Mike's Blog Round Up

Hello, everybody, Steven of The Opinion Mill here. It's been quite a week filling in for Mike on this Blog Roundup thing, and frankly I'm getting a little misty-eyed at the thought that it will soon be over. After Saturday, I'll be opening a good bottle of red and sipping it slowly while a recording of John Dowland's "Flow, My Tears" plays in the background. Meanwhile, if you want to join this here party, send your favors to steve[dot]theopinionmill[at]gmail[dot]com, where all will be seen and all will be heard.

Dear Phyllis Schlafly: Next time you want to start hurling accusations about higher education, take a remedial English class first.

He may have been good enough for the Nobel Prize committee, but Bishop Desmond Tutu is persona non grata at Minnesota's Universiity of St. Thomas.

If the burghers and the Bible-bangers are deserting the Republican Party, does that mean we're seeing the end of an era? Rick Perlstein isn't sure.

Michigan Republicans are trying to silence Ambassador Batshit J. Crazee! Oliver Willis says: Let this true conservative voice be heard . And we say: And then get it on YouTube as fast as possible.

That's not a little lost puppy, that's a Republican presidential hopeful. And he's not such a puppy, either. Not all that little, either.

HOLY CRAP: This charming inspirational story of how a good Christian couple raised their son in the grace of God's love and guidance will have you running to lock the doors whenever you hear a church bell toll. But never fear -- here's a religious pantheon we can all get behind.

dude, i love my daily dose of holy crap

Thanks for the link. This post has taken off to be my most popular of all time. It is so rewarding to see that others are finding it as moving and yet terrifying as I did.

Holy Crap has a very familiar ring to it. Growing up in a small town (69) years ago, I met plenty of men who had this same exterior,
tough on the outside and shriveled, scared little boys thinking every time the touched their dick they would be punished for it.

I rejected the Catholic faith at a 9 years old, mostly because it just didn't add up. I'm speaking of an all good creator who punishes his creations with eternal pain.

I hope this part of the blog stays around, I always enjoy it.

I would like to see the whole thing go full circle on Tony's parents and those 'pastors'. There is a special place in hell for them. I don't know how the rest feel, but all I could feel after reading it was anger and vengeance against bible thumpers everywhere.

WTF is up with the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters)???

Hannity Named Radio Personality of the Year (TVNewser)
Sean Hannity has won the Marconi award, as best syndicated national radio personality. This is the second time the ABC Radio/Fox News Channel host has won the NAB award. The first was in 2003. "To now have two Marconis is even more than a dream come true," said Hannity. "I want to thank all the members of my team that work so hard everyday, to make this show as good as it can be."

The Media loves warmongers. War is great for ratings.

[...] The title’s assertion would be me speaking from the point of view of an English major. This post wins my vote for takedown of the week. Chinchillas to C&L. [...]

you've done a great job this week steve, and not just because you linked to skippy.

you do a good job of a short, concise synopsis of the post you're linking to, and that's important in the round up!

Ode To Tony Strikes Nerve: New Daily Traffic Recor

In the two years I've been doing Atheist Revolution, I've had a few days where I've had daily hits above the 2,000 mark. Since my average daily hits tends to be about half this number, reaching 2,000 is certainly cause for celebration. Most of the t...
