is intolerable to them. As people no longer trust, respect or are willing to work with those institutions, as cynicism replaces hope, as apathy replaces civic ownership and pride we will be ripe and conditioned for totalitarian control. Presumably, the neocon "elites" will be the controllers.
Since the Extreme Court handed power to the neocons in the 2000 coup, the one thing they have work most diligently at has been corrupting government - with a special eye toward ruining anything that worked especially well. This hasn't been incompetence, although many of the individual players are heroic incomptents. Combine that with the all-out war against the Constitution and Human Rights, and things look pretty grim.
Does anybody think that this veto wil be over-ridden? With so many of our representatives being corrupt poseurs?
John Samsonite @ 15:
i liek pokemon, 2!
GonzoD @ 30:
Why do people come on blogs and make statements like that without ANY links or back proof? So we are supposed to believe your spin on Paul because...?????
GonzoD @ 29:
That's not new, that's always been the republicans. They've just tried to paper over it with religion (notice, their religious buds are also rich--Dobson, Robertson, Falwell, etc.).
No surprise there Mitt could care less about American children and their health care. He just makes sure his kids have health care and don't join the military. Mitt is following in his Fathers footsteps of Rich people don't have to worry about anybody but themselves. If Mitt had it his way he'd hire slaves and pay them nothing. Now Americans see no problem with giving Iraq more then 1 Trillion dollars and counting but for Health Care for American children we can't spend tax money for that or any other program that's needed in the US. Make sure you pay your taxes this year or off to Gitmo you go with no Rights.
Bush has saved American smokers from having to fund, singlehandedly, children's health care, which is unfair taxation. This is the only good thing Bush has ever done in his entire life.
im very liberal and I truly do believe Ron Paul represents change in a way america needs
Romney's law got people enrolled in COVERAGE> that is not the same thing as CARE>
Bush is protecting Blue Cross Blue Shield's bottom line. They underwrite SCHIP and will be monetarily affected if Bush signs the bill.
All the wingnuts I know are spouting the talking points like they where carved in stone when I ask them if they've read the bill or even a synopsis of it No of course not !
Enough with the Ron Paul crap. He's a stinking Libertarian.
Do you people that keep promoting him have any understanding of what Libertarianism is all about. Have you ever read any of Ayn Rand's books? How can you claim to be a Liberal and be in favor of electing a Libertarian?
Do you understand that Libertarian ideology is almost the polar opposite of Liberalism when it comes to defining the role of government and social safety nets?
Ron Paul would not be in favor of this S-CHIP children's health care plan. Has this been voted on yet? I bet Ron Paul voted against it. If he was President he would want to privatize Social Security, public schools, get rid of Medicare, and the list goes on and on. If your a Libertarian that's fine with me, that's your choice, but you can't claim to also be a Liberal. It's contradictory.
It's good Christian values to deny services to poor children...hell, let them get a job and then we can talk about it!
Sorry, I don't care who's against it or in favor of it any more.
The SCHIP tax scheme would raise my taxes by hundreds of dollars per year just because I'm a smoker---then turn around and give the money to people whose income is twice as high as mine!
Reverse-Robin-Hood sounds like something from a Republican think-tank.
Eugene Robinson: Bush's Veto Lies.
Posted by Damozel | Eugene Robinson at The Washington Post: Bush's Veto Lies. Health care is arguably the biggest domestic issue in the presidential contest and, while the candidates and the country may be all over the map in terms of comprehensive so...
It is ironic that the republicans oppose raising cigarette taxes because the cost would be disproportionately borne by poor people who smoke more cigarettes than rich ones. Of course these same compassionate conservatives have no problem knowing that these same poor smokers will have no health insurance when they become ill from smoking those cheap cigarette, because (to quote them) "people make choices".
Good Lord....I just can't stop laughing at the name "Frudy McRomney!" Could someone please put together the characteristics of each of those faces? I wish I had a way to do it! It could really symbolize how sick and pathetic they all really are! Especially Fred Thompson. I think he looks older and more out of touch than McCain! Rudy's eyes go all "buggy" when he speaks...especially during close-ups and tight shots, and Romney...boy, if he could channel Reagan, he would probably wet his tailored trousers in delight! "Frudy McRomney" indeed. Oh, snap!
This shouldn't be surprising; Republicans are just helping military recruiting:
If the poor kids' parents enlisted in the military, then the kids would get free medical care (such that it is).....
